ROM 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE still has a huge pink spot in attached pictures. Looks like it's definitely a hardware problem with probably the low-quality plastic lens. Possible chromatic aberration?
yup, my phone has it too. I took some pics of a blank sheet of paper and there was a nice pink hue in the middle of the paper!
Wasn't there a software fix for this?

The released hotfix is only for 1.66 roms and LOWER, and assuming this 2.10.x rom has all previous hotfixes rolled into it.

For the record, I have the same ROM as you and I don't seem to have the spot.

I have taken probably 100 + photos and have yet to notice any spots.
In fact, so far, I am very pleased with the quality of the photos the HD2 produces. By far the best camera on any phone I have owned, and thats been quite a few...

Just tried it, and no spots. Someone mentioned the lens cover, possibly a lens to lens problem. Others are not effected by this problem as well.

I'm having a problem with green tint in my pictures. And sometimes the flash makes the pictures too bright. There should be a way to disable one of the lights in the flash. You don't need it all the time in my opinon. I called tmobile about the green tint in my pics. They are sending me a new phone. Hopefully it works out ok. Has anyone else experienced this??
I'm not having this issue. I would have to say it's probably a manufacturer's error.

BTW, this phone's video and picture capabilities are actually better than my $200 Cannon, LOL!

I still have it after manually patching the phone. I think it has to do with shooting outdoors in sunlight though.
I've checked my history of FUZE/Touch Pro pictures and they have a pink spot too (visible in the histogram in Picasa)!
It looks like it's common HTC camera problem that I can date back possibly to the TyTN II which explains why it still shows up in TMOUS HD2 after all the European HD2 hubbub. So much for Quietly Brilliant.
That's unfortunate for ANYONE who has experienced this "apparently" still existing issue with the camera. I have had NO such trouble, whatsoever. All of my photos have been insanely crisp, and absolutely gorgeous.
Then again, I did perform a registry tweak to increase the maximum resolution that the camera is capable of outputting.

So that's why I see it in my Touch Pro too! So it must be camera optics.
It can't be sensor/uv burn-in because TMOUS HD2 is brand new less a week old spending most of its time in indoors and in pouches. It's very apparent on histograms.
If it's a white balance issue, it is contradicted by the fact it's a circle and not an overall image issue. It's also NOT present on DSLRs and other normal cameras that I've used.
Following the update, any picture I take with my camera is blurry. It doesn't matter if I keep the camera still and/or the subject is still.
Anyone else seeing this and/or have any ideas as to how to fix it?
Someone suggested holding down the shutter button for a sec before releasing it. I've tried it and notice when the sound is on it'll actually make a noise when it's focused. I hth you!!!

Yeah, my pictures were turning out well prior to the update. It could be coincidence and something else changed, but the update is the most likely culprit.
I've got the same issue. My picture quality has gone to crap in the JI6 update vs. the JFD update. They always come out blurry no matter how still I hold the camera.
On this forum others have fixed errors following the update by performing a factory reset...has anyone who had this blurry camera issue tried this? If so, did the blurriness go away?
Have you tried cleaning the plastic/glass element in front of the camera? Sometimes I get a finger smudge on it and my pictures will turn out blurry.

I second this heh you'd be surprised at how important this is. But I haven't noticed any problem, works fine for me.
I have tried cleaning it...but perhaps I need to use the right cleaning product. Any recommendations?

I have noticed that after the update, specifically the need to get a lock with the focusing square prior to taking the shot, is critical. Just tapping the shutter button to get a shot gives me blurry pictures most of the time. Not sure if its really the update or not or just me.
I have found if I push the shutter button down and hold it down until the focusing square goes green indicating a focus lock, then I can hold the camera still and compose my shot, as long as I do not change the distance between the subject and the camera, I can trigger the shutter by pulling my finger off the screen shutter button without bumping the device, I get much sharper pictures. Camera shake equals blurry. In this new high def world we demand sharpness more then ever.
In addition with all cameras, the sensor (or film in the old days) needs a certain fixed amount of light for a proper exposure. With automatic cameras the brighter the ambient light on the subject the faster the shutter speed will be. Fast shutter equals sharper focused hand held shots. If its darker the camera compensates by opening the shutter slower (longer) and raising the ISO to get the same fixed amount of light into the camera. In low light if you move even slightly the shot will be blurry and grainy from the high ISO and slower shutter.
Sorry if this is all well known "camera 101", just trying to help. This really is an exceptional point and shoot camera and over the top for a phone. I hope the update didn't jack up your cameras and a reset and/or the above tips does the trick for you guys.

