Hey guys,
It doesn't seem like a lot of us here is getting a Nexus. I just got one for myself, and it is fantastic, so I am just writing an opinion piece here for anyone that's looking for an upgrade
It is big
From 3.7" to 4.7" is quite a jump. After using the phone for just a few hours, the Vision seems to be tiny in my hand. By the way, my hand is not that big so I can barely manage to use it on one hand. They make the pattern lock screen smaller in ratio than normal, and the power button on the side, and it helps a little bit. Having to use the phone with two hands is annoying, but it should curb my cellphone use when I am driving,
and it is thin
I always feel that the Vision is too thick since the first time I pick it up. Feels like a brick that I can throw and kill people with. The Nexus, on the other hand, is really thin. In fact, it's thinner than the Vision's keyboard. Since the G2 has a concave back, which is nice for holding by the way, initially it feels like the Nexus's back is convex. Yet, holding the Nexus is not much more difficult, and the glass feels good.
Keyboard
My fear when I bought the Nexus was that I won't have a keyboard to use. I almost always use the hardware keyboard even though I type faster using the touch screen. I just like the mechanical feel. Even if I use the software keyboard, I use it in landscape mode because I want it to be spacious. However, the Nexus is so big that the software keyboard in portrait is still big and easy to type. It should be familiar with most people here because 4.2JB keyboard is almost the same as 4.0ICS.
About the Gesture Typing thing..... I don't use it. I don't like the notion of the computer learning what I want to type, telling me what I should type, suggesting me the word that I should use.... I decide what I input into my device.
Speed
It is fast. The Vision is almost unbearably slow for me these day. The Nexus is just fast and smooth. You'll love it.
Screen
The screen looks gorgeous. I don't know much about screen tech, but it looks much much much better than the Vision's. The glass is thinner so the screen appear closer to the user. It looks much more realistic. It is also darker, reflect less light so it appears as if the screen is almost the entire front face. Thinner side bezel also helps.
Battery
I have heard good things about the Nexus's battery, but those things haven't quite arrived on my phone yet. Granted, I haven't even charge it since I got it. After nearly 2 years of using the Vision with a lot of abuses, and with 4.0ICS on it, almost anything would have better battery anyways.
I am a heavy user, so the battery doesn't hold up to well. After 4 hours 20 minutes of usage, it went from 90% when I just got it to 17% ..... However, the screen was on for 2 hours, and I downloaded about 300MB of stuff via cell towers and 700MB of stuff via wifi. The phone also had to install quite a ton of stuff. So may be it will do better tomorrow. I'll update.
Update: I got through a day (12 hours) of medium use with 25% battery left. Not bad.
Camera
Haven't tried. I use a camera for shooting. But, in comparison with Vision's 4.0ICS patched camera, almost anything should be better anyways. I'll update this when I get a chance to shoot something.
4.2JB
It's great. Smooth (most of the part should be because of the quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM). Some new functions such as lock screen widget and day dreams. Lock screen widget selection is extremely limited (Gmail, SMS, Calendar, Soundsearch, Clock), we have better stuffs around. And the day dreams thing..... most Android phones don't even have a dock to begin with.
Space
On the 16GB model, you get 12GB for your stuff. The entire 16GB is ROM. So everything is in one place (which also means stuffs are faster than they are in SD card)
About that glass back
Someone said somewhere on the internet that the thing is also Gorilla Glass 2. Some other people said that it cracks within a day or so. Mine hasn't yet. The glittering dots is only visible when viewed with an angle. I don't know what is the deal with it.
And about that LTE thing
Edit: It is confirmed (youtube videos, news, etc.) that the Nexus 4 can work on LTE band IV (no root needed, just few touches). Rumors say that when T-Mobile has their LTE up and running, it will be LTE band IV.
I don't need LTE. At least a long as there a still a tiny cap for these expensive data plan.
However, HSPA+ on T-Mobile is not that slow either. I mentioned in my posts here and there that part of the reason internet feels slow just because the phone itself is slow. I also posted speedtest on the Vision a while back ago, 3-4Mbps something.
If HSPA+ is a highway, the Vision would be an old Honda minivan... towing a mobile home. It just cant utilize the full potential of the network. The Nexus, on the other hand, is a freaking 12-cyclinder Ferrari zipping around at max speed, only slows down because of traffic congestion.

And the wacky things
There's an IMEI sticker on the back. The shipped plastic cover even has a cut out for that space. Even a box painted for it there..... I already bought a full-body screen protector, hopefully the Skinomi didn't rush to make these plastic without space for the IMEI sticker. Weird f***ing decision....
Also, no headphones included.

