Nexus 4 screen color vs Galaxy Nexus blacks - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I'm about to face an opportunity to get a nexus 4. But seriously i find galaxy nexus blacks outstanding. Can someone help me out with this?
Also Read that nexus 4 are coming up with similar IPhone 5 glue issue when phone gets warm?
Post in guys!

Nexus 4 is ips and displays some gorgeous blacks! Realistic color as well. Solid performance and great contrast. Best Ips I've ever used. (iPhone 5 is arguably better)
You do see some idiots complaining about back light bleed (full brightness dark room) which is a limitation of the technology. Some are better than others. Mine has one little bit of bleed at the top. That's what auto brightness is for....
Galaxy Nexus doesn't produce black but instead turns off the pixel thus making it pitch black. Which is cool, but it's like comparing apples and oranges. Besides that colors are over saturated (people love this for some reason) and there is burn in and ghosting.
Regards, someone who is tired of this debate.
Edit: just note, you're buying an IPS panel, know this before you buy it. If you want AMOLED buy Samsung.

Probably this will be my first ips experience my friend. And what about the overheating issue? I read across the forum and there was a thread of yellow tint due to some glue phenomena.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app

also amoled screen suffer from black ink blots...

No the blacks are not as black as the Galaxy Nexus and it will take some getting used to but most likely, however, that is the absolute only thing you will miss and it's well worth the tradeoff!

Coming from a GS3 to the N4, I love the N4 screen more. I never realized how over saturated the GS3 screen was until I had my N4 next to it. The N4 has a gorgeous screen, and like others have said, the colors are "natural" and more "true to life". :highfive:

Haven't noticed yellow tint.
This phone does run warm. But what phone doesn't? It's more of an enthusiasts phone than a consumer phone. So it's going to want some love and maintenance to run perfectly...
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

My phone also ran pretty warm on stock but after using Franco's r14 kernel it's been cool as a cucumber. Plus he did a few tweaks to the color which makes the whites look whiter and less yellow or blue tint if you have any

I've loved amoled displays ever since I got my galaxy s and I've been using only amoled since then (galaxy s, s2, gnex), so I was apprehensive about whether I'd like the nexus 4 screen or not.
But after just a day of use, I can safely say I'll probably stick to LCD from now on. I never imagined I'd like the screen this much. Its one of the best things about the phone.
The whites are beautiful, the blacks are very good for an LCD and look just as black as my gnex when seen in daylight/well lit environments. In dark situations the blacks aren't as good but it doesn't matter because the display still looks gorgeous. And BTW I had trinity kernel as well. Trust me, no calibration could ever get the gnex to have whites this gorgeous.
I never had an issue with pentile before but once you use a non pentile display like this, the difference is very apparent. Its so much sharper and crisper from any distance.
And the colors just look nicer as well. Looking at my dads gnex screen after this actually makes me wonder how I ever liked colors that way.
Another reason the nexus 4 screen looks so beautiful is because gradients are actually smooth. After years of looking at amoled gradients, this is a huge and welcome change.
And its great having the screen so much closer to the surface of the glass.
The only downside to the nexus 4 screen are the viewing angles. Definitely not as nice as the gnex. I can't lie down and look at my screen diagonally anymore :/ The one x doesn't have this issue so I guess its LGs fault and not an LCD related problem.
All in all, you won't regret it. No matter how much you've loved amoled. You'll finally understand what all the hype around LCDs is about. And they were right.

When i put my Gnex next to my N4 the blacks on the N4 look more like dark gray... But im cool with it, ill take ips over pentile no question!

My Galaxy s2 never burned in, and never ghosted. Colors looked wonderful...except for white XD
Colors POP against a black area. Nexus Revamped Live wallpaper, with a solid black back ground? Beautiful

Please use the search, there has been an endless discussion about IPS LCD vs AMOLED. Get the display that you like.

