How to install firmware?
(source)
Download a firmware (example from http://goo.gl/ki6We)
Download the Rockchip USB driver: RockusbDriver.rar
Download the Flash Tool: flash tool.rar
Installation the Rockchip USB Driver:
You should connect your MX1 to your PC or laptop (note: you must connect the OTG port, not DC 5V charaging port).
Open MX1 settings:
USB - click "connect to pc"
developer options - click "USB debugging"
Storage - click "mass storage"
So your MX1 will recognize your PC or laptop, an installation interface will pop up.
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635906&stc=1&d=1357914922
Click "Browse" button to select the corresponding system, according to the actual situation of the drive path.
Click on the "Next" button, follow the instruction in the picture, and the installation has been done.
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635907&stc=1&d=1357914922
Open your download tool "flash tools\RKBatchTool.exe", and choose "update.img".
Then the screen will appear the picture below.
And choose the pre-downloaded new firmware update, follow the picture instruction.
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635908&stc=1&d=1357914922
Use the USB to micro USB cable to connect your PC and TV (note: you must connect the OTG port, not DC 5V charaging port).
Then open your MX1settings: Settings - Storage - (Menu) USB computer connection - Mass Storage
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635909&stc=1&d=1357914922
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635913&stc=1&d=1357914922
Close MX1 setting: settings - developer options - delete "USB debugging".
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635914&stc=1&d=1357914922
When all of settings you have done, you will see your "flash tools\RKBatchTool.exe" as follow, the tool will recognize MX1 and the purple light will turn on.
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635915&stc=1&d=1357914922
The last step is to click "update" button.
If all went well, the green light will turn on, you have updated MX1 successfully!
See screenshot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1635917&stc=1&d=1357914922
After you finish the update successfully, you can check "Setting" - "My device", the build number will change...
The most important: After you flash this firmware, and next time, when we release new firmware, you don't need to flash in this hard way, you can just copy the firmware *.img file, and rename it to "update.img" and paste it to your Micro SD Card, insert the micro SD card to iMito MX1 and then connect MX1 with TV, the system will inform you "there is a new firmware update detected, and if you want to update", just click "yes", and the flash will go by itself.
So enjoy your new firmware, any questions, please feel free to report to us. :good:

Q/A
[Q:] When you power OFF device... How do you turn it back ON?
[A:] Ctrl+Alt+Del works on most keyboards, and wireless also. :good:
[Q:] What is the difference between MX1 and MX2?
[A:]
MX1: metal case - MX2: plastic case
MX1: better heat dissipation - MX2: better wifi signal
Both have different Bluetooth chips. Both work on all current ROMs. (source)
[Q:] My stick will not clock above 1.2 GHz, where is the 1.6 GHz?
[A:] In fact it IS a 1.6 GHz processor. It's downclocked to 1.2 because of temperature and stability. However in benchmarks the same hrdware gets more points for CPU performance in the downlclocked MX1 than in the MK808. A better optimized 1.2 is much more effective than a crappy 1.6. (source)

I got mine few days ago. Seems like this stick is getting more and more popular. Everything on this stick is very smooth. HD streaming from my server via WLAN works perfect (1080p mkv files too). Was hoping for more 3D performance but it´s still OK. GTA Vice city runs perfect.
But I am having trouble with gamepads, pretty hard to get them to work correctly. GTA is the only program where the XBox controllers work like they should after I used xpad.ko from the arctools app. USB/BT Joystick center doesn´t recognize any sticks I plug in. Still testing though...

Thanks for the review man!
Do you think this is the best stick available on the market? I'm just starting to research on these, and just curious which one is the best bet in the long run, to be supported with newer roms?

Well, I would lie if I say it´s the best one because I didn´t test other sticks, only phones. I bought the stick because people who own the 802, 808 or other devices say that the imito is the best stick right now. I took their advice and I am happy with that.
I noticed some issues with the WLAN connection today. To me it looks like the signal is dropping from time to time but gets back up after 2 or 3 seconds and if you search for this issue you will find people who are reporting the same. I do not have this problem with my other devices so it´s the imitos fault I think. The current stable firmware version does not support "true 1080p" output. As far as I found out it´s 720p upscaled to 1080p which makes the picture look a little bit unsharp. There is a custom ROM from a guy named Finless who took the latest beta ROM with true 1080p support and added some stuff and fixes. I think this will improve the stick even more but I will report back after that.
Oh and just to make things clear: I own the imito MX2 not the MX1 - but just the cases differ from those two. The imito MX1 has serious WLAN problems because of the metalcase. It´s nice to see a company noticing their own mistakes and listening to the community, otherwise the MX2 would not exist
Edit: One thing I am not able to check right now is that people are complaining that the rk3066 does not support surround sound output. The signal gets downmixed to stereo regardless of which source. My av-reciever is built into a shelf and for that I have no opportunity to check this myself.
Edit2: Just read my text, hope my english is still okay

There is a rom for the iMito MX1 & MX2: http://www.freaktab.com/showthread....2-Finless-ROM-1-5-Root-debloat-init-d-support

yeah that´s the one I was talking about. I will backup my device and install this rom in about 1 hour

doesn't matter which you buy, the moment it arrives there are more and more better on the market.
At the moment there are quadcore processor ones too, and next week on the CES you'll see more of these...
However about imito mx1/2
the wifi and BT driver are not open source, so until Mediatek doesn't release source for these drivers, you'll not have many custom roms.
BUT
1. no need for it, stock rom is fast and snappy
2. if you not willing to use wifi or BT (internet can come through USB-LAN adapter from router), you can use any custom rom made for MK808 devices.