Nice one mate. Got the same plans but waiting on G to ship my damn fone. I have had 3 phones with physical keyboards but the capacitive screen on my DZ means the physical keyboard is still as new as the day I bought the phone.
I would have carried on using the DZ as it serves all my needs but that bit were it says "Loading" for like 20 secs and you cant do anything with the phone, is starting to get on my nerves.

I am still staying with Desire Z it is useful enough.
Curious where you heard good things about the battery. Every review I've read has said the opposite, though I have read that compared to the gnex it's a lot better.
One of the main reasons people avoid this device I think. Bad/mediocre battery life + non removable battery. If you have access to a charger it's not so bad, but not all of us are that lucky.
I should note that battery reviews are to be taken with a grain of salt, though. I get 6h+ screen on time with the sgs3 (lte disabled) and a lot of tests I've seen clock it in at a lot lower.

Well, that's what I heard. That it's better then the GNexus and people get 10-14 hours from it.

Nice review man. I'm also on a g2 right now used the s3 for a month and sold it for the nexus 4 but wasn't expecting to be backordered for 3 weeks. Ur definitely right about the g2 feeling like a tiny brick after using one of the newer bigger screen phones lol. In all honestly I still love my g2 but like someone mentioned I just can't take the slowness anymore. I'm so pumped for the nexus 4 I'm perfectly fine with 16gb and no lte as I doubt tmobile will have lte in toledo ohio for at least 2 years. And blk_jack are u gonna make a rom for nexus 4 please do!! I got freaking 5 HOURS OF ON SCREEN TIME with ur mimicry rom!!!

The rom team I've been working with (SlimRoms) is currently working on establishing a 4.2 base with the nexus 4 as one of the model devices for that base. Right now a number of devices (21) run 4.1.2. With a large number of those if not all scheduled to get 4.2, along with the nexus 4.
TLDR; If you want a jellybean rom that I've been working on check out SlimBean.

Thanks for the review. What really holds me from replacing my Desire Z is the keyboard... I can type without even looking at the keys, a bit like typing on a "real" keyboard (with two thumbs versus 10 fingers, though) on the Desire Z's, which (for me at least) just isn't possible on any touch screen keyboard I tried so far. Also the fn keys are really great, speeds up typing quite a lot because I don't have to long press some button, wait for the phone to recognize I have been long pressing, select the character I really wanted to type etc...
Oh, and for anyone really having speed issues with their DZ/G2: Did you clean install your ROM, or did you update without wiping? For me, this made the difference between a quite fast reacting phone and a unbearably sluggish one...
I received my N4 yesterday, it replaces my good old vision. I'm experiencing quiet the same things. Except the Keyboard. I LOVE the swiping thing. Already had swipeIT on my vision for quick texting with one thumb. The N4 Version is even better (perhaps it's a subjective feeling cause of the genereal speed of the device).
But I miss the HW keyboard while ssh'ing one of our servers. Would not be that bad, if the N4 had a trackbal.... the second thing I miss.
There is such a thing as a fast qwerty. HTC Doubleshot has been out for quite some time now. Made the switch back in February. Exceptional little phone.

My contract ends in a couple of weeks, I really want an N4 as well but because its only 16GB and they are sold out atm, means I will probably get the Galaxy S3. Is there anything faster with an SD slot?
Wow. Very informative review. I have been waiting for the money to buy the 16GB, and this just makes me want it even more. Unfortunately, until G has the stock, wont be able to get anyways.

Honestly not sure if its the phone or the OS Im tired of. Have been using my G2 for over a year, been using Android for the same amount of time (G2 was my first Android device). Lately I haven't been interested in trying any ROMs, none have really peaked my interest to be honest due to the little issues in them. Not sure what I should do from here......

I still love the phone but I am definitely getting a little bored with it. Same as with most things. After so long of use, it feels like it is time for something new.
I use MIUI and it seems the fastest and smoothest to me (probably as good as you can get on the hardware), so getting bored I try other ROMs but they aren't as smooth so I go back to MIUI. I think ICS might spice things up for a little while l, but I think an upgrade might help.

i wasn't bored of it, i was simply tired of the lag, missed messages and genrally just the lack of RAM.
i took the plunge and moved to the desire HD (couldnt afford anything newer)
and i notice the difference in ram immediately, there are LOADS more apps open at once now, and everything just generally feels snappier. and even with all my apps open i have 100mb+ ram left, constantly,
it's a shame that the DZ didnt have more ram, because otherwise i think i could've stuck with it for so much longer.

I still use mine all the time. I have ICS on it. And with supercharger it's plenty fast. And I can text sweet things to my gf much easier and quicker using the keyboard. That being said get a hercules and rock both.

