Galaxy Tab 2 7" owners input wanted.

Hey guys i'm not from this forum but from the galaxy ace forums.
I'm looking into buying this tab but I just want to know how good is it to live with everyday. I'll just be using it for everyday tasks, web browsing, music, movies and regular fooling around but I would also be starting my masters degree soon so I will want to to take some basic notes and that sort of thing.
I would also like to know how easy it is to root and install custom roms on it, also on average what kind of overclocks can be achieved if I ever need any extra horse power. I was also looking at the Nexus 7 but that does not have any expandable memory slot which sucks and also I think 4 cores for a 7" tab is just being wasteful .
But any way, what are your thoughts on it, I've watched and read the reviews and I know its a good tab I just a want to know how good is it a month or 2 later.

The only thing I wouldn't use it for would be note taking because of trying to type on the keyboard would feel to slow for me. For note taking, I'd think the Note 10.1 would be great because of the s-pen that you could use. It is really easy to flash anything custom to the tablet, just flash recovery via Odin or Heimdall, then boot into recovery and flash whatever you want. I use my tablet for web browsing and as an e-reader and it's fit my uses just fine. Also thinking of using it as a "portable" media player as well since the audio output from the small speakers is really good IMO, and it also has the same audio codec as the SGS3, WM1811, which is a really good audio processor.

go for it its an excellent tab...
No lags at all...
All your needs will satisfied in a premium touch even without rooting/overclocking the tablet...
It can be overclocked to 1.3 ghz and for rooting tutorial search the forum you will get it...

Cons-
Some awesome games are not supported (i think it because its new developers will add support soon)
No Gorilla Glass
No HDMI

The Samsung galaxy is full worth the money dude I'm 24x7 online in it using 2g gprs the battery stands for more than one day and the screen on time is 5 to 7 hours depends on the usage with games and stuff that means you can continuous use upto 5 to 7 hours till drain this is he only best tab at 18k to 20 k price range with ICS and don't forget to update to 4.0.4 from 4.0.3 from the box good luck

Well, I strongly disagree about the note taking, I use Evernote, and for note taking it has been a dream-come-true! Its optimized for our screens, and syncs to their servers for backup. Price is very good for what you get. It has a couple of things other 7" tablets dont have, such as GPS (Glonass), and an IR emitter (universal remote for your entertainment system).
This tablet has also had most of its source code released so all the devs here should, in theory, have a field day hacking at it. It also has a very decent CPU and GPU; these chips are used in many other devices aswell, so their technically should be tons of support for lots of games and apps that indulge in nicer hardware (they run smoother, sometimes).
This has become my main music device. I use bluetooth headphones and they, and my tab, support Bluetooth 3.0 and Apt-X Bluetooth lossless audio codec by CSR; listening to music is simply delightful!

Bought mine to replace a Arnova 10g2 that was just not up to the job i wonted it for which was to read E books and Comics (My father now has it now! He loves it?) as the screen was really poor! Happy with the Tab 2 once over-clocked and cyanmod flashed! Got a bit disappointed with the announcement of the Galaxy 7 until they mentioned the lack of external memory support! Still if they release a Nexus 7 with external memory! Then I think my mother might soon be the owner of a nearly new Tab 2! lol!
Good screen, plays Dead Trigger well and SD Slot! What more could you ask for?

I'm generally pretty happy with this tablet, it was supposed to be a stopgap tablet until the Nexus 7 was officially announced but once I realized that there would be no external storage (which I pretty much knew anyway) I stuck around with this.
I'm not happy with the tablet but I am content with it, if that makes sense.
It doesn't have the fastest processors/gpu, the screen isn't the greatest and the proprietary dock (makes having to buy all new accessories a pain) but as
long as you come into this tablet knowing what to expect, then it's pretty damned good. It doesn't have a huge Rom community but that also cuts down on the over saturation
from some of the more popular phones (have you seen the Galaxy sII or Desire HD forums?!? Ai yi yi) off the top of my head, I think this has a Stripped down stock Rom,
CM9, CM10 (alpha) maybe a Miui Rom which covers all the major basics as far as I'm aware.
I've been running CM9 RC2 since about 2 weeks after I bought this and I'm pretty happy and Once I wake up from this nap I'll probably be flashing CM9 stable & supercharge
it.
I know that I didn't really productively answer your questions but I hope I gave you some perspective on the tablet.
P.S. The thing I hate and I mean hate is the limited internal memory (I think it's 4.7gb or some such) which didn't seem bad at first cuz I was planning
on buying a 32gb card for everything, but apps especially games chew into that space so damn quickly and it doesn't get saved to teh ext card instead, even though I have all my media moved to the external card, I still run into scenario's where I can't update apps because I get that dreaded notification Tablet space is low.
Dev's are working on ways to utilise ext cards for storage bbut there is nothing stable I'm willing to try yet.

I'm running CM1O and its sooooo cool.
The Tab itself is very nice to touch and use . The tab has a nice weight to it and is balanced to hold. one draw back is the placement of the speakers.... sometimes playing games the sound becomes "muffled" due to hand/control positioning. Same as charging /playing music , It is sometimes awkward to use, but not overpowering.
Cant say i have any issues with the Tab , apart from the ones that i have caused lol.
Screen quality is VERY good for a budget tablet /size, same as sound quality.
Storage could become an issue but has workarounds , but over all........ WOW.....LOVIN IT !!!11!!!