Hard MX1 firmwares collection: http://goo.gl/ki6We :good:

wish more people here would jump on this. i have the mx2 and its a decent little device. i am grabbing a usb wifi adapter today and going to push the new drivers to the device when i get home. the internal wifi chip is not all that great. i had a hell of a time figuring out that unless you are within 10-15 feet of the router, it just wont connect. but with a external usb adapter people have reported way better results. so on to that i go! i'll try to post back as i'd love to get a real community of users here at xda instead of reading at the infested websites of armtvtech and freaktab. i feel like my pc got malware visiting those websites lol

I have Deal Extreme SKU 165489. (Jesurun NX003)
Sure looks the same as iMito MX1 (SKU 166114), (Of course I paid $5 more )
Does anybody know if it is really the same? -- e.g. Can I use the same firmwares?
Also, a couple of notes, in case it helps anyone:
I also have the Measy RC11 Air Mouse - Works fine, have never had to reset accelerometer.
ADB runs as root out of the box, so there is no need to root for most changes (such as editing build.prop)
Speaking of build.prop --- When I changed my ro.lcd.density from 160 to 140 (to try to get a more "PC" like experience), it worked, but I lost Movies&TV on Google Play, and several Apps I tried to install reported incompatible (Adobe Reader, for one). I set it back, and both worked again.
Un-powered Mini travel USB hub works fine.
2nd Serial port works as OTG, with the included adapter, so that you end up with 2 full size USB ports.
GE branded generic webcam worked fine as a USB microphone, but when I hit Search with Camera in Google Search/Google Now, it crashes Google Search. I have not installed a camera app to test more.
A RadioShack/GigaWare USB mic/audio device works fine, both as a Mic, and a Audio output device.

My stick will not clock above 1200 MHz - can somebody confirm?

Yes posted everywhere. A heat sink is needed if you want to go higher. I believe there's a similar device with an oc kernel out there that may come to the MX eventually.
I'd like to see a guide on adding a heat sink.

I had done this at first initially too, but simdeo (fellow member) suggested Imageon setting, but NOT Imageon Hardware decoder. This has massively improved speed and visual quality, but you will get intermittent lines across the interface, but not in full screen mode. Settings should be:
TCPMP:
Video Driver = ATI IMAGEON
Buffering = Microdrive (ticked)
Advanced = Tick only: D-Pad, Use System Vol, Benchmark (none od these settings affect performance, just my preference - but selecting other options may adversly affect performance)
Direct Draw = YV12 and tick 'Overlay with colorkey' only.
That's it. Best performance to date and can play torrent or own DVD rips perfectly, providing they were not encoded as high as 640x480.

** Please bear in mind for slower performance and a quality hit, set 'Video' driver to Rawframe buffer as the GUI will display no 'garbling'......
But apply first settings in post and you will definately see a vast improvement visually and in performance! Downside is the GUI is always slightly fuzzy but also very readable and useable.
Can Dopod and HTC users give any feedback if they have the same experience or wether this might be an Ameo ROM issue? Thanks.

thanks so far,
it's running now. But no chance with "ATI Imageon" mode - I only get something like a green-magenta curtain when watching .mpg files. I've to choose "GDI", "raw frame buffer" or "direct draw" to get a picture.

Strange I don't get that on my Ameo. Either you have selected the Imageon decoder instead of the Imageon, just below it, not configured the rest of the app or have something installed on your Ameo that may be causing the conflict.

Hi dieterpapa. I re-checked the instuctions you say you followed and it is 100% as my current setup....with one exception...under options/settings chose;
ATI Imageon, then tick all boxes from top to bottom except 2nd and last box.
Even if your screen becomes scrambled, don't worry, it still happens to me from time to time....just soft-reset afterwards and hopefully all should be well. If not, the problem you have is beyond my understanding/knowledge.
Let us know how you got on.
I do not know if this is te 0.72 version or not. But I stumbled on a newer version the 0.81 version. You can find it here http://amd.co.at/anti/virus/TCPMP_0_0_81.rar

Hi QAN. The 0.81 version is not an official release from the Corecodec team and as such they will not give any technical support on it, but I'm currently using that one as well and it works well, as you say.
Which begs the question:
Since we have a wonderful device with a 640 x 480 resolution, is there anything available that can play videos in this mode or do we have to live with QVGA because the ATI chipset just doesn't perform... this would be a real bummer as the CPU should be able to handle it, shouldn't it?
My words ! But apparently it's all ATI's fault ;-( What use is a large 5 inch screen if all you can do is display some fancy today plugins in QVGA ?
Note, however, that TV-out seems to be VGA, which suggests that the video card should be able to handle VGA. As far as I know, I have shown videos and PowerPoints at full VGA resolution using a projector.

