The race is on. Samsung vs. Developers. - Vibrant General

Our development team who has been assigned to the vibrant seem to have stalled out on interest in porting CM over to our beloved vibrant. I wonder if Samsung will actually release 2.2 before the developers.
Just curious if anyone knows why its moving along so slowly.
I was really hoping to see more fanfare over the vibrant being such a fabulous piece of hardware.
And with that being said.... those who live to rip someone to shreds for talking such blasphemy.... lemme have it.

If you offer to bankroll their efforts, they might be able to allocate more of their time to Vibrant development.

It's moving slowly since the Cyan devs are still working on the MT3GS. All the supplies (I think) are in place since Wes (The Cyan developer for this phone) got a phone to work on.

I am just being patient and know that it will be all worth it when it does eventually gets ported over.

Samsung said "End of September" which really mean "at the earliest." I have little doubt the CM6 team will have a ROM out long before then.

^^ this is correct, once the slide is done we should see some progress :]

in all honesty, if i was them i would wait. Do all the prep work that is necessary and just wait for Samsung to release the 2.2 source to mod from, it would make it that much easier and more compatible.
I say that fully expecting Samsung not to change anything and that means leaving root/clockwork being super easy to implement. Now should that change, then the prep work is done, just have to get cooking

Wes is a fabulous dev. (kicked him some funds back in the G1 dev days.
I think he should toss that slide to the. Curb and work on a real phone.

Plus one on this. The phones got awesome specs to work with. I wish I knew how..lol but ill still try and be patient ...
I could have sworn the evo had roms after a month.. were no where near close to that time frame....

I still don't think Wes should of called that if he got extra donation money for his "laptop" he would purchase a Vibrant and dev for it if he wasn't going to be doing it right away. Since that did kind of help people who has a Vibrant donate for his laptop. I'm glad that there are other talents out there coming into the Vibrant community though.
Saw bbuchacher, justanotherdev, eugene coming along. Hopefully everything will fall into pieces in the upcoming month. And yeah I don't even think myTouch Slide is even popular at all, so iono. Not trying to be impatient or "cry" about it but just speaking justification point of view. Just my 2 cents.

I think most of you guys need to just chill out. Im no where close to being a dev and almost every mod I did on my G1 i've flashed, if you're in the same boat, then definitely need to stop questioning developemnt. If you read closer, or really followed the updates from the other threads, devs and twitter updates you'd see that there is more going on.
Now I can be completely wrong with this, but here is what im getting out of what the current status of Vibrant development is:
-The MTS is currently "first in line" to be caught up to CM6
-The MTS was/is having problems running CM6 being "stable", even with the phone still being manufactured by HTC and Cyanogen working along with side with the devs assigned to it
-Eugene, JAC and others have started to breakdown and develop the Vibrant
-JAC has been asked to merge his work to Github....
Make your conclusions... Donate... Start deving... Shut up... Remember no dev owes you anything.
EDIT: Donation- an act or instance of presenting something as a gift, grant, or contribution... usually not tied to any personal gain.

I keep seeing the "Don't worry when CM6 hits it will be amazing. Don't worry when CM6 comes it will fix the problem."
HTC and Samsung are very different animals. Devs have come and gone as well.
Motorola
HTC
Samsung
You tell me why its going to take so long or be a bit slower? It takes time and there simply has to be a lot of interest from the dev and the users.
I'm just kicking back watching and hoping for the best.

Last time I checked his Twitter, Dell is taking forever to get his laptop to him as he did some customization to the configuration... Dell took over a month to get my mom her laptop when she changed a few options.

Took me over 2 months for Dell to build a laptop actually, I'm never buying from Dell again.
Still saying, there was a forum thread on the Development forum saying to donate to Wes to get the Vibrant and all that. Kind of a deceiving, im not impatient whatsoever.
Wes still has access to a computer, I believe and is coding for the Slide so it's not like he doesn't have a computer.
I understand that it would look bad on his part if he bailed on the Slide like that. There could of been better outcomes if a developer who was primarily dedicated to porting CM6 to the Vibrant from the very beginning rather than as a secondary objective.
wesgarner and Scepterr are the developers assigned to the Samsung Galaxy S.
I just donated $25. Donate and lets get this phone off the ground.
Thanks for the donations Wes has his Vibrant coming and soon his laptop. Great Job!!

