Asus tf300 - Transformer TF300T General

Just received my brand new TF300. So far I'm very impressed! Everything is running smooth as silk, unlike my TF101 with ICS LWP are choppy, not on the TF300. Its only been a few hours so I cant tell if it is plagued with reboots or SOD yet. But I will keep everyone updated if it does. I bought this one for my Wife, and I wish I would have waited before buying my TF101. Its sleek, lighter, tad more comfortable to hold. I like the power button placement and just the general looks of it. The Tegra 3 is now a new must have, 1gig of DDR3 ram, 32 gig memory. All for the same price as I paid for my TF101, you really cant go wrong buying the TF300 instead. One thing about ASUS that I'm not happy with is their QC. I went through 2 TF101's before getting one that didnt have crap under the screen. Same with this one... its not bad enough to send this one back but it was the first thing I noticed. A little tiny silver dot that isn't going to wipe off. Can hardly tell its there with the screen off, but I was looking really hard for it. Screen on no problems, light bleed on the screen is still and Issue as well. Its not bad but on a really black screen its noticeable. All in all I'm really happy with this purchase. I know ASUS doesn't have the greatest track record with some of there products. But I've spent a lot of time playing with all of the tablets that are out there. IMHO Asus has the best out there. Asus and Nvidia will eventually get the bugs worked out of the 101 but in the mean time I think that even if the other tabs don't have reboots and sod's I still wouldn't buy one. Don't get me wrong I'm not an Asus fanboy, but I do believe they have some of the best hardware out there. Its really and amazing Tablet especially compared to the TF101, and I assume the Prime too as wifi and gps work great! Now I hope Root will be easily achievable, Going to try viper from the prime and see it that works, will report Back.
Edit: Viper 4.5 does not work. oh well at least it didn't break it!

Actually I cancelled my pre-order because despite the new quadcore chips on the Asus, I have not seen any substantial app development to justify the purchase of the 300. As far as spec, the Tegra 3 is the only difference between it and the 101. For what I'm doing at the moment, the 101 is more than capable. Also, Nvidia keeps advertising about the 'boatload' of Tegra3 games coming soon, where is it?
I will save my money for now, the TF101 is still the best bang for the buck.

I picked mine up today at Best Buy. They only had the 16GB version, and I would have preferred the 32GB version since its only $20 more, but I couldn't wait any loner and since I have a 32GB memory cars, I have no issues with space.
So far I can't say I like it more than my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I find the screen to be a little washed out, and the screen is not as responsive as Samsung. I find myself hitting the screen multiple times. This might go back. I'll give it a few more days.
Swyped from my Samsung Epic 4g Touch with a bite of VeNuM.

Hell where are all the Tegra 2 games at! LOL!!! For my needs the 101 is perfect and I personally don't need a quad core either, but if I didn't already have one and had to choose between the two I would go for the TF300. Don't forget the TF101 only has DDR2 Ram and the TF300 has DDR3 and at 399 for the 32gig, its a no brainier. I paid 399 for my 16gig 101 five months ago, so I kinda feel ripped off!!! I would pass up the prime for this one, Its just not worth the extra 150 bucks.
Ive been comparing them all day and the TF300 is getting better battery life then my 101 on ICS. I have the screen brightness about the same. I'm just really impressed on how well it runs. Its like greased butter in an rocket sled running down hill. HAHA been doing stupid stuff like installing the same apps at the same time the 300 will install twice as fast. wifi seems to have a stronger signal, gps connected in about 10 sec. slow but its been cloudy and raining here all day so 10 sec is very good. Just happy with my purchase and I'm sure most others will be happy too.

Does the 300 play hd mkv files? Also whats the difference between 300 and 700? Other than the 1080p screen res on700

The 300 is the downside of the Prime while the 700 is the upside. In addition to a 1.6ghz quadcore and 1900x1200 res, I'm hoping that Asus will make the 700 into 10" and 12" tablets with full usb, e-sata, hdmi, wireless joystick, and wireless keyboard ports. That would really blow the pants out of the Ipad.

