why this thread?
here all ROM http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

Yes, the Cellular South firmware is the US wifi version of this device. The country code for US devices is XAR and Samsung crosswalks that code to the words "cellular south" rather than "US" on many firmware sites, I don't know why.

Galaxy s original firmware

Hello everyone! Im new to android as the galaxy s2 is the first android phone I have.. Since i bought it and my wife saw it, she wanted an android phone also.
We bought her a used galaxy s (gt i9000) and to my knowledge it seems to have a unofficial rom (or something like that..) flashed. It has a program called "superuser" installed and the battery bar has % visible.. And also the lock screen seems to be a default android lock screen.. Anyway to flash an original samsung firmware to it? Ive used odin to flash the newest fw to my sg2 so maybe use that?
Hope you can help..

go to samfirmware.com , select a 2.3.3 or 2.2.1 firmware.
If the package is only a .tar file , use it in PDA and dont select .PIT and untick repartition box.
If the package has three files like PDA, CSC, PHONE, use .512 PIT and tick repartition.
hope this helps. also, there are a bunch of videos on youtube.com on how to flash galaxy I9000
this thread holds all the stock roms with some instructions for installation.
[REF] Stock Firmwares for Samsung Galaxy S I9000 series - Download Only
I would do a complete factory reset by entering these characters into the phone dialler
*2767*3855#
Then I would get a 3 file download of Android 2.2.1 and recommended PIT from Samfirmware and install using Odin and Re-Partition option.
When firmware is installed and phone has booted, do another factory reset.
This way the phone has a new firmware and is completely wiped.

[Q] Phone got locked....

hi guys, my galaxy y just got locked due to too many pattern lock attempts. Now I know how to flash firmware through Odin but the instruction says I have to know the firmware version of my phone before hand. The instruction asks me to check my firmware version by pressing *#*#1234#*#*
but all I could type on my phone is emergency number and that aint it. So could you guys please tell me how to check my phones firmware number....I think I can do the rest from there.
Thanks.

Yep! Format ur phone via recovery. Just goto recovery & select & confirm "wipe data/factory reset". It will not ask for pattern.
In future also, u may do this instead of updating whole firmware.

If you like to use Kies instead of Odin then you can disconnect your USB cable (phone) and go to Tools>Firmware Upgrade and Initialization and follow the instructions. You'll need to enter model number (case sensitive) like GT-I9500 and your mobile's serial number (from Settings>About Device).

Just let it be. When you open ODIN then it will have only 2 ticks. Dont tick more then that. Then select PDA (i.e. .tar) file & Press Start. Don't unplug the device until you get clear Ext button.
Note: Do check whether your Mobile has been detected by ODIN (A Green column will be highlighted in left upper corner).

No, this is actually a fail-safe way to upgrade your firmware in case the automatic Kies updater fails. You'll get to a step where you'll choose to factory reset or not, and you can always back up and restore data from Kies (you can back up before the whole upgrade process).
Odin is good, though. Basically the same thing. If you flash official ROM then your phone status will stay "Official" but the flash counter may increase. Kies method is official and will not threaten your warranty.

Yes correct it's a big file as lots of bloatware by Samsung and the OTA I is 343 mb
I would still suggest that download install and keep it even after flashing it I personally never trust KIES a stupid time waste waitng for it to complete
And ya even if u try doing thru KIES it myte take abt 3 hours as my friend took more then 4 hours having 1 mbps speed
And ya this won't increase a binary counter

Thanks very much mate! For your valuable information the kies is very bad... it tooks me 1.5 hour per season. .. I tried 2 times to upgrade my s4 but still not successful. Hmmm
I will definitely try download and flash it using ODIN. Sorry if I'm writing too much because I am absolutely noob to Samsung device.
One more thing? Its that the phone recovery in the kies are reliable? In case of brick or something how can I revive it.
Thank in advance

Where are you getting your stock rom files from
if it's from dokys thread you should have 3 files once unzipped
Pda csc & modem
Place Pda in pda
modem in phone
csc in csc
do not tick any boxes like repartition
if you have only 1 file you need to split it for use with odin (see dev section for the tool)
