[Q] Samsung Galaxy XCover 2 GT S 7710 - Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 Questions & Answers

Hi Folks,
Today i received my Samsung Galaxy XCover 2 GT S 7710
Now i want to look, if there is a way to root my Phone, but i am even not able to find a section for this phone @ XDA ..
So please answer my two questions.
Will there be a forum section for this phone?
Is it possible to root?
With Google, i found a few tools for root. For example "Oneclickroot.exe" - But i do not trust them - even if Jotti did not find anything bad on it.
Best regards
spotting

ADB Driver?
Well, it looks that i am not able to find working ADB driver
ok, it is a brand new phone ... but this sucks.

i waiting too for this phone, he is on the way

Root Galaxy Xcover 2
I'm also interested in rooting the Xcover 2, because the internal SD has only 1,08 GB.

Yes, please make an own section for the GT-S7710! And if anybody knows how to root this device, a guide would be very appreciated!

279.90 EUR on Ebay http://www.ebay.ie/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261187263901 maybe you found better deal on internet.

I found nice polish website with all firmware to this phone: http://sampro.pl/firmware/android/samsung-gt-s7710/

Hi, I am having the same problem. But it says 4gb internal storage on samsungs site, and the site i bought it from. 1gb is not enough for one playlist on spotify!
Any ideas of where the last 3gb is?

I am not sure. but the system uses 3 gb for ROM etc.

Damn, I feel tricked buying this phone. I can not get a few spotify-lists on it, and I cannot get Gta III on it either, my old but a bit laggy Xperia Go seems so much better at this moment, at least I had 2gb of internal storage

i got today this phone, and he dont have a LED notification light ?? :/

****, i got bootloop and ODIN and KIES can`t fix that :/ cant enter to stock recovery to make full wipe, only can enter in DOWNLOAD mode

I must admit, Samsung does not act good with the free space. We only have the choice to wait for some root functions, then a2sd, then to be more happy.
Im wondering if there is a dev. who likes to work with the xcover.

Lets hope there is, I am liking evey bit about this phone except the storage.. I asked Samsung about this, and he actually suggested a microSD card.. Those support guys are hopeless

Fingers crossed
Anyone tried this rooting method?

I got this phone today. I just couldn't afford (or justify buying) the Galaxy S III. I thought there was 4GB internal storage too. I can't even move apps to SD.
I would love if someone decided to root this phone. It's a fine phone other than the storage issue.

I found in some german forum, one user says to this method:
"Bei OneClickRoot muss man ein Programm auf dem PC installieren. Keine Ahnung, ob es irgendeine Gefahr darstellt, zumindest sendet es aber Daten an einen Server. Rooten kann man das Xcover 2 damit allerdings. Irgendwann bricht das Programm mit der Meldung ab, dass die Android-Version noch nicht gerootet werden kann."

He is saying that you have to install an extra program on your pc. Who knows if there is any security, however the program sends some data to servers. Though you can root the xcover with this method. Suddenly the program aborts with the message "you cant root this version of android."
So this is really contradictory. I didnt try this, I already have a lot of sensible data on my phone, and dont want it being sent to any server.

Uninstalling updates and deactivating them helps alot on space. Spotify now also offers to save songs to SDcard, I just had to clear the data and try again. Spotify automaticly picks the best place to store songs by checking space.
Now my Xcover 2 has 680mb free internal memory with all the apps I need and spotify. At last I can begin to download some games

Do you think someone will root this in the future?

Galaxy S2 Apps / Root Question

Evening folks, im a regular on the HD2 forums ive had one now since last year and a great phone it is too and has served me well but i simply must have a Galaxy S2 and as soon as i have enough cash ill be buying one SIM free.
I have lots of apps on my rooted HD2, maybe 70% from the Android market and the rest are apk's i picked up here and other websites, am i correct in saying that i will need to have a rooted phone in order for these apps (the ones i didn't get from the market) work on my phone or can i just install them via root explorer?
Also is it easy enough to root the Galaxy S2, im not a noob when it comes to flashing ROM's,etc but im so used to the HD2 now it'll take some time getting used to the Galaxy S2 when i do get one.
Any info appreciated.
cheers

You should install the apk's without any problems. You can still install them if they require root, and your phone is not rooted.
Yes, it is very easy to root this awesome device

Thanks for that, i do plan on rooting it anyway when i get it which will hopefully in the next 3/4 weeks, gonna be sad selling my HD2 but more excited about getting this amazing phone.
Look forward to it. Most awesome phone ever! I honestly ever had a better device than this.

