What can I do to love my N7 again? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Need some ideas guys! My N7 was my baby got it on release day no defects was over the moon. Used it everyday. I've got my N4 now. And my tablet seems to be somewhat unloved. Flashing ROMs doesn't really help tried that. Maybe games and fun apps? please suggest!

Find a ROM that's really smooth and install trinity kernel.

Try the paranoid android rom, tablet mode makes it so much better

Hook up a couple PS3 Controllers to it and play Mario Kart? Connect it to you car via Bluetooth, Tape Deck. Use it as your car stereo (Fancy). Use it to read a book. Draw a picture! Play Pokemon! Theme it out to the season. Put it in your pocket all day, and pull it out and pretend to make a call on it!

Or you could sell it to me for say....10 bucks and I pay shipping lol.
Or better yet just gimee your n4 ,problem solved.

Some questions before I buy...

1. Whats it like as a wireless hotspot, my Galaxy S2 is flaky at best with lots of dropouts?
2. Can it play avi files out of the box, and if not, whats playback like in Moboplayer, any sync issues?
3. What sort of games are currently available in the PS store?
4. Hows the camera?
5. Has anyone loaded Google Music and streamed their music?
Thanks all!!

This is just personal experience, but YMMV.
1. Wireless hotspot has worked great for me. I hook my iPad up to it when I'm at my grandparent's house and there's never any loss of connection. That's even on the awful Kentucky EDGE network, too.
2. I can't really help there because I never play those types of videos.
3. The PS store? If you mean the Playstation Pocket app, if you're in America (and possibly Canada), nothing. All you gots is Crash Bandicoot. FPSE is better for PS1 emulation, anyway, if that's what you're looking for. A lot of people get their games from Gameloft.
4. The camera is pretty decent. It's better than the camera on my old Desire HD that I sold. It would be better with different software (it's the AOSP app), so download Vignette or Camera 360 if you want better pictures. On this subject, the FFC looks black and white unless you're in good light.
5. I have and it worked fine on said slow network. The speaker is really loud, too.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread

2. The Stock Media Play can not play .avi straight out the box.....BUT......all you need to do is download a better media player and it will work straight out the box.
MoboPlayer is my recomendation to you. It plays everything i have thrown at it so far.
3. The actual Playstation games are not worth buying at all imo. Just download FPSE and get all your PS games on the emulator. (leglally you need to own the games before you download them, blah blah technical blah blah).
The Xperia Play games from Gameloft and a few other devs are quite decent quality. I love Gameloft games. Some people do not though. Remember this is a phone first and foremost. Not a dedicated games console.
4. Camera is OK. 5MP is decent. Not amazing, but clear enough to have them pictures full blown on your PC monitor without seeing many pixels.
The video recording is ok too. Not 720p, but not far off, it takes a keen eye to tell the difference.

2. Yes, Moboplayer works great. You'll have no issues playing standard def content, and in some cases 720p works too.
3. Very few, Crash bandicoot, midevil, and jet moto or something along those lines, haven't used it in a while. I used fpse and play the games I want to play (Final Fantasy VII in my case) I also use it for Super nintendo, nintendo, gameboy, and N64.
4. Fine for a cell camera. Not as good as the more camera oriented cyber-shot phones, but it holds it's own. Also the shoulder buttons make it easy to tak pictures compared to touch screen shutter.
As stated this phone has the loudest speakers out of any phones I've seen. It has two very nice cell phone speakers rather than the standard one, so everything from ring tones to games are plenty loud. They also have extremely good frequency response for cell phone speakers. Music, games, videos, everything sounds "fuller" on the Play compared to other phones.
Thanks all for the great answers.
Overall I just want to make sure I can load Google Music app despite being in the UK and that there aren't audio sync issues with avi files like some phones i've tried.

Also found this on web
Reports are flooding in that Google has extended invites to its cloud-based music streaming service for residents of the UK. The buzz over Google Music has been building since it launched in the US following Google I/O.
In order to enjoy the music-streaming goodness that is Google Music Beta , you’ll need a Nexus S running Android 2.3.4. Users who fit the bill will be greeted with a self-install notification following the completion of the sign up on Google’s website.

Yeah i've installed the US version of music before in the UK by grabbing the apk from Modaco or using Market Access (through root).

