[Q] RMA for the nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is RMA like swapping out a faulty device for a new one through Google? How does it work? If my screen just one day doesn't turn on after having the phone for 6 months will they replace it for free? Do they send you a new device then you send your faulty one back? Or vice versa?

Thank you and I'm not trying to be an a hole but I'm starting to get sick of this forum... I haven't gotten answer in like my last 5 threads its becoming disgusting. OK. In the UK, you ring Google Play, they send you an email with an RMA attachment and create a special order for you in your google wallet. You then order your new device and they take an authorisation on your card (they dont actually take the money, just "allocate" it to them, should you not return your faulty device), then they send you a new device and you send your old faulty one back to them within 21 days using their free TNT service that comes in the bag with your new replacement device.
So...
1) Ring google, they give you RMA attachment to print out
2) Order your device through the special order they have set up for you
3) Ensure you have a card with money on it so they can allocate it as security
4) When new device arrives, you have 21 days to return the old one to them (with the RMA you printed off in step 1) or they will take the allocated money off your card.
Hope it helps

No problem mate
EDIT: I should add that they will allocate the full cost of the handset until they receive the old one back. Then they will release that "hold" on that amount within 14 days (In reality they have released the hold on all three of my RMA devices before they even received the device back)
If you have got a cracked back for example, they will still exchange it, but they will bill you the cost of the smashed glass back.
Little chips and scratches they are not bothered about as the phones go to be refurbed, so as long as the back and front are "unsmashed" you will get all your money no sweat.

No, my USB port was acting faulty on the one I have now.

^ Fair enough.. I am shocked to see they are replacing the device even after 6 months of ownership to the customer. Seems like that 15 day return policy turned into 1 year return policy after their disastrous launch!

Would you return your Nexus for one dead pixel?

Just curious.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Yes for me.
Envoyé depuis ma Nexus 7.
yes. Google's RMA is fast and painless.
Yes I would.
Themes and apps isn't really the right section for this.
It would depend where the pixel is for me.
just noticed I posted in wrong forum. I was using the Tapatalk app and forot which section I was in
If I just bought it, yes. If I've owned it for several months and a single pixel went out I probably would not exchange it for the lottery reburb I would get (assuming they would even warranty it...I don't know what their pixel policy is).
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I did, what sucks is that it was clear until I did the update about an hour after turning it on, rebooted...and there it was, laughing in my face. Got my replacement and the only issue I have now is very slightly raised screen, no problem though, I see there are fixes for that if I really feel like it.

I find myself in the same situation.
I ordered online from Futureshop.ca (Canada)
I am about 6 days out of the 14 day exchange policy as I went on vacation and am just now getting to play with the tablet.
I have 1 dead pixel, now that I know it's there it is buging me, I also have screen flicker with low wifi issue, no lifting though.
Called Google, told me to call Asus.
Called Asus and got an RMA but I have to pay for shipping to Asus, I am worried I will get back a tablet with screen lifting!
Going to take my changes and send it in I guess.
oz
No. I have one white pixel but you only notice it if you are actively search for it and only on a complete black screen. Doesn't bother me at all.
I thought I have just one dead pixel, but I found others, on different colors.
I am not able to return my Nexus 7, but I would do it if I could.

Yep. Why anyone wouldn't is beyond me. Not doing so is basically encouraging less QC to be needed (if your bugging ASUS about RMA's they'll probably learn to make their devices better; whereas not bothering ASUS about issues will probably allow them to lack more and more on QC).

(Q) Nexus 7 broken screen. Warranty!

Hi guys I want to make a question. Today I saw the screen of my tablet broken in the side as you cab see in the photos. This didn't happen from dropping or press on it. It doesn't have signs of drop either. The tablet is full functional only this corner don't work. I want to ask if I can claim free repair from Asus because it's not my fault. The tablet is 15 days old and this happen by itself.
Thanks in advance

First of all, don't bump your thread so soon. Only bump if you've had no reply in 24 hours.
Now to answer your question, the only way you'll truly know is by asking them. Different situations are different so no one could really tell you.
Oh sorry about that. I wanted some opinions before I call. Anyway now the Asus support line is closed until Monday I think. I mean is it possible to replace it free or they don't change broken screen's no matter what?
Thanks for the fast reply and sorry again

generally a broken screen would be considered physical damage, which the warranty wouldnt cover. it would be very hard to prove that the screen broke all by itself, the weight of the proof would be on you. the only thing that might save you is getting the right customer service representative that is sympathetic to your cause. be very nice to them when you call.
Asus says it's not covered by warranty and the price to fix it is 150 €. So I'm going to buy new lcd+digitizer from eShop. Anyone knows were I can find it cheap?

