LTE not appearing in notification Bar - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I saw LTE yesterday in my notification bar, and that was the first time I saw it in 2 weeks. I always have 4G, but I believe that's HSPA+. Anyone have anything similar, and how they would fix it?

Maybe there are issues with LTE in your area? If you didn't change anything on the phone I would reboot it just to be sure but it's probably a coverage issue.

I'm gonna talk to Rogers today, cause I should have LTE around my area.

HSPA+ is H+, not 4G. Test your connection speed if you're unsure, anything over 10mbps (especially for upload) is most likely LTE. I get around 24-36mbps up here in Canada.
Edit: Ah, that might be different for each carrier then. I definitely get H+ when I am on HSPA+.

8mb/s. On download, I don't believe those are LTE speeds, and if they are they're pass poor.
Also, never seen H+ on my GS4, so I think 4G is HSPA+.

The "4G" indicator is HSPA+.

On the AT&T version, when on LTE, there is a small print "LTE" under the 4G symbol. The term 4G has been abused so much, God knows what it means on any given device.

I`ve got the rogers one and it says LTE when theres LTE and 4G when there isn`t.
Check your apns and make sure its ltemobile.apn set up ?

I'm in Chatham Ontario.
Between Windsor and London

I think it might be a radio issue with the stock ROM. It was the same on the S2 Skyrocket, some radios worked better than others. The Radio I had on my S2 when I switched over to the S4 showed LTE in my area constantly. Previous radios on that phone were hit and miss...some a lot better than others. I guess we will have to wait until the BootLoader is unlocked (for AT&T S4s) and other basebands (radios) are released until we can test and see which one works better in each area.
My S4 has a pretty good connection now, but it too shows 4G where it use to show LTE. Like I said, some radios do better than others when handling LTE connections.

So apparently the representative lied to me and said that I would have LTE, but my region doesn't support it. That's awesome : /. Thought it doesn't explain why I had it for a brief period. Maybe it came from a tower with LTE. Weird.
Well, This things going back unless a representative can give me a decent deal : /

Are you positive that your area doesn't have LTE? Just because the phone is capable of having LTE doesn't mean you are guaranteed an LTE signal. You have to be within the LTE broadcast area and, your phone's modem (radio) has to pick up that LTE signal. Like I said before, the phones radio has a lot to do with it. Some just handle LTE connection (and all connections) better than others. Radios are flashable, but the bootloader has to be unlocked, with custom recovery installed and different versions of the radio have to be available before Devs can make them flashable. Some will do better than others. It's just a matter of trying them when they are available.

4glte for incredible?

soooo incredible capable of getting 4g?
no. no hardware for it
That's just wrong. I wont even get update on a new phone for a while. Oh well.
It's not...wrong. 4G requires a new piece of radio hardware to be installed in the phone...besides the fact that Verizon hasn't even lit up the country with LTE yet, let alone 7 months ago when the phone first game out.

Everybody says it is impossible. I say it is but won't happen. "LTE" is not 4G. It is 3.5G, just like sprint does not have 4G, They have 3.5G. If they had true 4G. We would be looking at speeds as fast as out home internet now. LTE runs on a 700mhz band if I am correct. The Radio in both the EVO and Dinc are a qualcomm radio. Which by verizon is set to receive signal at 800mhz and 1900mhz. There is no reason why they can not send out a radio and antenna update to make it also run at 700mhz too. But that is my two cents. this is always what I have thought.
I would like for this to be true.
Can this be true? Please?

well, unless you have something to back up your claim that a software update will enable 4g...excuse me, 3.5g, then your basically talking out your ass. no offense intended, just back up your claims
LTE is actually different from 4G... Look into it and you will see Verizon is claiming that LTE will run at least 3x faster than 4G. Whether they can back up those claims has yet to be seen.