There are a few already in the development forum. Not sure if any of them are "Teamdouche" but none the less they are devs. JAC already said "I'll be moving my stuff to Github upon request" and "As long as I'm credited for my work you can use it."

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!
what a bunch of cry babies don't worry the Vibrant's turn will come, its definitely a good platform worth doing **** to, a few little things here and there are messed up with the phone but its nothing that hasn't already been addressed.
just be patient, you have to remember that its not like it used to be. Its not just the G1 anymore its a **** load of Android phones with their own issues and with a bunch of cry baby owners just like you lol
the day XDA goes away is the day all of you guys will pull all your hair out. the phones been out for a couple weeks and to be honest i dont think the Galaxy S line sold as well as a lot of other high end devices (EVO,Droid X) so of course devs are gonna go where the masses are.
You think we have it bad? go look at the Captivate section of XDA, they dont have ****, no cases, no roms and out of the Galaxy S line we actually have a decent amount of little morphs and fixes to get us by for now. Be patient dont give up
if you built it they will come

we'l c wut happens lol

I am by no means complaining and am not at all a developer. just a happy android user and rom flasher I just came from MT3G.
I know the Vibrant is new, but with a Galaxy being released on all 4 major carriers, I am honestly surprised a bunch of developers have not jumped all over the Vibrant and Captivate that are out with the 2 others expected soon...I mean this is basically the first time that I know of that virtually the same phone is being released on all 4 US carriers! it seems like a developers dream. are the US galaxy's just still too new?
Going along with that, when Dev start making Roms for US Galaxys, will basically all the same Roms easily run on all 4 US Galaxy variants? basically will they just need some very minor tweaking bc the same hardware? (except for qwerty version)? or will there have to be major modding with the same rom between the different US variants? (if very little tweaking is needed, that is why it seems to me that the US galaxy S versions would be so appealing to dev's)
Lastly, even though ive not rooted mine yet, (mt3g was rooted for the past year), I am looking forward to CM6 like everyone else. But it seems thats mostly what I have seen talked about is CM6. no doubt that the CM team are at the top of the game, but what about developers bringing other Roms too, for example Sense? I am just wondering why most seem to just talk about wanting CM6 when there are tons of other developers and other Roms (coming from my experience with g1/mt3g)?
I know this was a long post, but these topics have been on my mind lately. what do you guys think to any of my thoughts/questions posted above?

The phones haven't even been out a month, give it time. They're drastically different from the HTC setup that most devs are used to, so there is a steep learning curve that needs to be tackled. Also the devs have more then one phone on their plate. They should focus on what they started first before taking on another project, so I expect them to get the slide where it needs to be before starting on the galaxy s.

Guys, we have a custom kernel. That was a huge step. There is significant progress here. JACs kernel is on rev2. We have other good devs outside of the main CM team looking at things as well. Give them some time, this is a whole new way of doing things, they are having to learn how Samsung does stuff. I honestly think we will see a custom AOSP 2.2 before Samsung releases their custom one.

Thats because someone needs to step up to start working on CM for the fascinate just because its out doesn't mean that they will make a rom for it.Noobnl over in the Epic forums took the reins and is working on CM for the Epic.
Koush tweeted a while back that he will be porting CM for the Fascinate.

Porting seems to either A) render the port useless with the Fascinate or B) takes an extremely long amount of time because of A.
Hopefully something will come soon.
Hopefully we will see some clean and Google filled ROMS soon. I for one would gladly donate to the cause. The fascinate is a great device hardware wise and could really use the help of Cyanogen or Bugless Beast. If anybody has any insight on the matter could you post it here or start a new thread? It was my assumption that they were waiting on an opportunity to develop for 2.2 i/o dealing with 2.1 because of the kernel situation. I am a noob so correct me if I'm wrong here...
For starters Cyanogen himself does not support any device he himself doesn't own. Secondly CyanogenMOD is a rather large Dev team and many of those devs port CyanogenMOD to their devices, also its hard to get CyanogenMOD support for the Fascinate if the CM team doesn't have one or two to work with. You could try making a donation to the CM team specifically for a Fascinate so they can start development. Also as stated before Koushik Dukutta will be porting CM6 once we get a 2.2 kernel source. So as usual just be patient, everything takes time remember how long before the Droid got CM? Development is coming along so we must be patient if we ourselves can't help development move along swimmingly, like myself so I just donate to help the Devs out.
Holding out doing anything with my Fascinate until CyanogenMod comes out for it. How will CyanogenMod work with voodoo?
It will most likely use an EXT4 partition by default so there will be no need for Voodoo. Their forum has a Galaxy S FAQ as it applies to CyanogenMod.
As was already stated, the Vibrant is first. They believe porting to the other Galaxy S variants will be quick after that. We can only hope, donate, and wait.
Let's hope somebody with the required skills and a Fascinate joins the dev team.