Screw tegra 3. Give me 4gb of ram and stability and I'll be as happy as a pig in ****.

Apart from the rather mediocre video playback, the TF is more than enough for my needs.
Although Im a little bit annoyed that I didnt wait buying a new tablet until the TF300 came out. They are listed at the same price! lol
But thats my own fault. I knew there were new tegra3 tablets due to release in late april/early may.
And I dont regret getting the 101. But still......

I just bought this tablet, it should be here on my doorstep by Thursday. The TF300 is going to be my first Android tablet so I hope that I'm going to be happy with it.

I was interested in the Transformer 300, for those that have both the 300 and the OG, would stuff like browsing the web be faster? Basically the difference is the Tegra 3 chip (is this mostly for games??) For now the OG TF will do for me, at least for another yr when hopefully the upgrade will really be felt.

The faster chip allows newer games that run smoother and have better graphics but so far Tegra 3 games are few and far in between. Browsing speed depends not only on the tablet but also on the wifi connection. The 101 does everything for me, great multimedia device that plays HD movies and Tegra 2 games. I will wait until the next generation of tablets come out, quadcores are still in development stage.

Just to prove the high demand for the TF101, Newegg is sold out of the 32gb refurbished, while Amazon sells brand new 32gb TF101 for $549.99 tablet only. That's $150 more than a brand new 32gb TF300 with a faster 1.2ghz Tegra 3 chip. People are definitely buying this tablet over the more recent models. Go figure.

Already there something wrong with the wifi...
On another thread..... try this turn your wifi and go 25 feet away from AP and check what it does .....

i took mine about 40ft away and had it there for 10mins. still shows full wifi bars no matter how i turn/hold it. im also on power save mode as well. connection is working and streaming hd youtube with no issues. hmm
my wireless router is a linksys wrt54g running regular linksys firmware. with my phone and desktop connected to it.

I ordered a 300 from newegg but I will send it back and get a used 101 off of ebay($239), seeing how newegg is sold out of the refurbs, and see if the 700 will rule. I read the 700 will be 3G and LTE capable.

I just picked up a 300 and the dock. I'm hoping for somw development soon because I'd love to root it.
Edit: If you bought yours from best buy(16gb) and they get the 32gb version in within 30 days you can return it and pay the difference the two.

Considering the terrible luck many of us had with the tf101, you're likely going to need that warranty for your TF300. You got a good deal, but you might be stuck with a problem unit and then what?

You can buy a brand new 101 for $299 at an unnamed store right now. I am debating between that for a Galaxy Tab 2 tomorrow. I like 7 inch tablets, and looked at them both today at Bestbuy for comparison before I drive out of my way to this store. Screen is definately nicer on the Transformer. I wont use for gaming, so is this a no brainer? Transformer or Gtab 2?

[Q] still interesting to buy galaxy tab

Hello people
I am looking to buy a tablet, and I can not afford the newest one simply because they are too expensive.
I may be able to get the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" and I was wondering if it was still worth it.
Is it the screen very responsive? Is it fast? Is 2.3 that important and should I look for a newer one, or is this product still good in terms of browsing the web, documents, some games, music?
And between this and the Toshiba Folio, bearing in mind the Folio is much cheaper, which would you pick? (or do you have another suggestion? I live in France)
Thank you for your answers
i've never heard of the folio before. i just googled it, hands off!
I also have little money. that's why i first imported the nook color (250$ + 120€ (shipping & german tax & customs)), its a very good tablet, bit I had problems with the display and I wanted a tablet with more connectivity (3g, gps, camera etc.)
I've sold the nook and bought the sgt used for 295€ at ebay.de.
it actually was cheaper than importing the nook and I hope that I will be happy with it.
I dont recommend any cheap android tablets, they all have a big list of cons. the only cheap android tablet you can get is the nook, but its only cheap if you live in the us.
i dont have my sgt yet, but from what i hear and i read its seams to be the most capable and cheapest high quality tablet out there.
The folio is highly recommended not to get! trust me toshiba sucks in the mobile industry. it has many bugs reported just like my TG01. They even cancelled the product line up here in the UK. Personlly i find my tab slow + laggy. You need a dual core tablet to power the mighty screen. I would get the HTC Flyer if i were you.
Mine flys
Stock the tab is fast enough to get work done. I did the KhasMek Voodoo Plus v3 OC kernal mod and the tab flys now. I have a Xoom also and this kernal for the SGT made it faster than my Xoom. The screen is also very responsive. Personally I think this is a fantastic tablet it just works with no fuss. Although, if I keep messing with it, that may no longer be the case. Mine is running 2.2 and I have no desire to put 2.3 on it any time soon. Not that it means allot Quadrant is running between 2100 and 2300 for my SGT. My Xoom runs it 1800 to 1900.
Good luck in your search.

