It's weird because it finds my Wifi at home ok, but using my S3 as a hotspot right next to it only gets me like 1 bar.

i used the WIFI analyzer and i found out that i was using the weakest channel on my router for wifi! so I was able to change channels to a much stronger wifi strength

My nexus7 reception remains very strong also, throughout my entire house. I also have the tf201 and the nexus7 blows it out of the water. Wifi analyzer shows a good 30% more signal on my n7 vs my tf201. Additionally, GPS signal is very solid as well. I get 7 birds in house and 11 as soon as i walk outside.

WiFi analyzer cannot help me change channels on my Galaxy SIII. That's where I see poor reception. At just a few feet away too.

If I hold it in portrait orientation and cover the left side of the tablet (top 1/3) my reception drops 1-2 bars. It increases again when I move my hand away. I noticed this when I was lying on the couch with the tablet resting on my chest in portrait mode, and I had my left hand holding the tablet at the top left side. If I held it on the right-hand side (with my right hand) and moved my left hand away from the tablet then my reception improved. Put my left hand back up, signal strength decreased. This only happens if I'm far away from the wifi source. If I'm close to the source then my hand position doesn't seem to affect the reception at all.

Not sure if you have had a chance to see the internal layout of the Nexus 7 but that area is exactly where the wifi antenna is located. I have noticed the same signal drop (10–20db on wifi analyzer). It is worse in landscape because your hand naturally rests there. But it hasn't been too much of an issue. I had my router transmitting at 30mW and just kicked it up to 80mW and I am good to go. I remind myself for $200, the Nexus is good but still far from perfect. If you look into the reason this device was built, it makes sense. Its sole purpose is to drum up tablet software developement for android, not so much to be an iPad killer, that is still to come.

My N7 wireless is good. I am comparing it with my Samsung Galaxy S2 which is much weaker than the N7 across the whole house. Mind you I am using a good wireless router 7800N from Billion which has got good wireless ratings.

My wifi reception is poorer than both my HTC Desire Z phone and laptops etc, judged by it losing reception in the furthest room in the house (approx 15m from the router, in a pretty solid Victorian house).

As suggested by other users, I think really worth to install wifi analyzer from Google Play then you can see a direct comparison rather than looking at the bars. Solid walls are not good for wifi and it is only fair if you compare distance base on line of sight. If you are using 802.11n 2.4Ghz then try different channels and also try changing channel width to 20Mhz can improve it but dropping from 40Mhz will reduce the max possible speed to 150Mbps.

wifi on any asus made tablet I owned has been never as good as other brands....stil works great but never full bars like my laptop or any apple product I own. Maybe its a android thing as my android phones are the same weak wifi. Nothing bad just less bars.

Depending on the model of your router, you might look into flashing DD-WRT on it (think of it as analogous to flashing a custom ROM on your phone/tablet). There are options to increase range on it.

The nexus 7 has very good signal strength and I get full bars while sitting 15 feet away from router with no walls. I can't try more than this distance because that's how big my room is and if I go outside of room then the walls comes in between and of course the strength drops.
Screen shot attached with full bars.

Wifi sucks on this tablet
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

So far in the week I've had my n7... WiFi is notably weaker than on my laptop or iPad in the same locations so I suspect they've compromised on the aerial during design and construction. I can't determine if it suffers from an apple style 'grip of death' issue but I try holding it in different ways to see if it helps.

My wifi is awesome until I try to stream an HD YouTube video then it buffers like crazy. Very annoying. Anyone got a fix??
Sent from my Nexus 7

I've tested my Nexus 7 with 5 access points at the house with great signal and speed, and at work which has a large roving WiFi system with equally the same response.
If your access point is properly configured you should have no problems.