There's a setting in the SII which allows you to install apk's from unknown manufacturers. I've downloaded some .apk's myself and installed them without having to root or download an extra app.

Not possible to move apps to SD

Is this something new for phones? It's pretty ridiculous, and kind of makes me wish I had waited for the 32gb version if I had known such a simple feature would be gone :l

Hi,
It's a 4.2.2 "Feature"
It's for the greater good. New generation NAND smokes microSD performance, and you don't wanna bottleneck your device by multitasking from SD. On the other hand 16GB should be dropped entirely, we're talking very minimal cost difference for Samsung, so why not start at 32gigs or 64 and go all the way up to 256? This is HD era, nothing comes in small size.

Hi,
Also the "16GB" is actually only 9.15GB on my phone.
The system eats a fair portion of it.
Before 4.2.2 could you move to sd without rooting then? And will it really kill memory card If i rooted and use folder mount

So what to do now? :-/ I bought the "16" GB phone being a former Apple user with they expectation of "hey cool, I got an 32 SD card lying around, no problem", when now I end up in a situation where I am expected to do exactly what?? Uninstall all my apps and never download any music?
Still taking any and all suggestions...

That's the reason I'm waiting for the 32GB version.
I did the same with the Galaxy S III though I can't understand why they delay the release of the 32GB that much.. I'm pretty sure a lot of people are waiting for that one, right?
And btw, you can put your music on the µSD card, it's just the installed apps that are a problem.
Thanks, yeah you are right. Not sure though if some apps will be smart enough to route downloaded music to my SD card??
While we're at it: My problem is basically the "cloudsync" and more so the "DocumentSync" folder, the latter is > 6 GB large! Anyone knows what that is?
I want to reduce this size, my phone is brand-new!

Swyped from another galaxy
Thanks, indeed. I deactivated all that cloud-syncing nonsense, which solved my problem for now. Now I have a few weeks or months until I have to think again what to do. :-/
Is "Swyped from another galaxy" that a joke on the Samsung Galaxy keyboard system? lol
You're probably looking at 24gb on the 32gb version so a bunch more memory.
Most people will in fact be fine with 9gb though, power users who download a lot of really inefficient apps that cache a lot of things and require a lot of storage should get the 32gb version. I personally will be fine with the 16gb version.
You may be right. I got 2.1 GB of apps for 151 apps, which averages out at 14 MB per app, while I had the feeling that most of my apps are less than 8 MB, oh well. -.-
I won't download any more apps though, but I am sure photographs and stuff will quickly snatch up the remaining 5 GB of space that I freed now...
Will try to find a setting to put my photos on the SD card by default. Any tips (or links to a thread / tutorial about that) are appreciated.

Yeah i am also waiting for the 32GB version because of the same reason.
my htc one s 16gb has 2gb dedicated to apps. for me plenty atm. that's independent of the 9.93 internal sdcard, don't know if s4 is same. however, as mentioned, 16gb phones are too small now days and i won't pay for the s4 till it gets 32gb on att and black--
also don't think i can post links to other forums per xda. but if you google "att 32gb s4", there is a link to an att forum specifically for the 32gb release and an active att moderator--just fyi

Really? cant u save on the sd card by defalut ????
First of all.. If u want to store ur camera photos on sd card use camera zoom fx.. It's a very good camera app and there u can choose where to store the photos
The second.. U have 8,8 gb on stock firmware if u install a custom rom in a few weeks it will be more free space because of some bloatware installed on the stock and files we dont need i think.. Let the dev's do there great job

For photos there's a setting in the camera app which let's you select which storage to use. If it's not there use a file explorer to copy your photos across to your sd card.