What's with all of these posts really...If you're "tired" of the phone go buy another one and use this as a backup. A lot of people do it lately.
Sure - I would be happy to buy a new phone, just as soon as you can invent a phone that has the G2's reliability, developer support, style, at least as good of a real keyboard, display quality, and make sure it works with T-mobile so I can have unlimited everything, including wifi hotspot, free tethering and free wifi calling, and no overage charges possible for only $60/month no-contract!
Yeah, that's what I thought, the G2 has no upgrade that can be made, because it is the best phone/carrier combo out there!
But I do wish there was a magical way to have the reception in rural area and LTE deep building penetration that I envy on Verizon (but I don't envy paying nearly $200/month for the features listed above!)
Still love my phone since the day I got it. Reliable and tough, stylish and sleek. I do look forward to an upgrade, but it's not something that i'm set my heart to. Can't really beat the DZ =)

g2 has been an awesome phone especially for my first Android phone but I can't wait for the next g series or maybe I'll try out the gnex. Contracts not up till October so hopefully there'll be something cool out then

I recently tried a few things to give my G2 a different look and feel. Here's what I have:
meXdroidMod Atomic ROM -- been using meXdroidMod for awhile now
GO Launcher EX ICS theme -- cool screen transitions, my favorite is sphere
GO Locker -- ICS style, and I don't have date and time showing
GO SMS Pro -- I have had this for awhile
GO Weather -- besides HD video background, I like the Temperature Trend among some of the other features
With a couple of apps and also creating shortcuts to access them easily and quickly, i find my G2 very useful and not boring. Now if only I had a bigger screen...
I never understood this emotion where people get bored of things and feel the need to get the newest stuff. To me, the G2 is a solid device and the only time I would ever think of changing is out of necessity: not so much boredom. If I needed a faster GPU or a larger screen or better speakers and so forth: I can definitely understand the decision then because you have a practical purpose for the future device. But to be bored of a device and wanting to upgrade for no other reason because of it is exactly what companies want you to do. convolution put it best, "consumerism", but I would also add the word "affluence" as well.

Lol you must be delusional. This is a great phone, but as soon as I find a nexus s I'm going back. Not only is the phone faster in both the CPU and gpu department, the wolfson sound chip is a god send for music lovers (the g2 can't power my 120$ Sony earbuds and as a result aren't as loud/bass cuts out at low frequencies) , you can't beat the samoled screen (after a little tweaking with voodoo colors it gives a better pq than my 40" ex400) and to top it off ics is smooth as a gyroscope. I can't tell a difference scrolling around home screens and menus compared to my buddies gnex. Dev support is off the charts. IMO the nexus s is the device to have over a gnex or gs2.

Ill tell you what though. This battery life is AMAZING. Running ilwt cm7 @1.3 ghz ondemand with backround data on.

truth, it must be quoted. I've yet to see a newer phone with all the qualities I want in a phone. I'm extremely lucky that I got this phone with my family's contract, I had no idea of the developer support behind it when I did choose it.
G2 is my first android device too. And also one year I have been using it. I love my G2 just because it my "first time". I've tried almost every Rom from xda. And now using sense 3.5. But, frankly speaking, I'm considering t buy a new better one.

Wow, that audio chip intrigues me. I primarily use my phone as a music player at the gym and I like my music loud. However I get distortion when I try to adjust the frequencies past a certain point. Is this Wolfson chip a solution?

Let's run down this list:
No LTE
720p screen is relatively standard
No hardware keys
Front camera is wimpy
No microSD
No USB Host/OTG out of box
Not easy to replace/disassemble
Poor impact protection (we've all seen the horrors)
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?)
Average battery
I literally feel I'd be getting more with a One X or S3 for nearly the same price (I did get the phone directly from T-Mobile, which allows for exchange, though it is more expensive). So what if I have official Google support... what else makes this phone as great as people say it is?!? The GNex, and S2 also seem like better choices, if we are specifically discussing the same price point. The more I use it, the more iPhone-y it feels, just running 4.2.2 instead of iOS 7.
In summary: Why do you have this phone and why do you like it?

You did not do your homework before you bought it?
Alright...sorry for my answer, i just hate if people crying here..you knew the Phones Hadware etc. before you got it. I really like the Nexus, it has very good handling and is lightning fast. The 720p Display is perfect, just rember ; everything above 300ppi looks the same for your eyes. I had to decide between the S3 and the N4 but after a while of playing with the S3 of a friend, i didnt even thought about buying the S3 anymore. I hate TouchWiz, its ugly and it's laggin. Maybe you know someone with an s3/OneX where you can test the phone for yourself

If I was to get an S3 or HTC One or One S or One X, the first thing I would to is S-OFF and install the latest CyanogenMod build. I would not stick to Sense/TouchWiz.