Issues with SII

I got my SII just 2 days back. However its very good but there are few issues :
1) Battery is draining very fast.
2) WIFI signal is very weak. I am using SII just few meters away from router in apartment and signal is very weak. Earlier I used Nexus one and it was getting good signal with same router.
Also when screen locks Wifi goes to sleep and also on unlocking wifi is off most of times.
If there any fix for Wifi.
3) GPS is not at all accurate. I tried GPS from my appartment and it always show position fem kms away. Nexus one was showing accurate position.
Is there any fix for GPS?
4) Are there any custom images for SII available like CM for Nexus one ?
5) Can we root SII? How much safe is it root the SII? Is there any possibility in bricking the phone while rooting? What advantages will I get after rooting?
If you guys have any idea , please respond.
Thanks in advance.

This phone is brand new. There are no images for it yet [the dev community can only work with the phone once its released.. they're good, but not THAT good].
Read about rooting in the dev forum. Rooting gives you the ability to access and alter system files. If you don't know what you're doing, I'd suggest you not doing it. I'd especially warn against it since you don't know what you're doing and you don't want to ruin your rather expensive new toy. Once the tools are a bit more streamlined, go for it.
GPS problems are hit and miss. Consider yourself unlucky. See if you can arrange an exchange with the store you purchased the phone from.
Read the battery drain threads. You also may need to exchange. I haven't read enough about that, though.
So regarding battery and GPS , these are hardware specific problems or software?
Can these be fixed via software in future upgrades?
Wifi settings, menu button, advanced, wifi sleep policy, set to never. This is the proper setting and is better for battery life.
I don't know why android phones continue to come from the factory with this setting wrong like this.
From the GPS problems, it sounds like your device doesn't have a satellite lock yet and is using cellphone tower location. You could try turn on wifi location which will probably give you the usual instant location of your flat, or try wait a bit near a window for the device to pick up satellites.
your in a apartment building and your expecting to get a GPS lock?!?!
there is usually a range where i test my wifi connection to see if it works good or not in my home.
and GS2 is the only phone besides iphone 4 that managed to connect from that far away
i tried other iphones 4 and some of them wernt able to connect. or connect then disconnect. but my last iphone 4 never disconnects. and the same with my GS2.
who knows if i get another GS2 unit it might not connect. which makes me believe some devices are not as good/defective.
my brother's nexus S cant stay connected. it will be out of range for it.
so i think you have a problem with your wifi
i couldnt test my gps. i dont know how to test it. can someoen give me a code to test the gps ? i dont use it at all but its good to know that your phone is working lol..

No coffee either? I just took my SgS2 back to the store, it wouldnt let me play Call of Duty Black Ops, it refused to load the dishwasher, and then it had the nerve to ask for power?!! Really, what kind of phone is this? I'm going back to my iNoob! device
On a serious note
Hi Guys
on a serious note, and aside of what has been mentioned before. I had the SGS I before and i promised myself not to buy another samsung phone when i sold it. it might have worked well after you installed a custom ROM, but my experience was with official ROMs, and i am a firm believer that given the SH$$$T load of money a person pays for a high end phone, the damn thing should work out of the box
After all the hype about the SGS II and people claiming it is BLAZINGLY fast with no lag, and that the previous problems with the SGS I have been resolved, I am thinking on buying an SGS II but would like to ask guys with experience to answer this:
1- Has the lag problem been REALLY solved in this phone (EXT4 versus RFS), i have seen some guys reporting that pressing the home button takes around 3 seconds to close an application
2- Are there any deal breakers or have you noticed through your usage some major bugs
3- Are there any solid comparisons between the MALI 400 and the ADRENO 220 GPUs to show which one is better (yeah i am trying to compare the SGS II and the Sensation)
4- Everyone is reporting how good the screen is, do you recommend it or should i wait till 960x540 screens come out
5- how easy it is to connect the phone to the PC and sync your media/contacts/calendar
I am not a fan boy of any brand, just trying to make a good decision on which phone to buy since my money does not come easy
Thanks

For the first and only time on an internet forum, I feel compelled to use the language of the teenager.
Because, I am, literally....LOL
Thanks bilbao1 - made my day!
Everyone bashing his GPS issue, while I agree, he did says his nexus one DOES show accurate in his place. So if the galaxy is not matching same performance then there may be a problem.
Even with cell approximation, a few kilometers is too far away to be correct I think.
To my eyes there also appears to be slight color banding issues. On the o2 log on and log off screens its most prominent but you can also see it in the windmill live wallpaper screen shot below. Is this normal or have I been handed a lemon?