I liked it when I bought it but the Nexus 7 is far and away the better 7" tablet in my opinion with one exception. The advantage of the Samsung is the internal micro SD. If you are staying stock, and want to watch media from non cloud based sources, the Samsung is better. If you will be rooting, you can use an OTG USB cable and use micro sd cards on the 7. The 7 is better in almost every other way and has a plain JB interface without the extra bloat Samsung puts on their tablets. My guess is we may never even see an official Jelly Bean release for the Galaxy 2 given the speed at which Samsung updates their software. Of course, there are multiple JB ROM's already out for the Galaxy 2, just not stock versions.
My Galaxy 2 died last weekend. It would just go dead and then required you plug in to the computer and hold the power button for 60 seconds. As soon as the screen would shut off, the same issue occurred. I called Samsung and they were very quick to send me a shipping label to return it for repair. Within 4 days the unit was supposedly repaired with a "Software Upgrade (External Factor)" whatever that means. It should arrive back on Tuesday. Hopefully it is fixed.

I have no complaints. Does everything my Thrive does , i can put JB on, and have used this as a credit Card terminal. I had audio issues with a custom rom and video playback, nothing major. Only things i dont care for are the stock predictive text and that some of my tegra specific apps dont work (this having and OMAP cpu and all).
Was definitely worth the cash since it actually outperforms my Thrive for most uses and cost half as much. Thrive wins points for the full sized usb and hdmi ports though.

I have this (the 3G version) for a week now. So far I'm perfectly happy with the purchase. Excellent value for money.

I really like my tab 2 7.0", but....
My Pros
- TouchWiz actually has some nice apps on this device. File manager, email, pop-up apps, power toggles are nice features
- Speakers are awesome
- Expandable memory
- Works great with USB thumb drives, mouse and keyboard (with adapter)
My Cons
- Screen resolution sucks, things are blurry (like most Android tablets). Some newer devices like Nexus 7, Asus Infinity, iPad3 have HD screens
- No TV out
- TouchWiz although I think is quite nice slows it down at times. I rooted and froze a ton of unwanted apps. Not all can be to be disabled through native ICS settings
- Chrome that comes with the latest update crashes a lot. New bookmark widget is also bad. Install ICS browser+ from the market instead.

I got it yesterday, rooted and installed AOKP JB. The size feels perfectly great to me. I have not cycled the battery enough to give any input on tat. Games run awesomly well, including minecraft PE on fancy graphics. Its an awesome tab, i love it

the wireless receiver on galaxy tab 2 7" is the worst thing on this tablet, the second is the battery life with wifi on! i got mine, i like it but......

For typing, Thumb Keyboard is the best coming from a blackberry. The split keyboard is excellent and fully customizable. The only issue is holding this in portrait mode leads to the death grip but if you are note taking and don't need a strong wifi connection you got to try it. Landscape mode resolves this also.
I am going to try a custom rom to help boost this baby up a bit.

Yea this device may start out with OK performance but it does get pretty laggy. Rooting and running a Jellybean ROM will increase performance a good amount.

I am trying to decide if a Nexus 10 is suitable for me. I currently have a Nexus 4 and a Acer C7 Chromebook.
I mainly browse the internet on sites like reddit, XDA (obv), checking emails and YouTube.
What attracts me to the Nexus is having the stock Android experience combined with killer specs like the screen resolution, I watch a lot of movies so having a high resolution screen is important because I prefer HD content (Who doesn't, right?). Also, will most content on YouTube play on it?
Is the battery life good? And lastly, is it worth getting a screen protector and case with a keyboard?

I secnod this, even if I'm having issues with Samsung's service. Hopefully you don't get a defective unit. Love the N10, hate Samsung.

Had my N10 for just over a week and do all the activities in your list. I am very pleased with my purchase. I have a lot of tech devices and am rarely surprised but several times as I customize the UI or find another "cool" app I am amazed at the overall speed of the N10 and how visually impressive it looks.
If you try to use it outside of its intended sphere (media consumption) I asume you could gripe at what it does not do well. Mine replaced a netbook used for media consumption and it blew that away. Viewing emails and short replies are fine but I use my desktop PC for any extensive typing. Right now I do not intend to purchase a bluetooth keyboard.
The lack of accessories can be a pain. I had to make my own dock, so I could watch videos hands free in bed, while waiting for a better solution. It looks crappy but does the job.

I got the N10 early December and haven't regretted it for a moment, I use it for all the activities you list, I travel for work and basically live away 3 to 5 days a week. My work Laptop is VERY locked down as I work in a secure business so the Nexus is my laptop replacement while I'm away, I used to lug two laptops at times but no longer. The Nexus does media, games and browsing in style. I also use it to maintain a couple of websites while I'm away and it works well with the simpler stuff. I wouldn't pretend it's perfect but all round an excellent package and I wouldn't want to go back to hauling two laptops round.

