Would i be able to use this phone on T-Mobile here in the U.S? I've serached and haven't seen an answer to this question for u.s. networks. All I see is people asking if it'd work internationally.
I ask because this phone does have a sim card slot and in network settings there is an option for gsm/umts networks?
If so I would assume I'd need to flash tmobiles gs4 modem in order to use their service?

Well, it is that simple, it wont work on T-Mobile or ATT. There is no way to have it unlocked for US domestic GSM carriers (other than some risky propositions of flashing it with TMO ROM which I would not recommend) .
No offense intended towards the op but I've seen so many posts of people thinking that just because it has a sim slot it can work on us gsm. The sim card is unique in that it is meant for information needed to run on sprint CDMA/LTE networks. The sim slot doesn't function like a gsm sim socket. If you want to use a phone on a gsm us network, then buy a bloody gsm phone!

No, it will not work on "domestic" GSM networks (T-Mobile/AT&T etc), Sprint has that disabled/locked out by default. They will unlock it for you (if you meet the necessary requirements) for use on overseas GSM networks or you can by default, roam on overseas networks and pay expensive international roaming rates.
Yes, the Sprint S4 is a dual mode CDMA/GSM handset and as such has a SIM slot. Just because it has a SIM slot doesn't mean it'll just accept any GSM SIM and voila it works. First, the SIM slot is there because it's an LTE device and they all require SIM cards for LTE authentication on the Sprint network.
It would have been easy (and more consumer friendly) for Sprint to have their S4 have a completely unlocked SIM slot but their incentive is to have you pay expensive international roaming rates when using it on GSM networks, hence they lock out domestic GSM networks.

Sprint is cdma and is the only one that uses it....answer is NO.
According to the specs on the phone, the hardware is capable of running on Att or T-mobile network without 4g. It will just take time for someone to figure out how to unlock the phone's radio. It will be similar to rooting or unlocking the phone, pure software limitation, but it will take longer since there aren't that many developers looking in to it vs say rooting.
what makes it annoying right now is the inability to flash the modem partition through dd commands. doesn't stick after a reboot.
but yes.. this phone supports more GSM bands than the HTC One. ATT/TMO AWS bands and obviously LTE bands are not available. Might be able to hack in AWS support.. but no way on LTE.

Note that even if you were able to get the device to work on T-Mobile, while you would get 2G just about everywhere, you will only get 3G in areas that have been "re-farmed" and you will not get get LTE at all since the device densest support the AWS band.

Yes, but in stock form, those bands are NEVER enabled. Stock SGS only (and accurately) showed 3 bands enabled for WCDMA in automatic mode (see below), so this is VERY good news!

Well, like I asked the other gentleman who said he talked to "Expansys employees that claim to have been playing with an I9100 and it only showed 2 bands for UMTS supported"... HOW did Expansys do this exactly?
If it was Expansys in the UK (which is the only location where they would have the handsets at this time), they can't test the 850/1900 bands. Then, at the time they claimed to have seen only dual UMTS band support, root wasn't available so no way could they have checked the actual bands enabled.
My guess: They were talking out of their ass.
Its normal for only two 3G bands to be enabled at once in my own experience with unlocked phones. There may be exceptions but I havent run into them over quite a few phones from moto, SE HTC or nokia. I had read this was due to battery life and the fact that you are not going to be anywhere where you can use three of them. The question is I think if expansys knew what they were doing when they tried to switch to the 850/1900. The phone would have needed to be rooted I believe based on what I read and whether they took this step is an unknown. If they had switched over the fact that it showed 850/1900 enabled and they were dumped to 2G would be pretty good evidence it worked. I am surprised we have not yet had anyone drop an at&t sim in a rooted phone yet and put this to rest. My trigger button is most twitchy.....

Don't know about all those other phones, but if you look at my Samsung Galaxy S (unlocked) automatic band selection screenshot for 3g/WCMDA, it accurately only has the 3 supported bands enabled. 850, which its hardware does not support, is automatically disabled.
If these I9100s are on automatic mode, then I fully believe that 850 is indeed supported.
The point is that normally only two of them will actually work at once, not three or four. They can all be enabled but enabled and actually working at the same time is a different story.
edit... You keep on preaching to the choir btw, I think it works too, my point all along is you dont know it works until it actually does. Been right here in this exact spot and burned before. Dont think it will happen in this case but it can happen. For me when someone has it working it works. Until then I think it should work but dont know for a fact. Neither do you. As of my typing this not a single person has reported it working on AT&T bands or even being able to actually switch to and enable them in any search I have done which would last be about as long as it took me to type this ago.