If you're addicted to flashing ROM's, don't get it. I only got one because I traded my Inspire for it.
The game buttons are the selling point. I personally missed development going on...so my mom needed a phone with a SAMOLED so I got a Nexus S for her. :-D

Is yours actually working now? Mine continues to just crash to the home screen without any errors, no matter what game I try to load. I've uninstalled/reinstalled with no change.
Sent an email to the dev with logcat, waiting to hear back. It continues to work fine on my phone (LG Optimus One P500, CM9), but it's kinda hard to play anything on a 3.2" screen once you've been spoiled by the 7" gloriousness that is the Nexus.
Do you guys hook up controllers to play? I've been playing some contra with nesoid but having some difficulty getting used to the touch screen dpad
I use an iControlpad. http://www.icontrolpad.com/ It was expensive but works great and has a thin profile so it sits in my bag nice. The phone clamp is removable.
I've been using sixaxis with my nexus 7 for all sorts of emulation and gaming purposes. I'd highly recommend it, especially if you own a PlayStation 3 already! It has run well on my 7 and my nexus s since the update in the topic post. I even got to play through Chrono Trigger: Flames of Eternity on it! Good times.

Replacement for Xperia Play: Moga Controllers

Hi guys,
I recently noticed many people saying goodbye to Xperia Play n going to S3 or other devices..
Ques: I want to know if its good option to replace Xperia Play with ARCHOS GAMING TABLET?
Ans: I have tried Archos Gamepad and trust me its pathetic !! Better avoid, its waste of money.
Finally m using MOGA CONTROLLERS with my Galaxy Note 2 and its pretty cool.
Waiting for Moga Controller Pro version now.

But seriously I think there will be Xperia Play 2. Start next year as lots of contracts going to finish (like my) and big hole in market will appear. To big to miss tat opportunity, specially Sony said that selling of XP was bigger as predicted so I have hope
I'd Rather buy a real ps vita and put a cfw on it then buying this cheap thing looks like the build quality is really cheap

http://www.techdigest.tv/2012/08/ifa_2012_archos.html
I haven't been using my Xperia Play for gaming much lately but I have to say it is nice to take it out of my pocket and slide the screen up and game while waiting at the Dr's office or other excruciatingly boring event...

The Archos gaming tablet is just that, a Tablet not a phone.
I have enough phones, I`m more interested in the gaming part of it with physical controls.
I know you can pair up controllers to some other devices, but that means using bluetooth which is bound to be a drain on battery, and also while I feel comfortable using my PS3 pad on my PS3, I don`t think it`s so cool on a mobile phone.

Fair comment, however I still prefer the idea of an all in one unit as opposed to carrying a controller and a device.
Also to be fair this archos tablet gamepad actually looks good to me, and it`s price seems very fair to.

That setup just for when I'm traveling or sometimes at work break when at home I use mhl or ps3 plus a ps3 controllers are one of the best and to attach it like this is pritty cool much better than my xplay them thing have got so much potential but Sony just won't support shame really all it need is tegra 3 and Analog sticks

Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv?

Is there anyway way at all to mirror out to a tv? I want to see what's on my nexus on my TV. I have been reading for almost 3 hours doesn't look like you can. Please help. I know Samsung cords dont work because n7 doesn't support mhl at all, miracast probably won't happen to us at least any time soon, nexus q will only stream your videos and not mirror whats on ur screen, and there's some thing pi rasp idk exactly what's its called. Is there anything that works? Sorry there's probably a thread about this I scrolled down for 10 mins and didn't find one. I will update my first post with any findings to help anyone easier.
Thanks everyone!

There is if you have an AppleTV, it's called AppleTV Air Play Media Player by Zappotv and it's in the Google Play Store. It's pretty cool it uses Apple's Air Play protocol to send your Nexus screen's picture or video to your big screen TV.

Am I the only one who thinks mupen64 needs a lot of work

It leaves the faces off the super smash bro stars like link. Its slow on Mario 64 and laggy.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
You should probably email the developer and ask for a refund. How much did you pay for it again?
Try using 720p instead of 1080p.
I wasn't mad at them I know its free I just hear people say how great it is I just thought I was doing something wrong.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Some games are just fine ,others are unplayable, I'm happy with it though. Free is free.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
The faces being blank in smash brothers is specific to one of the video plugins, try another one, that fixed it for me.
And for laggyness, try reducing the render resolution, this makes a big difference, the N64 isn't going to benefit from 1080p anyways

Seems responsive enough, even on Goldeneye. But I'm displaying at 720p on my old 37" Vizio. My non-techy girlfriend is having a ball playing ZeldaoT.