I mean that's kind of a given. My Samsung Mesmerize runs 4.2.2 because of CM, when it would otherwise be stuck at 2.3.4.

Okay, but i dont understand your question then, if you defintely wont keep Sense/TouchWiz , why would you get the S3 or the OneX/S instead of keeping the Nexus? They are nearly the same... except of the Screen Processor etc. And of course the Handling but i think the N4 is better in all those categories ?

I literally feel I'd be getting more with a One X or S3 for nearly the same price (I did get the phone directly from T-Mobile, which allows for exchange, though it is more expensive). So what if I have official Google support... what else makes this phone as great as people say it is?!? The GNex, and S2 also seem like better choices, if we are specifically discussing the same price point. The more I use it, the more iPhone-y it feels, just running 4.2.2 instead of iOS 7.

1. it does have lte, its just disabled. you can enable it, i use strictly lte now.
2. its better than most devices
3. one of the best features
4. almost all front cams are wimpy

The phones I listed have the features that a Nexus 4 doesn't. Other than a quad core processor, all I see is advantages on the other phones. The HTC One has better audio quality and camera, the S3 (IMO) has a better screen and is a lot more disassembly-friendly, and includes LTE, an SD card slot, and many more things.

S2 has a nearly as well established dev community, i know the screen is only 800x480, but the processor speed is comparable, USB OTG is out of the box, dedicated buttons for actions.

I'm have my nexus 4 since today, and the phone it's amazing... I have the doubt to buy s3 or n4, and decide to nexus4, because of everything.... Better hardware, more beautiful... The card slot I don't care, or radio fm... Nexus it's awesome phone

No LTE - Not in my area, plus I get better speeds than cable with HSPA+.
720p screen is relatively standard - And more than sufficient for a 4.7 inch display. Why would you want to waste more battery and GPU pushing more pixels? Especially when you ***** about battery life and screen replacement cost just a few lines down.
No hardware keys - Nexus won't ever have them, but you knew that, right?
Front camera is wimpy - More than enough for it's intended purpose. Why would I want to compress more pixels for a video chat?
No microSD; No USB Host/OTG out of box - Design decision, but you knew that, right? Its a phone, I have no need for these.
Not easy to replace/disassemble - Did you check the iFixit teardown? More serviceable than most phones. I think the build design is very good.
Poor impact protection - The drop tests I saw had it compare favorably to the S3.
Expensive replacement parts (what is it, $90 for the front?) - Yes, due to a fused digitizer/display. Seems about average for both.
Average battery - Check out Qualcomm's Battery Guru.
In addition to my differences with the above assessments, I think the phone looks and feels great, works great, is open and unlocked (I will never be on contract again), and is priced at a point where I won't get sick if I lose it or drop it (which for me really adds to the usability).

I get great battery life. The GPS locks insanely fast. The phone is blazing fast. Dev support is second-to-none. It's gorgeous. It feels amazing in my hand. The screen looks great. I don't have to settle for CM.
Oh, and PA is developed specifically for this device. That means we get the new features first. And the builds aren't ports. They're compiled, fully functioning builds.
I currently have a Nexus S which I have had for 2 years now. I'm considering the Nexus 4, was going for the S4 but this is half the price, and the iPhone 6 would be too far out and the iOS would not be to my liking.
I know I cannot really go wrong with the Nexus 4 - it's loved by every reviewer, and not because of its price - the price is only a bonus.
What are its major flaws? I have a few things I was curious about:
- Screen touch sensitivity/fluidity. When your finger touches/swipes on the screen, does it behave like an iPhone 5 or the Galaxy S3/4/Note II devices? I personally like the sensitivity to your finger from the iPhone and Samsung's Galaxy devices. I don't have this in my current Nexus S but definitely would like it in my next phone.
- Battery life. Can it last 14-16 hours, with let's say, 2-3 hours of screen time or so?
- Camera. I've seen some sample pictures, was not too impressed, but as long as it's decent I'm fine.
- Headphone output? I heard the headphone output is lower than other devices from a video. Not sure if significant.

Tbh I've considered that, but it'll be announced in October, released in December, and if I want it with my carrier it'll probably hit in perhaps March/April of 2014, unless I choose to buy it from the Play Store.
I also heard it packs in a lot, and I think Google's going to price it high this time around. Either way, my current carrier is offering the N4 16GB for only $300 outright. So its price seems lower than market value, and it for some reason is hard for me to wait.

