Our development team who has been assigned to the vibrant seem to have stalled out on interest in porting CM over to our beloved vibrant. I wonder if Samsung will actually release 2.2 before the developers.
Just curious if anyone knows why its moving along so slowly.
I was really hoping to see more fanfare over the vibrant being such a fabulous piece of hardware.
And with that being said.... those who live to rip someone to shreds for talking such blasphemy.... lemme have it.

If you offer to bankroll their efforts, they might be able to allocate more of their time to Vibrant development.
It's moving slowly since the Cyan devs are still working on the MT3GS. All the supplies (I think) are in place since Wes (The Cyan developer for this phone) got a phone to work on.

Samsung said "End of September" which really mean "at the earliest." I have little doubt the CM6 team will have a ROM out long before then.

^^ this is correct, once the slide is done we should see some progress :]
in all honesty, if i was them i would wait. Do all the prep work that is necessary and just wait for Samsung to release the 2.2 source to mod from, it would make it that much easier and more compatible.
I say that fully expecting Samsung not to change anything and that means leaving root/clockwork being super easy to implement. Now should that change, then the prep work is done, just have to get cooking
Wes is a fabulous dev. (kicked him some funds back in the G1 dev days.
I think he should toss that slide to the. Curb and work on a real phone.

Plus one on this. The phones got awesome specs to work with. I wish I knew how..lol but ill still try and be patient ...
I could have sworn the evo had roms after a month.. were no where near close to that time frame....
I still don't think Wes should of called that if he got extra donation money for his "laptop" he would purchase a Vibrant and dev for it if he wasn't going to be doing it right away. Since that did kind of help people who has a Vibrant donate for his laptop. I'm glad that there are other talents out there coming into the Vibrant community though.
Saw bbuchacher, justanotherdev, eugene coming along. Hopefully everything will fall into pieces in the upcoming month. And yeah I don't even think myTouch Slide is even popular at all, so iono. Not trying to be impatient or "cry" about it but just speaking justification point of view. Just my 2 cents.
I think most of you guys need to just chill out. Im no where close to being a dev and almost every mod I did on my G1 i've flashed, if you're in the same boat, then definitely need to stop questioning developemnt. If you read closer, or really followed the updates from the other threads, devs and twitter updates you'd see that there is more going on.
Now I can be completely wrong with this, but here is what im getting out of what the current status of Vibrant development is:
-The MTS is currently "first in line" to be caught up to CM6
-The MTS was/is having problems running CM6 being "stable", even with the phone still being manufactured by HTC and Cyanogen working along with side with the devs assigned to it
-Eugene, JAC and others have started to breakdown and develop the Vibrant
-JAC has been asked to merge his work to Github....
Make your conclusions... Donate... Start deving... Shut up... Remember no dev owes you anything.
EDIT: Donation- an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution... usually not tied to any personal gain.
I keep seeing the "Don't worry when CM6 hits it will be amazing. Don't worry when CM6 comes it will fix the problem."
HTC and Samsung are very different animals. Devs have come and gone as well.

Last time I checked his Twitter, Dell is taking forever to get his laptop to him as he did some customization to the configuration... Dell took over a month to get my mom her laptop when she changed a few options.

Took me over 2 months for Dell to build a laptop actually, I'm never buying from Dell again.
Still saying, there was a forum thread on the Development forum saying to donate to Wes to get the Vibrant and all that. Kind of a deceiving, im not impatient whatsoever.
Wes still has access to a computer, I believe and is coding for the Slide so it's not like he doesn't have a computer.
I understand that it would look bad on his part if he bailed on the Slide like that. There could of been better outcomes if a developer who was primarily dedicated to porting CM6 to the Vibrant from the very beginning rather than as a secondary objective.
wesgarner and Scepterr are the developers assigned to the Samsung Galaxy S.
I just donated $25. Donate and lets get this phone off the ground.