I am debating on giving up my beloved Droid Inc today to a new employee and taking over the Fascinate that I ordered for them... Looking forward to CM for sure, here's hoping that Koush or someone similar will take up the Fascinate builds of CM...
I am assuming all of this will be hinging on a good kernel source for froyo hitting.
choices choices...
I think im going to return my fascinate. I had hoped there would be solid support for this phone but it doesnt seem so. Koush tweeted a SUPRISE but never said exactly what he was working on.
Its a shame because hardware wise this is the best android phone right now.

Ok guys. AOSP roms are being worked on, but to be honest, there are only 2 people really working on development on this phone right now. There are some more devs that are learning the system and such and trying to get things working, but it will take some time.
CyanogenMod wasnt on the droid 1 for around 5 months, and at the time it was Koush just doing experimental ports. We will get AOSP on this phone, just be patient. We had a huge hang up on the kernel source, but now that we have that all sorted out, and birdman is joining in on the development, we should have it soon

If you're that stupid then please go ahead, so we don't have to listen to your *****ing on this board anymore. I get so sick and tired of people complaining about lack of support and how long everything is taking. Seriously people, have some patience. the phone has barely been out a month and already we have Root, Clockworkmod Recovery, Custom Theme's, AOSP apps, and an awesome Voodoo Lagfix. And all of that is on top of Samsung releasing source code that didn't work. Our amazing dev team was able to overcome that and more that almost no one on this forum is even aware of. Instead of donating time and money to encourage these guys, you waste time complaining about what you don't have. Just get your WP7 phone and take your impatience over to their forum.

I agree... heck on the Inc we didn't have root for months and months... You guys are way ahead of where the Inc was at the same time frame. Patience is key... it really seems like this phone is going to rock. I'm really torn on giving my Dinc over to a co worker and taking the new fascinate due to the development, but I know its coming.
as someone who trolls for info, doesn't contribute/dev (referring to myself), I agree. from what I've been reading, sounds like only a few are contributing with lots of folks benefitting. There's no way anyone should be complaining.
BTW, thanks to all for the work you've done and are doing. right now my contribution (at this point) is to read the info and if I have questions, read some more to find the answers. 99% of the time the question/problem has already been addressed...just takes a "little" effort to find it!
Look at the huge fanbase for CM from original Droid owners- Cyanogen had little or nothing to do with that. It was all Koush.

Im quite sure if you go back over koushs tweets, or look in the CM forum it states he will do a port soon as the offical 2.2 is released. As always..he works from base, clean files. So I am willing to bet we see something after the infamous 2.2 comes around.
Koush has specifically said that he is waiting for Froyo to be released on the Galaxy S/Fascinate before even starting to port. Official Froyo. He needs the drivers, Kernel source, etc.
It's not like you can just make an AOSP ROM based on 2.2 out of thin air. You need the right tools.
If you're all that motivated, start coding. Otherwise, be patient. Incessant whining isn't going to make a dev who does this in his/her free time work any harder. If anything, it might turn them off.
If you look at the git repository you'll see that there hasn't been development on éclaire in months (since July). All development is being done on the Froyo branch.
Don't expect CyanogenMod until we get Froyo.
BTW, instead of being so impatient and making threads here, read through their info on the CM website. It has a wealth of information. If you want to see who's working on what then look at the git commits.

[Q] XPrize: Get Gingerbread on Fascinate? GREEN LIT!

