[Info]Galaxy S4 is coming ...don't go for any other phone. - Galaxy S II General

According to an article in Korea times ...s4 will be released in Feb 2013...so most of us who did not upgrade to galaxy s3 should wait about 6 more months to get the most powerful beast in our hands...
http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/tech/2012/09/133_120024.html

This is to destroy the so fana iphone 5 benchmark im sure ,! But please not too big Samsung !

If they go for anything larger than the S3 they can forget about me buying that.
S3's size is utterly ridiculous (can't find many people who can 100% interact with it with only one hand), anything larger that that will be just sad.
Only thing left is to pray to the electronics god that Google makes their next Nexus in the size of the current one / S2's! can't imagine a better phone size, bigger than the tiny iPhone (yea, talking about the new fella) but easy to play with using one hand only.
if only the'll be able to also make it Super AMOLED Plus (like the S2's non-PenTile, but with S3's resolution).

S4 might not have a screen larger than S3 since the current size distinction gives proper difference between the S and Note lines. If size goes beyond 4.8 will impact sales of either of them.

The more I use my S2..the more I feel it's the perfect size. I had a GNex for a bit and it was just a tad too wide. I think something the size of the s2 with a edge to edge screen would be great.

Yeah then we wait for the S5 next year :banghead: and S6 the year after that

S4? U kidding they have to dump a huge number of S3 into market.. After huge success of this they ll plan for S3 with Dual sim then when competitors move to hexa core or jump into 2GB RAM then they start S4 may be,,
My wishlist for S4-
1. Quad core 2GHZ preferably Tegra 3 .
2. 2GB RAM with nVidia GPU.
3. 4.3" Super AMOLED HD display with 720*1280 res (Enough )
4. Design of S2 is must( Best designed phone)
5. Aluminum casing for back cover with S logo.
6. 12 MP camera carl zeiss.. (Nokia Fan)

This is the I9100 forum. Spam somewhere else, or even better, not at all.

May I ask, why Nvidia GPU? I should say that most benchmarks say that our mali-400mp4 clocked at 266mhz is just as powerful as the full clocked tegra 3 gpu variant, plus we have a much lower resolution screen than any tegra 3 powered deice I have ever seen, meaning our device can end up playing better games that quite a few of the devices with the tegra chip in it. Like with full effects enabled on dead trigger, it is so much smoother than my nexus 7 with it's gpu overclocked from 416mhz to 520mhz. Personally I would take the overclocked 440mhz mali-400mp4 in the s3 anyday over any nividia GPU. Althoug, the gpu going to be used in some of the new exynos 5 chips which should power the s4, looks incredible.

Pfff......The exynos 4212 and MALI 400MP still kicks tegra 3 a** and the S4 will have a exynos 5250 with mali t604 which is a total BEAST.

Because I saw my friends Nexus 7 which played dead trigger more finely and smoother(Even mine was smoother ) so i thought tegra would be nice. Is S4 confirmed?

Like I give a ****.
Seriously, the longer I wait for Jelly Bean, the more I want a Nexus.
Besides that I hope they won't make the screen any bigger. Otherwise we'll run around with 11" smartphones and 17" tablets very soon.

Dead trigger is optimized from tegra 3 and the mali400 in s2 is a bit weaker from terga 3's gpu

Ya ur rite S2 is the Best screen size which fits perfectly in hand.. mainly robust Tablets max 10"

well samsung wants to keep a one year product schedule so its not news, but this reports states the phone will be 5 inches from 4.8, i wonder if the note will be bigger

According to Sammobile latest news, Samsung denied an S IV release in february or march. Link from source: http://sammyhub.com/2012/09/18/samsung-debunks-galaxy-s-iv-rumor/. Another link is http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_responds_to_galaxy_s_iv_rumors_debunks_them-news-4819.php

If someone released a 4inch Nexus with good hardware and a solid build I'd be all over it like a rash.
Instead the phones are getting too big and too ugly. I've never had an iPhone but I can see the appeal. You invest in an iPhone 5 now and you're guaranteed long term software support and your device maintains its value. I'm sick of all these phones coming out that feel outdated and forgotten in 6 - 12 months. Who do you hear saying "don't buy an iphone 5 the iphone 6 is coming out next year".