After trying many different things I finally talked with TMo support and they sent me a replacement phone.
My old phone had a few additional problems that this one doesn't have, so I'm glad I did the replacement. However, the new phone also doesn't seem to be capable of taking good photos.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I used to be able to take great pictures with this phone without trying, and now I go out of my way to setup the perfect situation and the pictures are still blurry.
The only thing I can think of that changed on the phone is the OTA update.
Furthermore, taking video works just fine. So it is something about the Camera software or something I'm somehow doing differently than I did during my first few months of ownership.
Hi, I don't know how various settings affect the results. However, I wish to be able to take excellent photos and videos under different conditions. Are there any good apps that take better photos and videos than the stock Camera App? I am using GB. Thanks

In photo 1, I do not know why the ceiling lights are like that.
I changed various settings but there was no improvement.
In some cases, the overall color of the room changed.
In photo 2, the room appeared to be dark but it was not.
I changed the flash to auto, on along with changing other
settings. The room still appeared to be dark.
In photo 3, again, that place was not dark. Setting the flash
to auto or on did not help.
In photo 4, everything including the room appears to be somewhat yellowish.
In reality, the wall is white and the pillows are gray.

Thanks for the suggestion but I am not a professional. I don't know how various settings affect the results. By the time I have tested out various settings, things that I want to capture will have been gone.
ah now things are getting clearer . your pictures looks a little bit like something is wrong with the 'white balance' of your camera. so you can try different settings for the white balance, the default should be automatic (AWB). I'm not an photoexpert too, but maybe some one else can guide you further with this.
Thanks for pointing this out. I also tried white balance but it did not help. Perhaps I did not do it properly. Hoping somebody could provide some tips. Are the strong glares from the ceiling lights in photo 1 also caused by the white balance?

This effect on the ceiling lights is due to a hardware fault, there are no settings within the phone that can correct this. You can try, like me, and use photoshop. For me, its no problem because I have used photoshop for many years, but others are not so fortunate. This fault is well documented. Samsung know about it, yet have done nothing to correct it. The only way is to send the unit back to the retailer for a new unit. I tried three or four brand new units and they were all the same.
In general. The camera has limitations because of its size and proximity to other circuitry that may introduce noise etc. Its 8megapix with a tiny lens, so as is, I feel it does a pretty good job (apart from that pink dot that is). To get better pictures, consider post processing with photoshop. If that's not an option, and quite frankly I would not recommend purchasing it just for pics from any camphone, try the GIMP, its free and does an awful lot to enhance your pics. You can find the GIMP here www.gimp.org it will run on linux, windows and the Mac

Good question. I know the S2 does, and we all know about the Galaxy Note. I can see evidence of the problem on a slashgear.com presentation, and its that presentation that stopped me from going over to the S3. However, there are plenty of youtube tests where it seems pretty good. The S3 has only just been released, so it might be a while more before any issues become apparent. I think its one where you try before you buy. Personally, I'm not touching either the S3 or the 'Note until I have proof that the issue has been resolved.

In photo 1 was the lens clean? Might sound obvious but even the slightest bit of grease or diet can affect how sources of light spear in photos. Typically in any photo I take where I light bulb or something similar is in the picture if the lens was not completely clean I got a similar effect as in photo 1

Well, there must be a lot of pink dirt around. My crappy clam phone must have pink dirt repellent, because no matter how greasy the lens gets, pics from it don't have a pink dot. Neither does my DSLR when the uv filter gets filthy, or my specs come to that. Sorry, but the dirt bit on this issue is a red herring. The camera has a defect.
I use UCam. A lot of "pro" settings and also some cool. And... you can disable shutter sound.

i think you should send the device to service/repair, because i think this is an hardware issue. i saw a lot of pictures taken by the note (not only my own device) and they are al just fine with the standard settings.
I just noticed that there is a protective film covering the back camera. Probably Samsung put it there to protect the lens. Do you think this is the cause to all of my problems? Am I supposed to remove it? For the first few days after purchase (3 weeks ago), the Note took excellent photos. As for last week and the week before that, it depends. The thin protective film has been there right from the beginning. Let's say the protective film covering the lens caused the pink dot, how do you explain why the cafe in photos 2 and 3 appeared to be dark whereas in reality, it was not. Also, photo 4 looks yellowish overall.

Protective film would most likely create the effect on pic one. (which would be visible when a direct light source or reflection is in the frame.)
Pic two - could be a metering issue. Try changing the (cog wheel =>) metering setting and / or exposure level.
Yellowish photo is the result of incorrect "white balance". Change the white balance setting to incandescent.
I'm using both the stock ICS camera and camera zoom fx. On my previous phone the fx produced much better photos than the stock one. On my G - Note I don't see much difference.