Quite honestly, most just end up replacing the entire tablet because of the disproportionately high price for the LCD/digitizer.

This happened to me. Hit power button and screen cracked from middle left to bottom right. Its on itsway to Asus right now.
It had some screen lift on the left, but never bothered me. I can't help but think that's what caused it.

N4 ownership transfer....

So I received my nexus 4 about a week ago, and have been loving it ever since. Just the other day (I believe it was Thursday) I wake up and check my phone, and notice a dead pixel! So later that day I call Google inquiring about a RMA, but since I bought the device off of Swappa and was not the original owner, I could not get the RMA. I contacted the seller of my phone and he called Google, the lady on the phone/email told him that a "specialist" was working on my case, and this was two days ago. So basically what I'm asking, has anyone gone through something similar? Any ETA on when this specialist's work will be done?

It happened to me with a nexus 10 I got it from Craigslist but all they ask me was for the Original email that unit was bought it took like a week to get the replacement but they will put a hold on your Google wallet when they receive the device they release the founds sorry but English is not my language I hope it helps
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Alright , I called Google again and they didn't know anything of it, is there anyway I can transfer ownership without involving the seller?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Be patient mine took like 3 weeks but it was my fault since I didn't call them for a week after they ignored me.they require some info about the original owner they asked for name email and order number the eBay seller I bought from was cool to give me the info. They contacted him I think to make sure if he OK with the transfer. Even if Google deny u RMA lg should cover you

You have to call Googles RMA number and they will redirect you to the RMA specialtists who will then contact you through email for the necessary info and then they'll send you a link to buy the RMA. The whole process to change ownership and buy the RMA took one day and the RMA shipped the next morning, overall it was a surprisingly smooth process.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The guy that sold me a nexus ignored all my communications. Google will not do anything to help you in this situation. They only transfer ownership of you have the original purchasers info.
I ended up sending it to LG for repair and had to go out and buy a GS3 as a temporary phone in the mean time. (~2 weeks to get your phone back from LG )

Ordered N4 from Amazon, best way to RMA?

I ordered my 16GB Nexus 4 from a seller on Amazon on December 6th last year, when I was desperate to get my hands on this phone, and this seller had it for only $50 more than the Play store brand new.
Well, now I'm having issues with my N4 and I need to have it repaired or have an RMA done, but since I'm not the original owner I'm not sure if it's possible. The seller I bought it from, who is still actively selling on Amazon, just sent me an email after I asked him if there was any way to get the original order number, and if he can send an email stating that he was transferring ownership to me. All I received was a reply in which he simply said "Nope".
So, now I'm extremely frustrated and not really sure what to do. I need a working phone, but it doesn't look like I'm going to get what I need from the original owner. Any ideas?
Anyone else had a similar experience and was able to overcome it?

Strange. I just bought a Nexus 4 on Craiglist (!) a month ago, got its back glass shattered today. I called Google, they told me to call LG. And the LG rep was really nice and gave me a RMA number right away after I gave him the IMEI number. Now I just have to ship the phone to LG and probably pay a hefty sum to have them repair it lol
I guess you can try calling this number that I called: 8007938896
Hope this helps!
If you want to be extreme and really want that RMA you can say that owner passed away. A friend of mine did that and they let the RMA transfer. Not saying you should though.

Hi just click on your order from the email receipt you should have received if you ordered through Google Play. From there it should have a number to call regarding your order. That's the number for the Google play store. Not sure what country you're in but the phone should have a years warranty (I'm in the UK). This should cover it for faults and defects.
Not being mean but it's easy to do. It even said "if you need help with your order call ..."
That was on my order confirmation I got when I ordered my Nexus.