Sadly you're kinda right.
I've already made my decision. My next phone will be a Nexus, period.
I could forgive the longer wait for updates, if I'd actually use them. At the moment the only reason I'm waiting for updates is because the cm team can make a proper one with those.
There is only one manufacturer that does great modifications to android, but those phones aren't available here. :'(

Quad core Note possibly

http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/25/samsung-announces-1-4ghz-exynos-4-quad-as-basis-for-galaxy-s3/
Looks like Samsung could easily update the Note by swapping the CPU chip.
Maybe even get aftermarket updates to existing Notes?
ill take 2gbs of ram too
Hmm ill take dual quads plz
Skickat från min GT-N7000 via Tapatalk 2
I don't see any reason to switch to a device with that SoC. It uses an overclocked Mali-400 which we can achieve on our Note and the quad core thing is null as most apps don't support more than 2 cores. I would much rather prefer the Exynos 5 series which uses dual A15 chips and the superior Mali T604.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA HD app.
lol.....you are just assembling smartphone
I would like to have 4 GB ram. 320 GB sd card. 2 GHz quadcore.
And laser gun like in bond movies.
well the current quadcore also seem to be a little bit warm... if samsung wanted to produce a galaxy note 2 they should wait till the quadcore-problems are away and spend a little bit more ram into our devices.
Indeed. same opinion.

how much would everyone pay to have that 'King of Notes' shown in the video?
It would be pretty fantastic if we could do an aftermarket mod, but I presume 1: its soldered to the motherboard. 2: You can't buy it separately.
If I could actually swap my current cpu for that cpu then hell yeah I wouldn't mind.
The stock battery should hold up pretty well, maybe bring it down a bit.
But if it costs over $150 then forget it, I'd rather wait for the Note 2, because the original note is godly, and i know for a fact that the note 2 will be as well.
Despite all the so called "problems" with the original note, i still love it!

Agreed. I'm in the stupid position of wondering if I should wait 6 months or so for that mythical Note 2 or just buy the current one next week. My Xperia Play is getting long in the tooth and I don't see a version 2 of it coming anytime soon.

You can either get it now, and when it comes out within the next month or two you'll regret it and beat yourself up over it
OR
Wait that month or two to get it, like in the Hindu culture, if you suffer now you will be rewarded later.
P.S. Sorry if i got the hindu culture wrong, i'm not indian.. im just a chinese person who lives in australia
or wait 1-2 months and find that it isnt even out

In your dreams is going to launch samsung the note 2 next month.
Basic market strategy
1- Launch a device at a time, if you launch more you are doing yourself competition, if you launch one now the other in 6 months a lot of users will replace the device every half year
2- Give the product a market life, launching a lot in little time will annoy your market base and you will lose customers.
We will see the first "leaks" on maybe September and a launch in November as the closest date as the galaxy 3 is already delayed comparing to the S2 "one year life"
And in other side, being the S3 hardware a minor upgrade with the same A9 (even if its quad), same gpu, same 1gb of ram, you will not lose a lot with the actual note hardware, in fact it could be worse if doesn't use physical buttons and steal of us real state of the screen to use in ****ty virtual buttons.
Yeah Kersh is right. It isn't going to happen in a couple of months. It will be (at earliest) around a year after the original note launched. So October-November time.
Also worried about them removing the physical buttons. Not sure if I want that or not. At least they might add a notification light...

hmm?
you do realise it is a normal galaxy note in that vid, dont you?
read the text at the bottom, it says exynos 4 dual. the chip in our notes is an exynos 4210, which is still technically an exynos 4.
samsung are following intel's tick-tock approach. theyre making a chip with the same core components as the previous chip to iron out all the bugs first (exynos 4212 is more or less the same as the exynos 4210 with a die shrink), and then they'll test out the quads on their new 32nm process to iron out the bugs. once theyve fixed the bugs and the process has matured a bit more, then they'll release the 'tock' step, exynos 5.
I would much more prefer Samsung tweak the os so our notes can do more things a netbook would be able to do.
no point to have quad core cpu atm, no appz uses even dual core so it is just for having higher benchmark test score ^^

There's also no evidence in the kernel sources of any new Note other than the Note 10.1 (which appears to be called "p4-note" in the I9100 update4 defconfigs) - which will be 4210 and not 4212.
It's hard to tell which devices that are getting 4x12 CPUs are getting updated dual and which are getting quad - the defconfigs all imply quad, however it looks like the code can automatically determine what it's running on at runtime and enable the extra cores if necessary without a kernel recompile.
I better wait for the new Note. If Note 2 (or maybe Note S) will be similar to Galaxy S3 quad core and 1,5GB-2GB RAM - I better wait for Note 3. I'm completely satisfied with the current device.