- Screen touch sensitivity/fluidity. I would say the same, hard to notice the difference.
- Battery life. 5+ hrs on screen time with WiFi on (I dont have data so thats not in use). It was a definate improvement from Galaxy S.
- Camera. There is a mod floating around that allows you to get better quality pictures at the cost of a larger file size.
- Sound. NOTHING beat Galaxy S's sound chip. I was disappointed a bit here.
- Overall animation/fluidity/framerate. Stock android on N4, even the most overclocked Galaxy S with the most slimmed rom cannot come close to these speeds.
- Size. I like smaller phones that fit into my pocket easier. Galaxy S wins here but thats a personal choice. HD videos play exactly to scale on the N4, you just feel immersed.
- Physical features. You can't drop it, glass on both sides, bumpers/cases probably won't do anything. It's also heavier. No removable battery or SD card. I made the mistake of getting the 8GB, dont. Doesn't feel plasticky/cheap like the Galaxy S.
ROM support is very nice here, I think it's just as good as when Galaxy S was in it's prime.
You have to get it, try getting it through your provider ($300 in canada for the 16Gb via koodo whereas $366 shipped from goolge for the 8Gb)

Buying from Play Store is better anyway, at least for T Mobile USA.
What can the Nexus 4 do that your Nexus S can't? The Nexus 5 will be even better than the Nexus 4 on all scales. It is rumored to be based off the LG G2 which will have stereo speakers, bigger screen, improved camera, and much more. Maybe even launched with Key Lime Pie(?)

i had a nexus s for long time, loved that thing. yes, it does have great sound, especially with voodoo, but the nexus s is merely a childs toy compared to the nexus 4. heck, the galaxy nexus was a large step from the nexus s. you will love the nexus 4. coming from two samsung phones in a row(ns and gnex), i first thought that not having a plastic back was the nexus 4s' major flaw, but now i dont mind

Touch sensitivity is quite good for an android device similar to the nexus s, but the nexus 4 has lower touch sensitivity than it is capable of because of the touchscreen drivers, this problem has supposedly been fixed in the upcoming android 4.3 update but honestly touch response is very good you won't have a problem.
As for battery expect 4-5 hours sot on WiFi and 3-4 hours on 3g.
Photos in good lighting conditions are quite good but in low light its another story so if you take pictures in good light you'll be okay.
I find the sound output to be fairly reasonable its quite loud I don't think you'll have a problem with it unless you need to drive something huge with a high impedance, for normal headphones/earphones its loud enough.

You can drop it with a bumper on and screen protectors. I dropped mine onto concrete and accidentally stepped on it. Lol its perfectly fine except for the scratch on my screen protector

Gets extremely hot when gaming. I'm not sure whether this causes damage, but it makes me sweat on the device.
Both 3G and Wifi have connection issues. This may be fixed in software, but I'm not sure.
Speaker sound isn't as good as some other phones.
Being totally flat, it sits flush on a surface and the speaker is covered, muting notification sounds.
Being made of glass, there's twice as much breakable surface.
I upgraded my Nexus S for the N4 about the time it launched, so I know how slow it must be getting.
While its not perfect, I wouldn't trade it for anything on the market. It's a nexus device, which has the major benefit of being the first to be updated and having more stable ROMs, which you will miss from other devices.
The battery is not as good as I would have hoped for, but it will get me through the day as long as I'm not using it constantly. With mobile data on, I can get 2 hours of SOT (Screen on Time) if I wasn't playing games.
On the topic of the screen, I can tell you that the stock color calibration is extremely washed out. It's a good screen, they just botched the calibration. I remember looking at it for the first time and being really disappointed because of the faded look of colors like blue. This is something that is easily fixed by a non-stock kernel like Franco's Kernel, which is the one I use. The calibration I have right now looks amazing.
While the headphone output is quiet by the standards of most phones, I don't notice it unless I plug it into something like external speakers, or my car.
Also, it's probably worth noting that the 4.3 update that was leaked yesterday is supposed to drastically improve touch sensitivity.
and I would probably wait until at least the 24th of July on the off chance that Google announces lower pricing or a higher capacity version.
Touch Pretty darn smooth. Without a screen protector that is. But even with a sp you'll be able to swipe like no other. Response is top notch and definitely on par with new released phones. (Just my opinion)
Battery If you're a heavy user the battery might slack. If you're an addict, don't get this phone lol. But if you're able to balance data / running apps / screen time / etc. this phone will be perfect. (Choose the right rom & kernel, or just stay stock with a nice kernel)
Camera I don't use it that much but its alright, not the best out there. If you're some fancy photographer I doubt you'll be satisfied. But still takes pretty nice pictures as long as you take it right
Headphone I literally listen to music all day if I'm out of my house. No doubt the output is nice and clear, but it all depends on what type of headphones you're using.
This phone isn't a super computer. It lags when it needs to and produces slight flaws as you use it. But then again, what electronic doesn't
In the end, it all depends on the user's preferences. But if anything, I'd recommend waiting for the N5.
One of the most annoying things about the N4 is undoubtedly the fact that notifications etc cannot be heard when the phone lies flat with the screen up. Many calls have been missed due to this fact...