[APP] ThereTV . Streaming player compatible with the LocationFree protocol

Hi,
This software is still in beta status. You have to expect problems.
If you experience any bugs or glitches please look in the Known Issues section of this post. If the problem is not there send me a message.
This app is developed by me and Sony did not contribute to the development of this software
A personal note from me: I will not use the trademark LocationFree or the brand name Sony in the App (especially in the title)
I do however want to thank the people at Sony (and sonyericsson). They were very active to find a solution so i can distribute this app. Their recent opensource engagement seems to pay out, for people like me.
News:
Today the 1.0.4 Version was released. It includes support for Japanese Basestation, different color systems (NTSC/...), experimental recording functionality...
----
The official site of this app is theretv.zero997.com. I have also added a commenting system to the site. You can now put your feature requests and bug reports directly in the comments.
The current status of the software is (as of 02/12/2012):
Compatible to all known BaseStations (LF-B1, LF-B10, LF-PK1, LF-B20, LF-V30)
Support for EU, US and JP models
Switch between MPEG4 and H.264(on supported BaseStations)
Recording of streams to MKV files (EXPERIMENTAL)
Remote control support
Registration works from within the app
Fullscreen playback
Works over Wifi/3G/4G
Selectable stream quality
Advanced performance settings (adjustable scaling filter/adjustable frame dropping)
Change the encoder settings of the BaseStation (framerate/videosize)
Change the video source
Support for the integrated tuner
Here is a video showing the App in action http://youtu.be/R1uaKrfdAoc
Upcoming features
Recording of shows directly on the device (like a DVR)
Timed recordings
Thanks to my testers: insanenyc, Tommyboy_65_98, Mister_Mxyzptlk, Jim_IT
Just on a side note, for all those people asking in other threads why no one made a LocationFree player even though Sony put the source code online:
The code released from sony is just an excerpt of an opensource library they used to stream the data everything else is closed source.
List of tested devices:
HTC Thunderbolt
HTC G2
HTC HD2
Nexus S
Glaxy Tab 10.1
HTC Inspire (overclocked to 1,5Ghz) : works
Motorola XOOM : works
Toshiba Thrive : works
Droid X : works
HP Touchpad : works
HTC Desire (not overclocked) : works although it is a bit too slow
HTC Wildfire: works but very very slow
First message 02/03/2012
Over the last month i've reverse engineered the Sony LocationFree Protocol and started the development of an Android client.
Update 02/05/2012:
The current release improves the frame dropping mechanism. This should result in better picture quality on slower devices. If the user sets a frame dropping factor the frames are only dropped at the end of a GOP. Thus the dropped frames are immediatly followed by an IFrame. This means that the frames following a dropped frame can be decoded without any errors.
The synchronization between audio/video has been improved. The audio decoder can tell the video decoder to drop frames if the delay becomes too big, this means that video frames are dropped before the audio decoder has to drop anything, which should result in better audio quality.
The remote control can now be shown/hidden.
Update 02/07/2012:
The encoded video size can now be set. The framerate of the encoder can be set.
Update 02/07/2012:
The support for LF-B10 BaseStations is now included
Update 02/08/2012:
Preliminary support for LF-V30 BaseStations. Video still has problems.
Added support for the second video source
Update 02/10/2012:
The display problems of the remote control that some testers experienced are fixed now.
The support for the LF-V30 BaseStations has been improved. But it's still H264 only
Documentation:
Once the app is installed. It's called ALF Player (Android LocationFree Player)
When started it presents you with a play icon. Don't just hit it yet, you need to first hit the Menu key and got to preferences (enter Server address/port). You can also enter a hostname. If it does not work try it by directly conecting to the wireless network of the basestation first.
Choose your remote (The remotes of all testers should be integrated already). If your remote is not listed i haven't extracted it yet.
Go back to the play button and hit the menu key again.
Got to registration.
Set the Registration on the Base Station via the web interface to enabled. You should get a registration which is 8 characters long.
Enter the password exactly as it is displayed (i guess it is always lowercase)
Press "register". It should display Registration sucessful within a second. If registration does not work look at your base station anyway, it may
have registered but did not detect it correctly.
If that is the case, press back to get to the Play button and press it.
It should take a few seconds for the stream to start (hopefully).
To activate the remote just touch the screen
To deactivate the remote touch anything except a button
If you have performance problems you have the following options:
Reduce the Picture size
Set the scaling filter to fast
Lower the stream quality
Activate frame dropping (i.e 50 percent)
Lower the encoder framerate
Set the encoded video size to low
Known issues
FIXED in 1.0.1 On some devices the player crashes before showing any video at all.
FIXED On some devices the remote control is not displayed correctly
FIXED The stream from LF-V30 BaseStations may cause trouble and not resync after dropped frames
PARTIALLY FIXED If the program can't connect it will hang until it crashes

