[Q] Sync with Outlook on Desktop PC - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have outlook installed on my PC (no exchange server) and I would like to sync the calendar with my Nexus 7.
I want to do this via USB or WiFi.
I don't want to use Gmail or any other third party calendar.
I don't want to sync via the web.
I can do this with my Galaxy S2, is it possible with the Nexus?
I have looked at Jorte, but it looks like it syncs via the cloud.
I have looked at Android Sync Manager, but although the PC and Nexus can commmunicate with each other they won't sync. I'm not sure how to tell the PC to sync with a calendar on the Nexus, or get the Nexus to sync with Outlook.
I have looked at Touch Calendar, but it looks like it will only use the google calendar.
thanks

I use MyPhoneExplorer (have been since Gingerbread broke syncing on my previous Desire Z). It is, however, not perfect, and while the calendar side is fine I do occasionally find duplication in the contacts on my phone, resulting in me having to mass delete them and then resync twice (first time cancelling so it does not delete them on Outlook itself).

Help with sync setup

Hello all, I would really appreciate some guidance on how to properly setup my syncing.
Today I sync my Hero (3G stock) with Outlook 2007 on my Win XP home computer with HTC sync, and also with my Exchange account at work (HTC sync -> Outlook on Mac via VMware). And of course the phone in its turn synchronizes with the Google cloud. And as an extra bonus I'm running Google Calendar Sync at the home computer. This goes for calendar and contacts, the mails I don't sync at all.
This results in having:
1. Multiple entries of every item, i.e on the phone I have one contact entry called "phone" and one duplicate called "Google" for every contact I have. Same for the calendar.
2. By syncing with 2 different computers I always gets some conflicts when doing the synchronization and I usually have to run every sync 2-3 times before it's complete.
Sorry for being unclear, would like to sort this out. How have you set it up? I thought about skipping the HTC sync at work and running only Google Calendar Sync, but it turns out my company's firewall is blocking this.
Well, no response here, but for further reference I can write down that I have solved it so far by deleting all "Phone" items on the Hero and to sync the calendar with Google Calendar Sync, and for the contacts I use a service called Soocial (www.soocial.com) which seems pretty nice.

How Do I Sync Outlook and Vibrant?

Hi, all.
The manual for Vibrant, beginning on Page 120, talks about using Samsung Kies to sync files between the PC and Vibrant. I downloaded Kies version 1.5.1.10071_32 through samsungapps.com. Installed no problem on my 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS. I've got 32-bit Outlook 2010 installed.
I enabled the USB connection through Kies on my phone. Drivers installed no problem when the phone was connected through USB.
First time using Kies, contacts sync'd up just fine. Calendar, not so much. Nothing sync'd.
Subsequent attempts to connect the phone sometimes hangs Kies. When the connection is successful, and I attempt to sync, my entire calendar will be imported into Kies, but only a few of the appointments get into the phone. Sometimes no appointments get into the phone. There's no rhyme or reason to what makes it, what doesn't, and it varies from attempt to attempt.
I live and die by Outlook, and trying to make the move to Gmail won't work for me.
Let me add something here. I don't like clouds. Clouds conjure up visions of rain, darkness, thunder and lightning, wind, floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. Scary stuff. That's why I'm not too big on using Gmail to sync the phone. It also doesn't work real well when the rest of the business world relies on Outlook. For the time being, I've exported my contacts and calendar to CSV DOS files, then uploaded them to Gmail. This is what I have to do everytime I want to update my phone, and it's a pain in the butt.
Even though my US Vibrant manual says to use Kies to sync the phone, the Samsung Apps website makes no indication of any support for US phones, and says my country is not supported by the site. Of the phones listed for other countries (including Canada and the United Kingdom), the Galaxy S is not listed.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Any third party apps that work well?
Thanks in advance for all comments and suggestions.
I am assuming you're using Outlook without an Exchange server? This phone syncs just fine if you have an Exchange server.

Right. No Exchange server.
One other thing.
The initial contacts sync works great, subsequent contacts sync hangs at 35%, forced close, then a re-sync destroys the contact list.
I have the same problem. Coming from an Iphone this is the only downside I found with Android.
My Iphone was able to sync outlook (contacts, calendar and notes) + my internet favorites.
Now I use
- KIES for sync my contacts
- google sync to sync my calendar
I didn't found a way to sync my notes or my IE favorites
Still searching
Otherwise there is some third party soft like CompanionLink but they cost $$
Another option for you if you use GMail as your mail provider (via Outlook) is to use Google Calendar Sync. It will sync your Outlook Calendar with your GMail Calendar, which would then automatically Sync with your Android device. That's how I've been doing it since I've had my G1 and it's worked great...no need to plug in and sync anything.

Google Calendar Sync does not yet work with Outlook 2010.

I've been doing the same thing for over a year via OutLook. I just set it up at work as a Scheduled Task and it runs 30minutes before I go home. Keeps the IT guys off my back if they happen to look at my Task Bar and see thing odd running.
TouchDown
I am testing out a trial version of Exchange TouchDown by NitroDesk.
I am not able to post the link but you can google it.
It syncs email, contact, calendar and tasks via USB for stand alone Outlook as well as OTA sync to your Exchange mailbox. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you.
I have a different issue... Outlook 2003. I start out with all contacts LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. I sync and all of my contacts last and first names are now transposed in my PC. Now they show FIRST NAME, LAST NAME. It isn't just a function of 'sorting' for when I click on a contact on my PC, the contact's first and last names have actually swapped.
Anybody else experiencing this or have any suggestions? I really like this phone but the absolute lack of being able to update contacts via USB sync (do not like the cloud idea AT all either) is making me think about returning it. Thanks!