Yeah, I think we're again in violent agreement, that's why I'm not preaching to you specifically. BTW, where is the technical proof that since my SGS has 3 UMTS bands enabled default, only 2 of them work at anytime? I work in antenna design, and from my understanding of band selection for most wireless chips, they don't necessarily work in pairs.

Your screen only shows that you can personally enable whatever band you want, doesn't show your phone's actual DEFAULTED/automatic mode enabled bands. You're not showing what every I9100 user above is showing. I hate to say it, but seriously, apples & oranges.
Since you're really bent on proving a point, can you show me which bands were ACTUALLY enabled with that g2x after you click on "Automatic?" Then, we'd be comparing the same thing.

Thanks a bunch, but their response is a bit vague as they could be talking about just 2G/Edge + Voice over quad-band GSM. We are debating the quad-band UMTS 3G/HSPA support that is specified on Samsung's website, but has been challenged as of late.

This was the question put to them:
Will this phone support all ATT voice and data frequencies? I plan to use it with an ATT sim card. If it will not work with the ATT sim card, I need to cancel the order. The phone will be useless to me.

Right, but you didn't specify 3G/HSPA speeds on AT&T data. UMTS/3G bands are separate from your normal GSM quad-bands. The GSM quad-bands will still give you AT&T voice and data, but the data portion will only be 2G/Edge speeds at best.
Hope this helps to clarify why Clove's response is somewhat vague.

Also, is it true that the AT&T model doesn't have a SIM card port at all? How is it activated then?
Also, the T-mobile model apparently has calling-over-WiFi (uma). Does that only work on t-mobile's network or will it work overseas too?
The micro sim port is for Verizon lte. Tmobiles is also a micro sim, and I think you still have to be connected to Tmobiles network to use wifi calling. Don't know about att.

AT&T version does have a mini sim slot right beside the SD Card. It's a spring loaded slot.

The one on the left is probably SPRINT, as they've been hard-embedding the LTE SIM card into the device to bastardize it (they're doing it with all phones).
The right is probably AT&T/TMO.

Well, the internal chipset has GSM support. You wouldn't be able to change the SIM card, I believe. You'd be stuck on VZW's expensive international roaming plans.
But for global roaming it'd only support 800 Mhz and 1900 Mhz bands, unless Verizon had them add the extra hardware.
The AT&T version uses the same frequencies as the international version.
Side by side comparison i747 and i9300
I travel quite a bit outside of the US for work, and for international travel, your best bet is the ATT version since GSM will give you the most options outside of the North America. As mentioned, Verizon may be offering some limited compatibility, but you will be stuck to their plan, whereas the ATT version (esp if unlocked) will allow you to swap chips in other countries as desired.
I say ATT because band-wise it has the most international compatible ones, and the 2100 band will help in regions like Japan and Korea that don't use standard GSM.
TMo is probably the second choice, but because they use bands like 1700 that no one else really uses, you're still better off with ATT.
The CDMA versions would be the last ones (Verizon and Sprint) since their roaming will be limited.
This is assuming you are picking from the US versions - for Canadian models, just find the carrier that matches ATT (I believe Rogers is the closest).
I'm starting to think I should just get the international version.

Is your home base in the US? Are you on an LTE network? Not sure if international version works with LTE. One reason why we have a different processor in our US phones because of LTE. A South Korean model (international version) will have LTE support but I don't know if its available.
GSM is your best bet if you live in the US. ATT or TMo. Verizon's international roaming is quite expensive.

I would go with the at&t one if you were to choose a us version. Personally if I had to pick I would just go with the international version if that where the case. I wanna see what the quadcore can do in a phone and personally I'm fine running hspa. I currently have no LTE were I'm at anyway. I have to drive like an hour to Baton Rouge for a taste lol.
By the way.... Tmobile wifi calling works anywhere there is wifi..
If you are overseas and you make a phone call back to the usa using wifi calling... Its free.. Its considered a usa to usa call....

Was just about to say this. I think you can also add an international long distance plan for a small fee (that way you can also call israeli numbers), which would make the phone work well anywhere you have wifi, then just get a prepaid sim to use while on the go. Just an idea tho.
I was only considering buying the phone here in the states and using it back home in israel with my regular carrier (Cellcom). Will the t-mobile S3 support calling-over-wifi even if I'm not on t-mobile's network?