Hey guys,
I'm feeling rather enterprising at the moment. The question is, what would it take to get a clean/stock/aosp version of Gingerbread up and running for the Verizon Fascinate? Could an XPrize style reward work? If so how much would it need to be? $1000? less? A LOT MORE? Thoughts? PLEASE ANYBODY, THOUGHTS? I need replys from devs and non-devs... If there is enough interest we could easily setup a prize fund and have it auto-refund people if the prize was not attained within a given time frame...anybody?
/Andrew
UPDATE 1: I'm totally gonna set this up! See my latest post (pg.4) for more details and new questions.
UPDATE 2:
(1) Money is the strongest motivating force that we can use.
(2) Refunds will be available should you change your mind about supporting the XPRIZE.
(3) Waiting for an official release is futile. They are MONTHS behind on a Froyo release, and we will all likely have new phones with HoneyComb before we get gingerbread through official channels.
(4) The CDMA radio is understandable the biggest obstacle, money should at least get people to work more aggressively to fix this or pursue a leak.
(5) beg, borrow, steal, i want a true google experience with the ability to RULE THE AIR, on verizon.
"Can you hear me now?"
come on guys, i can tell this is getting a few views, just add a quick reply and say, that you think this a good or bad idea...please
Sounds appealing, but I don't think this is the ideal phone developers would want to spend time on. I'm using this phone simply as a bridge to the Nexus S.
i can understand the nexus S appeal, but i imagine there are many people who wouldn't want to leave Verizon. In fact i ditched my iphone not only because Steve Jobs is a prick, but more importantly because Verizon has a much better network...

Oh, and it looks like you may not even have a Sansung Fascinate...on verizon...which is the phone i am posting about. Most of the Galaxy S variants are GSM/HSPA phones, the fascinate is a CDMA/EVDO phone and seems to be not benefit as much from the development on the other variants because of its different modem/radio. This is why i think we (verizon facinate owners) need to put some incentives out there...
I like the idea, just not sure how viable it actually is.

Would gladly donate a few bucks for that sweet Gingerbread..
It's a nice idea but I don't think it'll go. We don't even have a working port of 2.2 yet, nor AOSP of 2.2 running on this device... Would I like to see some gingerbread goodness? Why heck yes, but do I think it's possible...? Nope. Best just to wait for OTA release and modify it I say...
...Yes I know with samsungs history we wont see that until android 5.1 but that's besides the point!
I would gladly donate sounds like a good idea if we can make it happen
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Good idea sure
Although I have not done any really really heavy dev work for the platform, I think this is more a question on feasibility. Would I kick in for it sure, breaking totally free of the VZW\Samsung cycle would be great. However without some support or "leaks" making everything work would be a monumental task. At least if I understand the methodology.
i'd give at least $30 towards this..
I'm not going to say its not possible....but more like its not probable. It might get some money hungry devs on the fascinate though (ultimatedroid), so it cant be too bad. Well talk is cheap as they say.... So start the xPrize and see what happens...the worse thing that could happen is probably nothing gets done.
And i apologize right now in advance.... but this doesnt belong in this forum.... lol... i had to. im sorry.
Being a dev, I have to say its more trouble than its worth.
First we'd have to hack up at LEAST the .32 kernel and get froyo running. Without the froyo kernel source, its more of a pain than anything. Getting the system running to be compatible is no where near as hard as Getting the kernel.. That's something different.
I don't know what would be involved in making something like this happen, but I'd throw $50 at it.
Considering we don't have a fully working build of AOSP 2.1, I can't see this happening. Maybe if there is better source released for 2.2 when it gets here it will be easier, but I feel like if that happens, then devs would work on it anyway.
I don't think people realize that we've had aosp froyo all along. What we don't have is our driver specific kernel. We'll have gingerbread the day it becomes available but that doesn't mean anything as we won't have kernel again at the release.
@op you want us build up from the ground like we did with milestone? NONE of us will go through that hell again ever. $1000? haha that amount is nothing considering what we would put in if we were to build it up from the ground again.

i have seen a prize work
a little history
my first smart phone was the VZ 6900 aka the HTC vogue
a windows mobile 6 phone that never had an "official" Rom or Kernel for android and yet the dev were able to not only build a fully working android 2.2 including getting all drivers to work, and as we speak those same vogue dev are now working on 2.3 builds, mind you i am not a dev and but i know this took a lot of work but a prize is what got the team moving and i would give $20 or more if we could get this going
So among poll responders most non-dev USERS would be willing to contribute some money towards this. Good news, but with only two responders claiming to be developers it's hard to say whether we could really get the interest of developers...perhaps i should PM some people? who are the big shot developers in these parts?