LTE Testing and "G" question
Ok for the 1st thing about radios and software or hardware, as an RF engineer I can say that if the stripline rf sections are capeable of being tuned far enough to run the 700MHZ band, and I will confirm that VZW LTE is in that band as we are running it now, the protocols are different so I do not beleive the chipset will be flashable to run it. They may have indeed looked forward enough to make it so but I have no specific knowledge of it, except that VZW is going to release an LTE version that is in the EVO case but with LTE instead of WI-MAX, good news because front cam and everything. A history lession though is that I have an old HTC PPC5050 in my collection that was an evaluation unit for Sprint back before the 6600 came out and was never accepted and released. This thing had a GPS hump on top of it that really worked when everyone else was AGPS only, and in the spec was EVDO before Sprint even had it. I used it in the first tests of EVDO at ACS in Anchorage and it worked, the first EVDO smart phone and it was never let out, so some strange stuff does happen, I just do not think VZW would have motivation to flash LTE if they could, but just my opinion, could be wrong.
The "G" thing is more company hype and advertising than anything else. LTE is getting 20-35 MBPS with nobody else on it so when it is public, shared, groomed, and throttled who knows but I know it will whip WI-MAX ;-)
It Won't Happen..
LTE Will Require A Sort Of Sim Card...Droid Incredible Has No Sim Card Port. So We Won't Have LTE

Wimax/LTE chip?

4g wimax/ LTE both?
Got the epic a few weeks ago and the display sheet for the phone showed wimax and lte but the evo didn't. So I asked the sale person if it is a typo and he said no. The phone would need just the software to enable the LTE. He asked a co worker and he said the same. Does the epic actually have a wimax/lte enabled chip or are they just going by a typo? Was just wondering as I know sprint is looking at LTE now.
Highly doubt it...there isn't much of a way to get a sim card in the phone...
A combination flustercuck of a typo and reps who don't know what they were talking about.
Epic has no LTE hardware.
I figured they were stupid. I figured if they really put both chips in here the cost would be more kinda like a global phone. Would be cool though if they would and allowed us to use verizons lte just like roaming on the 3g side.

Lte doesn't need sim cards and he didn't say gsm say your response is not valid. I'm not 100% on this but all sprint has to do for lte is switch out very minor things. The only difference with our phones is the spectrum it is looking for. So since we have 4g and maybe the software can make it lte. Its possible I think.

Never. Different spectrum used and even then ATT and Verizon have no reason to sign roaming agreements when they are each others biggest competitors.

Uh Huh...show me an implementation for LTE that doesn't use a Sim card for network authentication.
I mean GSM doesn't "Require" a sim either, that can be spoofed with hardware...just sayin.
I mean at least in for me, I have put 32 Sim cards in Verizon Pantec UX260 USB Aircards for some reason....
They can configure these phones however they want. We have 4g with no sim card. 4g is almost exactly the same thing as lte just different frequency that's all.

Ummm no...the entire protocol is different.
there are currently 3 popular 4g implementations.
HSPA+ with Extended Backhaul (ATT, Tmo)
LTE (VZW, Metro, non national carriers, EVENTUALLY ATT and Tmo on different freqs)
WiMax (Sprint)
The only thing these share is the 4G monicker. The technologies are enitrely different, the protocol is entirely different, the modems are entirely different.

I saw. Some company announcing a dual lte/wimax chip about 6 months ago. Since the modem controls these chips it isn't a far stretch to have software that will switch modems as needed.
According to a seemingly knowledgeable manager I met with (he was down with rooting and xda lol) wimax is compatable with lte with a software update. But, honestly I doubt it.

That's what the 2 best buy employees said. Wasnt sure as most there are there for the money and know nothing. I asked if the evo had the LTE chip too as it wasnt listed and they said no but the Epic did. I couldnt imagine sprint leaving people hanging in today's phone battles. I will have to ask a store manager if they work there and see if they have any knowledge of it yet or if we will be able to roam. I thought LTE was near the same freq. for sprint and verizon with sprint just having the larger freq bandwidth due to LTE WIMAX.
This came up back when WiMAX was first being introduced. I remember the CEO for Clear said multiple times that the WiMAX infrastructure was software "swappable" to LTE. It wouldn't surprise me if phones were the same.