Yes thats the one. I emailed him almost two weeks ago but havent even got an autoreply.
I also posted i a Sony Developer Forum ( http://android.developer.sony.com/c...=14&t=43&sid=3eb773496bf3933ca28b260bb07d4fbb ) which is currently in BETA state, hoping that the Administrator setting this forum up will notice my post and give me an answer. It got 974 views but not a single answer, which seems to be very strange because the whole forum has only about 40 posts!
I would really love to release this, because it was quite some work (and still is) but without the consent from sony i can't do anything but give it to a few beta testers.
mgschwan:
Great work! I am extremely interested in this and excited that I may be able to put my LF-B20 to use.
I am a newb to android coding and unfortunately do not know any Sony personnel.
Anything else I can do to help?
It also works ok on my thrive !
wow. i have been looking for something like this since i had the original G1. This sounds great. I cant wait to try it out on my Galaxy S II and my Iconia A500 tablet. I guess my first order of business would be to get my locationfree back up and running (i had network issues since changing modem/routers).
THANKS!!
Maybe try going a different route, trying thru development for their Xperia channel (they do use Android of course!)

Thank you, i sent her/them an email. Let's see if this leads to something.
OMG..can I PLEASE TEST this? I have two LF-B10 units and an LF-V30. I've wanted an Android version for so long and would be happy to help test or send some donation money your way if you need it.
Sony has completely dropped the ball on these things and I still use them and it was my #1 reason for not moving to Android from Windows Mobile back a couple years ago.
I know everybody wants to test the app, however i am already struggling to manage the number of testers i already have.
Once i worked through all the bugs i will continue to contact new testers. Please understand that i have a real job too and that i can't continously work on this.
Greetings
Michael
me want!!!! my LFP been collecting dust awaiting someone to make this...might start using it again...
can't wait for release. Thanks!
Good news. The LF-B10 is now really supported. Before, the video from LF-B10 was unusable which i did not recognize until someone gave me access to his a BaseStation.
As of 02/07/2012 this is fixed and LF-B10 BaseStations are now supported (but not in H264 mode)
Greetings
Michael
Michael
This was also tested on the Touchpad and works great other than audio/video sync. Otherwise, excellent.
Thanks
With the latest update this app is clearer and sounds better then the offical pc software made by Sony. It also looks and sounds better on my thrive and inspire then it does on my PSP.
Fantastic work Michael !
Tested the app all day yesterday with a 4g connection and it only dropped a few times and that was due to poor data service areas .This is a screenshot of the picture quality of the app on inspire it is so clear
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Thanks tonybli and insanenyc. I am still working on the support for the LF-V30 BaseStation and keep contacting sony people
Michael
Another update:
There is now support for both video inputs. Previously it could only show data from Video 1. Now you can select the video input in the preferences.
I added preliminary support for LF-V30 Basestations. The audio works but the video has some problems.
Greetings
Michael
Ok, the problem with the LF-V30 BaseStations seems to be the mpeg4 encoder.
They support h264 which i can already decode, but it's way too slow to decode it in software, so the only option is to force the BaseStation to send out an mpeg4 stream.
But in the case of the mpeg4 stream the video is distorted. I get parts of the next frame on the bottom of the current frame. This seems to be a problem with the mpeg4 encoder.
BIG NEWS:
i have cleared everything with sony and am now allowed to distribute this app. I do have to state that sony did not contribute to the development and i am not licensed to use the trade mark LocationFree or the brand name Sony in the title of the App.
And i have to say. I am perfectly fine with that .
I really have to thank sony, especially the people that were involved in this (i don't know if i am allowed to name them here, so i will not). They were very commited to help me figure out a way to distribute this app.
I will prepare a public beta release over the next few days.
Michael
lf-pk1
In the uk I think the pk1 is the standard model... bought the us version b20 but does not work well with PAL. Use the b20 to create codes for the remote function. My question is will the app work on the uk version and if yes.. will it work on the galaxy tab 10? Have the desire as well.
Hello,
I own a LF-V30, I wish to test the app on Nexus S 4G. Kindly provide me with a beta version. I will update you constant feedback.
my email address is my username in the forums at yahoo.com
Looking forward to it & thanks for making it happen