Gingerbread and MT4G

MT4G is on its way, but I'm still hanging on to N1 - great phone with huge development support.
Hardware-wise MT4G is a superior phone to N1, but apart from that I'll be missing a lot from the development community. When will we see gingerbread, or soon to be unveiled honeycomb (Mar 2011?)... There is just so little going on with MT4G on the development side, I wonder why...

I can't wait for some love like the n1. I miss mine solely for the multiple choices of roms. Can't wait for something running 2.3 and putting the mt4g at its full potential. I'll be so happy.
we have 4 different roms (counting both DHD roms as 1) MIUI, CM, Iced, DHD and the phone hasn't been out that long, I think we are fine development wise. At least for now

I think I may actually take it easy on you so listen up. The phone has been out for what, maybe a month? The N1, well, Feb-Dec means 11 months. Yes, the N1 has a TON of development but it did not when it first dropped (I ordered one on release day). The N1 actually took a couple of months for true development. Hell, it was at least 4 months before we could even wake the stupid thing with the trackball. Anyways, just letting you know, development takes time. It's not like the developers have tons of money to waste on EVERY phone that comes out and tons of time to develop for them.
P.S. I still have my N1 that I mess with every day!
You're crazy if you think that development for this phone is "slow". It's been out less than 60 days and already has several viable roms. Honestly, take a chill pill and have some patience.
On the other hand, I know what it's like to be impatient I've been checking the forums compulsively to look for signs of gingerbread roms on the horizon. CM7 is shaping up quite nicely. They have everything worked out except that when you're recording a video it chops off the last few seconds. CANNOT WAIT!!!
In conclusion, Merry Christmas, and stick around the MT4G is a fantastic phone and has some super devs behind it.
I see no sense in these threads.
With eViL, Zink , grankin01, Gr8gorilla, teamsilence...think thats most of them, for the MT4G to be where its at in such a short time I say hats off to em.
Lets be like some of the other forums on XDA where they turn into demanding little pricks that act utterly ungrateful...or be thankful for what we get and shut it..
I think the development is moving at an awesome pace and will only get better over time. Hopefully some Devs got a MT4G today

And since the devs just got these phones in the last 2 weeks, and we already have 4 fully functioning roms.... Id say have some damn patience.
Agreed, we have seen a lot of progress given the short time the phones been out. But I don't think there needs to be repeated posts saying "have some damn patience." OP probably got the message the first time. If you're not adding to the conversation its probably better to give your typing fingers a rest. Otherwise you're just contributing to the cancerous ignorance that turns us against each other.

I think progress has been great considering the phones only been out a couple weeks! N1 took several months. I say hats off to the devs their work is great.

How to uninstall the gingerbread theme from epic 4g
I tried to install the new gingerbread theme for my epic 4g, and I accidentally installed it twice, and now my phone is trying to run it, but since it was installed twice, it is forcing all of my applications closed. Is there any way I can go into my phone and uninstall the theme, and reinstall properly? Please advise

Are the best vibrant development days behind us?

I cant help but feel that they are. With projects being abandoned left and right, I feel as if the domino effect is starting to take place. Devs are getting "bored" therefore us end users start jumping ship also. Then more devs leave etc etc. Feels like that process has begun. I, like many have put my phone up on craigslist in hopes of getting something better with a more active community around it. I do not want to sound ungrateful to the dev s that we do have. They have made my phone what I love today. But I can't help but feel like even the remaining ones have lost passion and drive for this phone.
I can't help but feel that the escalating high school drama over the past few weeks due to little or no moderation has been the tipping point for devs to leave and move on. I can only hope that someone high enough puts a plug in the dam before its too late and it all comes crashing down and no amount of money or resources can synthetically create the magic we already have now. Here is hoping.