TBH: The screenshot doesn't do justice to the colour banding/ gradient issue. However Its very much apparent. Even more so on the dark grey background of the Neural Net Live wall paper. The effect is similar to having a 24bit/ 16 bit wall paper on a 65K colour display - gradient colur banding especially visible with grey/ blue gradients.

1 - the thing with Android is it is really unconstrained. extremely easy for anyone to mess their phone up by installing some software or enabling some stupid services. I can 99.9% confirm the lag is non-existent. The only place with "some" lag is widgets, but I think it is more related to how they are rendered. Now, if you install some crazy **** or just too many normal ****s, you could get lag.
2 - some MINOR kinks as always can be found. For example:
a) the Calendar widget - when you try to scroll through homescreens with this widget on one of them, it switches the day to whatever day you touched while scrolling the screen. It is like this widgets cannot see a swipe from a tap.
b) if you phone is locked you can long-press the power button to see the power-off menu, and in there you can disable/enable data to save power , but it just messes up the settings (if the screen is locked when you attempted it). I think this problem was present on SGS1 too , but not sure.
c) the wireless signal in my area (New York City) is crappy, I get annoyed with all those edge <-> gprs <-> 3g <-> H <-> H+ random switches throughout the day, depending on where I am within a small city block This is not phone's fault.
d) - could be more, just wrote down whatever I recalled. nothing major yet though.
4 - my screen is good. some people complain of issues with theirs though. Wait for high res or buy this one - it is really up to you. If I had a working SGS1 I would have waited for SGS2.5 that is supposedly out in the autumn.

you can't see that in a screenshot. screenshot does not take "exactly whats on your screen". it takes the software representation and that's that. the software represention is unique and never modified (unless you modify it by hand with photoshop etc of course).
it means if you show it on various screens you will always have a different result because no screen are equal (although calibrated ones have less difference, and very good ones makes it very hard to spot any difference, but the point remains)
the only way to "show" a bad effect from a bad screen would be to really picture the screen.
Yes, I do realize the problem here but I don't have a camera at the moment to take a picture of the screen.
However till such time I was wondering if any one can confirm if they see visible banding on screens with single color gradients like the neutral net wp background or the blue background of the o2 log screen?

Nexus 7 Maximum wifi speed?

Hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me figure this out.
I was wondering what the theoretical maximum download speed for the nexus 7 is. When testing my internet connection (speedtest.net) on my pc my download speed is 70Mbps, upload is 10Mbps, which is also my maximum speed (I live 3km away from my provider) When running the test on my nexus 7 with their speed test app downloaded via Google play, I only get around 30-33mbps. Sometimes I'll get a speed of 36 and the highest I've gotten in 40, but this only happens VERY rarely. So I've been trying to figure out if something is set up wrong.
I tried:
different channels from 1 until 11 (12 and 13 don't work)
20 and 40hz, and both simultaneously.
set the router to operate on b/g/n as well as N only
Security is wpa2
inkspeed on the tablet says 65Mbps
Distance : standing next to the router
My router is a netgear R6300. (http://www.netgear.com/R6300#two)
My question is, am I an idiot for thinking that I'm not getting max speed, while ~33mbps is the actual maximum speed that the nexus 7 is capable of. Or am I having connection issues. If so what steps could I take to solve them.
You have my thanks,
One reason I can think of is nexus 7 can not use the 5mhz band in your router, thats why you may be getting half speeds than you are expecting.