There are a few already in the development forum. Not sure if any of them are "Teamdouche" but none the less they are devs. JAC already said "I'll be moving my stuff to Github upon request" and "As long as I'm credited for my work you can use it."

what a bunch of cry babies don't worry the Vibrant's turn will come, its definitely a good platform worth doing **** to, a few little things here and there are messed up with the phone but its nothing that hasn't already been addressed.
just be patient, you have to remember that its not like it used to be. Its not just the G1 anymore its a **** load of Android phones with their own issues and with a bunch of cry baby owners just like you lol
the day XDA goes away is the day all of you guys will pull all your hair out. the phones been out for a couple weeks and to be honest i dont think the Galaxy S line sold as well as a lot of other high end devices (EVO,Droid X) so of course devs are gonna go where the masses are.
You think we have it bad? go look at the Captivate section of XDA, they dont have ****, no cases, no roms and out of the Galaxy S line we actually have a decent amount of little morphs and fixes to get us by for now. Be patient dont give up

I am by no means complaining and am not at all a developer. just a happy android user and rom flasher I just came from MT3G.
I know the Vibrant is new, but with a Galaxy being released on all 4 major carriers, I am honestly surprised a bunch of developers have not jumped all over the Vibrant and Captivate that are out with the 2 others expected soon...I mean this is basically the first time that I know of that virtually the same phone is being released on all 4 US carriers! it seems like a developers dream. are the US galaxy's just still too new?
Going along with that, when Dev start making Roms for US Galaxys, will basically all the same Roms easily run on all 4 US Galaxy variants? basically will they just need some very minor tweaking bc the same hardware? (except for qwerty version)? or will there have to be major modding with the same rom between the different US variants? (if very little tweaking is needed, that is why it seems to me that the US galaxy S versions would be so appealing to dev's)
Lastly, even though ive not rooted mine yet, (mt3g was rooted for the past year), I am looking forward to CM6 like everyone else. But it seems thats mostly what I have seen talked about is CM6. no doubt that the CM team are at the top of the game, but what about developers bringing other Roms too, for example Sense? I am just wondering why most seem to just talk about wanting CM6 when there are tons of other developers and other Roms (coming from my experience with g1/mt3g)?
I know this was a long post, but these topics have been on my mind lately. what do you guys think to any of my thoughts/questions posted above?
The phones haven't even been out a month, give it time. They're drastically different from the HTC setup that most devs are used to, so there is a steep learning curve that needs to be tackled. Also the devs have more then one phone on their plate. They should focus on what they started first before taking on another project, so I expect them to get the slide where it needs to be before starting on the galaxy s.

Guys, we have a custom kernel. That was a huge step. There is significant progress here. JACs kernel is on rev2. We have other good devs outside of the main CM team looking at things as well. Give them some time, this is a whole new way of doing things, they are having to learn how Samsung does stuff. I honestly think we will see a custom AOSP 2.2 before Samsung releases their custom one.

Welcome to Nexus S, i also love this phone and i hope you come up with something amazing. Seems that the devs start rollling in. They just yesterday or the day before released Nexus S in some of the major contries of Europe. Hope the Nexus S will come alive now
I've had ideas for my own custom ROM. So, if I have the time, I would like to help out. I will try to write up a list of all my ideas later. One of the big ones is that CM requires a custom kernel than ROMs based off stock. They leave something out, so this ROM should do things right from the start and make sure that kernels built for stock, will run. That will make it easier for users to pick their own kernel and kernel Devs would not need to do anything different to make their kernels work with it.

Finally someone who has similar aims to a custom rom like me (MIUI scope) I have loads of ideas, some dev skills and some graphics too, and would love to collaborate. Ill send through a PM soon, I made some mockups ages ago for some of the ideas, so you can get an idea of where I'm coming from.

Unfortunately we take a BIG hit by not being able to have SENSE roms. We have have about 1/3 less roms due to that. The Nexus One is able to get everything, we cant, and it shows. It harder for all these great DEVs to come up with something cool.

drivers mainly, HTC Sense is for HTC devices and hardware. We unfortunately have a Samsung. I dunno about a Sense port for the Vibrant, Im gonna look into that.

The dev's that develop here either don't like TW or don't have the knowledge. Why make a TW rom when the blind fanboi's here lack the objectivity to see what is better and worse. Even CM took something from TW that they liked...doesn't necessarily make TW better but adds a nice touch. They don't get the point when you say this phone can't do a certain thing when every phone since the original Google experience phones can do it. It's like the world is playing a joke on me. I blame the trendiness that has enveloped Android these days. Back when the main phones were MT3G, G1, Hero nobody cared whether everyone liked it they just did it to show they can and because it has an advantage. You can't see an advantage objectively when your blinded with fanboiism(I just made that up..go me).
I think you are under the impression it would be simple to create a TW rom for nexus s. If so.you are sadly mistaken. If it was easy to do someone might do it but it's not. And TW sucks so bad already that taking the time and effort just to get it half working is pointless.