I just got my Sprint Tab a couple of days ago and I love it. I already had an iPad but wanted something different and more portable. Its plenty fast and responsive and just really seems to hit the sweet spot for me.
I replace my Archos 70 8GB with Galaxy Tab Wifi ($390.- at local shop in Bangkok). It is much better than my Archos which I think it was a great product.
The screen is very responsive and the LCD quality is excellent (PLS technology).
I don't find it laggy at all. Only negative area is it can't play HD video. (Galaxy Tab 3G use more powerful CPU/Chip). It's superb in other areas.
The tab is rock solid on Froyo! Yes the stock lags at times but till date it had yet to crash or freeze...with Roto JMIv2 the thing flies!
Am absolutely in love with it and if I had the money I would buy another one...the 7 inch size and Froyo is darn good....I don't understand at all what the people who complain about Froyo being not optimized for tablet are talking about...!!! All apps I have loaded till date works great! I watch movies anime and tv show on this...my netbook is lying in storage since I got this and when on personal travel I shove the tab into the camera bag with the kindle and off I go...
Pop in a sim card and I can surf the net anywhere...much better than surfing on a tiny screen on a mobile phone...
Am never going to consider anything above 7 inch and without being SIM enabled.

I've had mine GT for about a month and really enjoy it. Easier to haul around than a Netbook, or in Ipad or Xoom even.
I had a Nook, but didn't like it as the screen was of cheap quality(the whites had a yellow tint to it(tried another, it was the same). The whites on the GT are WHITE no doubt about it. Build quality is very solid on the GT.
However, if you are on a budget, nook is fairly solid with the proper software roms.
But the GT is very solid and even with the release of the WIFI version only soon, it will bring even more users in the fold.
There is a lot of people holding off for the "Next best thing" but, honestly, I'd rather be playing and using something now, instead of waiting 6 months or so to play with something that May or May not kick ass.
Dive right in, the GT water is fine.
;
I believe Galaxy Tab is now the best 7" tablet in the market (Archos 70 is the second, IMO); both spec/performance-wise and build quality. The price is also coming down to a more acceptable level.
I don't see any new 7" model coming out in the near future. If you are looking for a portable table, Galaxy Tab won't disappoint you.
I had my Tab for 2 months now and couldn't be happier with it. I do have the Overcome ROM and over clocked to 1.2GHz so its not stock (512Mb RAM is a bit limited as only 200Mb is usable).
I did have a Dell Strek 5" and an ipad, sold both since I got the Tab. To me the size makes it very versatile, I can fit it into most of my jackets and cary it all day without any discomfort.
Also the only other 7" tablet is the Dell Streak 7 which has shorter battery life and poor screen viewing angle, both are deal breaker for me. Plus I'd prefer a device with more RAM than dual core CPU.
The HTC Flyer is not out yet, and will cost almost twice what the Tab is selling.
P.S. ASDA Direct is selling the Tab for £299.
http://direct.asda.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Tab/000504480,default,pd.html
well thanks for the answers! you guys still seem excited about it. and OMG I saw the overcome 1.4 video, FREAKIN RESPONSIVE I was like "omg i need one now"
sadly the deal I found is not up anymore so I cant seem to find one cheap enough...unless I wanna pay for the next 6 months (the link someone posted here is out of stock)
SGT has had bad press and is severely underrated. I blame Samsung for positioning it at too high a price initially, and the tech press for comparing it directly with an iPad - which it is not. It's still the best small format tablet available and in the UK at least is a bargain at £299 or so. You'd pay a lot more for a lesser smartphone. Good thing is that Samsung seem to have finally woken up to this fact, and their next tablet releases look a lot more competitive price-wise. I'd still buy one now if I lost it though, purely due to how useful it is.
At OP check out my thread, where you can find it damn cheap