Yes you are supposed to remove it. It does say so in the instructions that came with your phone. Check the camera after you have done this.

I just bought my Xperia Z2 yesterday and i went to the batch numbers topic and checked for Issues reported by people there. Fortunatelly i dinot have any issues but today i noticed the front camera quality was very poor. There is a Yellowish reddish tint that appears on the front camera however the back cover is fine. The picture is like thousand of small dots flicker on the screen and if i keep it very close to my face then i can notice it. If I click the Picture the picture seems to be completely fine.
Can any one of you please check and let me know if you are also facing this kind of Issue?

I took it to the service center and they said it a problem. He asked me to come tomorrow and they would update the firmware to a latest build and hopefully issue would be resolved otherwise they would replace it for me
ok so i got the same issue but i dont know if it is firmware of the camera problem , but the pic taken out is completely fine

So, I am thinking to get the software updated to latest build and then dont take replacement and keep using it.

Of course it's an issue. It alters and creates an inaccurate preview. Why should it be flawed if the front is fine?

If you grab Front Camera Video it is also an issue because it uses the same Live-View as what you see on the screen.

Yes I agree. The video has hell lot of noise. But the picture comes out clear. I took the phone to service center and they reflashed the firmware and issue was still there. He told me he can replace the phone for me, but i refused as this is only the problem and i dont want to get a newphone which is of a different batch and has hell lot of other Issues.
Yeah, I've had this problem since I got the phone. I made a thread a couple weeks ago about it being an issue. I'm not updated to the current software, but I didn't think it would help, lol.
And it is very important to me as I'm a SnapChat whore in every meaning of the word, and, for some reason, the final image when taken in SnapChat is NOT made better as if it were taken with the Camera app.
I also have a 14w19, and I see what you mean. I don't mind so much as I don't use the front camera a whole lot (only with SnapChat, and the video quality isn't always the nest there anyway). I'm not bothered.
I'm bothered that for $700, the hardware and perhaps software in this case is so obviously flawed. I mean they really advertised the hell out of their camera prowess. But the front camera looks like the whole screen is dipped in sand.
It is clearly a software issue and I think it dosnt matter what batch you have, mine is 14W18 and in with really low light I have this issue but if there is some light left there is no problem at all and also the back camera did not have any kind of this issue in my case.
I'm sure that it's a software issue. Why else would the picture be correct after actually taking it with the built-in Camera app?

It's hard to tell what you mean exactly here. Are you saying the display on the screen has small dots on it or the picture it takes is not good.
is this something that comes across in a video chat or not as in the other person sees the same as well.
Can you post a screen shot so we understand better what you mean ?

Actually i wont be able to post a screenshot of it. I am talking about the front camera, when you start it the preview window that we see it is full of noise and it seems as if it has sand all over it. But the final picture is fine.

I happened to click the picture from another phone. Just see the Noise. Even if i am under light then also the noise is there but is very minimal in case if I am in complete Darkness the screen is filled with Noise.

I have this too (and I suspect everyone does)
The front camera is quite simply not very good. The reason the captured image comes out slightly differently is most probably because it's a longer exposure (than realtime preview) and there's also some noise reduction in the post processing)
Anyone got a purple overlay on their front camera when there is no light?
I get heavy purple or blueish vignetting with the front camera in low light, but only with the stock camera app.
First pic is from stock app, second one is from Google Camera.
Does anybody else see what Fuzalert2k sees when the camera is covered, i.e. dark? That means the image enhancement algorithm goes crazy in low light conditions. Does your camera work normally otherwise?

Yes, the purple hue is also apparent in not-so-low light as you can see from my sample.
No, it's not the same phenomenon at all. This effect is only visible in the end result picture and it's the entire picture rather than just a spot within it. This is also not related to white balance, just seems to be a problem in the post-processing of the stock camera app specifically.

Yeah definitely not the same thing.
Look's like I'll be using Google Camera in future.
I must say Sony really dropped the ball on the Z3C camera software, and have yet to fix it or even acknowledge it.
I come from the HTC One.
The "pink hue when dark situations" was a well known problem there.
For soem time HTC used faulty camera sensors, which caused this problem.
If you experience sthis problem with your HTC One you can send your device in and get a replacement.
I hope that this is not the same wit the Z3Cs.
I for myself can't reenact this behaviour with my Z3C.

You are trying it with the front facing camera, are you?
It wouldn't make sense if it was a faulty sensor because it only happens in the stock camera app.
Now went into a completely dark room.
You are right, with the front cam, there is little bit of pink hue on the edges.
Yes, it is very "good" that it's only visible with the stock app.
Therefore the sensor should be okay.