I kind of expected this. I love this phone, but if I really have to, I will trade it. I hope that CM7 is finished for the Vibrant, then everything would be fine.
Sent from Vibrant with CM7.
It could seem that way, but lets be real here for a minute.
There are a few devs who decided to stop working on the vibrant. More specifically , decided to stop posting their work here on XDA. Mostly because of the drama that starts in here and the lack of appreciation that is given to them for their "FREE" work.
But, and here's my main point, there are still MANY devs who have never spoken about leaving and are continuing to bring us great mods and roms. We have entire teams of devs like Team Whiskey and Eienharjar Developement Team who still continue to work on great things for our phones. Not to mention people who make mods consistantly. Supercurio, Morphic, etc etc.
It's just a few people who decided it's not fun anymore and are moving on. It doesn't mean the END ALL BE ALL of Vibrant development. I think we should stop dwelling on the drama of a few people who on their own decided to leave and still support those that are STILL here to help us.
Technology moves fast. Newer things come out and some people just get bored fast and get tired of the mudslinging.
Be appreciative to the devs and supporters that are still here, still making things, and still helping us with our questions. Android is an OPEN SOURCE PROJECT. People come... people go. But don't get caught up in the politics of some. Support those that stay. But don't forget those that left a huge impact on Android and this modding community.
I love Android. I love the community, and understand I have to deal with some disrespectful kids/noobs/adults.
Thank you to all who stick around and help us out, and good luck to those who went on to better or more phone projects.

Unless CM7 is near final and it can be used as a stable base, then we will be stuck with the same roms probably as all are based on Samsung's source. The reason the G2 has such large development is due to the large amounts of stable roms, MIUI, CM, and a a stock rom( which we do have).
And with the leaving of Eugene, the Vibrant is basically starting to sink. Those new to these forums may not remember, but he has contributed many stable roms in the past and greatly contributed to the startup on development. We will miss you Eugene!
A galaxy s merger was what I proposed in the previous forums where some international and US developers may contribute to each other's work in a seperate forum dedicated to devs.
don't forget that eugene was the one who made I9000 roms to be perfectly port to vibrant. He said hw will be posting his one final rom in the future.

Yup. Development may seem to be slowing but lets not forget that we have an whole other i9000 dev forum to choose ROMs from. Especially while they are mostly 2.2.1 ROMs. That'll prolly change (at least for a while) once all the i9000 devs abandon 2.2.1 for gingerbread.
Not every phone will have the lifespan of the g1, hd2, etc... But one can hope lol.
Even the Nexus One development is slowing down with only small updates to previous roms. Guess even their devs are moving.
Lucky me that I have a hd2.
Was considering getting one of those Hd2 for all the development around it but I can't help but feel like it would be a step down.

I feel like that this is what we are lacking now. Eugene was a master and helped and had a hand in over half the roms on this forum. He was able to solve alot of problems that no one else can/could. I feel like without someone of this caliber spearheading the way, its almost impossible to keep development going strong and not baby steps.

Not everyone feels the need to upgrade every 6 months to a year, especially when the new dual cores don't provide a huge difference than the hummingbird chip + voodoo in daily use (maybe 3 second gain in web browsing). With android 2.2.1, the galaxy s touchwiz launcher and browser use gpu acceleration, so it will be just as smooth (if you don't believe me use a live wallpaper on the twlauncher, then use it on launcherpro).
However, tegra 2 will set the new standard, so our power sgx 540 will do just fine for the next year (comparable performances).

Yes to an extent. There are alot of phones that are years old and still have development. I understand that they probably are not samsung and probably have all of the source code. But to me, it seems that this phone has not even reached the pinnacle of what it can do. Alot of roms (bionix exempt) are still trying to just get everything working a 100%. Having a phone really becomes a ton of fun when the development gets past just making it all work. It's really a shame if this will never be possible because of samsungs code.