I found the MoKo case w/ bluetooth KB on AMazon for $28 to make a great stand and keyboard case. Keyboard's magnetic and removable, too

I have my Nexus 10 for about a week now and I also hesitated for a good while if I should buy it or not. Now that I've been using it for a while I can safely say that it was an awesome purchase.
The screen is brilliant, it's lightning fast, the build quality is top notch (none of the hardware errors that made me so worried in the first place, very solid back etc.) and it does everything I want it to do.
I got a Logitech bluetooth keyboard to go with it (you can find it here) - it says it is for the iPad, but everything works just fine for Android. It's big enough to make typing a breeze and I use it all the time during my classes.
Battery life is very good at about 8-10 hours of heavy usage (brightness adjusted to about ~30%), which lasts me the entire day and I never need to worry about running out before I get through the day.
Make sure you get a nice case for it as well and you're all set. I read so much about reboots and lockups, but during this week I've used the devise intensely and I didn't get a single reboot or lockup. I think Chrome crashed on me once and that certainly is nothing to complain about.
Media playback feels sooo nice - the screen really shines when watching movies and the speakers are also really good.
I was weighing so many options - the Transformer Prime, different Asus und Acer tabs, I even looked at the Surface RT and the Sony Xperia Tablet Z which is gonna be released soon. It was a close call between buying the Nexus 10 now or waiting for the Xperia Z - in the end the small battery on the Xperia Z made the difference for me. I need at least 8 hours usage from my tablet and I wouldn't have gotten that from the Sony device, so I'm very, very happy.
It's the best tablet out right now and I'm saying that after watching hours of Youtube reviews, reading on a lot of sites and finally having the Nexus 10 at home. You can't go wrong with it!

I love mine. It was a Christmas gift from my wife and I've used it everyday since. I use it for what you described. I'm not much of a gamer, but every so often I might play something.
Regrading battery life, mine is more than acceptable. Over the weekend I got over 48 hours before having to charge it (about 5 1/2 hours of screen on time) and yesterday, with heavy usage, I got 7 1/2 hours of screen on time.
One bit of advice, if you can, buy it locally from Walmart or Staples instead of going through the Play Store. Unfortunately, there are some units that suffer from bad light bleed and other issues. Exchanging it at a store will be easier than the RMA process with Google.

Even I'm stuck wid the same problem... One of my czn's got the N10, and he's getting a 100% CPU load wid nothing on it.... No background process, nothing else.... And reading abt the defected ones is so scary, that to me, every second N10 seems to be defected (Okay... that's a bit of exaggeration, but yeah, it feels like that...) Would someone recommend a good place to buy an Un-defected N10???

1.How is the general UI performance? (Lags, frame drops)
2.How do games hold up? (Again, frame rates and lags (especially N.O.V.A 3 & Modern Combat 4 if anyone has that (that would help a lot!)))
3.How is the YouTube app in general (playback and browsing.
4.Does it feel/ is it underpowered/ showing its age?
5.Has 4.3 improved things a lot (performance)
6.Should I get one overall?

Its very vast and very very good for gaming. It has a very powerful gpu. So games and browsing and stuff are flawless for me. I dont know if 4.3 is so much better because when I got it I almost immediatly updated it.

1. The general UI performace is excellent. No lags No frame drops.
2. I play NOVA 3 and it is smooth as butter with excellent graphics even better than the one on ipad.
3. Youtube and general browsing is also very good, everything briskly fast. I have yet to encounter anything that lags or with frame drops.
4. I have HD2 with Gingerbread 2.3.7, so for me N10 with 4.3 is a huge improvement and lots of usable new features.
5. Its an outstanding deal. You are going to love it.

1. I love the performance, and it does not lag at all. I typically turn off animations, transitions, etc because I like the performance better.
2. I don't really play games on it
3. YouTube works great for me even HD, and I use it all the time
4. In comparison my various phones, ipad and cheap Nextbook tablet, this one stands out
5. Yes on most newer android devices
6. Yes. I recommend the current Samsung version over the new Asus version that is soon to be released

I agree except for one thing there is some lag sometimes but mostly smooth and the home screen reloads sometimes when leaving an app that uses lots of memory. But that is very unnoticeable and its a great tablet. I think I'll keep it for another year and a half or 2 before getting a new one

1. I generally use it for watching video's and browsing. I do play some games from time to time.
2. I dont the new one will be much better. This is a top of the line tablet that will last some time. And I heard Asus has bad products.
3. I dont have a case. But I dont travel with it. I hate cases.
4. I have a sleeve. Not really necessary but always handy. Also an anti glare screen protector may come to use but since the screen will be more pixellated its not for me.
5. No I have never had any problems with it being a dual core. I have to say that I never owned something quad core.
6. I got mine imported from Amazon total: €500. I feel stupid because a week later media markt started to sell it for €400 (before that the Nexus 10 wasnt for sale here)... So I wasted €100..

Hi,
1 - I never found a problem with the UI, very fast and smooth, my only problem was with the stock launcher, but you can get a third party one and solve it haha.
2 - The games look nice and have no problems, however I was disappointed with Gameloft, because the games looks much better on my S4 than on Nexus 10, about framedrops no worries, but if you want the BEST graphics go for other games (like Ravensword which looks amazing).
3 - YouTube app is great, the UI is really nice! And playback is normal, the only problem is that it misses 1080p playback I believe, but that's a YT app problem, so you might wait for an update to have this.
4 - Nope, I never used something as fast as this haha. Soon Nexus 10 2 will be released, but this one is still a beast.
5 - I believe, my device got much smoother after it. Also, I always used a video (FullHD, FLAC audio, mkv) to test the versions. Galaxy S4 4G on 4.3 run with many lags, Nexus 10 on 4.2.1 was able to run with heavy lags (unwatchable), on 4.2.2 it ran with some lags and on 4.3 I can watch with no lags at all . So I can say that something was improved haha.
6 - If you don't want to wait for the Nexus 10 2, go for Nexus 10 surely! It's a beast and you won't get disappointed. However if I were you, I'd give a look in Xperia Tablet Z too, as people say it's as powerful as Nexus.