[MISC] Calendar syncing with Outlook

Just thought I'd share my experience on this. Before I got my DZ, I was used to sync'ing my Outlook calendar (Outlook 2007) with my WinMo phone (TP2).
With the DZ, I thought I would use HTC's own HTC Sync software. This can sync various items to the phone from a PC, e.g. calendar, bookmarks, files, contacts, etc. You can download it from HTC's website - http://www.htc.com/uk/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=1058&news_id=804
However, I found it didn't handle repeating appointments properly at all, something I've raised with HTC (but had no response yet). If I change one instance of a repeat appointment (e.g. different time, or deleted it), it just didn't seem to pick it up, and didn't sync the change to my phone.
I then thought I would try out Google Calendar Sync - http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=98563
Google Calendar Sync works much, much better. I sync'd my Outlook Calendar with Google Calendar initially, then removed my "PC Sync" calendar from my phone, and sync'd my Google Calendar with my phone. It is working fine so far, it picks up things like changes in single instances of repeat appointments.
I'm still using HTC Sync for sync'ing bookmarks and photos, but not my calendar any more.

Coming from the exact same old phone and doing the exact same process, I wound up doing the exact same thing!
Problem is google calendar sync doesn't work with Outlook 64 bit.
I am using a product called CompanionLink - but it's only a 15 day trial

[Q] synch with outlook calender

Hi Just got my first tablet. Can anybody tell me if you can synch my outlook calender with my nexus 7 calender, don't want to synch it via google calender, wondered if it can be done with out synching to google first or if there is an app i can use. thanks
There are add-on for Chrome to google sync for your computer browser. I know Chrome has them for sure...
You can go to the email app and log in with your email account you use with outlook.
Then android should sync your account as a outlook account and also your calendar schould be synced
I have set up nexus 7's email app to synch with my outlook email, but no where in email settings on nexus does it elude to synching calendar, anybody help. Thanks
This is how we do it on the phone. I just got my N7 yesterday and while contacts and e-mail have synced fine using this method, my calendar has not yet synced.
http://androidforums.com/android-ap...-party-app-exchange-server-3.html#post2858642
Is this a local calendar? Like you just use Outlook as a POP client, or do you log into an Exchange server. If Exchange, the default mail app on the N7 supports Activesync and you can set it up for your mail server.
If it's just a local account then you would probably need to sync it through Gmail or find an app for the tablet and a program for the computer that allows you to sync when. You plug it in or provide an OTA sync when your PC is on. This might work for you.

OK, I got my Outlook calendar syncing now. For some reason I had to create a the Exchange account from within the calendar app on the N7 for it to work. Same account as I already created in Settings. Thankfully, it doesn't show as 2 separate accounts. If you setup your Outlook to sync as in the thread I posted earlier it will work fine. You don't need to have a Hotmail account, either.
Have managed to synch my outlook emails, but only the inbox, won't snych sub folders in outlook inbox.
Looks like i will have to find a program and app, as its a local account i want to synch, don't want to bother with exchange server
Have also tried to import my contacts from outlook to the stock nexus 7 people app, but outlook will only export as a .csv file and nexus people will only import as a vcard file, any ideas.
Try my phone explorer from the Google play store and install the pc version on your pc. Syncs contacts, calendar & tasks using USB, WiFi or Bluetooth directly with the Outlook data on your pc. Check the installation screenshot for details:
Dead cookies leave no trails...
Thanks will have a look at it. Do you know if it synchs with the stock nexus 7 calendar or does it add its own calendar to tablet and synch that with outlook.

I had the same frustration when I first came to android. I have found that these three apps work best for me. I like these because you set them up once and everything stays in sync automatically.
For syncing music on PC:
- iSyncr (from Play Store): This lets you sync your itunes library with your phone.
For syncing pics, videos on PC:
- Picasa (runs on PC) The Picasa app syncs pics and videos on your PC with your Picasa account, which syncs automatically with your phone.
For contacts/calendar/tasks in Outlook
- gSyncit (runs on PC): This syncs your Outlook contacts/calendar/tasks to your gmail account, which syncs contacts/calendar/tasks automatically with your phone.
I have found this works so well, that now I use Picasa and gSyncit for syncing photos, video, and Outlook with my ipad (instead of iTunes).
Why don't you just copy and paste whatever you need from PC to your phone?

1. That would not keep things in sync (I think OP was asking about syncing). e.g., if I make a change to my Outlook calendar and a different change to my phone calendar, I want both to reflect both changes.
2. Copying and pasting every time I change something would be more work.
For the calendar you should be able to sync to Google calendar. Then as long as you use the same calendar what you put in on your phone is on your computer the next second.

Contacts sync can be done tru google account also I think it goes same for pictures and calendar. Music and videos I just use external card to copy any new in to it. I also had 3 iPhones and I never make iTunes to work on my PC. I never try but Kies could do a trick too.