I thought about that as well, but my router support wifi N up to 450Mbps on the 2.4ghz freq, so I'm not really sure that's a limiting factor.
70Mbps download. That's fast.

It's relatively slow We have fiber 500 down and 500 up available here, but It's not yet available in my particular area. I bought the router for that reason. Thanks for testing that out, I figured as much. I found another thread where someone mentions that he's also maxing out at around 33mbps.
Although a bit further down the topic, a guy posted a screenshot of his nexus 7 achieving ~47 mbps. Guess he got lucky?..

Your speeds are actually alright. The n7 doesn't have good wifi imo. I am connected to a 100/2 connection in Australia (fastest consumer connection available to my knowledge lol) and I only get about 25/2 on my n7.

Kind of sucks that google went cheapo on the wifi. Would have hoped they would have at least went the 5ghz route. But at least it confirms that there is nothing wrong with my router or wifi settings, but that the nexus 7 just maxed out at ~33Mbps. Surprisingly my GSII does 40~42Mbps.

That must be pretty annoying! Here in Australia, most people have connections around the 10/1 mark which is actually a joke for a developed metropolitan area. Luckily fibre infrastructure upgrade are under way!
I live in a metropolitan and manage fine with my 4/0.5 amidst all the fibre optic and vdsl.
Admitted, 0.5 upload does get annoying in some cases. But hey, it's cheap as hell and unlimited bandwidth!

Thats the problem with connections here. They are not cheap and offer limited bandwidth. i.e. my mate is on an adsl2+ connection that only manages 4 down and 0.7up. He pays $70 a month for 200gb.

Wow... I pay 35 and that includes unlimited calls to landlines, national and international.
People here are always complaining how we're overcharged for our network, compared to for instance the Netherlands. And it did take me quite a while to get this deal, literally the cheapest in the country.
But 70 for the same speeds with a 200gb limit, that seems insane!

Our internet here is pretty cheap indeed, since it also comes combined with a land line and a tv package. Prices for our mobile network are of the charts tho'.
hey guys.. i was only getting 10 or so meg down on my 50+ meg connection and I wanted to let you know I fixed it to get what you are getting by removing my bluetooth connection. Turns out, the bluetooth and wifi are handled by one chip so when its busy handing a bluetooth connection, it chops down the download speed of the wifi! So, if you dont need the bluetooth connection, dont use it. (I was using tablet talk to my phone over bluetooth, i swithched it to wifi and that fixed it)
51 mbps max
Hey guys, i live in IIT Delhi, INDIA. Via ethernet we get 100 down and 70-80up (100/70). But my nexus 7 2013 maxes out at 51mbps only. I checked using galaxy s5, s5 showed 90 download. So it is pretty much confirmed they put a limit, or maybe the technology is out dated...

Loosing Hope

Hey Guys. out of curiosity does anyone know what nvidia's official stance is on the wifi issues we are having on our tablets?
i bought mine on the day of release in the UK. and basicaly since then it has had horiffic wifi. the recent update went some way to help aleveate some of the issues, but it dosesnt fix it. my LG G3 get a very good signal on both 2G & 5G wifi in my bathroom, but my tablet will not get signal on either.
im starting to loose hope... anyone else feel the same?
Cheers! Kieran.

RMA?
I tested mine, and the wi-fi is as good as my Nexus 5 and 7. Don't think I can ask more than that.
My wifi hasn't been bad been struggling keeping the controller connected. It sporadically drops connection, so I guess that a a wifi issue. I was just going to wait til they fixed the case cracking issue and swap it out then, hopefully they would have fixed the wifi or fingers crossed even put the new k1 in it...
I've gotten a replacement with stronger wifi but the screen is more yellow so it had to go back.
Top is note 10.1 2014. Bottom left is replacement and right is original.