Nexus 4 display sucks, I would rated it from last to first, Nexus 4 <--S3 <-- iPhone 5 <-- One X.
The nexus 4 is my first phone with many screen issue and I used to have s2,s3, iphone 4, and htc one x without any issue
except the amoled black spot on black screen you can't see unless it really dark. Better then yellow spot on a white screen.
Problem with the nexus is the gamma issue causing color to be a bit wash out, I know it's a software issue, but it's still a Nexus 4 issue.
Next, the yellow screen tint and yellow spot. I know only some have it, My personal nexus 4 have a nice white screen, but a ugly yellow spot.
My family also have two nexus 4, one have a uneven yellow tint on 2/3 of screen, the other one have an even yellowish tint, not as bad as the other one.
The nexus screen quality is not good at all, you can see vertical lines effect on light color, I compare it to a ipad 3 I have and the ipad 3 is smooth with the same picture.
The viewing angle are not as good as the other phone I mention.
The last problem with the nexus 4 screen is the flickering, It happen to 2 of the 3 nexus we have so far.
First time I ever seen a screen flicker is on a nexus 4. It flicker one time really bad, you can see all sort of line color going vertical on the screen. Shutting the phone off and back on still does the same thing, I had to leave it like that for a minute or so and it start to slowing stop. I like the phone overall, but not the Lcd.

What sort of flickering?

since the galaxy doesn't require a backlight the colours are vibrant, the display on the lg is good but the black is not black due to the backlight so its a bright black not just powered off black.the ink blotches were odd but not a issue with display. a higher dpi ans resolution and I would choose amoled/+

Some picture comparing the nexus to the ipad (supposedly ~100 NTSC ColorGamut)

I concur to what has been said by most. The screen is one of the most beautiful screen on a phone. The GNex/pentile display is too bluish and I could not stand it. The S3 however, is looking pretty good, but doesn't hold water in my opinion. It is also comparable to the iPhone retina, but 4.7" > 4" any day.
Food for thought, you are less likely to carry several phones and compare screens in great detail every day. Get one with the display you like and stick with it. I had GNex for a year and every bloody day I'm thinking of getting a One X, One S or Lumia 920, that is until N4
All in all, it bogs down to your preferences. I for one doesn't mind a faux black on a phone, try using it for a few days and you won't really care. On the other hand, I expect a true black on my HDTV since that's where I consume HD content..

Note 2 screen Black crush/clipping Poll

The black crush issues was big problem with on the original note to the point of making videos with a lot of dark scenes unwatchable. Reading through the various threads the topic of black crush/clipping seems comes up when issues of screen quality are discussed. It would be helpful if those with a note 2 could take part in the poll. This will help everyone who is interested to know how wide spread or if the issue still exist in the new Note 2
Below is an attachment of a gamma test pattern, you have to download and view the image within note 2 gallery, preferably in a dark room, and at maximum brightness. if you can see the left bar boxes 10 to 1 with little to no gradual gradient then most likely your note 2 has the black crush issue

From your pics the difference between note 2 and note 1 is like night and day, whites on the note 2 sure do look better
On two S3s i've tested 7 is black already. So the note 2 is an improvement.

this f..ng black crush issue was the reason i got rid of my original note (tried 2, and both suffered from it badly) and i am happy to report that it is completely gone on the note II

The note1 screen degrades/burns in rapidly, whites turn slightly yellowish over a period of a few months. Notice the notification bar area on the note1 and how white that area is. Thats how all the whites used to look before the amoled degradation.

I just tested my s3 with that clipping jpg test. Indeed in the gallery app the numbers 1 to 7 were veritably "crushed" to black but as I exited the gallery, the screen brightened for an instant and all the numbers were visible. I checked out the jpg in the stock browser and dolphin and there were no black crushing issues, all the numbers and corresponding black levels were discernible.
After watching hd trailers like the dark night on my S3, I had a gut feeling there couldn't be this severe of a black crushing issue, the videos look awesome. Looks like it might be a issue with gallery app and not the screen imo.

Before a needless debate about LCD over pentile, note 1 pentile over pentile in note 2, PPI, sub pixels, resolutions, aspect ratios.
Let's say if your unhappy in the first 6 months you should sell up and move on. If its that bad get a warranty replacement first.
Now, we can focus on posting and commenting pictures of gamma tests. Do far the note 2 hadn't missed a beat - some people find that irritating.

so far the majority of people who have taken part in the poll do not suffer from black crush issue in their note 2...if the poll is anything to go by, the note screen has truly made great improvement in that department...watching movies on the large 5.5inch screen should be a treat

I think you are misinterpreting something here... as I was the only one to post a gamma pic in this thread, I was trying to explain why the note1 in my pic has such a yellow tint in the whites compared to the new note, which so far has pretty nice whites.
There is no debate needed, amoleds do not last forever and even the note2 screen will degrade over time and use, like it or not.
As a matter of note, I hadn't noticed the extent of my note1 screen degradation until I took that comparison pic. Its a gradual change creeps up on you. Most people would not even notice the difference over time. What is disturbing however, is the fact that my note1 is only 7 months old.
No one said they were unhappy or irritated with the new note, so far it has not missed a beat, as you say. I am very happy with mine. As a new owner of the note2, I just hope the new screen technology is more resilient to change over time.
Now, with that said, I would like to see more comparison gamma pics with the note 2 vs note 1 posted.

ah good, i was really wondering about this. Thanks everyone for posting your results. This is the main thing I was concerned about purchasing the next Note. The first one I had, I took it back because of this and several other issues.