I don't think it's worth the wait and it doesn't seems THAT powerful for a "next-gen GPU" if you compare with the SG3 the scores are not that far ahead.
The fact that it's an LG turns me off....
Yeah, this, but it's not here yet and we still have to hear about power efficiency.
I'll never buy a LG again after owning the G2x.
S4 quad with an IPS / SLCD2 screen will be a winner if the battery life can be as good as the dual core version. The HOX should have had this instead of Tegra 3.

Lg sucks
I never liked LG phones
Eh I would get the GS3, the snapdragon S4 doesn't seem that much more powerful according to the benchmarks posted and LG aren't that bad, yes I am hating my low end GT540 but its done me for almost 2 years now, and the only problems (besides the terribly scratched screen) are because its a low end device, slow, OOM problems, insufficient storage problems, which is why I am moving to a high end phone now, learned my lesson with a low end one
I just sold my previous phone so am I ready for the GS3. Probably going to go for the GS3 and just wait until Sony catches up. My next phone after the GS3 will be the first Xperia flagship that doesn't have an outdated SOC and gingerbread. So I'll keep the GS3 until the Xperia S2 becomes the first smartphone to use the Qualcomm S5 and whatever OS that is after jelly bean.
Honestly, i was expecting much more of the quad krait and the Adreno 320. Remember that 320 it's the "next gen" GPU from Qualcomm while the GPU of the GS3 has more than year now.
Oh, and i get +12000 on antutu @ 1400 and 13558 @1600. I doubt the veracity of that thread.
Sure this may not be much of an upgrade for international users- but think about the US people like me. We are stuck with adreno 225 which is not nearly as good as the mali 400 AND the only upgrades in the gs3 from the gs2 (other than tw features) are a slightly more efficient processor and 1 gig extra of ram. Now i am not discounting this...but i what i am saying is that waiting for this new exynos processor may be worth the wait. Because samsung will HAVE TO make a phone to compete with lg. Maybe it will be like the skyrocket was to the galaxy s2. Thats why i am still not 100 percent sure i am getting the US galaxy s3.

edit:
looks like adreno 320 is not as good as expected. it just leaps ahead of mali 400.
The 2X certainly had its fair share of issues but you can't argue the development on that phone wasn't superb. I would definitely consider this phone if I was sure development would be good. Other than that I wouldn't touch it. Look at all the Nitro HD and Optimus 3D users left in the dark, and those phones aren't half bad at all.

If production starts end of this year, it will never make it by march. Most likely it will have the Exynos 5250 (Exynos 5 Dual) dual core 32nm 2.0Ghz. And you gotta understand Samsung's Galaxy S team is like the A-Team, and everything is secondary. So Most likely the 5450 won't be on the Galaxy Note 3 either. It will just have an overclocked 5250.
So if you're saying you're going to wait for the Galaxy Note 3, by then Galaxy Note 4 will be around the corner when the Galaxy Note 3 is available. Don't really understand the logic. There will be something always better in a few months. What's the point of waiting for a device based on speculation?
I understand, But, i dont think Samsung is gonna downgrade on their Flagship smartphones...we just need to wait and see....
i dont get the logic of some people, why do you always have to get the latest and greatest? is there's a hole in your life that this gadget will fulfill? the Note 2 is crazy smooth and fast, why do you really need a 1080P 5" screen that i bet you wont notice the difference and hardware that doesn't has software to take advantage of?
if it wont give better battery life, then i dont care to be honest. Performance note 2 has more than enough. With more software optimization, note 2 would be even faster than now.