Q. How are you managing with 9gb free memory? Your feedback please

It seems the 16gb S4 is still the only option at the moment in the UK, I originally cancelled my order when I found out about the internal memory issue and the fact you can't save apps to the sd card. If you root some of my banking apps won't work, so that is not an option, not that apps work all the time properly on the sd card anyway. Also if you rent films from Googlr these cache in internal memory.
So for all you 16gb owners what is the internal memory space left , what have you installed and how much of an inconvenience is it, if at all. Please be honest, I just want to see what you can get on each of your S4's. Are any of you struggling already or believe you might.
Your help here will make me decide whether I just bite the bullet and compromise with the 16gb. Thanks in advance.
I've been a bit more careful than usual, not installed any of the big storage hog games, disabled Document Sync (which inexplicably tries to fill the internal storage with dropbox content), moved TomTom data to the SD card, and now have about 100 applications installed and 6Gb of space left. Not really a problem for me as yet, I'm using DiskUsage to monitor the situation. I'm also dithering about the One, but at the moment I'd rather have the 9Gb+64Gb SD card than the One's 25Gb. Might change if I have problems later and the One gets a 64Gb variant.
Thanks for feedback. One of my friends has only 2.5gb free now and hasn't installed any of his fav games. No room if he tried.
Anybody else got feedback.
it's kind of dumb that it has this amazing quad core processor and one of the best phone gpu's around and yet, you cant even install all the best games on it... lol
I think a potential cure will be for android itself to have a proper api to utilize external SD for heavy resources like those in the obb folder.
Unfortunately I don't think google will support this since they have been on a no SD card agenda for quite a while now.

Rooting isn't the cure. I know for a fact that some of the banking apps won't work with a rooted device. Also, internal memory functions better so don't mind all apps being there but really need a bigger memory to start off with.

For me the 9Gb of storage is enough i don't generally game on my phone, and only install what i use, music, vids & pictures all go onto my SD card.
But i think the S4 should have launched at 32Gb this time around, back in the day the S1 launched with 8Gb, when the S2 came it was bumped upto 16Gb at launch
I think the easiest option really would be for Samsung to come up with a way to allow you to save apps to SD card, even though Jellybean doesn't have this feature.
I do think though when the S5 arrives next year 32Gb will be standard, with options of 64Gb & 128Gb to.
I don't have any problems... Lots of apps and a few games installed... Batman, GTA, mini motor... I don't have much time to play but nice with the opportunity

Sendt fra SGS4
Doesn't bother me at all as I don't game on my phone. If you're a gamer then it might sting a little but apart from that music is via google play and photos in the 32 gig SD card
I store my ROM and app backups on my external SD (32 GB G-Skill class 6).

[Q] Is it really worth rooting a Note 3 ?

I have a Galaxy note 3, bought in October last year. I am at odds over where to root it or not as the Samsung ROMS aren't awful and Rooting does void the warranty, what are people experiences with this in general ?
Depending on what you want to do. As casual user I'd say you don't have to have an rooted device. If you're power user tho I'd recommend it

Wondering more as I have a rooted Huawei P6 which is great but having 1 rooted device is it really worth rooting a £600 phone ? Suppose it makes more sense to do it out of warrant. May wait until the Note 4 comes out and then root my Note 3.
Probably well if you have an rooted device you know the features. For me the power is enough I like the phone it is. The only few things I want root access for is adblock and special app administrative tools. If you're good to go without them I don't see a reason to take the risk

Like others have said, it depends on what you want to do. Me personally, cant live with out a rooted device. I have so many tweaks that make my life easier and improve overall performance.
Simple things like adding call recording to stock phone app.
Adding call button directly in call logs.
Expanded volume panel.
Removing the crap Samsung clipboard with its security loop hole.
Removing all bloatware.
Just stuff like that. But if your a user that doesn't really care about tweaks, that sure; its probably better not to root and risk the trouble of bricking.