Will answer this to complete my other post.
1 - I use it to write my fanfic, to read some things, navigate on the web, watch videos/movies and play games.
2 - Not sure, you must give a look. Remember the next one is Asus, which is very different from Samsung, if you don't like Asus go for this one surely, however I'd wait.
3 - I have the Poetic Case with Keyboard, which is amazing, very good and premium feel, also the keyboard is great for typing . I only miss a trackpad in the keyboard, but u can understand why they didn't put one hehe.

4 - Pogo Cable for faster charging, USB OTG Cable, Micro HDMI Cable, and the case I said in item 3.
5 - Nope. It's a Cortex A15 with a beast GPU, Cortex A15 is very good and fast, you won't find any problems. There's a misunderstanding about cores that I'll resume like this: More Cores ≠ More Speed. Like I already said my Nexus 10 can run videos my S4 can't, Nexus is dual core and my S4 is quad. It can multitask goodly and even run a PC OS (CompleteLinuxInstaller) so you will not have any problem with it being Dual Core dude.
6 - I bought mine from amazon and paid 550$ (without shipping, including shipping price I think it was plus 30$, but I was getting a Galaxy S4 and the case together so the shipping price may vary). Iy was bought back in June I believe. Oh, I got the 32GB version.

2. should you wait?: no, jump in... it's a great device!
3. case: the black Google book cover. I really like the look & grippy feel of the N10's back... and the flip cover's cool because: a) it's thin & minimal, giving you a more visually clean and tactilely direct experience of your tablet, b) it's easy to install and extremely well integrated, c) it magnetically awakens the device and puts it to sleep and d) it efficiently protects the screen between uses. In addition, I use a $6 neoprene sleeve for travel.
4. accessories: a) pogo plug (excellent charging, ∅ wear & tear on the USB port... it's a no brainer), b) an On-The-Go male micro to female standard USB pigtail for data transmission, c) external Bluetooth speakers, d) Bluetooth mouse, e) Bluetooth keyboard, f) collapsible stand, g) HDMI cable for viewing videos with your honey, h) flash memory storage.
My favorite tablet accessory is a WiFi LAN Windows desktop computer, which is the perfect large-screen mass-storage device.

Heya! I personally am of quite a different opinion than others here (mainly on point 2), so bear with me.
1. I use it for social networking, Hangouts, and especially so: News. Through both Google+ and Pulse. Gaming, also, some 3D some more basic (Bloons TD, for example). Works great for this, except the frame-rate in Pulse for vertical scrolling isn't that great. Just FYI, I get anywhere from 5-7 hours of screen-on time per day, on average, with that use pattern.
2. YES. Absolutely no question: yes. People say that if you always wait for the next one, you'll always be waiting. That's just plain impatient right now. If there is a new one, it'll be out in less than a month most likely. You'll be getting the latest hardware, something that can properly power this beast of a display, and you'll also be getting a second-gen product, which in the case of the Nexus 7 was a MASSIVE improvement. I personally find that the RAM isn't enough on this device; about ~800MB is devoted to video, meaning you only get actually around 800-900MB for app use. The Nexus 4 performs MUCH better with multitasking than the Nexus 10 for this reason. Launcher reloads are common. Chrome doesn't hold a tab for more than 30 seconds reliably.
I also do see frame drops frequently. I have a keen eye for this, IMO; the SoC in the Nexus 10 simply doesn't have the oomph to handle this display based on my experiences.
If you wait, there is no downside. You'll be able to get a used N10 cheaper, and you'll also have the option of the much-improved new model. Don't listen to the people saying "don't get ASUS!!!! They ssuuuuckk!". I had a TF101 and a TF300. The only things holding them back were SSDs with poor I/O performance, and the facts show that Google has forced them to iron out these issues with both Nexus 7s. An ASUS Nexus 10 will be amazing.
3. None! This thing is pretty durable. I have a few scratches on the back, but not very noticeable. I even dropped it down a small flight of concrete/brick stairs once, with only minor scuffs to two corners! That impressed me. (No, I never let it happen again 0_0)
4. MagNector if you go original, Qi charger if you go new model! Also, a USB On-The-Go (OTG) adapter.
5. Not in the slightest. This thing is incredible at single or dual-threaded tasks. Still in the benchmarks in the top 3, generally. The GPU is what I'm more worried about.
6. eBay, about 4 months ago for $420! 32GB model.

Let me begin by agreeing with CWalkop that you should definitely wait a week to see what the new Nexus 10 looks like, as it will almost certainly be announced this week.
1. Pretty good, but I get the feeling there's some light lag. Very occasionally the keyboard or app will freeze up for a second, but it's pretty rare. As Android goes, not sure you'll find much better.
2. I don't play games.
3. Youtube plays back fine, other than the inherent limitations of their app.
4. Doesn't feel underpowered, but then I haven't tried the new generation of tablets. It's running the first Cortex A15 chip and it goes toe-to-toe in CPU benchmarks with recently released tablets, though the GPU has been surpassed. I wish it was big.LITTLE, ie quad-core with two more Cortex A7 cores, so that it could save power in light use, but considering nobody else is doing that well yet, no big loss.
5. 4.3 helped, particularly fixing a memory leak in 4.2.2 and seemingly increasing battery life a little.
6. Hmm, this is a tough question. It was arguably the best Android tablet available at the beginning of the year, which is why I bought it for my first tablet. But WQXGA 2560x1600 is overkill for tablet resolution, you're probably better off with a Full HD 1920x1080 screen that won't drain your battery as fast. Also, the new iPad Air is 1 lb flat, hopefully lighter Android tablets are on the way, as this one can feel somewhat heavy. I'd never buy Apple, but something to think about if you do. I think it all depends if the strengths of this tablet fit your needs, but I'm happy with my purchase.