There needs to be significant improvement (or something wrong with my current phone) in order for me to "upgrade".
That's why I said MEH when I saw the SGS3, but decided to upgrade when I saw the SGN2. I have an Android phone, not an Apple... I don't need to buy the latest iteration of my phone to feel special.

My wife own a S4 (i9500) and never had a heating problem or any problem at all. Yes it's a little bit hot when the A15 kicks in for a long time but summer in Shanghai is really hot and nothing to freak out. I also sold a couple of them to people I know and none of them have issues. They all love it. I think you highly exaggerate when you say "lot of issues".
Note II/III LTE with Snapdragon 800
I am purchasing the note III that will have the Snapdragon 800!!! I Want it!
I for one would love to see a note II ( a 720p screen) & the snapdragon 800 paired together. Add a custom kernel to U.C. (& U.V. [ but not necessarily along with other performance tweaks]) to around 1.5-1.8Ghz from 2.2-2.3GHz and I believe we would have a device with a great balance of performance and even better battery life that the current Note II.
The Adreno 330 matched up with 2-3GB of ram would definitely handle the 720p resolution with amazing grace, completing task and powering down quicker than the Adreno 320 even in Multi-view. For game play and performance, I will let you use your imagination but I am not referring to Words with Friends or Angry Birds.
I do not use S-Voice. Google Now is my preferred software of choice. I like to have a snappy UI (with great graphics, it is eye pleasing) and wish for even longer battery life when undergoing long periods of heavier use ie: 2.5hr of phone calls then; watching Netflix or a 720p film/tv episode from my sd card while responding to 20-30 mssgs/emails; an hour of HD game play and then video chat before going to bed. I travel often, can you tell? Let us not forget about constantly web browsing to search for the latest updates on S800’s/platforms power draw.
Look, we cannot have everything that we want, trade-offs are inevitable. A Beast of a phone/phablet that can handle the next 2 OS upgrades is what we all are praying for. I’m saying I would love that balance and think others would too. A Snapdragon 800 clocked up to 1.72-1.78Ghz in a note II with S-Voice wake commands disabled should have a comparable UI experience, if not slightly better, compared to the current NII’s and hopefully improved battery life.
Once again, I know this is about the Note III - please no flaming I am purchasing the note III that will have the Snapdragon 800!!! I Want it!
I an thinking of (min/max increase to) 1.5-2.5days of battery life on moderate to heavy use... am i the only one thinking that could be possible using a 720p screen? ... because i do also want the Adreno 320 GPU higher off-screen capabilities for presentations & gameplay
I know,... i do want it all but who doesn't... but what do you think about the 720p idea?
New octa would be better than S800 imo.

Anything above 300ppi is wasted on normal eye from more than 10cm, from more normal 25cm, 240ppi is more than enough. I have note 2 and lenovo k900, side by side from normal distance I can see no difference in black text on white screen quality (white on black is better on Lenovo, that is true). So it would be nice, but by no means a dealbraker for me

Who says 300 is perfect? I was at the local o2 shop and played with a s4 and was amazed at the screen. Ever since Apple started this retina display I always wanted that in our devices. With a 1080p on 5.7 inch it's gonna be just awesome to read and play on the note 3.
Seriously try out the s4 and see how well the text looks.

I say it's perfect. I have both to compare as I wrote @5.5 inch 720p and 1080p are almost indistinguishable from normal use distance. You say it's not, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Unless you put your nose almost to the screen you won't see any difference. Of course, given chance I would take FHD but to pay premium for it? No way Reading books - I do it every day on Note 2, playing games - with current GPU it would be suicide to try FHD gaming @ full details. Note 3, whatever they put in it will have to be much faster to handle FHD, the only reason I'm happy about that is because I will use MHL to play on my TV and then it will finally use full resolution. Other than that FHD on screen this size is useless, companies have limited numbers to compete with, so they up the display resolution (putting further strain on battery because higher res requires faster GPU and CPU to drive it well) or camera megapixels.
It drives my all the closer to switching to Chinese phones - 1/2 the price, almost the same hardware - you can get Note 2 lookalike (although with MTK CPU, but almost equal in speed) for about 300$, of course, no SPen, but that was only an example.
Oh, and you get FHD display that you like so much

[Q] Where should i buy my Galaxy s4, is galaxy s4 the best option ?