How did you fix the black crush on the s3, the only solution i have come across is using Filter Your Screen and even with that its not so much a fix but just masking the situation. the app even has warning that it could damage amoled screens

Of course an external app ain't fix it, it doesn't have the control over such things.I changed the black gamma response curve in the mDNIe profiles of the device. In other words, flash my kernel for the fix (On the S3, Note 2 doesn't need it).
so is no one else seeing black crushing while watching DVDrips? I have not seen black crushing on my 1080p videos i have, but on dvdrip and most BRrips i see the big black boxes in dark scenes. Even with brightness at max, it does make some movies quite bad to watch at times. overall, still a great improvement from the Note1

Are you sure you're not talking about compression artifacts in the movie itself? Badly compressed videos can have the same effect as black crush on large blocks of monotone coloured areas of the screen.

I dont see any issues with the screen from the pics. Sometimes I noticed some wallpapers make the screen look washed out ( personal observation)
You should try using same background and then compare the home screens to see the difference. But my nexus 4 looks much better than SGS3 my friend has
It's washed out compared to the Galaxy S3 because the Galaxy S3's screen is better. Same when I compare my two phones. The Nexus 4 has been a real disappointment.
Definitely noticed it compared to my HTC one x. Ain't gonna go back though, the extra RAM and lack of bloaty skins makes the nexus 4 fly. I'll live with the washed out home screens, in video playback its not too bad.

No... it's just AMOLED
IPS has far more advantages than AMOLED, including brighter screen, non pentile, no screen burn in, no blue hue, more natural colors.
SAMOLED has more vibrant colors, but as stated multiple times it's oversaturated, and the whites are not white; they're blue(ish)

The N4 delivers a much crisper image with brighter and truer colors. Yeah, AMOLEDs look nice. But they aren't natural. It's especially visible after using a phone with an IPS or LCD screen for a while. Put your Galaxy devices in a drawer. Use only your N4 and devices with non-AMOLED screens for a week. Take the Galaxy devices out of the drawer and then compare the screens. I'm sure you'll be shocked.

I went from an iPhone 4 to a GS2 and I had no idea it was over saturated. In fact I think the screens look brighter, the colours look nicer and I love how you cannot tell the blacks on a screen to the Bezel unless you look really closely. I love how the blacks aren't grey and I'm the kinda person who likes to have a black background and nothing else, also lots of video content and apps have black backgrounds, so it is something I notice. I cannot go back to the greys that LCd screens call black.
Tbh if I look at an OLED screen on its own the colours look perfectly fine and I personally prefer them being strong. The LCDs do tend to look more washed out to me and just not as clear and I have all the bleedthrough from the back lighting. I mean I saw an iPhone 5 the other day and it had so much bleedthrough it was unreal.
Personally I think OLEDs are better and I've never had an issue with brightness, I cannot see pixels on my GS2 screen because I don't hold it 2 inches from my eyes or under a magnifying glass. The viewing angles are much better which is important for a mobile, the black levels are much better and the colours are stronger. I think people forget too that brightness isn't as important in the sun as how much the screen reflects, viewing angles but also stronger colours are easier to see under the sun light. The Galaxy series at least has some of the best screens in terms of the little amount of light it reflects off the screen, I've seen some phones and it is like a mirror :\
Wow the galaxy looks so dirty while the n4 looks crisp

You cannot say AMOLED screens have "good blacks" as they do not even produce the black color!
And whites: AMOLED whites suck, but with an LCD, the whites LCDs produce look sooo much better than any AMOLED. and whites are much more common, just open a random website and chances are the background is white (example: google.com)
Sent from my DROID2 using xda premium
ya definately the screen on the n4 is way better than an amoled they are just easier on the eyes for me. try looking at any shade of white/gray and youll see why
N4 screen is good but needs some gamma adjustment. Just look at the clouds on N4 and SIII, It looks like there is information missing form the clouds on N4.
Both screens looks unrealistic compared to a good adjusted lcd screen.