Raspberry Pi Projects

If you're anything like me, you've probably got your Raspberry Pi sitting around, looking for some uses for it! Or perhaps you're waiting on delivery, and trying to think of cool stuff to use it for!
If so, here's a place you can post any ideas for what to do with it...
Right now, I'm in the process of setting it up as a RADIUS server using FreeRadius, so that I can connect it (hopefully) to my Wireless router's USB port (for power - it can power USB 3G dongles, so I imagine a headless Rpi with no USB devices might be possible), and use WPA2-Enterprise encryption on my network.
One of the challenges in this situation is that it won't be powered off "cleanly" when the router is turned off, so I will be setting up the filesystems as read only, with a tmpfs for /var and anywhere else requiring write access during normal operation. Currently I've got it running on a clean ArchLinux install, and just need to work on setting everything up to ensure FreeRadius is started on boot, and that it actually works with my router... Then write a few scripts to generate certificates for clients, wire them up into a WebUI, and I've got a nice, usable system to manage network certificates (from what I understand, the certificates do not need stored on the radius server - if the certificate is signed by the trusted CA key, it will work). And thus there is no need for writes to the SD
What other uses have people come up with for Raspberry Pi's so far?
I set up some init.d services to turn on and off the GPIOs. I will post that stuff later. You basically use a terminal to say service LED1 start or stop and it turns the LEDs on or off. Its great for headless status.

Oooohh... Oooooooh...
That's brilliant actually! I'd love something like that, so I can indicate activity of the system via the led
I envisage an LED that lights when a request to generate a certificate is started, and then when it completes
At the moment it's lying around and just giving my other gadgets time via NTP... I'm thinking about using it as a platform to learn assembler or let it communicate with my Arduino
Not much of a hack but I stole my mates one and made a screen for the front of my case that monitors the internals
just a simple java interface using the composite out to an old Car DVD screen that i tore apart.
but this is how it looks so far -

it uses openHW monitor on the main pc to output the info to the pi then the pi runs the java app. openHW monitor cant see all my fans cause of a dodgy hack from asrock apparently... so it is half done atm gonna add an arduino into the mix too and a flow sensor and do the fan controlling ect. from the pi via the arduino depending on CPU temps ect.
when the PC is off it still gets power from the USB and it goes to a full screen clock and gets rid of all the graphs
Yes this is a bit overkill but i had to cut holes in my case to fit the new water cooling so I thought i'd go all out
case used to look a like this.

I've got a few laying around & when when Solidoodle (3D printer) arrives, I will be using one to control it
It will save me from leaving a PC on while it prints -should be fun
Here's what you need
EDIT: Forgot I have one for XBMC
I plan to use mine with XBMC powered via the usb on my TV once the next stable version of Rasbmc is released. I'll have to look into setting up MythTV or some other PVR backend as well tho I'm a bit reluctant to set up a PVR now given that the FCC just announced it will allow cable providers to encrypt all their cable signals and since everything I care about might soon be available on the Internet I'll wait to see what happens.
I'm also going to help my buddy set up a brewing controller following the instructions at BrewPi.
UPDATE:
After reading what some other member wrote I decided to give OpenELEC a shot. I like it better than Raspbmc already! Thanks to everyone who mentioned it in the thread!
I am currently trying to set mine up to work with my GoogleTV. Both as a file server and to have VNC for remote streaming (however rendering online video has been shown not to be so hot on RPI).
cool a RasPi forum here on xda! ive been messing with mine a fair bit of course one of the first things i did was get adb running, it gripes about my udev rules at startup but it still seems to work fine, but since i got my ADCpi and a bucketload of sensors and such ive been playing a little more, im still a baby when it comes to modern coding (48k basic was probably my last real language) but ive made a gamepad on a breadboard (and wrote a simple text based game to control with it, which is going to develop into a text based version of the old hero quest board game eventually) made a battery pack that runs it off AA batteries (off a cheapo set openelec ran for around 3 hours playing a variety of hd and sd content) messed with LDRs and temp sensors and yesterday i even got a cheapo ultrasonic sensor working,
im not sure exactly what ill do in the end, maybe some sort of game that changes depending on real world environment variables or maybe something else, who knows, the possibilities are pretty limitless really. for those talking about using it for xbmc, i know its all really a matter of personal preference but i found openELEC a little smoother an experience than raspbmc, its worth a look if you dont mind compiling it yourself
I've got mine set up in a headless configuration with my 1.5 tb hdd connected via USB. I got a case made by a friend who's got a membership at one of the raspi clubs in LA so he got some acrylic sheets and used the club's laser cutter to make the case for me. Pretty neat stuff.
My raspi is used for:
torrent client/seedbox (I seed a lot and didn't wanna keep my main computer with a 750W PSU wasting electricity on seeding)
irssi lurker (to lurk on #teamacid )
NAS (since I make backups via rsync to the external hdd)
LAMP server (nice for smaller projects since it can handle smaller php files just fine)
vim box for editing said smaller php files
Those are the things I've thought up of so far. I'm probably gonna buy myself a new raspi with the 512MB of ram upgrade and use it instead of my main box for a good while. My coworker's got his set up using lxde and it's very usable for minor web browsing and other simple tasks.
I've got a USB hub coming in the mail in addition to an HDMI to DVI cable since the HDMI to DVI adapter I have is too boxy and when I try to hook up an hdmi cable to it it becomes too long and I can't get the whole thing to fit correctly behind the monitor stand. Annoying.
My intentions for my Pi is to have it as a music center.
I have most of my music on my NAS now (moved it off my pc to free up space), so I will set up the Pi to access the music on the NAS and play it.
This way, I can have an always on music device that doesn't require me to turn my pc on.
Will probably use Rasbmc as it has nice smartphone remotes, supports airplay, Readydlna etc