1. I use it for web browsing and watching some videos. I've also used it for torrenting, with the aDownloader app, and it gets surprisingly very good torrent speeds.
2. As I said above, definitely wait, as prices will almost certainly fall more when the new one comes out.
3. No case, I only use it around the house.
4. I haven't bought any. Google never released a pogo charger or dock, which I'd have considered buying.
5. Not at all, you will never notice it, as confirmed by the linked benchmarks above.
6. Google Play Store for $500 for the 32 GB version, came to $550 with tax and shipping.

My Review of the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition)

I purchased the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) from amazon two weeks ago with overnight shipping. I received it the next day and was impressed by the build quality, except, the right side speaker is slightly loose. I did not notice it was loose until I read another post here saying they had a loose speaker and many others started to find out that theirs was too. Other than that, everyone was perfectly constructed.
When I turned it on for the first time everything was fast and fluid, even with Samsung's TouchWiz and all the other bloaty widgets and apps they come with. I have to say, Samsung can really make a polished piece of hardware, but that is where they should stop, unless they are going to invest a much larger amount of energy in to developing their software platforms. I have the Galaxy S4 as my phone, and now the Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet, and I always love everything about the Samsung products except for almost 100% of the software they develop... but I will get in to that a little later.
One of the big reasons that I chose this over other Samsung tablets to be my first tablet since I got an Archos Internet Tablet (in 2008 or 9 ), well besides the obviously beastly processor and RAM, was because it had the physical button on the frame and a software digital button. I know a lot of users here and elsewhere hate the physical button, but I don't understand why when you are just wasting space on your screen when the frame of your device would have been actual wasted space without the button. I've used the Galaxy Tab 2 10inch and one of my biggest annoyances was the on-screen buttons because I use the app Splashtop to remotely control my PC, and those damn software navigation buttons always got in the way.
Anyways, on to other things, this thing is fast and powerful. 20-25 apps running in the background and no slow down of any noticeable amount. After a few days though, TouchWiz started lagging tremendously whether there were any apps running or not. Now I've replaced the stock TouchWiz with Nova Launcher Prime, and the Lock Screen with WidgetLocker, and never have I seen any lag on this device since. Plays large, HD quality games like FIFA 14 perfectly.
The S-Pen is actually really cool and I'm a fanatic about productivity and some of the features related to the S-Pen are really great when trying to be productive. It has a feature that lets you scrap book any video, image, text, area of the screen, etc. that I use often to research certain topics and bring them together. Action memo allows me to write down an address that someone is telling me over the phone, then circle it with S-Pen and it will pull up gMaps to direct me there automatically. It was a little strange getting used to writing on a tablet though but now it feels as fluid as if I were writing with a real pen.
I have to say something about the graphical quality of the screen though. It is beautiful, and I have not seen a better quality screen for such a device ever before. The resolution is higher than my Desktop PCs and it definitely shows. It is definitely better than even the iPad Air that I went to check out a couple days ago. Apparently this factor alone is the reason that this Dual-Quad-Core tablet requires that much processor, but that's fine with me.
The Note came with a host of perks such as a $25 Google Play gift card, a $50 Samsung Hub credit, Hulu+, Newsweek, premium "wifi hotspot" membership for 18 months and more that I won't every use. This brings me back to my biggest downfall with Samsung though. They give me $50 to spend on the Samsung Hub (Their version of the Play Store) and when I go there, everything is either junk, already pre-installed on my device, or just something I'm not interested in. I really wanted to use the Samsung Credit to buy some Tech E-Books through their book store and use the Play Store credit for apps/games, but their store only has about 25 tech-related books! So when I decide I won't be buying any books there and try to get some apps and games, half of the decent games worth buying take me directly to the Play Store instead. I feel like I may have this Samsung Credit for a while..
But getting less free stuff than I wanted is not going to detract even 1 star from this bad ass hog. Overall the thing is more powerful than any tablet in its price range, has the highest quality video capabilities, comes with a unique S-Pen that other tablets just don't have, and is a Droid!
:good: 4.5/5 is what my rating would have to be, because they have created a great tablet, and could have got a full 5/5 if they just polished and worked on their software platforms until completion.