Yes -- if around $400 is raised (or however much is required to get a reasonably used tab) I will buy one and attempt my best (shouldn't be a problem, but I can't guarantee anything [to save my ass] ) to get my current project AOKP on the tab. It is compiled from AOSP source and is Ice Cream Sandwich.
Should be interesting to make tweaks for both a phone and a tablet. Right now there are 4 Nexus devices that can run my ROM (GSM/LTE Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S / Nexus S 4G).

I'm on a train north for the weekend but I'll read the whole thread in a not. If this is for the wifi. I have no problem tossing in $10-20 this week if we can get some real commitment to a wifi ROM being developed.
I have donated many times in the past and haven't seen anything come to fruition, but I love XDA and people pushing development.

xplodwild may be more receptive to continuing with Exynos, but at least in the case of myself and codeworkx, we are done. Our current devices are going to be our last Exynos devices unless Samsung makes major changes.

Really don't see any redeeming quality to putting cm10 on this device. The software makes this device what it is. Taking all that away makes it nothing more than a mini nexus 7. Nothing against cm10. It's great on most devices... But you are really devaluing the note by neuturing it of 75 percent of its features. This is kinda like running linux on a ps3. Yeah its neat to say you did it, but good luck playing a ps3 game.

Sounds like you lost your passion, and the reason you started doing this. Since when did people do it for it being easy? That is beyond dissapointing. I think you forgot how this all started sir.
I completely support this especially if its just for a dev to do it unofficially, but remember guys we can't hold the dev responsible for getting it done. You have to go into thinking your donating for the dev to have the phone and use it as they like not donate thinking your donating for that dev to be obligated to bring cm10. In the rezound forum we got a phone for protekk to help with aosp and people got demanding and were expecting him to bring it since they donated. This tore apart that community for a long time. So if you donate do it as a donation and not an expectation

I would say that Paranoid Android is absolutely perfect for the Note. S-Pen can be handled through different applications like GNote, Memo etc. The ability to run applications in tablet mode is such an enhancement of the device that I don´t see any single feature with the Note II that somehow "compensates".
I can agree that pure CM10 isn´t the most interesting thing on the Note II since it has the phone UI but Paranoid Android is a completely different matter.
Since PA relies on CM, it is very important to get it for the N7100 in order to get going.
Windowed applications is very nice but also a feature I guess will be implemented in either AOSP or CM in the future. Don´t forget Overskreen and FloatNote etc.
I thought at first porting CM10 would be easy in it's current state due to shared hardware with S3. I would understand if they dropped future exynos but this is an existing thing already with minor differences.
I would donate too if we can see a new maintainer taking on the device. Would be a shame not having CM on the device. It brings so much stuff for what it is and also other devs bringing their extra tweaks on top of it. A wonderful ecosystem I wanna to see and follow on xda and my device =(

Let's be honest here for just one moment, the Samsung S apps and the stylus are gimmicks that will be used once when the note is purchased then abandoned. I've owned the original note and now the note 2 and I never once pickup up the stylus for anything
What's more valuable is a fast, smooth and reliable OS

To you, but to many others (the majority of people) what Samsung is doing with features is why they are making the purchase. Honestly its mainly because of the new features as to why I'm going to upgade. I'll still have my OG note running PA CM10, which I love.

There's a difference between challenging, and utterly freaking impossible.
Challenging: Going through source and fixing bugs or adding new features. For example, for months I've wanted to try and rework the Exynos suspend/resume code to be more power efficient. (It locks cpufreq at 800 MHz and disables cpuidle for the entire suspend/resume cycle, which eats power. Also SOME interrupt service handler eats huge amounts of CPU on resume (the root cause of the classic Gingerbread "Android OS" bugs), and I'd like to figure out which one and see if it can be optimized.
Utterly freaking impossible: On a routine basis, figuring out what Samsung broke in their blobs and why it doesn't work the way it should. Trying to take totally broken nonfunctional source code and get it to work properly with zero documentation. See hwcomposer - unless a miracle happens, we will be continually stuck fighting blobs that Samsung gave us. Their blobs have some sort of significant magic not present in any reference source. The reference source creates a broken piece of **** that's almost indistinguishable from not having any hwc at all.
I've spent 10-20 hours or more per week of my spare time over the past three weeks fighting hwcomposer and making absolutely zero progress. I'm tired of flailing against a brick wall and getting nothing other than bloody knuckles.