This is what i thought too. We dont have LTE in my country yet but DC-HSPA+ is available in many places. When i test with my USB modem (42Mbps supported) , i able to get download speed like 15Mbps where my i9305 only 5-6Mbps. I did the test at same location, same time.
I check the network monitor apps, it shown my phone connected to HSPA+ (21.6Mbps).. not DC.. but i m within strong DC coverage area.

May seem like a silly question but does your mobile carrier support DC?
If its the same provider as the dongle then it obviously does but that's not clear from the post.

Well with my I9305 My highest speed on DC-HSPA+ is almost 12mbs and my network is **** and they are also upgrading the network in my area and they are the last network to have 4g they should have it early 2013. I already bought a telstra sim and I am going to activate it soon to test it as they have very good 4G coverage, My freind reached 40mb+ download with his I9305 ON 4G with telstra.
I think i explained all this in the other thread regarding apps showing certain things, Your app most probably doesnt show DC-HSPA+ because some countries call it different and depends where the app was created. With the app called (Radio Mon) when i am connected to DC it shows (HSPA) where as the I9300 shows (HSDPA) but both phones show the H+ symbol. When I did some research on HSPA vs HSDPA I got the hint that HSPA is the more potentially faster one Im sure i already said this in the last thread when you asked this question

Yes I'm getting fast speeds but I can't help but wonder why this is happening. I mentioned that I'm with MTS so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. It is either the towers or your phone isn't compatible with the bands of LTE (there are multiple bands like there is with UTMS).

I'm pretty sure it isn't the towers cause my friends iPhone 5 is running off LTE and he live about 5 minutes away from my house. I've also been at distances one minute away from his house and did not pick up LTE then either. I don't know much about bands or frequencies but my carrier just launched the Galaxy S3's and they run off LTE and I'm assuming the Note 2 has the same hardware. S3: 700 (Band 17), 1700/2100 (AWS) MHz , Note 2: 700(band 17) 850 AWS 1,900(band 2). I'm clueless as to what those numbers mean but i'm guessing the important thing is Band 17, right?
Try going near his house then. Or have you checked the network settings? You may have to flash something.

I have to no avail. I had a friend try to help me out over the phone with network settings and his phone appears to have a setting that mine does not. When he goes into settings > wireless and network more settings > mobile network there is an option for him to toggle between LTE, HSPA+ etc. My phone doesn't have that for some reason. All that's listed is Mobile data, data roaming, Access point names, and network operators. Nothing to toggle between networks, which is probably what I need to enable LTE. I have no idea why that setting would be absent from my device. My friend was using an S3 on the same operating system as me btw.
From what i can tell it's the frequencies . The frequencies your device have seem to be different than the frequencies the s3 have on your carrier. If it's not that then you can check your apn settings.

What model is your phone, and what model is his phone. You said you brought your phone from a competing carrier who is likely using alternate frequencies that your phone might not be picking up either due to hardware or software limitations. Without knowing the hardware, and where it came from in the first place, we can't figure out what frequencies your phone is looking for and can't answer your question effectively.
download an app that will show you what is the type of connection you are actually on.
I think that maybe its the matter of incorrect icon.

Search. It's a powerful function
You shouldve done some research before purchasing if you specifically wanted one of those
Where I ordered it from it said that it would work on any gsm network and at&t is a gsm network if I'm not mistaken.

3G will be supported only.
EDIT: Actually I don't know as it the i9500 supports 2100MHz which is a frequency ATT uses (according to Wiki) for 4G. Wait for someone else from your region to confirm this as I'm just a Brit tryna help out.

You will definitely get data, the worst case it'll be Edge. However if you got the GSM version (I'm using s3 on AT&T), You will get 3.5G HSDPA which is very fast as well. I'm getting 5-6 Mbit.

LTE speeds on att with international galaxy s4
anyone got LTE to work on international s4 with att?
Tmobiles att for instance gets up to 38mbit download and over 20mbit upload in my area. But the cell reception in some specific areas has not improved in the last three years, thus considering staying with att, despite tmobile much better plans which they said to have launched in march.