If you're unfortunate to live in one of the biggest phone markets in the world and yet be lied to by Samsung by releasing a 16GB version of Note 3, then yes, rooting is a definite go.
Now I can save/move games and all the other apps that take plenty of space, my phone can breathe a lot easier.
Also, does Samsung truly believe users who have been using their phone daily months on end that they require all these stupid pop-ups telling you "If you turn on airplane mode, you will won't be able to access network blah blah" or "Turning this too loud will damage hearing".
The first few times, yes I understand it's a pre-warning, but everytime? I'm so thankful that mods like the Xposed Framework with Wanam's Xposed has allowed me to customise my phone to how I want it and to add/remove features that Samsung decided to choose for us because they think it benefits the users, when really, it does the opposite.
Yes
You are so rite we as the end user should have the choice not Sammy lol
I am the same i rooted because i was sick of paying hundreds of dollars to "OWN"
a phone and not to be able to do what i like to it
Now i am rooted i have control over what i bought and i love it ............:good::highfive::laugh:
Imo, it is worth it. Even if you only do it for xposed it's worth it.

If you have to ask yourself or anyone else this question the answer is NO. always NO.

kitkat in the uk at last

Kitkat here in the UK at last.
No problems installing.
So far so good, have not noticed much difference yet, but yes it does seem a little smoother.
CNH3 build number like in Germany
I can confirm, I'm in UK also, and I am downloading OTA as we speak!! (slowly)
Funny thing is I checked on KIES and it says no update.

I always have been checking Sammobile website everyday ... what pointless and waste of time as its not even on there either.
Just updated after a tediously slow download.
Now up and running 4.4.2 without any problems. Now to give it a day or so and see how it goes I suppose
I'm getting silky smooth operation so far. About time, I paid enough for this unit so the least they can do is iron out the problems!
Ah well, better late than never as the saying goes.!
Yup, installed it now and performance and navigation is dam fast. Not sure about the battery which many have highlighted as an issue so will keep my eyes peeled on his this one for now.

So I'm going to install this update tomorrow hopefully. Can anyone let me know if they have encountered any issues with YouTube app, I'm positive some people had issies when they installed kitkat not sure what region it was tbh.
Also have yous encountered any other issues at all yet, big or small?
I'm ever so cautious since I got stung pretty badly with the S3 update many months ago which they had to stop thanks to it being a disgrace of an update.

Yeah restricted SD card access - We're just going to have to get used to it a guess.
I don't have much apps on my Tablet and I have about 9GB still free on my internal memory so I reckon I'll manage hopefully.

Yeah thats what I'm going to do if it affects me, I think al be alright with space and what not as I dont really have much apps tbh. And any videos and MP3 I want on my tablet can still be transferred onto SD card.

I just save things to phone mem use the built in file manager if I need to move anything onto card. My s5 is kitkat and it's the same deal.
3rd party apps have had their sd card permissions removed, stops apps littering the card with rubbish.

It depends on the user as well. You and a few others might not need SD card permissions but for someone like me with a lot of heavy games, emulator games like ps1, movies/videos and other large apps, a 32GB micro SD is a blessing

Yeah I have a 64GB SD Card and tbh I only have like 10GB worth of stuff on it at the minute. I don't use my tablet to the level I used to, I still use it a LOT but my main uses are surfing the net and LOADS of YouTube.
Although I'm going on Holiday next month so I'm going to tranfer about 50GB worth of HD documentaries and all sorts ... Love the ability to do that.

Some developers have written their apps now with SD card access. It is laziness by some that they have not yet.
See Maps Me for an example of how to do it. They were very quick, a great app.
What on earth!! Just finished work so thought I'd download the update and then install ... says its ganna take an 1hr09 to download just 600MB!! Talk about slow.

It will be, there's thousands of users been waiting forever for it to be released !
In fact, they may well have capped the speed to distribute it fairly. Mine took about an hour.