No, porting CM10 won't be easy due to shared hardware with the S3. Have you noticed no Exynos device has M builds? Have you noticed that Exynos devices are almost always one of the last "flagship-class" devices to receive nightlies?
CM9 should never have been marked stable on Exynos devices - too many bugs remain and we lowered our standards for "stable" too much.
CM10 on Exynos is incredibly far from reaching M builds let alone a stable release and I don't think we have the manpower, motivation, or energy to take it to to the finish line, let alone the documentation needed to do so.
And what about CM11? The whole mess will just start all over again, if any maintainers are left on Exynos by then. Again, we'll be flailing against undocumented crap that didn't even quite work right with the Android version it was designed for, while those working on platforms that have proper documentation and reference source (OMAP and Qualcomm) will start moving ahead immediately. See JB on Qcoms - They took only a month or two to get ahead of where Exynos4 devices are NOW, 4-5 months after JB went live, and over half of the work those guys were doing was forward-merging CM customizations from CM9.

Then I wonder why did you buy Note at first place! IMO it's that S-Pen which makes this Note series special than other flagships like S series, and in Note II it has just gotten better.
And about your 2nd paragraph, say whatever, but kindly exclude the word 'reliable' from that list.

That's the primary reason I got my Note. Even if it didn't have a stylus I would've bought it for the screen.
Also, there are now plenty of pen apps that use the standard Android stylus APIs, so the Samsung-specific stuff is irrelevant at this point. For example, PS Touch works just fine on the Note 10.1 in AOSP. So does Quill, Papyrus, Memo Beta, LectureNotes, and a number of other apps.
The only thing beyond that which is missing are stylus gestures, and that's primarily an issue of manpower. I would've forward ported and cleaned up masiullah's pen gestures patches a month or two ago if there weren't a pile of other massively broken things unrelated to stylus.
Is it just me, or is there a lack of diversity when it comes to ROMs for the n4? I have been using the nexus lineup since the nexus s, and it seemed back then, and with the galaxy nexus, there was more variety. As in sense ROMs or xperia ROMs, miui etc... With the n4 its miui or aosp variants like AOKP or cm10.
I was a flashoholic for sure back then but now it rarely seems like its worth the effort to try new ROMs out. I typically find one that is stable, and I stick to that for weeks or perhaps a couple of months. There is the odd new feature added to these new ROMs that's interesting, but nothing ever drasticly different.
Don't get me wrong, I love the ability to dump some lines of code in and have an LTE device, or benchmark near what the new s4 puts down, I do like the phone, but why no ports?? Even now there are 4.2.2 xperia ROMs on devices out there, why no n4 love? I have been waiting forever for an alternative lock screen (bb10 or lg's) that I don't think will ever come. Just find it weird.

many of the developers love the pure android side of it in the first place, thats why they are here. and ports just arent the same, and dont run as well as a native rom. if you want a port, see what you could do to build one, id try it if you put one out
I have thought about trying to port. I don't believe I have the skills to get this done, nor the time to gain said skills. I just wonder, is this perhaps due to the fact that this is an lg device, and the others were Samsung? I would think not, but I don't know enough to say for sure.

that does make things harder. writing new drivers probably wouldnt be worth it, among other things. that is, unless the developer really wanted that port
When I was on my GNex, I don't remember any Sense/TouchWiz/Blur ROMs, at least not functional.

None of the ports would ever get into a useable state or be a fully functional daily driver.
It's easier to have a samsung/htc/whatever and go cyanogenmod when you want the closest-to-stock feel, and you'd also have variations of stock roms (sense, tw..).
I don't think the situation was different in the galaxy nexus forum than it is now here, but i do remember that every once in a while threads about how "all roms are the same" would pop up.
And a last point, i don't get this flashing habbit. There's nothing wrong in sticking to 1 rom for a long time, it only means it's stable and it has all the features you actually use/need. *It's a phone, not a toy, if you're bored during your days maybe it's time to find a hobby or maybe start dating or smth. , or just get another non nexus phone and use it to satisfy your flashoholic needs with buggy ports.