Being that the vibrant was a high end phone when it was released, it still stands up to alot of the newer phones. To leave this phone behind just because it's getting "old" (less than a year is old for cell phone nowadays = bull****), is stupid.
Maybe devs should spend some time porting the Nexus S APIs so as to provide a good base for future roms.
And in the end, I have to admit that if you want fast updates, go Windows Phone, or IOS if you are really desperate.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I've seen us lose basically two significant development projects.
Meanwhile we retain several equivalent kernel devs, multiple ongoing rom development projects, progress on CM7, and a slowly building flood of ports from the i9000 dev community.
Furthermore we're finally to a point where this is less about stamping out annoyances with Samsung's lackluster tuning and poor choices, and more about customization and the tailoring of experiences.
i.e. there's less to be ecstatic about, but only because things are no longer fundamentally broken and because development has matured.
My take is that these are good and evolutionary developments. You also have to remember that developers cater to their own whims as much as ours, and it's entirely normal for them to "move on". This is what happens when a community is dynamic and HEALTHY.
I've been on the net longer than most here have been alive, and trolls will always be trolls. If you're expecting the high school drama and angst to vanish entirely in a constantly churning public forum such as this you have unrealistic expectations.
All is well!
Thats a different way of looking at it master, interesting.
While I somewhat agree with this thread, I'd say give the other devs some time, like maybe a month and see what they come up with, we might get a Gingerbread port or a leak from GS4G. Team Whiskey and EDT will surely come up with something I believe.
Also, I don't understand the craze about HD2, it was a great phone in its time, now if you want ROMS and active dev section, probably better to get Nexus S or wait for Optimus 3D I am sure it'll be sold like hot cakes when it comes out.

Hell yeah! Let's hear it for us old farts! I've been on the web since Windows 95. A very scary thought. I actually started with a commodore 64 and it's Gigantic floppy disk drive. When I look back at those days, the worst rom on here is blazing fast and bug free!

Want to start a #PleaseShareYourSourceCode for the #Vibrant #Samsung

So have been thinking. As we did a pretty good #NeverAgain campaign way back to get Froyo to our Vibrants we could try a new approach.
We may be waiting for Samsung and T-mobile to come out with Gingerbread for the our Vibrants. I don't know what the chances for this is. But if they are planning on retiring the Vibrant (or already have) than there shouldn't be anything that keeps Samsung from releasing the sourcecode for the Vibrant. The good press that Samsung would get by releasing the source code (and I'm talking about the kernel) for the Vibrant, can be tremendous. If they are not planning on using it, than great if they release the source. If they do plan on releasing it, but also hand it over to the developers like the CM team, how much more grateful will we be as their power user group.
Keeping on the developers good side should be important for Samsung and the other manufacturers, as that also leads to a very happy power user group. Which in turn refers their products to their friends and families.
So just checking to see what the interest would be for us people that are left with the Vibrant would be involved in making a campaign like this to succeed?

But yes its pointless to do that, once something is used with success it won't touch the crowd the same/losses its meaning

I agree. The first campaign worked because it was something new and half way legitimate. If they are working on GB for us, a year after release, I don't think we have much ground to complain. Not that you can't, feel free, but now people are starting to hit the down hill slope of looking forward to their next upgrade.
Just my opinion.
Edit: I am 'tarded
The Vibrant is powerful enough to maintain a long lifespan. There really are only about 2 phones I'd consider a strong enough upgrade to even consider jumping ship.
Ice Cream Sandwich isn't far away. Since it's meant to work on all devices (phones, tablets, pc's, etc)... I really hope drivers aren't the reason I can't use this phone for long time to come..
Well, that and AT&T. BOO.
As much as we love this phone it won't live forever. We can't beg for every update

I know we can't ask for the update. Don't really care. But we know they are sitting on the code and if they are not planning on giving us GB at least they could give us the code. Especially the kernel so that CM can get a perfectly working CM7 for the Vibrant.

The problem is that if it's not finished (which is very likely) and we use the code a lot of misinformed people will complain about how we were given buggy code. Then the conspiracy theorists will assume that Samsung sabotaged the code just to get people to hate their phones and want to buy a new one.
All of this will go back to Samsung and they will be labeled as bad for not knowing how to program, or hurting development, or being evil, or ...
Perfect world they could just make all their code transparent for us all to see as soon as it happens, but they would rather be like every other company and hold out on giving out source until they feel it is ready than risk being hurt by trying to help out.
If the code was finished they would be pushing for an update. I doubt they have anything complete for the vibrant.