Returning my Z1

Well I'm going to be returning my Z1 due to the very poor screen.
Everything on the screen isn't sharp enough (funny that as it's a Sharp panel) the colours are very poor. The white are more cream like.
Software is buggy if you turn off optimised backlight.
Ear piece speaker isn't loud enough, probably due to the waterproofing.
Camera is nothing to rave about either.
Yes some of these issues will be sorted out with updates but they might not and I'm not taking the risk on a £550+ device.
It's a shame because I really wanted to like the device but I'll be happy to go back to my Nexus 4!

To be honest, its just that I used to have an S3 and its has a lot of colour saturation and vibrance due to Super AMOLED screen.. I will compare to display models on Wednesday and see how.. I got 28 days to exchange anyways!

Well, the S3 displays whites with a distracting blue tint. Returning that unit? Lol.
Just give it a chance for it to settle. Try going to *#*#7378423#*#* and run a display test. Check if it's yellowish there. Unless my Xperia Ion has a yellow screen (highly doubt), I compared a C6903 and my ion screen yesterday via the service menu and whites looked white on both screens.

Hey I did that test and its yellowish. Is that a build defect?
Same issue with the Xperia T when I compare it with the Xperia play
Z1 screen quality is not that good due to it probably is (at least certain batch) TN/VA panel.
Z1 is not same panel use as Z Ultra which is IPS.

to me the Amoled screen makes everything look unnatural - like everything looks animated instead of real, it might be pretty to look at but it is just so lacking in detail and texture, I tried watching a movie on anS4 and it looked dark saturated and animated - honestly not really what anyone want
Ever wonder why they don't use Amoled screen on TV's ? if you answer that honestly then you will understand why the Z1 screen is preferable

It is difficult to fabricate and costly to fabricate large panel using AMOLED. the life of AMOLED is not high to be used in TV..Content mad is for sRGB gamut not for complete visual wavelength... gaming in AMOLED is awesome... other than that Z1 is awesome..
Tested the camera vs my HTC one. Z1 is pretty good Imo.
Screen has poor viewing angles, but who's really going to look at the phone at these angles really....
And the yellowish screen, not as white as my HTC one, but it's not yellow as others are saying. I remember the s3 and note 2 were yellow so idk

I don't think the z1 screen is the best out there but not bad. and much better than the old z software is fine here. fast and snappy camera decent. Not better than my 1020 but better than a lot of phones out there.

I was comparing screen colours to my nexus 4 and they were well off.
There is no way I'm accepting a device that is worse then the model it's replacing.
Let's see what the N5 brings.

Wise choice if you are unhappy with a device then no point keeping it and you really cannot go wrong with the Nexus range anyway.

Question to those of you who upgraded to the G2 from AMOLED screens

I had many phones with LCD screens (HTC Diamond, HTC HD, HTC HD2, I also played a lot with my father's iPhone 4). I remember when I got the Galaxy S2, the first thing I've noticed and appreciated was the inky blacks and insane contrast. Everything simply looked 3D, and I've promised myself I'm never going back to LCD.
Now unfortunately the G2 seems to be the best phone for my needs, but it uses the old LCD technology. I'm not sure how I'm going to feel going back from the S2's inky blacks, to grey blacks, this kinds of ruin the experience...
What do you guys who upgraded to the G2 from AMOLED screens think about this issue ? do you miss your AMOLEDs when dark content is shown on the screen ? do things look like a "grey bath" ?

I felt the same way but I'm actually quite happy with the display on the G2. Viewing angles aren't as good as AMOLED and at night the blacks are not as black, but overall the blacks are pretty good. I have a hard time telling where the black nav bar ends and the black bezel begins. At least during the day time.

coming from a S3...I love the G2 screen just because the fact the ppi is so much higher...and things look much sharper and the colors are more realistic..couldnt care much for the darker black screen...i dont even notice it.
Take a look how LG tried to hide the fact that blacks suffer on this LCD screen. Every image that they preinstall on this device is full of bright color. The settings background is white and not black... they tried to let you see as little black as possible with this device.
On a different note, most of what I do with the device is browse the internet, and the web mostly use white backgrounds, which kind of kill the battery with AMOLED screens...

You came from an S3... if you came from an S4, you wouldn't have seen an increase in sharpness/resolution...
Regarding colors looking more realistic, our eye is very adaptive, so without side by side comparison, it will be hard for us to say what is realistic and what's not. What we can always judge well (even without side by side comparison) is contrast and black levels, exactly the areas where the G2 suffers...