Hey! Like I said it's out of stock, but thanks anyway
I have had my Tab for a while now and I love it. If I were you I would look for one on craigslist and one made for Tmobile. I say Tmobile because wth them you can use the tab with out getting a contract. I have heard that the sprint and verizon tabs force u to activate there's. And the size to me is great, a 10 inch screen just seems to big, if I wanted one that size I would just get a netbook. I also have the keyboard for it and the media dock which works great. I bought the media dock and keyboard from verizon and they gave me a discount for buying two accesories at once, so I saved some money.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
And once again I said I live in France. No craiglist and no Tmobile!
But I am looking into phone networks here.
Found it cheap on priceminister ! Yay!
Also one last question, of the ways to make it faster and more responsive, installing the custom rom Overcome is the only solution right? I got confused when reading the development threads...what else can one do?
OCLF installs the market. 2240 points in quadrant. This course if you know what you're doing and take that risk.
Sorry for my english, google translate
OCLF is a waste of time if you are on an EXT4 ROM.
Personally, i'm not convinced it does much on RFS ROMs either, other than improve the incredibly flawed Quadrant benchmark scores.
Regards,
Dave
I still use mine all the time despite buying the xoom. Works best in the car and as alarm clock.

Having issues with Prime wifi. Best bet to get TF101?

So I received my Transformer Prime today and am having wifi issues (very poor connection strength). Also, I have a group of very bright pixels on the screen.
I know there is a new Transformer tablet in the works that has significantly better specs...so I'd be best to wait. In the meantime, I found a mint TF101 with docking keyboard for $350. Everything checks out and it seems like a great package for the price. This coupled with ICS arriving in two weeks for the TF101 makes it a reasonable decision to return the defective Prime and get this original TF101 w/keyboard.
Is this a good move? I've never owned the original Transformer and hope that it is plenty fast to play flash content. Anyone care to offer a POV on this decision?
I plan on getting the newer Transformer in Q2 when it's rumored to release.
i think you should go for it !
I returned my Prime due to the "Unknown Serial Number", and bought the TF101. Although WiFi wasn't bad on my Prime, it is better on my TF101. My TF101 also performs flawlessly, and doesn't have any of the common issues some of the Primes suffer from. I'm happy I "downgraded".
I am in the same situation. I was contemplating the TF101 vs TF201. It was not an issue of money, though availability became an issue as TF201 stock got sold out. I just wanted a flawless Internet experience so having poor wifi was not good. It seems like Asus is in flux right now so better to get a stable machine. I will see what happens at the end of the year, maybe upgrade to TF700. I originally got a Windows tab which actually was not that bad of a touch experience. I had the Acer W500 which is the same form factor as the prime basically with the 10" tab and keyboard dock. It was also heavy, slow and the battery life was poor (<5 hours). I think the TF101 will be a lot of fun.
try the squeeze trick before returning. takes a couple seconds and ive heard it helps a lot of plagued tf201s. cant find the vid but just squeeze just above the entire top of the screen just enough to cause a little light bleed