.I'm using my note for 1 week now...
I've got the 16g wi fi version.
I ve got the 16 bec ause that was the only one available at the store and since there wo n't be any model available in my country soon and I was travelling in the US I, ve decided to buy this on with a 32g sd card.
So far everything is fine, stock configuration and beginning to do some customizations.
My previous tablet was the asus tf300 wich was stolen.
My first concearn was about the 16g of storage....Yes it's small but since I'm moving all available apps and files to sd card everything is working ok. Can't notice any difference between sd or internal apps running.
The s pen is awesome. the kind of thing that you just know you need it only after you get it. Much easier and accurate navigation through the tablet with it.
The multi screen function is also awesome. no need to exit one browser to see other one again....
The only thing that bothers me , and that's not a only Samsung fault, is the amout of pre installed apps.
I was waiting for the tf701 and the new nexus 10.....wich won't be available here either. ... Since both weren't available I've decided for the Samsung.
I'm a regular user, the main use is for reading aircraft manuals and articles and using some life easing and time saving apps...and so far I'm happy with my choice.the tablet is doing its job.
I read lots of reviews and comparisons and my conclusion is that when premium tablet is the concearn. ..regular every day users like me , any pick is a good pick.....Is pretty much like buying a premium sports car.... some will prefer Ferrari some lamborgini and others Porches but either one will be a great choice.

That's a point where I'm not very satisfied. I think that me battery drains faster than it shoud. I use the device basically with wi fi on all the time right now my battery is low but latter after charging I'll reply with time time availability shown with 100%.

I think the battery is one of the few areas of honest disappointment. I don't like Android devices that make you do a lot of discovery to find battery drain culprits, or hold a charge quite as well as you'd expect. That's one area where I blame the TouchWiz skin on this tablet.
You were right to highlight the screen, it's absolutely phenomenal. It's far better than my Nexus 10 which was something. It outclasses my iPad as well, it's not just clear it has beautiful color reproduction. It's a bit heavier than I expected after reviews, and my home button is sticky. Besides that it's well made.
It's funny though, I can't say without a doubt I'd recommend it to people if it weren't for the S-Pen usage. The SPen on this is incredible, it works better than you'd think if you have no experience with it. No lag, good software tied in with it, it's the real deal as far as having a virtual notebook. That's why I bought it and why I love it so far. Take that away and the TouchWiz skin seems so unnecessary in so many ways. As someone who uses a Note 3 everyday, this clearly isn't as fast or slick, but it has the real estate. Interesting device.

I have had mine for only a couple of days, and it's great except for the battery life. I also followed the advise on the battery saving thread, and seems to help.

Battery life about 10 hours medium usage with full-brightness. I drain the battery pretty quick though playing games on it and watching hulu..
I feel like my friends older Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 gets better battery life, but then again he always has the brightness to a minimum. I always max the brightness because its just too good looking.
By the way another thing I love about this tablet vs the Galaxy Tabs is that it uses the standard android MicroUSB charger instead of a fat proprietary looking one that doesn't charge any of my other devices.

opinions about the Tegra Note 7

I am looking to get some cheap tablet for my daughter, something that I can use as well (not a cheap Chinese tablet). I had nexus 7 2012 which is now broken so looking for an alternative.
I am interested to get one but I see that it is not famous even the forum is almost empty. Can someone tell me why. I see the specs and price are excellent.
I want to hear opinions from owners of this tab before getting it. what do/don't you like about this tab? before either getting this or nexus 7 2013.
what I like about this over the nexus is the speakers and the styles, they will be useful for me and my daughter (to listen to songs and draw things). but the nexus has more RAM and better support. I don't care about the camera (I have Z1 SGS4 and pro camera) or the resolution as long as the quality of the screen is good, my old nexus 7 screen is good enough.
what do you guys think? get it, get the nexus or do you have any other suggestion?

My problem with 1G RAM is not with opening apps or multitasking. But I am worried that the support for this tab will be dropped very soon because it won't have enough RAM. Most Manufacturers dropped support for device with 0.5 RAM and some even dropped support for devices with 1G RAM. I know that 4.4 tried to solve this issue but I still think that 1 G RAM isn't much and Tegra won't support this tab for long and will drop support after 4.4. What make this problem even more serious is that there is no much support for this tab from the community itself and not many ROMs available that could support this tab if nevidia gone this way. Any opinions?

Well, i think you gotta ask yourself a few questions if you consider buying the TN7.
1. How important is the screen? It's just like all the tests say, the screen ist not SO good. It's ok, i think the resolution is enough, and i am happy with the colors - its not like everything is blue or something. But it is just "ok" and could be better. (for example in the N7'13) (this might be interesting if your daughter wants to read alot)
2. Do you need the stylus? This was the #1 reason for me to get a TN7, and i love it. Good for drawing and writing, but also just for everyday use. I never touch the screen with my finger =)
3. Does your daughter need skype or something? The front camera is VERY bad, and not usable for anything. (640x480 i think, just VGA)
4. The speakers are superawesome. Loud, clear and in generel very good, it's fun to watch videos and movies.
So, in my opinion you should go for the TN7. Guess custom rom support and stuff is not important for your daughter, and for entertainment, drawing and stuff it's very good.
ps: the resolution is more then enough to read, the kindle 4 for exampe just got 800xsomething. but 1080 is better of course

I don't own one (yet) but if you're looking for a reason to get this over the Nexus 7... aside from the far superior processor (perhaps you won't notice if you don't play games) the HDMI Out is a good one. The Tegra Note's screen lower screen resolution won't make a difference when you're viewing on a HD TV.

The underlying software (I'm told by youtube videos) is about identical to the one the Shield uses (the Nvidia Marketplace looks different). These same videos sounded confident that the updates would come along with the Shield updates. Even though it's only 1 GB, the processor is top of the line (for any price range). So I really hope Nvidia doesn't burn us.