Try going into settings and turning display to native instead of srgb.

yeah. its funny. i decided to but this over an iPad mini because i really didnt want to fall back in the the relm of iOS. and apart from the wifi issues. its actually a fantastic tablet.
I'm sure many will disagree but I still think that only some units are plagued by the WiFi issues. I have had two shield tablets and neither had a single WiFi issue. Signal never drops, even on campus with the crappiest WiFi I've ever used. This tablet actually gets better signal then my lg g2. No matter where I put my hands, I can't seem to noticeably effect my signal.

When did you get your tablet?I am wondering if this issue only affect certain old production batch.
I just ordered the tablet last week and should get it today.

I bought the first one the day it came out from Nvidia (7/29). Unfortunately it had a display driver issue you can see here: Shield tablet screen defect: http://youtu.be/PUP_zAgpbxs
Although the screen didn't work properly, the WiFi was perfect. I returned it and bought another from GameStop. This one has zero issues. Best tablet I have owned (coming from nexus 7 1st gen, tf300t and a galaxy tab pro 8.4)

Ah, that looks like a hardware issue. Maybe a bad unit.
So I assume you got the replacement around September?

I sent the defected one back and bought another at GameStop probably the first or second week of august. So I got it well over a month ago. Sadly, I just noticed my first crack on the seam. Top left corner.
I posted this in the Nvidia forum as well.
I've tested the wifi on my tablet in a bunch of different ways using ookla speed test and general chrome browsing. I have come to pretty much the same conclusion most people in here have. The wifi is weaker than most other wifi devices but this will not be noticed in an ideal wifi setup. For folks with less than ideal wifi setups, they are affected more.
There are a few caveats to my test: I am not using gamestream, so I can not comment on that. And I have such low wifi speed from my ISP (30mbps), that I can not test 5ghz top download speeds vs 2.4ghz top download speeds (because they both easily top out at 30mbps).
I want to go over the things that have improved my wifi performance.
1: Switching to 2.4ghz wifi. This has made the biggest difference for me. Paul Deemer was saying that not using 5ghz wifi is the best for the ST and I agree. I will switch to 5ghz when I gamestream and switch it back to 2.4ghz when I'm done gamestreaming (when I finally get my gaming PC back next month).
If you do need to use 5ghz wifi, see below for other improvements.
2: Using a wifi analyzer app to set my wifi channels up. My apple router is supposed to do this automatically, but when I used the wifi analyzer app I noticed that my channels were crowded.
I set my 2.4ghz wifi channel to an empty channel and I got a full bar more wifi strength in my living room. I set my 5ghz wifi to the highest channel I possibly could (I think 160) and I got a full bar more wifi strength in my living room as well.
3: Avoiding the wifi antenna. This only affects 5ghz wifi for me. When I use 2.4ghz this issue goes away.
http://youtu.be/7v3AR6gZNYQ
4: Using a cover. The cover seems to keep you hand from interfering with the wifi antenna. This is not a total fix, but it does help. Just like in this video at 6:30.
Wifi Death Grip Samsung Galaxy S4 Workaround: http://youtu.be/ySIUuMAvduM
5: Moving your router. If you're having wifi issues you could always try moving your router. I will be moving my router to my living room where I eventually will be gamestreaming.
All of this stuff has been talked about before in this thread and others. I just hope to help anyone out who is still having wifi issues.
Out of Curiosity, what would be the process to get your device returned to nvidia? mine is well out of its standard 14day money back ( UK ) and im guessing id need to go straight to nvidia.

Does your GPS work indoors?

So folks this is my 7th note 4.....all of the earlier phones had some issues i actually decided never to buy another note 4 but i couldn't resist trying my luck the 7th time.
So in this phone everything works fine except i can't get a GPS lock while i am indoor...it keeps waiting for gps lock.... i don't live in a multistory building nor are the walls too thick. However while outside when the phone has a clear line of sight with sky the GPS locks on and works just fine with navigation. Is your note 4 like this aswell? can you get a lock on while indoors?

