Galaxy s original firmware - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello everyone! Im new to android as the galaxy s2 is the first android phone I have.. Since i bought it and my wife saw it, she wanted an android phone also.
We bought her a used galaxy s (gt i9000) and to my knowledge it seems to have a unofficial rom (or something like that..) flashed. It has a program called "superuser" installed and the battery bar has % visible.. And also the lock screen seems to be a default android lock screen.. Anyway to flash an original samsung firmware to it? Ive used odin to flash the newest fw to my sg2 so maybe use that?
Hope you can help..

go to samfirmware.com , select a 2.3.3 or 2.2.1 firmware.
If the package is only a .tar file , use it in PDA and dont select .PIT and untick repartition box.
If the package has three files like PDA, CSC, PHONE, use .512 PIT and tick repartition.
hope this helps. also, there are a bunch of videos on youtube.com on how to flash galaxy I9000

this thread holds all the stock roms with some instructions for installation.
[REF] Stock Firmwares for Samsung Galaxy S I9000 series - Download Only

I would do a complete factory reset by entering these characters into the phone dialler
*2767*3855#
Then I would get a 3 file download of Android 2.2.1 and recommended PIT from Samfirmware and install using Odin and Re-Partition option.
When firmware is installed and phone has booted, do another factory reset.
This way the phone has a new firmware and is completely wiped.

[Q] HELP - Firmware upgrade

My Galaxy TAB is running P1000XXJID
I tried to do an upgrade using Odin but it failed. I guess I must be missing something.
Can someone point me to a step by step guide for dummies on how to upgrade the ROM?
Thanks in advance.
You will need to download a FULL firmware like JJ4 which has everything you need, including PIT file needed. Using Odin, select the PIT, CSC, Modem and Phone in there appropriate slots, select all areas, repartition, auto reboot, reset time and go. Then for non FULL firmwares, like JK1, you can just update the one area, without repartition.
This is how I did it anyway.....
Files
Which is which?
In the folder for JJ4 I have CSC, ALL, MODEM and pit.
is MODEM == Phone
and ALL == PDA?
What is the benefit of flashing the new rom?

Had asia firmware, switched to jm6 and then to jma.
Also changed my csc from thailand to germany.
Now i have access to 7 apps in the samsung app. (including nfs shift and asphalt 5).

Heimdall Firmware Package

Does there exist a Heimdall Firmware Package for the 9100?
I have the US AT&T phone, but I'd put any language into it at this point.
Hi,
U can use download the roms.
extract the files.
use the latest Heimdall to install the rom.
No need for packages.
Just read the readme doc and guide before using Heimdall.
Also first install the driver for your phone, and extract and download the pit file of your phone.
Then use the pit file to install the files from the rom.
Hope this helps.
Hi, please help! All the firmwares for galaxy s2 I have downloaded don't have a PIT included in the tar. I have downloaded them from this site both from the branded firmwares and the unbranded ones. Where do I get the PIT?
Thanks.

NEVER use a pit file PERIOD
Thanks for your reply. How do I get heimdall to flash without the PIT? Everything I have read says you need to browse for that in order to flash if you don't have a heimdall package.

First question before this post is moved is why do you want to flash via Heimdall .
Why not just flash using ODIN .

In my case: Because it means I have to reboot into windows just for that. Everything else is on Linux.

you can use heimdal to extract the current pit from your phone, save the file on your pc and use it for flashing kernels & stuff.

Stock la4 is german

Hi just thought id help u guys who have upgraded your firmware to the newest stock la4 from the android developement section..
Which means u have to change ur country sales code (csc) to DBT which is the german csc.
After u have done that then u will be able to upgrade ur phone trough kies when the next update will be available.
If u dont have the right csc kies will say that it doesnt support ur phone..
I used the sgs csc selector which is available at the market and it worked fine for me!

Thanks for the Info.
I did install a stock rom but it was different to the country sales code i had.
Therefore Kies came up with the error message like you stated.
I am going to use that app now.
Only got the one csc showing can't change it however.. Any other ideas without root etc?

What I don't get is why the German released Note's are getting all the updates but no updates at all are being pushed out to certain other regions. I have a black German note which is updated now to the latest LA4 but my white Portuguese Note is still on KK5 and says no updates are available OTA.
does changing the Csc perform a master reset?
I have read in another thread that if you do change the CSC it will perform a master reset.
Portuguese note here, also stuck on kk5.... :-/

@HasC
That's correct. It's better to use Odin PC since it won't do a factory reset since the only thing it'll do is upgrading. And no, it won't affect the binary counter.
Just download LA4 and Odin from here and follow the steps in the second post.
Briefly told the only steps are:
- Download LA4
- Open Odin
- Hit "PDA" and choose the md5-file
- Press "Start"
- Wait
- Done
If you're rooted and still want to be rooted when you upgrade to LA4, flash LA4 from the device itself using CWM or Odin Mobile
LordManhattan: how about if you just want to change the CSC? i'm on a stock LA4 rooted..
Btw, Never ever flash a custom ROM using Odin PC. If you do that the binary counter will get touched. For example, if you want to flash Rocket ROM or CM9 or whatever, always flash it from the device itself.
Only use Odin PC when you want to flash a stock ROM like LA4 and stuff like that.
If you want to keep root, then always flash directly from the device. Not Odin PC.

Thanks for that, but I have already flashed to LA4 and was going to change the CSC to the German one if it meant that using the OP's app suggestion meant not having to do a master reset.

Then it'll perform a factory reset and delete everything on the phone (except the things on the SD card)

master reset
yes it will reset ur phone but the google account will retrieve all ur downloaded softwares for u..
there have been a lot of talk about the german roms and apparently they always seem to get the updates first thats why i changed my scandinavian rom to stock german la4 hopeful of getting the next updates as soon as possible..
lordmanhattan thanks for the info, i have personally been avoiding using odin at all because of the counter, are u sure it wont count the stock flashing?
heard anything about counter reset developement is it near finish or available already?
Odin is safe to use as long as you only flash stock ROMs. It won't touch the binary counter, but it will do it if you flash a custom ROM with Odin. If you want to flash a custom ROM, use CWM or Odin Mobile from the Market.

Where are you getting your stock rom files from
if it's from dokys thread you should have 3 files once unzipped
Pda csc & modem
Place Pda in pda
modem in phone
csc in csc
do not tick any boxes like repartition
if you have only 1 file you need to split it for use with odin (see dev section for the tool)