I have the tegra note 7 (x3), nexus 7 2013, Nexus7 2012 (×2 but sold one and may sell the other one).
Been using the tegra note 7 mostly since I got it a while back in Dec 13. Reasonably happy with purchase enough to sell one of my nexus 7 2012 and may sell the other too.
Screen is about the same as nexus 7 2012. Speakers are great much better than nexus 7 2012 and Nexus7 2013 or my note 3 or s4. Back camera is Ok, hdr Mode is cool. Front camera is **** and Can't believe Nvidia even dreamt of putting such a lousy one. Haven't skyped with it but expect it to be lousy after brief testing the camera. Low light performance is obviously poor from both front and back cameras.
Pen is good and accurate and faster response than my note 1 phone or note 3. But pen apps are not as much as for note series.
Have two slide covers. Might be getting the extra Pens set from Newegg. Got the slide covers from pc world / currys UK like the tablet (£89.99 then using a code) . Plus usual other android accessories.
Hdmi micro output is useful. But all ports including hdmi usb have too much jiggling about of cable even after it is in so if device is not lying still then will lose connection. Pet adapter cable is SHORT.
Miracast Wireless screen mirroring works great. You can see my YouTube video from a month ago if interested in my tag line below. Will try to upload some more tegra note 7 videos this Weekend if I get the time.

Some gameloft games Eg newer haves work only with controllers and not even due to gameloft coding issue and older gameloft games work fine. Game controllers work fine.
Screen not an issue For browsing, movies, games, satnav.
Satnav works great with several mapping applications. Satellite lock faster with Google navigation than others irritatingly but once locked no issues later. Works great for hours of driving.
Will update more in my video review after using all these tablets for a while now (if I get the time this weekend). Thought of doing a quick review earlier but decided to use it for a while before making one. Been using mine for more than a month now.

Satnav works great with several mapping applications. Satellite lock faster with Google navigation than others irritatingly but once locked no issues later. Works great for hours of driving.
Will update more in my video review after using all these tablets for a while now (if I get the time this weekend). Thought of doing a quick review earlier but decided to use it for a while before making one. Been using mine for more than a month now.

I just have one question since you have both the note 7 and nexus 7 (2012). Can you tell me whats better in the note 7 and whats better in the nexus 2012 as I had nexus 7 2012 and was a great device, I just want quick comparison in few lines if you don't mind.

for me its defenitly the tn7. stylus is just awesome

So I have the tegra note 7 and I've owned other devices like both of the n7s, 10 inch tablets like transformers and galaxy note tabs.
This tablet is THE FASTEST tablet I have ever used.

-Stock android with a few OEM applications that are actually useful
-Pen Input
-One of the fastest SoCs out there, probably the most featured.
-instant HDR photos
-USB Digital to Analog Converters work out of the box, USB audio sounds good too.
-dedicated HDMI/miracast support
-The best value around at $199
Cons
-Front facing camera is very low resolution, like 640x480. I don't video chat much and even when I do I don't really care about these things, I'd actually prefer not to be in ULTRA HD while I've been lounging around the house unshaven. But still, 640x480 is quite low for a newer device, even if it is $199.
-Short USB cable. I really hate when OEMs get stingy over an extra 2-3 feet of cable.
-IPS displays illuminate blacks and sometimes have bad 'backlight bleeding' on the sides. I would have paid an extra hundred dollars for a display with better color balance than what IPS offers. The screen gets bright, and has good viewing angles/color balance for an IPS display, but at the end of the day it's still IPS. It fits the price of the tablet.
What can be seen as cons:
1280x800 resolution
I do not feel 220ppi is bad in any way shape or form. I can not see pixels even when I move it about 5 inches away from my face. The resolution works great on 7 inch tablets and reduces the strain on the GPU. This translates into higher FPS and a lighter GPU load, leaving a lot of computational power for the tablet to tap into when needed.
1 GB RAM
While I would prefer 2GB, I have grown used to 1GB. Here's a big misconception people make "More RAM is better". More RAM means more power draw, having high amounts of RAM can drop battery life. The way android handles RAM is to kill old processes when more memory is needed, this has worked for years with lower amounts of RAM because it means your most recent processes will always run at a higher priority.
The drawback to this, is that with resource-intensive applications open like games, you can lose old processes from days ago from memory. But I would argue that this is a good memory management scheme because it gets rid of apps you leave open for ages and forget to close, and gives more memory to your game so it doesn't lag. Now with more memory that old application would be around longer, sitting in memory, eating up energy until you close it, run out of memory, or open it again.
At the same time, some newer devices NEED more RAM. This is due to having a high resolution, on a 720p screen your UI elements may be 64x64, well on higher resolutions it goes up to 72x72, 96x96, 128x128, etc. This means that higher resolutions have higher memory requirements because their resources are larger. With a tablet like the tegra note 7, 1GB is okay for 720p resources. With a tablet like the 2013 nexus 7, it is not.
Other Thoughts
I am left handed and really love that Nvidia didn't forget about us lefties. The draw app included with the tablet has leftie optimization. I also love the placement of all the connectors, they are all on one side of the tablet. The settings app has a CPU menu where you can change from quad core mode to dual core mode and I liked that. I would have preferred to have the front facing camera in a closer location to the rear camera, so it doesn't get covered in landscape as easily.
But really, for $200?! It beats everything on the market right now, including the 2013 nexus 7. For any tablet that has a feature that edges out on the Tegra Note 7, the tegra note 7 has about 4-5 tricks the other tablets don't. I cannot complain at all for what I paid, this device will be fast for years to come once the AOSP builds come.