Hmmm... unlock phone with code... insert AT&T's sim... done... (you may also want to add AT&T's APN, but it works automatically anyway)
T-Mobile's Note 3 has the same bands as the AT&T plus an extra band (1700) so... you get more with TMO variant...

I read that it does not work automatically. You have to change the apn settings and set it to LTE. I don't think it will work automatically

I got LTE perfectly without doing anything... but if you need to add an APN... Just go to Settings ->Connections -> More Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> ADD -> (and add AT&Ts APN...) Done
Because I'm not paying $700+ for the phone in the first place. Plus I don't have time to deal with staying and stopping a contract to pay so much money for it.
On another note, they all have Knox anyways so good luck warranting it.

Yeap... on AT&T right now with N-900T.
I believe you're on hspa+. My AT&T note 3 says lte when I'm connected. It says 4G when I'm in hspa areas. Might be different for the t-mobile version though.

I am on XDA and I do care about warranty. I have rooted all phones I've owned by I still like the comfort of knowing I can warranty if I need to.
Luckily for me this phone is for work only so I won't have to worry about root. My GPro shall keep me happy with roms until nexus 5!!!
By the way, any lag at all on your device? And how is the coverage seeing that is running on tmobile ril files?

As far as today... (2nd day with Note 3..) exactly as Note 2... Not better... not worst... (went to work, inside the same places as usual, on the road... etc... the same I would say... no issues...

I have the Note 2 with AWS Mod... so it gets the TMO 1700 band too... so my AT&T note 2 is like a TMO Note 2 too... (Not a virgin AT&T Note 2)

I don't know what Tmobile's Note 3 LTE bands are AT&T's has LTE bands 2, 4, 5 and 17. Not to mention 700mhz. 700mhz is still up in the air, don't really know anything about it but it's been in the news lately. Rather have the option than not. For me, speed is more important than roms. And like many other devices, I'm hoping with a lot of outcry, AT&T's Note 3's bootloader will eventually be opened... Sooner or later.
According to the HTC website the HTC 10 has all the bands necessary for Verizon including CDMA. Does anyone know if it will work on Verizon?

I suspect it will indeed work on VZW, all 3 models have the same modelid (ATT, TMO, VZW)...

I see it as the same situation as the 6P. Verizon didnt "officially certify" it for their network, but since it had the correct bands it worked with an already activated sim card.
I preordered an unlocked HTC 10 and plan on popping in my 6p VZW sim card.
Now does it matter that HTC site lists the 850 frequency (which verizon uses for their 3g) under 2G/2.5G - GSM/GPRS/EDGE?
I am wondering the same my friend..it will be a must buy it so and I can use it on any carrier at anytime! Verizon is less strict than you think. They're picky about the phones they certify and sell, but if a phone has the right radios, you can usually get it to work on V by just inserting a pre-activated SIM.
I've heard a rumor that Verizon will be getting an exclusive launch ahead of the US competition with this phone. It'd be nice if the unlocked model is the same. Perhaps they'll put some software locking that we can easily circumnavigate? Being able to travel with my M8 and pop in a local GSM SIM has been a huge benefit.

Just got a twitter response from Mo Versi who works at HTC, and I quote "NO, You will have to purchase directly from Verizon or Sprint. Thanks" Not sure if this is the be all end all, but it doesn't help!? Perhaps Verizon is telling them to say this so we buy from carrier?? Or maybe we are just screwed

I've experienced this on cracking the Chinanet LTE of Verizon M9. The LTE signal just show up and disappeared in a moment.
But at last I solved it by adding MCC in EFS explore.

Yeah I suspect so, If it does indeed work on Verizon, Im sure Verizon dosent want them advertising it. My only fear is when I receive it, it does work, but if I am out of ranfe for LTE and it has to drop down to 3G, will it work.. I guess we shall see!? I did see that HTC has a 14 day return policy. If I cant get it to work in the 14 days, then I will just wait for a bootloader unlock for the Verizon model. Anyone thats up to date and knows the 3G and LTE bads real well? Does this unlocked edition have all the necessary bands for both 3G and LTE, on VZW? I know a bit, but dont know them all.

And according to Wireless Carrier Cheat Sheet, the unlocked version supports Verizon CDMA ( CDMA: 800/1900 with EVDO Rev A). I screenshotted the supported bands of the unlocked HTC 10, the VZW HTC M9 and and VZW LG G5. All support the same bands (CDMA included). I circled the same CDMA bands for reference (Ignore my crude paint skills).