But that isn't going to help the OP's pixel issue and pixel deformities are annoying as ****.
Just return it and either get the TF101 or wait for the TF700T. Really the TF101 should be much easier to find and much cheaper. You'll have less of a hassle finding it and it's tried and true. It was much too early for them to release the prime so it's not like you're losing something.
Interesting to see that I am not alone on this.
This week I returned my 3rd prime and was very close to say "Screw Asus" and look for a Windows tablet but then I thought why not give the original Transformer a shot. I got it yesterday and have to admit I am really impressed.
Everything works as it should, it has two USB ports instead of one, stereo speakers instead of one, a better hardware keyboard (at least in my opinion), the USB transfer rate seems to be much better, the screen seems to be more responsive and it is much cheaper.
And the funniest thing of em all: I don´t know why but it is even faster than Prime. Of course not in 3D games or stuff like that or 1080p videos etc.
But while doing normal usage, e-mailing, writing, watching videos, browsing etc.
And I havn´t even tried a custom ROM, yet.
Just to make this clear: I am comparing ICS Prime (three actually) to HC original Transformer. Which makes no sense to me.
So, the only few things that are better about the Prime are (in my opinion):
- It looks better
- It "look" better manufactured
- Slightly better battery life
- Slightly better display
- Smaller and lighter
And since I am planning to keep my Transformer only for a few months until the Padfone or the TF700 is out I think this was a really good decision.
prime is a prototype.. not ready for the public. it tells others that quad core is now possible/.
Came lookin' for the same question/answer. Have the T201 and has issues like 80% of everyone else. Bluetooth/wifi is a joke on the 201...I love using it for remote access to my Win7 box, but seems that when I'm streaming Spotify, if cuts out and loses connection. And, this is upstairs from my router 15 feet a way.
I guess it's time to research the h*** out of the T101 like I did the 201. 399 at bestbuy this week...will search for cheaper this week . . .
Me Too...Prime's WiFi WeaK Compared to Other Tablets
Thank you OP and other posters.
I too am about to return my Prime, and was wondering about the TF101 as a replacement.
I don't do much gaming but decided to buy the Prime since it was supposed to be state-of-the-art. Well, the WiFi just isn't as good as other tablets I've tested, both the Samsung Galaxy 10.1 and HTC Flyer get better WiFi at distance. I've moved my router and changed router settings so I get satisfactory WiFi now at home, but I'm worried about weak WiFi when I travel.
Son (who has the Galaxy 10.1) says I should return the Prime. So, now what to get? The Galaxy 10.1 looks like a very strong performer (especially so in WiFi), but was looking to see if the Original Transformer TF101 would be a good fit for me.
Just wondering what you all think? What will I "lose" if I "downgrade" to the Tf101?

In short: If you can handle the size/weight and looks of the TF101, you should get it. Just my two cents.

You are right, my bad they do have the same size screen (I was thinking of the TF700) but the TF Prime has the 'Super IPS' screen and has more brightness (nits), but the ICS update has been bricking people's Primes, it also has crappy wifi/bluetooth as reported..
I say the TF101 is a safer bet, the TF201 is more a prototype as mentioned..not really ready for commercial consumption, more like the icebreaker paving the way for the real cargo ship (TF700)

That is true, too. The question is if it worth it.
I mean if you turn Super IPS mode + highest brightness settings you might easily get a sunburn from it...I don´t need that setting.
Your only really option is to get the TF101. Everything else is not preferable based on price : features or price : performance ratio.
With the Galaxy Tab 10.1 you're paying too much for what you're getting, that is good hardware and a good design but no or little updates. The hardware is roughly comparable to the TF101 so really all that you're getting out of it is good design, no expansion slot, no/little updates and pay more. Do not want.
The TF101 hits the sweet spot in terms of what you get for how much you pay and you're guaranteed to get ICS and most likely more updates after that. We've been getting updates for HC like what, once or twice every two months? Don't even think you'll see anything close to that with Sammy. Maybe one update a year or two.
The TF201 is good looking and good hardware and it shares the same Asus speed in terms of upgrades but the connectivity and build quality + launch issues leave a lot to be desired. It's confidence shaking, would I want to keep a tablet where the Wi-Fi and GPS are already **** and there's a possibility it might get worse? For $500 and with a successor already on the horizon? Do not want. Really it was a rushed, piece of garbage that's DOA. This is what happened when they decided to rush something rather than do their time with more R&D and releasing it in a more suitable time frame. They should have released the Prime when the TF700T is scheduled to be released (whatever date that is) which in my eyes puts the TF700T as what the Prime should have been, AKA the fix.