Do u run custom Roms/kernels on the nexus s?
If you want the same experience x100 then the nexus 4 is for u.
I went from a nexus s to a nexus 4 and I'm more than happy. Android + iOS smoothness.
Flaws:
The touchscreen unresponsiveness is not major (very soft touches don't register sometimes) and it is remedied with either a custom kernel in 4.2.2 or with the upcoming 4.3 (new touchscreen driver).
Screen colors are a bit washed, but with the same solutions as above screen is beautiful.
The phone is made of glass, so it is not as resilient to falls as the nexus s.
Some people experience notification delays on specific WiFi routers. Never had such problem myself.
The phone tends to get hot when in mobile network or under heavy use (because its glass). Can be solved with custom kernels, undervolting/underclocking (this is the most tweakable phone ever).
No issues with audio.
Camera is good. Not the best, but acceptable quality.
Battery life is typically between 4 to 6 hours screen on time, on WiFi, which is pretty good in my opinion.
P.s. this phone offers the smoothest android experience from every other phone I put my hands on.

btw is an awesome phone
I wouldn't wait for n5 as it's rumored to have a 5" screen which I feel is too large.

dropped my 4 times because it keeps slipping down the table only slight scratch on the back glass

What do you think now that we are somehow sure the Nexus 5 will share most same hardware as the G2,should I swap my One with G2 as soon as the international version is out here,or wait for Nexus 5?
One of the reason I want to swap is the bigger 5.2'' screen in not so big body,dunno if LG will retain the size for N5,but in another hand what I am afraid of with the G2 and could be corrected in N5 is the low volume of speaker.
Software wise if both phones have more than 90% same hardware it will mean we can port 4.4 easily on G2 and LG's UI on N5.
So what should I do?
I am a long time GN user and has been extremely happy with my old Galaxy Nexus phone. I was really looking forward to Nexus 5, and was planning to wait until it is release before making my decision.
I took the plunge with G2 recently and have been using it for awhile. The things that make me really happy is the battery life. Now my phone actually lasted me more than a day.
Another reason is the price of Nexus 5, which will be high in Thailand. Probably as much as G2. (My Galaxy Nexus costed me 600+usd a few years back).
One thing I will miss about Nexus devices is the development and support. Even now my GN is running 4.3 with latest patches and update. While my brand new G2 is running 4.2.2.
G2 Device is blazing fast, with battery life that last. It will keep me from tinkering with rom/kernel upgrades and just focus on using G2.
Personal choice, no one else can decide for you .
I couldn't wait, and I am happy I didn't because the G2 is amazing. Super super fast and awesome battery life.
I am not a real heavy user (I don't play games or watch movies, I mostly use it for texting/browsing/email/weather/NFL/etc.. and streaming music in my car through Gmusic) and right now I unplugged at 5am yesterday, it is now 7:10am the next day (26 hrs later) and I am at 83%.

Plus if it really does pan out that the N5 is just a slight variant of the G2, the ROMs might share a lot of the same "stuff", meaning development for the N5 may be easily ported to the G2.
I enjoy my G2 and I'm sure the N5 well be fine since its a LG product. The major difference would be running vanilla android. I'm fine with the current UI for what I do.

The more I use the LG UI, the more I start to worry about going back to stock AOSP... I don't precisely know where the VZW starts and the LG ends, but they sure have done a damn fine job of keeping this from being ****.
Although, I did find some Engrish in one screen: "QuickRemote does not support in landscape mode." Definitely showing Korean roots there, gents.
Still, AOSP/vanilla Android always seems sort of half-way there, like they keep missing little things that should be obvious. Apple is developing the same problem now that Cook is running the shop. iOS, until version 7, seemed to have someone in charge of UX who was a complete control freak over maintaining coherence. I don't mind iOS 7 and it's definitely an improved aesthetic, but it doesn't feel as polished as previous versions.