Thanks for the reply....but mine is way different i can almost never get a lock indoors.....outside it works just fine. Maybe poor GPS antenna i wonder if i am the only one or if this issue is widespread. I have 910F snapdragon version.
I don't think any GPS system will work indoors as the electromagnetic interference caused by the internal wiring in the building will make it very difficult to receive any GPS sate little signals. Of course I haven't tried to use the GPS functions of my Note 4 N910C indoors yet, however I have used it in my car and it managed to get a GPS signal lock instantaneously. I even managed to keep the GPS signal when I drove into a short tunnel.

Can you please check it indoors and report if it works?
AFAIK GPS satellites need line of sight to work. If indoors or in a blocked view from satellites, the wifi/mobile networks positioning system can work to estimate your location.

It's line of sight, yes, but not visible. It is UHF (remember the old tvs had UHF and VHF) which has some limited penetration capabilites. Your cell towers and 2.4Ghz WiFi fall into this same frequency range.
Try the app 'GPS test' to see which satellites your receiver can currently pick up indoors.

As expected, using GPS Test app, my phone cannot get a gps fix while indoors. Outside there's no problem. GPS can only work where there is line of sight.
While indoors, apps can still estimate your location using wifi/mobile networks as I mentioned in my previous post.

Well i tried that and i dont seem to be getting signals from any satellites while indoor.....it keeps searching and after like 5 miutes a single bar may show up but as soon as i step under clear sky gps gets a lock on under 10 seconds. This is sad ........my cheap J1 sees and locks on to satellites while indoor

Thanks for testing and reporting i believe we have a faulty Gps antenna in our phones i tested indoor with samsung J1 and gets a lock on. Outside gps works fine on note 4 but it does not work indoors which is an indicator that the gps signals reception on this thing is not as good as it is on other phones.

I've just tried to use the GPS functions on my N910C indoors and I can honestly say that it will not connect to any GPS satellite indoors. I actually tested this quite thoroughly for a good few minutes, Sygic was not able to get a signal from any GPS satellite however when I went outdoors that all change. I was able to get a GPS signal instantaneously.
In utube, there are many videos showing note 4 has the worst gps from many other popular phones.
I use note 4 for running with gps (runtastic app). It is bad, many mistakes showing not good reception. Probably due to metallic bezel. From the phones i had it was from best to worst in gps:
galaxy s2>galaxy s5>note 4>lg g2
Yes s2 had the best gps..
Mine fixed in 1 sec indoors according to GPS test.
I will say this phone is way worse than my nexus 5 was. I could keep a lock in the car cup holder. This phone jumps around constantly even on the dash.

This is true but someone just reported that his GPS locks indoor even during strom so there are "Good Gps note 4s" out there. Another thing i just noticed today is while playing music on bluetooth in my car the audio skips for a fraction of second every 2-3 minutes....also tested at home with other bluetooth speakers.

I see that this post is a year and a half old, but here's a fix in case anyone is still interested: see last post in this thread.
This solution worked perfectly on my Note 4. It's like new again. All the other "solutions" i found around the internet did nothing, but this solution did the trick. Incidentally, my battery life has improved tremendously as well (I presume this is because the phone isn't constantly trying to get a satellite lock).

Perhaps this fix for the V10 would resolve your issue. I've used it with a noticeable improvement on my V20, and it alters the devices use of wifi frequencies so it may have the desired effect.
Also giving your 2.5ghz and 5ghz networks seperate names should also help.