Amen to that.
Plus, I hope the same applies to the Padfone.
The TF101 has much better WiFi than the Prime.

Honestly, the TF101 will likely be better than that successor model, too. The latter has far too high screen resolution, which will lead to problems in some apps, give no advantage at all in most apps (just extra blur from scaling), and cause eye strain in some apps. As an added bonus, it'll reduce battery life and make everything slower.
All so Asus can put a bigger-is-better number on a spec sheet.
They got it right with the TF101, by and large. They're struggling to invent a reason for people to upgrade, and not doing a great job of it.
Being an early adopter of the TF101(my first one was a B40) I had to deal with the pain of owning a new model. Asus has been right on time with their updates and they pay attention to what people post on the internet. It is my opinion that in a few months the Prime will be ready for prime time. But until then I will do my best to wear out my B50 Transformer. It is a great little device totally stock.

TF300T or Infinity? Help!

Hey,
for a while I have been waiting to purchase the asus tf700, it is obviously the best tablet out there, especially once it gets jellybean and project butter works its magic. However, in the UK, it will release on August 31st, 64gb only, dock bundled for £599. Whilst the tf300 is £399 32gb and I can buy it now (in time for holiday). I only ever was going to go for the tf700, but now the tf300 looks reasonable, plus I can go ahead and buy a 64gb micro sd (convert to NTFS) and bump the memory.
In short, what would you do? Moreover, is the tf300's screen sufficient?
Regards
PS-could I overclock the tegra 3 via a rom-of the tf300?

i was in the same boat, the best deal is the transformer pad tf300, it feels amazing and light, very thin, you wont regret it. the infinity is pointless, sure it has a very high res screen, but you are taxing the tegra 3 quad core processor even more to display at higher resolutions, gaming, etc. trust me for a tablet 1280x800 is very good at the moment. i bought my tf300 and dont regret it, i dont like the back of the infinity, it looks ugly, i wish it was all metal but no point having a bit of plastic at the top then metal, its horrible,
go buy the tf300 and enjoy it, you wont regret it
thanks

Thanks I alot, I agree. I can't bring myself to purchase a tablet that costs the same as a very decent mid range laptop; hell, my mate put together an i7, hd6950 rig for that much!
the other thing about the tf300 is that, being plastic and all, for some reason I wouldn't be so nervous about rooting etc.
cheers

Brightness is just fine. You don't notice the loss of super ips+ unless you hold it directly in sunlight -- something you'd probably never do anyway. Battery life is amazing, I can easily use this thing moderately and not charge it for two days.

I have the tf300 and my boss just got the tf700...while yes the screen is nice on the infinity, it's basically the same as the tf300 in every other way. Save your money and get the tf300, it's already got a leg up in terms of roms and will blow you away with its awesomeness.

Okey dokey, I'll get it-I know it's the bottom on the priority list, but which colour do you prefer? Would you get white?
TF300T no question! I love mine. I wouldnt trade it for any other tablet! Battery life is very long, and even longer with the dock. For the price of the 700 you could buy the 300 with the dock. Dont even think about it,get the 300, you wont be disappointed.
paying 600 for an android tablet is a mistake, as good as android is, its not worth 600 as i could get a decent ultrabook with good spec and much better hd, plus i could upgrade netbooks, i upgraded my netbooks in the past,
dont make a mistake, buy the tf300

i got the dark blue one, it reminds me of the blue galaxy s3, its a nice back design, quite smart, i also like the white but they didnt have the white,

I'd go for blue -- the particular shade used on this tablet is very appealing. Personally, I'm not a fan of red, and the white will eventually turn brown due to sloughed off skin cells accumulating on the rough case.
thanks