I have a Nexus 7 for kitkat. I can't fathom carrying two 5" phones around. Lol.
I had this same problem!
I loved my nexus 4! ran flawless, not a terrible camera and decent battery life and I was waited for the 5 until I dropped my beloved nexus and cracked the whole screen :crying: so having to go back to my old GS3 was no fun. I hated touchwhiz more than anything.
What did push me to buy the G2 over the nexus was the fact that the trend with nexus phones is usually outdated (not by much, but still not top of the line) technology in order to keep the price lower. With the G2 you have top of the line everything as well as a amazing design! If money is not a issue go with the LG, if you want to save a little money but still have an awesome phone wait for the nexus. I really actually love what LG has added to the UI. It's not overwhelming and slow like touchwhiz.
I say get the LG G2 its worth it! Once you get used to the buttons in the back you'll never want to use another phone.

I havnt tested it but at the bottom of the display window there is a aspect ratio force. Try it and report back I cant I am at work and well they hate fun.

It's not there, or I just can't find it...
Biggest reason not to wait is the 2300mah battery vs 3000mah. That and a smaller screen.... Meh. The screen I could live with, but the reviews on battery life are what made me get the g2 over waiting for the n5.

I was considering on waiting for the Nexus 5 but then I read it could only have a 2300mah battery and coming from the Maxx HD I can't do that. 3000mah sounds nice and everyone has been saying they've been getting great battery life.

I just got this phone today because it is a screamer, even on the extremely heavy LG Software. I traded in my nexus 4, because I need wifi calling in my apartment :'[.
Like many on here I've enjoyed having my galaxy nexus and the dev support has been fantastic but I will be going G2 instead of nexus 5 mainly due to the battery. the GNEX is still a great phone (although I'd be the first to admit the screen is poor) and still holds its own (aside from intensive gaming) but its the battery life is getting annoying I'm lucky to get 3/4 of a day out of it.
Also banking on similar hardware to a nexus leading to good dev support. For all the merits of LG's software (I won't slate it but I'm not wiling to try it) I want this thing stock as soon as.. well ideally paranoid android

Agreed, I was debating on Nexus 5 but I'm pretty sure it won't have the battery of the G2. Plus, we already have root and custom recovery. All we need is for the roms to flood in. In the meantime, the LG UI is pretty damn good as is.
Moto X Cons/Pros IMO
Hi, this can be a base for new Moto X users coming from other smartphones.
Pros
1. Moto X has one of the smoothest and fastest Android experience you'll have with any smartphone today.
If you're coming from a non-nexus smartphone, you'll definitely feel that. Everything just works in Moto X. It's the smartphone with the nearest experience of an iPhone in terms of speed and smoothness.
2. Moto X feels great in hand. It has the perfect size for a smartphone.
3. Screen size is perfect, you can reach every corner without a hassle.
Although some users might feel the difference coming from a bigger screen, you'll definately get used to it in no time.
4. Good materials, it feels like you're holding a really well made product. Not just plastic stuff.
5. Twist to fast access to camera is great.
I'm still getting used to it, but accessing the camera without even touching the screen is very handy. I thought it would be too much of a hassle to do that movement every time, but it turns out you get used to it very fast, and that's pretty easy.
6. Touchless Control.
Although it's almost useless here in Brazil, I'll include that because is it's really useful for the main languages that it includes. I still use it to showoff though. :victory:
7. The speaker is one of the best I've listened so far.
It's one of the loudest, its quality is pretty good. Basses are good too.
8. Battery life is superb.
It lasts for your entire day and even a little bit more. Compared to my last phone, a S3, I can really feel the difference.
9. Battery charges really fast.
Within 2 hours or so, my Moto X charges from 0% to 100% with stock wall charger. Considering its battery time, it's an amazingly fast charge: 2 hours charge for a 24h+ usage. My S3 used to charge in 5h+
10. Fast updates.
This is not something that will certainly happen, but it seems Motorola is committed to bring us Android OS updates and improvements updates really quickly. Although it has not been released for my Moto X here in Brazil yet, it's been released for the Moto X faster than the Nexus devices. Let's hope they keep it like that for some years, and not just because it's the momentum smartphone.
11. Active Notifications.
The best thing invented after the wheel, don't have to say anything about this.
Cons
1. Onscreen buttons takes too much space.
Although Moto X screen size is perfect, its virtual buttons takes a lot of that space, and you might feel a big hit when coming from a 4.8/5" phone that has its entire dedicated screen.
2. Camera is terrible.
Coming from a S3, I definitely felt a big hit here. Camera takes a big time to shoot photos; it takes too long to focus; it takes pics with different tonality every time, it's even hard to shoot 2 similar photos from 2 different angles. Below is an example of that.
Camera software is not the best aswell. We don't have night mode, quality/px choice, effects, and so on.