openELEC does all that too, dont be afraid to give it a try, the compile is very easy
http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title=Building_and_Installing_OpenELEC_for_Raspberry_Pi
Putting Raspbmc on it and overclocking it to max 1 ghz
shouldn't be so difficult and should work fluently :fingers-crossed:
Mine is currently setup as a small-scale PBX running Asterisk 1.8, which integrates to Google Voice. It also runs a TFTP server (to serve up configurations to my Cisco IP phones) and runs lighttpd to serve up services to the Cisco phones (contacts/weather display during idle/etc).
"What other uses have people come up with for Raspberry Pi's so far?"
XBMC using openELEC ofcourse. But it would be awesome to see some android love.
I'm hoping to get one ordered soon. I might use it to add some functionality to my TV. I don't use it much, and it's pretty much taking up space. I was thinking of putting a remix of Fedora 17 on it (Until Android is compiled) and using XBMC and some other applications to watch TV, being that I don't have cable or satellite, just over-the-air PBS. Does anyone know of a plugin or something to let me watch internet TV on XBMC or Linux?
SqueezePlug for Raspberry Pi
Ordered my Raspberry Pi to run SqueezePlug for Slimserver and MiniDLNA for my USB connected disk full of MP3s. If it really runs Crashplan I will be one happy puppy.
Google squeezeplug
SqueezePlug is a platform for different Media-Servers:
- Logitech Media Server (f.k.a. Slimserver, SqueezeBox Server)
- MiniDLNA
- MPD
- Mediatomb
- Twonky
- Forked DAAPD
And SqueezePlug is a platform for different Media-clients or players:
- SqueezeSlave
- SqueezePlay (experimental)
- Shairport
- Omxplayer
And SqueezePlug offers some other services
- Crashplan
- Owncloud
I use my pi as a LAMP with an owncloud with ssl encrytion and dyndns.
I have one Pi running a ssh server, and a mumble server.
And the other I use with Samba to give me an NAS
Only god knows when I will put my hands on the 512 MB model.
But as soon I get one, I pretend to use it as a seedbox and NAS.

I continued a bit the Ubuntu 0.3 project from dcordes and i think i achieved some enhancements^^
But i also need some help to upload this version cause i am currently on a 16kb/s
upload line and to upload some gigs over weeks would **** me up. I can send it
via mail to someone who is interrested in and has enough bandwith to upload it
(preferable from germany or europe)
Thanks to all the people who made the HD2 so awesome,
Cotulla, XDA ppl, DFT ppl, HTClinux, dcordes, hopkinskong, bardzusny and everyone else involved !
If you want to spend me a beer, you can do this here.
What works:
- Booting via Magldr
- Landscape Display orientation
- usb host
- Haret booting (thanks to the Help of Robbie P look at page 8 of this thread for the files)
- Touchscreen,
(with a relative not absolute pointer, feels much more like using a pc than a phone...)
- Wifi with encryption
- 3G network connection, sim-pin needs to be disabled !
(about 350kb/s on my network, maybe even
higher somewhere else need testers soon !
- Audio/audio player,
(The Kernel was compiled with 48.000 kHz in the
Alsa config what results in a "too fast sound" this
problem was also mentioned in the 0.1 Debian Thread.
Workaround i found for at least listen to normal Music
Was to pitch the sound to normal via AlsaPlayer.
but beside this, the player is very stable and takes
just a small amount of cpu-time)
- Audio Outputs
(Loudspeaker, Phonespeaker or Headphones)
- The Hardware Controls
(Display Brightness, LEDs etc)
- x11VNC Server
(not the fastest one due to workarounds, but still usable)
- PwnPi & Backtrack Tools
(not all but most atm)
- dpms
(..and its also possible to switch off the backlight,
so if someone finds a cool way to start a script on
the beginning of the screensaver and another script on
the end, it would be very helpful to extend the battery life)
- The common ubuntu stuff
What doesnt work:
- Monitor Mode for bc5329
(I was able to load the arm-compiled firmware from https://code.google.com/p/bcmon/
Wireshark captured some packets but wicd was not able to see networks anymore.., more
testing needed, experimental)
- Phone Feature,
(no calls no sms/mms sPhone stills needs to be loaded or 3g network wouldnt work
Edit: PlatinumBox wrote me that he can see incoming calls)
- Bluetooth,
(kernel side looking ok, but the rest is incomplete)
- Battery Stats
(no percentage, no recharging)
- Video Player
(Without Audio it looks delicious with Xine, even in
fullscreen, but due to the Audio problem mentioned before
it has desynchronized and laggy sound)
- Hardware keys,
(Kernel side ok but the xorg.conf and xinput settings are not correct)
- Second Mouse Button
(hope someone finds a better solution than the dwell applet, or get the hardware keys working !)
Not testet:
- usb eth
- adb
- vga out
- gps
- proximity
- cam
- mic
The Project needs:
- Kernel Developers (urgent)
- People who are familiar with implementing the msm/qsd x.org driver
- People who are able to crosscompile for arm's
- Developers that have good tools or scripts to embed
- Pentesters who want to contribute some toolchains and methods
- Designers / Webdesigners
- Translators
- People who are able to fix s.th.
If you want to enter the project, write me a pm with what you
can do and maybe some links to s.th. you have done.*
Installation:
I recommend everyone to rename the first FAT Partition of the SD card to "SD" or many things wont work !
(this should be done externally and not in the phone because ubuntu sets the mount points on boot time !)
You need the Magldr on your HD2
Extract all files from the downloaded archive "linux.zip" to the directory "linux" on your sd card
Set the right "Android from SD" folder in Magldr (SD/linux), select "Boot AD from SD"
The package "connman" should be deinstalled because its consuming too much cpu and doesn't work well together
with wicd, the wifi autoconnect after boot was also affected by this.
Password for both accounts is still "ubuntu"
Be careful what you install, it has Debian and Ubuntu repos. In some cases the "Force Version" Option helps
To get the Wifi working you need the drivers from here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?6l365qz2jvc5hqh
- extract the two files (fw_bcm4329.bin & bcm4329.ko)
- move them to the root folder of your SD-Card
- boot up ubnhd2
- go to gnome-menu -> Stuff -> System -> bcd-res-upd
- take option 7 (Import ... from SD)
- takes a second
- Press the wifi-signal in the dock
- answer the dialog with ok
- after the vibration signal from the wifi script the networks can be
configured by clicking the icon in the menubar (wicd app)
Download 0.0.3.17 beta:

Welcome to the forum zo1d.
It looks great.
I can upload it in uk, and can Private Message you an address. Unless any German people come forward.
Not sure who the moderator is for this forum, try Poyensa, always very helpful.
United States of Leobuntu?
Welcome, zo1d, and thanks for your continuing this project.
I am looking forward very much to try out this on my HD2.
I believe the continued work on booting Linux desktop OS on our device is the next wave of exciting breakthroughs. This is the only way our HD2 already can successfully output to a monitor through USB to VGA/DVI cable, so I always am excited on any advancements on this front.
If shipping to US is feasible, I can upload it rapidly, it would be my pleasure to help.
Thanks again for this - the screenshot looks awesome, keep the fight going.
Open source, how don't love this?
Well some ideas for you my dear, you can try port ubuntu 12.04 with Unity 2D from lovely version for Nexus 7 and n900, if I can help tell me how

Why porting ? its already ARM compiled, but the problem is that the kernel i currently use (2.6.32.15)
is too old and misses the msm/qsd x.org driver. so without a fresh baked kernel i dont see reason to play around with 12.04..
I already got Ubuntu 11.4 working but there will never be a proper touschscreen input in landscape mode because
of a bug in the xinput version, the swap.axis option will not work.
btw. anyone using a kernel with sources/patches from here: git.tiamat-dev.com/htc-kernel-msm8x50 ?
I don't use Ubuntu on HD2, but we must have any app for manual change direction of screen.
Hmm did you cantry port n900 kernel ?

hey
i'm from germany and can it upload for you pm me!
mfg
Whats about putting it on on sourceforge to make it easier for others to continue the project.
The current wifi firmware isnt open source so it has to be copied to sd-card and would be copied
into the system via script.
Another option would be bcmon.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/
but i couldnt get wicd working properly with it maybe someone can recompile it with a older
version of gcc.

¡Great work! It is the best S.O. that HD2 can received now that Windows Phone 7 is discontinued for Microsoft. I waiting updates very exciting.
I´m from Spain, send you my email for upload files
i think desktop os is very good for using , but ubuntu hasnt updated for one year . i really look forward to ur finally release! thanks very.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda app-developers app
Small update, i will send the current version to andikicker, btw thanx for helping out dude !, on the beginning of the next week, thanx also to Robbie P for the fast and helpful answers, nice community here. I also have a new screenshot with some new enhancements.
Some icons look a bit grey in the screenshot, but on the Screen of the HD they are white !
The touchscreen is configured to act relative and not absolute, this is to avoid having the thumb over the pointer and makes the navigation in small menus much easier and faster.
New are the MediaPlayer Controls in the Panel, and the Hardware Controls in the Menubar
Hope everybody have fun with !
has someone uploaded it yet??
Great work zo1d..
this would be just the perfect system for hd2!! hope to have a link soon.. really dying to get hold of this build!!!

Request for USBNet.
Thanks a lot for this job, Zo1d.
I wanna request, if possible, the inclussion of the module that allows connecting a USB Ethernet adapter (I think its name is "USBNet"); another Ubuntu versions I found for HD2 did not have it .
I think it would be useful, since my HTC would become nearly a minibarebone.
Thanks.