Thank you very much indeed. On another note, how hard is rooting the tablet? Do I just unlock it, then install some recovery thing and then put a rom on or what? I'm a rookie, but not computer illiterate - so i'll get it in no time

very easy took me like half an hour, i was a newb to this devicce as well, you unlock it first using asus unlock apk form their website, then you need to do a few other things, clockworkmod first, backup then new rom , guide is on the forum

I haven't rooted mine quite yet, but mainly because i haven't found the need to. First time i can ever really say i dont think rooting this android device is absolutely nessecary. Don't get me wrong, next time i have a couple days off i'll probably get the itch and take the plunge but i gotta say the stock rom on this thing is great. I bought my 300 last week then realized the 700 was coming out very soon or was already out or whatever. Usually in the past if i buy a gadget then realize an upgraded version is coming out in the same price range i return it and upgrade. After having the tf300 for a couple days though i can honestly say i feel no need to trade "up". This thing is amazing and i dont really care if the 700 is higher res. Enjoy it!
hmm, i see in the US the TF700 is only $100 more...no brainer for me if i'd be over there....
in Europe they ****ed us over, at launch TF700 only available as 64GB with dock bundle...are they mad????
Get the TF300 for sure. £200 cheaper than the Infinity, and you still get a bright HD screen, quad core, keyboard dock and 32GB storage on board. Sure, the resolution on the Infinity is very nice, but can you really justify paying an extra £200 for that and a slightly better build quality?

good point
what's still holding me back is the app "ecosystem", poor quality app checks compared to apple.
plus i saw this one, is it that bad in reality? (check the web browsing test from 5:00 onwards):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjhufve38r0
i mean i use the tablet a lot for just websurfing, reading newspapers n stuff.....
The web surfing can be improved by using other browsers. Stock browser is somewhat horrible which is what was being used in that video. However, the iPad does seem more fluid as much as I may not like to admit. You could change the user agent to iPad as the guy said in the video but I'm not really sure if that will do the same job. The upgrade to android jellybean should make browsing and scrolling better I think. The transformer isn't bad for browsing by any means.

Is the Wifi issue that bad on the Prime?

Is Tab 2 or 3 still viable options?

Hi. I need opinions from people who actually have purchased and using this tablet.
I am on the fence on P3100 on Amazon, I am thinking about getting this as an everyday phone since I rarely make phone calls these days. I got my Flyer when it was like $499 or $399 (forgot) at internet retailer thinking the pen will have great use but it wasn’t anyway near S pen functionality standard but still it was cool gadget to show off to friends at that time. But it virtually had no use to me ever since HTC decided to kill it with Gingerbread upgrade and I lost the pen it came with shortly after the downgrade. I did downgraded and overclocked it and using it on a plane and on a short vacation but the whole experience put a nails on the coffin with me having had very sour experience with Sensation.
I usually use all the electronic stuff until it dies. For example I am still using Dell XPS M1530 that I got 2007 as entertainment devices at my home. It went through that gpu recall and with cpu and ssd upgrade and it’s still running great serving media contents from my server. I was expecting my first ever tablet to last long time but I got sick of the lags or should I put it as, consistently freezing for second(s). The level of disappointment isn’t nearly as bad as the geniuses(idiots) from Apple stores but it’s on par with the previous LG products that lacked everything I have given flyer to my kids to use it as their fun devices now. I don't want this kind of experience happen again. I don't want to buy this and about 3-4 month later it becomes almost useless. Just like that flyer I purchased.
So.. With the not so much upgrade to Tab 3 Is the Galaxy tab2 or 3 still viable options since everything these days comes with quad or even octa core with 2GB ram?
Here is a thread on the subject, it is a little different though, seeing as how you want to use yours as a primary phone as well, but it may help.

Thanks.
The thread is giving me more mix feeling on this issue.
I realize I can still (barely) use my Flyer to do basic stuff like reading web pages and watch youtube videos but the tablet isn't anywhere near usable after couple of months. I eventually have to wipe everything or restore to stock roms in order to get that usable feeling back again. And I do realize I can double down and get Note 8 but just like I said on that forum, feel it's still too expensive for what it is in US.
Bigger note 2, that isn't most powerful or innovative tablet at $600?
Or.
Possibly another 6 month device for around $300?
I don't know...