I guess color preferences are pretty subjective but for me personally the GS4 looked hideously artificial all of the half dozen times I went to the store trying to convince myself to buy one. That and some of the display models I looked at had severe burn in. To me the G2 screen looks great, with one exception: you can see nothing in landscape mode when wearing polarized sunglasses, which kinda sucks in a car dock.
My experience with going from AMOLED to IPS LCD would be equal to going from a cartoon to real life. Clearer, natural, beautiful, amazing. No regrets! This is how a screen should be
Couldn't tell
I didn't notice the difference from my Galaxy Nexus (in terms of color reproduction) until I sat them side by side. But just looking at the G2's display by itself, its amazing. I had a similar conversation with a buddy of mine about the pentile screen on the Note 3 - compared to itself, it looks great. But if you compared it to something non-pentile like the G2 or the HTC One...you might have a different reaction.
So if you have no other phone to compare it against, I think you would truly love the LCD panel that LG uses on this device.
The G2 looks a lot clearer than the GNex's AMOLED, IMO. I even had someone mention how clear it looked last weekend, after I had shot some HD video with it.
The issue I've noticed is that the brightness can jump around, even with automatic brightness turned off. More than once, I've had the brightness at about 66%, then I've seen the brightness flicker a little bit and then drop by maybe 10%. I don't know if this happens on all G2s, or if it is a flaw in mine. It doesn't happen all the time, thankfully, but it's mildly annoying when it does happen.
I came from an S4. AMOLED looks really artificial and fake in comparison
When I got this phone, I still had my S4 before I sold it. I set the G2 up the same as my S4 with the same home screen icons and layout, same wallpaper, same widgets, etc.
When I put the phones side by side, I actually started laughing. On lighter screens, especially white, the S4 was super dingy and green looking. It was almost embarrassing.
Granted the blacks were better, it's not drastic enough to give up the much brighter whites and color accuracy in general from this phone. Now I know the G2 screen isn't super accurate with color reproduction, but it looks a lot better than the S4 that I had.
Ultimately, I don't miss amoled at all.

I played with both side by side for an extensive period of time an saw th difference between the S4 & G2's screens. The S4 still has the pentile feel to it even though it's not as bad as the s3 but you can't deny it's still there just less noticeable.
When I saw the G2, I was pleasantly surprised just how gorgeous the screen looked. Everything popped just right. It reminded me of the HTC One I just bought a few days prior. In fact I took my then HTC One out and sat it side by side with the G2, S4, 5s & S4 Active.
The question then became which phone is better than the HTC One in display or at at least close
The only phone that could compare on the list is the G2 in some case I found its screen a little better in how it shows images and web pages. Afterwards I went back & compared it to the note 3 extensively & found out the G2's screen is king.
You have to compare for yourself to see what I mean. Spend some time in the store & put the phones through their paces. There's a reason why we love our G2 phones so much
I came from an XT910 with AMOLED screen, but I'm super happy with the G2's screen. It looks amazing, and there is no bad feeling to the imaging at all.
yuck amoled. idk how that's even popular. as noted above the gs4 compared to this, or any LCD screen is a joke.. it just looks.. dirty. LCD is much more superior than amoled, imo.

You might. Just a little bit. The pixel arrangement is tighter than amoled's pentile style. I only notice a tiny bit, if i'm looking for it. Similar ppis though.

I agree. I've spent a little time with my friend's one. You'd be hard pressed to choose a winner, but colors look a bit better and richer on the g2. It's also brighter. In fact the screen almost works better than the flash on a white screen lol.

I kinda chuckled a bit when I read the OP.
Amoled is an inferior technology, for real. The colours are not realistic, and the screen is HIGHLY susceptible to burn-in. Due to that, it is an inherent short life in "screen" terms. Colour reproduction also changes over time which is another disaster. Couple that with the pentile displays that Samsung uses to save money and ugggh.
The Amoled screen was the ONLY REASON!! I didn't get a Note!
Who wants a device where the screen can't be used in a certain way? That is called compromising and for $800 that isn't good enough for me.
The biggest thing I've seen is the blacks aren't as black as on my Galaxy Nexus.

What? I came from the GNex with an AMOLED display and this G2 LCD screen blows it out of the water.
The AMOLED screens turn the voltages very low or almost off for the black color. So you get that super black screen. I have these crappy Note 1 & 2 from which I'm typing now, trust me I hate them more that i hate Justin Bieber XD
No offense guys..