I just cant test it atm (still need to build or buy the "usb-out" cable, but good idea ! i have a usb2eth dongle here, RTL8150 so maybe looking next weeks for the adapter and a powered usb-hub). If it doesn't has to be implemented into the kernel, it shouldn't be a problem to integrate it in this build but as i said i cannot test it. Upload it somewhere and/or send me the link and i do my best.

I mentioned it because I requested equivalent network features for Ubuntu on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889433&highlight=sopalajo&page=59
(read post #582 )
Maybe this page of that thread could help? Some people answer about it.
I hope I am not going off-topic.

Needs a kernel object.. found it here http://git.tiamat-dev.com/htc-kernel-msm8x50/tree/drivers/net/usb?h=android-msm-2.6.32-increciblec
I got this phone a month ago and need much more time for stuff like this, due to the fact that wifi works, usb-net
doesn't have a high priority atm, but it would be very nice if it will work someday i agree...

head unit Xy auto 8227L_demo

hello everyone, I have the following equipment
Android: YT9216BF_00007_V004_20191226
Android 801 GO
can pro 3.0 (8227L) HIWorld -04 ~ 07 Megane 2
DDR: 2G FLASH 16G
CPU: A7 1.3GHz x 4
Radio: NXP6856
MCU1: 3.1 (8227L)
so i wanted to upgrade to android 9.1 and if possible change the ui which is quite ugly and the radio has a basic and ugly aspect.
can someone help?
originally it was 9.1 but I did a system restore and it became 8.1.
before I had access to the engineering setup and now asks for a password I don't know
Best Regards
can someone help me please?
I have searched through the forums and there's a lot of information but I don't know what to do also because I'm not experiente in this area
What can I do?
Upgrade? How?
New radio app that also work on background off louncher
I installed agama louncher and dosent show maps guide in center of de main screen of louncher
In settings I can choose ui from 1 to 5, doesn't change anything loooll
I've seen that hare many variations of software fromYT9216BF_00007_V004_20191226 and after the yt9216 it changes, I've no idea if will make possible the installation or not.
I admit....I'm lost
Best regards
AT YOUR OWN RISK, you could try this package: https://yadi.sk/d/Faw1HGZrNCwMCQ
nitial firmware in which some of the sound adjustment functions do not work, even the activated hifi button does not work, the equalizer does not adjust the frequency of sound on the radio, partially compatible with the YT-9216 GU.
In firmware YT9213A_00005_V004_20191218_HIFI for GU 9216 / 9216_AHD / 9217 (2/32) all this already works.
I tried to leave it unchanged, but nevertheless, there was a slight modification. Namely:
TWRP
ROOT
VIPER
Radio_RDS from mclaught with the completion of the button background
Editor for radiomclaught
Window skin Settings
Skin window GPS Test
Returned the buttons and the slider in the "Sound Settings" section
Set the equalizer with the HiFi button.
That's all I ’ve done ... I don’t know how much more, unfortunately ))))
Things to remember:
Perhaps, after flashing, you will have the device’s firmware name changed to YT9213A
Immediately after loading, reboot the device
Sound on a volume scale of 17 or more -18Vol, has a slight "plug". Not critical for me.
After a full installation and overload, adjust the sound using standard tools (EQ, hIfI, Viper). I really liked the sound (installed audio processor CSC37033 and ULF PA2030A)
Skins from the stitched and working device YT9216C_AHD, under the spoiler.

I have version YT9213A_00009_V001_20200225, XY 3.1 (82227L), CPU A7 1.3GHZ x4.
See if I find out things like reset the device or update it.
I hope to find information to update it, the touch screen has phantom keystrokes.
Pretty sure it's the same as the headunit discussed here.

Fyi, you'll want a better microphone and solder it on

The stock bluetooth is locked down by the manufacturer. If you get a USB bluetooth dongle that is supported by the Linux kernel you will be able to connect other bluetooth devices to it.

No you won't, because of the hacked BT stack.

You can use CarWebGuru launcher or Agama Launcher for better UI.

Yes you might be able to load a separate BT device and have it function with the hacked BT stack, but you won't get the standard BT stack. Period. Yes I have reproduced on my MTCD/E.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by functioning with the "hacked BT stack". Android is based on the Linux kernel and the USB bluetooth dongle is supported directly by the kernel. The software interface for pairing devices can easily be changed with apps from Google Play Store or F-Droid. I use my bluetooth dongle to pair to my BluDriver OBDII adapter which will not pair with the built in Bluetooth.
So, are you saying that I shouldn't be able to do this or is there some other point that I am missing here? Not trying to be rude here just trying to understand. Thank you.

What I am saying is that the chinese developers wrote their own BT implementation, the standard Android rules do not apply.
If you want detailed guide on how to improve your units, this thread will get you there: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...rp-brick-recovery-custom-ui-and-more.4184999/

What the manufacturer's did to the Android software was not done at the Linux kernel level. Yes, the default bluetooth software will only pair with certain devices but that does not stop the Linux kernel from working with a USB dongle to pair with anything you want.