Looks like others have covered many points I agree with already.
Basically almost everything is better on the tegra note 7 than nexus 7 2012. Screen is debatable though.
Tegra note 7 is better ..... cpu, gpu, speakers, sd slot, pen, miracast, hdmi, back camera, Slide cover accessory.
Nexus 7 2012 is better. ... Faster software updates better grip while holding in one hand, front facing camera is better quality, battery life better than tegra note 7, can get 32gb internal storage unlike the tegra note 7, more accessories available.
Some other things.... Nexus 7 2012 although does not have miracast but can cast some apps to miracast receivers. Nexus7 2012 too has usb OTG support when used with nexus media importer app. The loud speakers on the tegra note 7 make it better as a sat nav in my experience.
Some things I don't like. ....
On the tegra note 7. .... random screen switches on. Ports have too much looseness Eg need to keep usb cable still add If you move Tablet then easily gets dislodged. Sane problem with hdmi. Both ports too close together and some cables might not fit together but other cables will fit.
On the Nexus7 2012. .. starts lagging like hell when full unlike the tegra note 7.
This is as short as I can get it.
If your want shorter then. ... Just buy the tegra note 7
Can't wait to ditch samsung note 3 to get a full specked tegra note phone if and when launched with premium features.

Everyone in here needs to realize something, there has to be a profit margin in ANY device sold. How much do you think it cost for just the bare Tegra 4 chip? I would guess $75-$100 OEM for just the chip itself and then you have roughly $99 more to build EVERYTHING else. I honestly only have 2 complaints with the TN7, 1GB of RAM and the Screen. For the cost though, I can't really say they are complaints, more just something I could point at as a short fall if asked to name some. Everything else is awesome, from sound to Tegra 4 speed.

I ordered mine and should be receiving it tomorrow. I noticed that the main issue is with both cameras which isn't important for me. What worries me is that most people aren't very happy with the screen but I guess I will have to wait and see myself. I am happy to see that the speaker and the styles are of very good quality.
I got mine from PCWORLD for 129.99£ I wish I knew about the 89.99 offer, I would have got two , anyway it is still a bargain.

I got my first Tegra Note from Aliexpress as soon as they were released, a Chinese Homecare model, the same company that manufactures all the version I hear. The problem was the tablet I got seemed to be poorly made. On day 0 I couldn't get the usb cable in. I realised most of my sockets were unaligned to the plastic case. Then there was missing Google Apps and the GPS didn't work so I needed to root and go into repair mode. After bending the USB connector up a little I could power and start work at making this tablet usable. Well within a few days I had a software bricked unit and the repair mechanisms like recovery and bootloader partitions were so limited on this model that I couldn't remedy. The moral to the story is buy local if you can.
I now have an EVGA Tegra Note and it's far better experience. The manufacturing is better and everything works bar the GPS which may come down to the satellite table being narrow.
Buyers should consider that Nvidia's Tegra Tablets are a new series using one of the fastest CPU cores around so if you want to be apart of this new cruise get onboard. It's only going to get better.

gps is non functional on this tablet, takes over half an hour to aquire a lock and looses it in 30 seconds.

Gps works fine on mine but slightly slower with new updates. Lock was faster before. Lock is faster with Google Navigation than other apps. Mine work fine in the UK for online and off line navigation using various sat nav apps for hours of driving to unfamiliar cities. Once locked have never lost a signal since I bought in December. I have compared it with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and nexus 7 2013 and For long journeys now mainly use tegra note 7 due to Good speakers. For short journeys I use my note 3.
Lock time is Ok with updates but was faster before. Only on 3 occasions lock took a while but rebooting device sorted it out.
Battery life is better with nexus 7 2013 and 2012 during navigation though than the tegra note 7.

Ok, I bought the Tegra and have had time to play around with it.
The USB cable it comes with fits loosely into the port. Other cables I've tried fit much better however.
The casing makes noise when I'm holding it. If my thumb is on one of the front facing speakers, iI can feel it compress slightly and its accompanied by a clicking sound. As I walk my fingers around the edge of the tablet and press down gently, I hear a slight clicking. I worry that the screen is going to come out of the plastic shell. And for this reason, I will not root this device until the warranty has expired. I should probably review the warranty sooner rather than later because I'm not sure of the details.
Overall I'm very happy with the purchase and performance of tthis tablet but I will update this post if needed.

Freeze!
I recently bought this tablet but was disappointed to find out that it froze quite often and had to be rebooted after every 15-20 minutes. The problem continues to persist even after upgrading to Android 4.3. Please help!

Freezing is an issue if apps are moved to sd card improperly. This causes freezing and reboot loops and low battery in my samsung devices. Have you moved apps to sd card. If so then remove sd card and see if problems resolved. If it is Ok without sd card then start deleting the apps one by one when in your tablet. If it crashes too often the insert the card into your laptop and delete the hidden Android folder which should sort the problem if it was due to improper moving of app to sd card

Thanks for the speedy reply. But I haven't even yet installed an sd card.. All I have done is install apps from playstore to the tablet's inbuilt memory.

Have you tried a factory reset. Did it sort the problem out. After factory reset install apps one by one and wait 15 to 20 mins to see if any of the apps wad causing the issue. Can't think of anything else to suggest. If problem continues then I would get an exchange or refund if I were you.