The g2 screen is gorgeous compared to my s4. Colors and icons is more realistic looking. But won't have the punch like amoled. It has the whitest screen. But with the note 3 the amoled is much improved. Whites are whiter and screen is brighter but still not as bright as the g2. The S4 screen is awful compared to the other 2 even at full brightness. Although I have to admit I had the s4 for several months now and I really didn't notice until now that I have the other phones. So it may just be a matter of getting used to it.

Display quality compared to previous AMOLED devices?

I have a note 2 since it's release and a gs2 before that, and I'm completely sick of AMOLED because both look terrible due to the issues below.
So, my questions: resolution and PPI aside, of course,

Does it have ink spots(easily visible on pitch black backgrounds and in dark rooms)?
Does the colors, especially whites, look grainy?
Thanks for answering!
I should mention I've seen two of my friends Note 3 devices and both have the greenish yellow tint.
I'll have a hard time continuing to buy amoled devices if samsung keeps shipping these defective displays.
Good thread. I am also curious of screen burn in... as in some reviews, they mentioned it and note 2 had some issues with it.
My N9005 screen is not yellow/greenish. Don't have any spots of any kind either.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Mine has a slight tint but isn't noticeable. Also, the screen is literally pitch black in the dark with no spots.
With my S II i was able to see when the screen was on even tho it showed pitch black. I honestly can't see it with my Note 3. I can't believe they managed to produce a true black color.
Sent from my Note 3
The yellow tint reminds me of my Apple iphone days. So the culprit was indeed Samsung making the panels for apple? HAHAH
To get a less yellow screen on the iphone 4s was like a lottery.
My GS4 also was yellow, but when I tilted the screen a little it went blue.
My screen has a bit of the yellow tint, but also turns bluish when I tilt it. No spots whatsoever though. My last 3 samsung phones all had mura & spots, but this one is perfect.

The White hue is never going to be pure white. I suggest you do a bit of research on how displays actually work. That said, it's the same white as on my IPS-LED laptop.
My SGS3 had horrible black spots, my Note 3 does not have a single one.
If I have to choose between AmoLED with not-eyebreaking white, and LCD with black that more resembles a light grey, I'll settle for the amoLED without a second doubt.
I can't stand white on a display to begin with. I'm photosensitive and prone to migraines. it's too bloody painful to look at anything white and lit. Of course every single idiotic designer insists on using as much white as possible, because 'that's the trend!'. No, that's Apple copying. But then you do own an iMac, so nobody accused you of being original... (I'm not talking to anyone in particular.)
The biggest advantage to AmoLED over LCD is that black is BLACK. And anything black doesn't use power.
That said, setting it to Movie mode gives off much more natural colours.

No it doens't look like fresh urine, thrut be told.. note 2 screen sucked .. low light , bad whites ( no whites..) etc .. note 1 screen was great .. but was a battery hog..
and when the screen is displaying black.. it's just like the phone is turn of ..the first TRUE black I have encountered, yes they say that with every amoled they release... but in practice we know that is not the true .
Samsung just put together the best of both screens (note 1 and note 2) and then some more !

So, what is the fraction of units that does not have any issue with the display whatsoever? My wife's Note 2 has perfect display, but my Note 3 has different brightness/contrast/saturation on top of the screen compared to the bottom... On monday I am to go and replace the display on warranty but I am affraid that the new screen will not be any better or even worse... In my case there is no color tint or lines or anything else just that difference in brightness... Is it worth it?
My Note 3 had no display problems. Same quality as my S4 which is great

I have also had galaxy note 2 and I'm now on the galaxy note 3. I had to order a replacement of one of my galaxy note threes because I did find the yellow tent with blue green as you describe. But other phone is quite good in color. It has very good whites. However it does suffer with a bit of a pinkish or darker discoloration in the lower third of the screen mostly in the right corner. I am awaiting a replacement from my carrier. Hopefully it will be better than this one. However I have kind of gotten used to it and otherwise the display is brilliant.

How does the same issue I had with one of my note 3 phones. It was similar to your galaxy S4. I think that there are probably more than one factory where the screens are manufactured. There must be one batch of screams coming from a factory that have a warmer more yellow tint that shifts strongly to Bluegreen when angling the screen. The other batch of screens must be more in the wider redder with only minimal tinting when shifting the screen on an angle.