Yeah thats the way it certainly seems. Someone pointed out though that it could be showing the bands for both models as a whole.... It does not sound convincing, but something to think about.

2PS620000 is for Europe, that article may be wrong about it hitting the FCC...doesn't make sense
2PS650000 is for US GSM (ATT & TMO) & VZW
Sprint will have a different modelid...

Read the whole thread and it looks like the unlocked HTC 10 might work on Verizon. Great news. I DON'T WANT VERIZON BRANDED DEVICE EVER AGAIN. I looked at the specs on the website and saw LTE bands 3,4,13 which is what Verizon uses AFAIK. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Its come time to switch carriers and my S7 edge is an AT&T variant and I want to get Verizon service. From what I can find it appears I can't just drop in a Verizon sim card and go (correct)? Is the only other alternative to install a Verizon stock rom ... or just sell to buy a Verizon version?

Verizon uses CDMA and AT&T uses GSM, so no you can't just pop-in a Verizon SIM card, it won't register to the network.
Attempting to flash a Verizon ROM would either fail or you'll end up with a bricked phone.
You'll have to sell your phone and buy the SM-G935V (Verizon S7 edge).

All US Galaxy s7 are the same. So if you want to use Verizon on At&t phone, you'll need to flash Verizon firmware on At&t phone. Then you can use Verizon sim in it and you'll get all necessary bands for Verizon including cdma.

First off, AT&T phones have locked bootloaders, so no, you can't flash sh*t. Same goes for Verizon.
Secondly, how will CDMA hardware magically appear if you flash the ROM for a different variant?

This is the Nougat Beta, I was talking about a full final MM ROM, if that's possible then it's a different story, but as far as I know, it isn't.
Besides, Verizon ended support for the Nougat beta anyway.
when i do a network scan on ATT s7 edge, it picks up BOTH cdma Verizon, Sprint and GSM att and Tmobile.
i can only register on att network since i have a att gophone simcard, i'm sure if you pop a verzion simcard in, you can use it on verzion

Is your phone set to connect to LTE?
If so, when you do a network search, Verizon and Sprint will still show up since they use normal LTE bands just like AT&T and T-Mobile. I remember when I had a Galaxy S5, it didn't support LTE Band 2 (1900 MHz), but there is a network in Pakistan that uses LTE Band 2, and upon doing a network search, that network would still show up in the list.
I'll accept defeat when you do pop in a Verizon SIM card and try to use the 3G network and not LTE.

Yes I know, I have an iPhone. But Apple has been doing this for years, you can mix and match iPhone models, they all work on CDMA and GSM. I have a Verizon iPhone 6S Plus and it works fine for me here in Pakistan.
Samsung is not doing the same, if they were, why would they make G935A, G935T, G935V, G935P etc, why not just make one variant for US and one for the rest of the world?
The Snapdragon 820 in the AT&T S7 edge MIGHT support CDMA, but it probably doesn't, cause if it was as easy as flashing a ROM, then anyone could pick any variant off Ebay and use it on any network, but it's not that easy.
A reputable website shows that the SM-G935A, does NOT support any CDMA bands so it is beyond me if anyone has managed to register to Verizon with an AT&T or T-Mobile S7 edge.

In that case, why not make 200+ variants for each carrier of the world? Wireless carriers outside the US also get phones, they don't have different variants for each carrier because all carriers here are GSM and they use very similar LTE bands, that is not the case in the US.
Don't you think there's more to it? Each phone has it's own different LTE band support and differently designed ROM. AT&T WiFi calling, VoLTE, same for T-Mobile and Verizon as well, you can't just have one unified device for all 4 major carriers, which is why they have a separate device for each one.

The link you posted about flashing VZW firmware on the AT&T S7 edge, that was only so that AT&T users could use Verizon's Nougat firmware since they got left out of the Beta test. Nothing like that with Marshmallow.
Doesn't that give you more of a reason to believe that the 4 variants are indeed different from each other in some way, and not exactly the same as you say?

Yes I did say it will brick, but don't take my word for it, I don't own either of the variants, so I can't say for sure.
Also, technically the tutorial doesn't require you to boot into the MM ROM, you need to flash it and then sideload a 7.0 update through recovery.
Anyway, you can keep laughing and tinkering with devices with locked bootloaders, I think the OP wanted a straight answer and he got it, could you imagine going through all this flashing and sideloading to achieve something that is as easy as selling his AT&T phone and getting a Verizon one?