I am not talking about tablets alone. I am talking about phone as well. But I think you get the grasp of what I am trying to say here.
Couple of months later KLP comes. And oops sorry Tab 2 or 3 owners, it isn't supported device or retrofit it in and live with lag or live without major functions.
I went through this and I don't want to go through this too soon again.
If I were you... I would actually pick the GTAB3
I'm one of those people who really need screen space in landscape mode with the keyboard open.
Asus tf300 $315au 16gb WiFi
Or the upcoming Sony Xperia tablet z round $530au
Both can play 1080 mkvs and mp4
And Xperia tablet z can play 4k resolution videos like my Xperia z.
Food for thought.
I have the tab 2 10.1 can play 1080 mp4s but its more of an in car media system.
I does lag a little, not like what your talking about
Mine is stock no root

[Q] Is the N10 still a good buy?

Hello all,
I currently have the funds for the Nexus 10. I've had my eyes on this for a while, but something has came up every time I've gotten close(I'm just a high school student who does marching band, so no time for a job.). I'll be getting the 16GB version, as I'll be mostly just using it for web browsing, and streaming the occasional video from YouTube or Play Movies. I keep all of my music on my GNexus. The idea of sitting on the couch with the N10 and pushing stuff to my Chromecast(arriving via UPS any minute) is really, really appealing. So anyway, is it still a good buy this late in the cycle? I know a new version is coming, but that could be months off, and I'd really like to jump on it now while I have the funds.
Thank you so much!

Well if you only have enough for 16 GB (that's no where near enough space for me and I'm also a highschool student) I'd wait and save up more money and maybe you'll have enough for the newer one with more memory once its out. Or you can get another tablet for a similar price with SD card storage. Anyways I have the 32 GB version and its great with just enough space. I usually have 5-6 GB free but I don't like filling them memory because it causes slow downs and stuff. But if you really want the nexus 10 its still a top device to buy. You could also use otg to connect SD card (search it if you don't know what it is) but I don't really like having it hanging off the side of my tablet

It will be good long past this November.
Pre 4.3 I'd say no it isn't worth the money. With the fixes in 4.3 its a great tablet. The internals are newer then the new Nexus 7 and its a strong performer. I love mine.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
I also feel that the existing N10 is still a good value. As the Nexus 7 2 release was identical to it's release time for the prior model, you'll see November 12th as the possible time for the N10 replacement in my estimation (could change).
As the Exynos dual core processor in the N10 is outperforming a number of tabs with Tegra 3 chipsets, it's a decent performing tab.
That stated, there are several options at the moment:
1. Sony Xperia (sp?) Tab Z. Take it swimming with it's waterproof design? Nah, the touch capabilities don't work underwater.
2. Toshiba Excite, uses new Tegra 4 chipset.
But the features of the excellent speaker configuration, PPI and screen resolution with decent performance CPU/GPU for todays games, yeah the N10 is still a very good match.

If you're just going to use it as a remote for your Chromecast, almost any tablet will do. I'd seriously consider the new Nexus 7 that just came out, which is going to sell millions and whose first revision was already one of the best-selling Android tablets, selling a lot more than the Nexus 10.
If you want a 10" screen, you may want to look at the new Toshiba Excite tablets that just came out last week, if you're willing and able to pay more for performance, ie the Excite Pro and Write have quad-core A15 chips, as opposed to the dual-core A15 in the current Nexus 10, and microSD card slots but cost $100-200 more. If you're willing to wait, the new Asus Transformer and Nexus 10 will be coming out in a couple months.
I changed my Xperia Tablet S to Nexus 10 yesterday. I'm so happy now Nexus 10 is excellent tablet. Grab it!
I bought this tablet a few days ago, and so far its been great. Update it to 4.3 ASAP and you won't regret buying it.