Not sure, I have a HD990DS and it connects properly to my 5 GHz channel on my ASUS DSL-AC68U router
I can't see any 5GHz wifi networks either on my V20. I have different SSIDs for my 5GHz access points, and I don't see them at all, even with my phone up close!
I have a brand new V20 990DS, fresh out of the box, no updates applied (in fact, I disabled them as I didn't want to jeopardise getting root), on Android 7.0 software version V10c-TWN-XX
I don't understand how LG could have messed this up. Or other problems such as slow internet.
I may just keep buying the phone from different places and hope I'll end up getting a decent one soon.
I really like this phone with the duel screen and the DAC. One of the best phones I think you can get if the WI-FI actually worked.
Thanks Ben
well, this is odd. I only got my V20 yesterday and I couldn't put my SIM in until it was cut down; I got it cut down today and put it straight into my phone. When I got home, I found by chance that my V20 could now see my 5GHz band access point*.
I don't think I've done anything else that might have made it work, other than unsuccessfully attempt to root it. Is it possible that my phone didn't know what worldwide jurisdiction it was in so wouldn't turn on 5GHz wifi until it knew, which it would have found from the SIM?
I have one of these * Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-AC-PRO. Best thing I ever bought, ditching random dd-wrt boxes.

That's really odd! I've never heard that before. I haven't put a sim I it yet as it wasn't working properly, so I just got a replacement which also didn't work. I'll try that tomorrow and put a new sim in it.
Does everything work now then? I've heard people say that on some of them that the Internet speed is slow, is that happening as well?
Thanks Ben
I just compared speedtest app between my laptop (which doesn't have 802.11ac, but does have .11a/5GHz. My internet connection is 35 down, 5.5 up.
Laptop (64 bit linux) gets 32.3M down, 4.8M up, which is quite respectable
LG V20 gets 22M down, 5.1M up.
Xperia Z Ultra gets 28.6 down, 4M up.
I know speedtest results can vary a lot, I ran it several times on the V20 and it struggled to get much over 20M, yet the upload was as good as any other device.
On a hunch, I took the back off the V20 and held it a little more loosely, and it had no problem getting 31M down, same upload, so pretty good! I suspect therefore that it'd be worth looking for a replacement cheap back for the V20 that's entirely plastic!
Ok well that's really odd again then. If LG knew that the back would interfere with connection then why just why.
LG's quality control is really bad.
Lol. Nothing to do with QC, more R&D and engineering.
Anyway I think you'll find the antennas are in the head- and/or chin-pieces which are made of silicon polycarbonate (plastic) and therefore no barrier to signal reception.
That's what I thought too that the bumpers have the antenna's in them. But then how would you explain the 10mbps increase? Because it makes no sense at all from my current understanding.
Also have you seen all the posts saying that they've had bad Internet speeds usually getting around 30 while another phone is getting 100-200 etc? It's all surrounding the WI-FI module. That's a QC issue.
It's not that I don't like LG either, I've had an LG G3 for 3 years and have never had a problem. In fact I could have brought an samsung s7 Edge for the same price but liked the LG more.
the problem is that the tech bloggers who review phones go through various fashions. All glass phones. All metal phones. Thin/light phones. Super high-res displays.
as a result we end up with phones that are..
* fragile (all glass),
* have poor radios (mobile signal is poor, or wifi is weak),
* have poor battery life (too thin for bigger battery),
* have poor battery (lots of CPU and GPU power to drive high-res displays).
meanwhile, the tech blogger who had the phone for only weeks, or days, or even hours, has moved on, and doesn't have to live with the phone's compromises.
You think the OEMs manufacture phones to suit bloggers?

DOWNLOAD 80.15Mb/s
UPLOAD 85.03Mb/s
PING 13 ms
RATING 5/5 Stars
DEVICE LG-H990
ISP VERIZON FIOS
SERVER SOMERVILLE, MA
I had the same problem, after changing the channel from auto to 40, I could find the 5Ghz. signal on the Phone.
Changed my Speedtest from 20Mbps to 125Mbps!!
Can confirm that putting a sim card in the phone gets the 5ghz to work again but unfortunately it's slower than what it should be getting.
It's gets around 30 to 70 and is really inconsistent. It should be getting around 200 like some of my other devices.
I've sent this one back to get a replacement and hopefully that one works.
I've sent this message 3 times and and each time it got messed up
Thanks Ben