PIE? Halo? Just a couple off the top of my head.
I would rather have stable and new innovations rather then buggy and every option CM can add thrown at me. Hence why I own a Nexus.
Don't forget Ubuntu Phone, that's pretty far from an AOSP ROM. Most other phones besides Galaxy Nexus don't even have a usable port of this.

It happens.
On Moto forums people cry for sense ROM. On HTC forums people cry for touch wiz. On Samsung forums people cry for MotoBlur.
(This may or may not be real but when I was in the moto section before there were so many threads asking for a Sense port)

I would love a perfectly functioning sense rom for the nexus 4 but I highly doubt that will ever happen. Then again the reason I bought this phone was not to have manufacturer and carrier restrictions like the other ones do.

As a former Nexus S 4G and GNex owner, I agree with him. I don't flash roms anymore because I'm bored with them. I picked up another Nexus phone because I know from experience that Nexus phones push the limits of android, and I just don't feel that about the N4. I'm very thankful for all the devs that are out there, but most of the ROMs coming out for the N4 are large group roms (PA, CM10.1, AOKP) and are not made specifically for our device. ROMs that are made specifically for our device lack diversity.
With the HTC Evo 4G I was trying every ROM out there, and when ICS was released I was on the cutting edge with it, and upgraded to the NS4G because of the way it handled ICS. I then switched all over the place looking for more speed and stability, eager to try out every new feature. Then came the GNex, with Jelly Bean first being released, it was again an adventure of trying new things and having an active development community building for it.
The Nexus 4...I don't know. Other than aesthetics I don't think it's as good of a phone for me as the GNex was. The same core of ROMs run on both phones, but the Galaxy Nexus had a lot more storage.
I still like my phone, but I almost feel like I lost a hobby.
In response to the "get a hobby / start dating" comment. I'm married, work a ton, and have a few hobbies, but I still liked tinkering with my phone during my free evenings.
Yeah, where's all the 13 y/o developers (jk) who used to use the kitchen to make cute roms with custom everything (fonts wallpapers bootanimations dialer you name it) and really stand behind the ROM . As much as other big respectable devs who build from source like to ridicule them, I actually really miss them.
I see illusion ROM kinda doing it right now for the nexus 4 and love it. hopefully more come for us...

you have a point....but stock android with optimization is what most people download the roms for and get nexus 4 in first place (for many ppl)

Well you said it, galaxy nexus had jelly bean. There were no big updates during the era of the nexus 4, but give it a bit of time till KLP (or whatever it's gonna be called) arrives, none of those buggy touchwiz or sense roms will interest you. Oh and it's gonna be exclusive to a few devices (nexus line and GE phones)

I'd rather have developers pushing the boundaries of AOSP (so everyone can enjoy them) than investing time in a proprietary and in the end, lackluster result compared to the stock experience.
Unless the device is a direct relative, you won't see a good port of any OEM firmware.
I believe stock has a great level of quality and that can be seen on the polls, most people using pure stock.
Also we have great Roms that build upon AOSP and our device is first party supported (see PA). With features like HALO, privacy controls and others, they are delivering great improvements across all devices.
In the end, if you want the best AOSP experience, get a Nexus.
If you want the best Touchwiz experience, get S4.
If you want the best Sense experience, get One.
Etc.
If you really need a OEM overlay, I guess you have the wrong device, friend.

I just installed PA with HALO to try to prove my thoughts wrong, and there's really no way to get rid of HALO? It's annoying and intrusive, I absolutely hate it, and it just sits there. I went to hide it, and it still just sits on the edge of my screen. Gah! It makes me claustrophobic. I realize that this isn't a popular opinion as everybody raves about HALO, but I can't stand it.

Same here, I couldn't stand it for more than 5 minutes when I tried it. I even tried to like the whole pie craze, but after 2 days I got sick of swiping to use the navigation buttons, it just felt like extra work. I mean don't get me wrong the PA team are absolute geniuses at what they do, but it just wasn't for me.