Those 2 pics are not edited and were shot with the Moto X camera in practically the same moment.
3. Touchless Control doesn't work everywhere.
For example in Brazil, not all the commands are available and it's just useful to call for someone and check weather predictions. Despite using it to call for someone, we don't get audio feedback for any of the commands.
4. Too thin for 2 hands usage?
That's a real real personal thought, but although Moto X has the perfect size for a one-hand feel, I'm really having a hard time typing in the keyboard and I wouldn't blame if it was a little wider. The phone is thinner than the S3, that I used to rest both hands and type, and wider than a smartphone that we can rest one hand and use the other sidewards.
But I'm really sure it's something I'll get used to within some time.
5. No sdcard slot.
I'm yet to see if this will be really a down vote to me on Moto X, but at least in my old S3, I had to use a 16gb sdcard to store some extra musics and pics. The default 16gb was not sufficient.
Well, that's it. It's a really great phone and it was for sure a great improvement coming from a S3. I do miss S3's camera and physical buttons, but despite that and the listed above, there's nothing else I can blame this phone for.

Yes, I'm using the lastest Jelly Bean OTA update and the lastest camera update from the Play Store.

I used a demo at the store (one had kitkat and one didn't), and the kitkat one was SO much better. I think this camera really competes with the other flagships now.

My pros:
- active display
- great feel in hand
- touchless control is really impressive (even works when the phone is in your pocket and you have headphones plugged in)
- battery life
- speaker
- performance
- call quality
- twist to launcher the camera
Cons:
- display is way too over saturated
- phone is heavier than I thought
- The camera is probably the worst I have used from all the other flagship phones this year, it really is a joke.
- locked boot loader.
This phone does the phone functionalities extremely well though I must say.

I'm not sure if the S3 boot loader is locked aswell, but we had a lot more hacks, mods and roms to use/test on the S3 than o the Moto X.

Thanks OP for sharing your experience. I'd just like to elaborate on the design.
I don't really quite know how to summarize my idea, but the emphasis on user experience is so great, it's borderline criminal, and it's easily the most understated feature of the Moto X. The texture of the back feels extremely wonderful to hold that doesn't feel like cheap plastic nor cold hard aluminium. The contours (?) of the phone is curved in such a way that feels absolutely comfortable - I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola took the palm/hand profiles of many people and designed the back with it. In conjunction with that, the buttons are positioned well enough to allow me to reach for them whenever I need it. And that dent on the back cover! My finger now gravitates to that point to get a solid grab on the phone. _Finally_ I have a phone that doesn't have to depend on aluminium for that premium feel, or worse still, give UX design a middle finger and design a pile of manure (*coughsamsungcough*) for use.
I was really pleasantly surprised to find out for myself how good the speaker was. It's loud, but distortion is hardly noticeable at maximum volume. (Coming from a Galaxy Nexus, I suppose I get a bit too excited. heh) The camera's been improving steadily, thankfully, but it could use more repairs. I would appreciate it very much if I could take photos faster - the idea of twist-to-camera is kinda wasted on a slow-responding camera like this.
I have friends using the Nexus 5 beside me, and in all honesty I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. Then again, I paid a bloody premium for the phone . But seriously speaking, no regrets. At all. If I had to make the decision all over again, I'd still shoot for the Moto X. Never mind that there's no support for LTE in Malaysia or Singapore (I alternate between these two countries most frequently), or that the SD card slot is missing. I have not been so contented with a purchase in a very, very long time.
For me the biggest thing missing is wireless charging inbuilt.. the port for charging is terrible.. tests my patience every time i try to plugin charger

I agree. Coming from the Galaxy Nexus, the plug doesn't seem to go in as firmly as the GNex did. I would have loved wireless charging, as well.

My biggest and only real complaint about the Moto X is the camera. It does not feel like it matches up to even some 2011 phone cameras.

is so much more sensitive in 4.4. I'm using the nexus 5 gel and my phone is constantly beeping and googling my last few words. Kinda strange
I'm still on 4.2.2 but I would have to say the camera, the smaller screen size, and the color saturation of the screen.
I bought a nexus 5 earlier this month and switch between the two phones all the time. {Google apps sync everything} and those would be my main complaints. Obviously the screen size is completely subjective, but I much prefer the n5 screen. I do like the battery life, but I usually have a charger at work and at home, and both phones seem to give me more than acceptable battery life.
The biggest complaint I have is the lack of accessories, cases and screen protectors for it.
I also would like our Canadian carriers to hurry up with the 4.4 updates.