OK, i've been looking phones for days and 3 days ago i ordered a Galaxy s4 on Bestbuy for 500 $ ( tax included ).
I was going to buy a factory international unlocked verison on amazon for 350 $ ish , but i saw some bad reviews ( some say it's fake, some say it's refurbished ) and i decided rather just buy from bestbuy but it's been THREE days !!! they havent ship my phone yet.
Do you guys think i should just cancel the order and buy one from amazon or ebay for 350$, but i think those factory unlocked version doesn't have warranty at all !!
I need help !!

If possible I would say buy a Nexus 5. The S4 is on a slower cpu, and I doubt we will get anything past Android L. The Nexus 5 is a strong device for the price, plus you do get months faster updates. You will probably get a few more updates over the S4. Both have comparable on-screen times despite a slight advantage for the S4. But you can swap out the battery for say a Zerolemon which would give a clear advantage over the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 should have android L before December. All in all, I'd say go for the newer Nexus 5 for the Snapdragon 800's advantage in raw horsepower for games and general use.
When it comes down to it though go with your gut feeling and what is more important to you.

How does 300mhz fast help.
"If someone helps, never forget to hit thanks ? "
Actually it's an extra 1600mhz total plus an upgraded gpu for better graphical performance, for a lower price. Plus in white it's sexy. I wish I would have gotten a Nexus 5 over the S4, but I was in need of a new phone.

Show me..all i can see is 2.3 vs 1.9 quad core.
Are you saying 400 for each core? :/ and thus 1600 difference?
21% times faster it is. Just that. I cant see how 1.9*121% make a difference.
And then what about the i9500? It has Octacore processor? Will you say it has 1.6*8? Lol.
And please dont forget the camera.

There's 4 cores that means 400mhz per core. Therefore it's an increase of 1600mhz.
Also since the chips are both 28nm and on the same architecture, you can compare the mhz. You can't compare the Exynos soc to a Snapdragon based chip because it's on a different architecture. It's like Amd vs Intel if you know those two.
Both cameras take good pictures. Not a huge difference between the two.

But still the aggregate increase remains 21%.
Maths aint that tough brother. we are talking the same thing.
21% faster with no ext mem support, no IR blaster and tons of other features go missing. And still the wide acceptance and reputation of the S4 stands strong.
Plus here in India the S5 is almost the same price of a nexus 32gb. Why would one go for a "nexus" in that case too.
Plus Why not buy the google play edition Galaxy S4?
Where is the difference now mate? Just a processor. Camera, build quality, vendor reputation.??
Plus a S4 is A S4. Comparing processing speeds of different processors is no harm. Why do people then compare apple with samsung? Apple is still a dual core with a 1gb ram. So why are they bashed for hardware. I havent seen an iphone lag. (exclude i4 i4s)

Stop guys, everyone comes here thinks "Damn, I came in a battlefield?" [emoji14]
Tastes are tastes, everyone of us has different tastes among all other... First, Nexus 5 is faster for CPU frequency and GPU is more powerful than S4 (talking about I9505 that beats i9500), S5 is faster than Nexus 5.
How many guys among you may use Nexus 5 at its higher CPU frequency? How many hours battery lasts?
In my opinion, I used a Nexus 5 (with CM11 as my S4) and found that I can't notice any speed difference in normal and heavy use between its 2.3GHz CPU and my S4 with this frequencies: 1 core 1.67GHz, 2/3/4 core 1.45GHz. Even in games, S4 can run any game for Android without problems.
What about Cameras? What about S4's AMOLED vs N5's LCD? What about display density? And IR blaster?
Nexus 5 is more brute force and developer-like, not the best for multimediality.
S4's cameras shoot definitely better, display is superior, has IR led built-in if you want to command your IR devices like televisions, air conditioners, set top boxes, xbox etc. And it's not all [emoji6]
I was almost selling my device to buy Oneplus One, but I can't because I love my S4 guys, it's too perfect in my opinion.
Don't do always and only the "run for GHz", think about everything else too
There are also tons of other things to say, but it's late here and I'm sleepy [emoji42]
