Please, finish your work first, then think of other distros, OK?

This is just a poll, i will still go on with my slackware, i just want to hear more suggestions

well none of already existing distros are functional or even WORKING

What do you mean?
Do you mean no camera, no sound, no gps?

Almost every linux distro on MAGLDR is not working properly. Either touchscreen fails or other components. VNC version is hard to use and cannot into USB-Host

No magldr support, no easy way to change the kernel, no usb host, no wifi, no touchscreen... That's the basic stuff.

I've got a fedora 12 (or 13, can't remember which) that I was working with for a while in conjunction with the back track I was working with.
I was successful in getting it started up, but gnome for it is tricky to get going through vnc. Command line works fine though, as well as it having a lot of the needed packages for things to work.
At one point in time I had it booting through wm6 using the v0.3 kernel from dcordes Ubuntu version, but I ran out of time before getting touch working properly and such.
I can get a copy of it up sometime today or to morrow if you guys are interested
A few notes...
The fedora 12 and 13 were easier to setup and configure, but 14 and on has a lot of package dependancies that HAVE to be filled by hand. There's almost 300+ you need to track down manually, not to mention THIER dependencies too.
At the time I was working on it, f15 was in alpha and 16 and 17 were near nonexistent, so I was working with 12 and 13.
The good news is that 12 and 13 will basically work for ANY device (it targets arm V5, so our arm V7s can use it with out changes. When working with 15 or higher, they may not work properly (or at all) as many of the packages are not compiled as "no_arch" so there's a lot of packages that need manual installation as well.
Hit me up if you have any questions!! I'll have fedora up in its own post sometime over the next day or two

Both of you don't remember that, i am not using MAGLDR, and the option in the MAGLDR is "BOOT ANDROID" NOT "BOOT LINUX".
Moreover, i am producing linux on hd2 with HaRET, not MAGLDR.
"Everything"(exclude, gps, etc) are working on HaRET's version.

Dependencies... I hate this things, i used whole month to deal with dependencies on my slackware, slackpkg don't care about it!

dependancies are NOT fun lol
That a what I like about the vnc way of loading it, easy to diagnose the problems and find the packages

You might want to notice that this option is called that because it has been used to boot only Android ROMs, since no linux distros were available for magldr.

Also, the majority of HD2 users here use magldr because they use Windows Phone 7 or Android on NAND as a daily driver. If I were you, I would consider making a magldr-compatible version as well.

Haret is great, but WinMo days are over
MAGLDR is great thing, as allows for many different OS'es on one system without much trouble. Not having working linux distros on MAGLDR is a shame.

Thats what i get for not re reading ny post lol
I ment mmcblk1p3, not mmcblk0p3
If you can provide me with a kernel that has a ramfs that loads the system from mmckblk1p3 I can help a bit with the magldr boot, just don't have time to go through the ramfs changes (and I forgot how to do it again lol)
The reason I use that partition is it is SO much easier to modify across systems

Don't remember that, i am just a system(os) developer, i am not a bootloader developer, if you want linux boot on MAGLDR, ask DFT team!

Any hope for Slackware ETA?

New magldr news http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24609524&postcount=1032. It seems that hopkinskong's decision not to concentrate on magldr booting for Slackware may pay off.
Also what price a 1024 HD2 now

But there is no need to do anything bootloader-related... Check out MAGLDR topic at development section - Ubuntu 10.04 boots on MAGLDR/CLK with just only changing the kernel to a newer one. Wifi and touchscreen work (after copying wifi firmware and changing xorg.conf). The only thing that may be bootloader-dependent is probably USB host, but that's going to be fixed in new MAGLDR as I heard. And I think people would be still happy to have a nice MAGLDR version even without USB host. Please think about that, I can't understand how not a one dev cares about MAGLDR when it looks like it's easy to fix that. I'd love to have some Slack (or even better, Arch) on HD2

I think we should wait for new MAGLDR. It could revolutionize the way we use systems now.

I can't see how these MAGLDR changes would affect desktop Linux (ubuntu/slackware/arch etc.) on HD2. It's booted from SD anyway, it won't be installed to NAND. Simply because uncompressed Linux distribution needs more than 1GB of space, and we have either 0,5 or 1 GB. So why wait?

OK, new MAGLDR will release?
Yes, the new kernel's USBHOST is not working, and its hard to fix it, the USBHOST crashed with the battery driver(linux_on_wince_htc kernel). To use linux in MAGLDR, we need to fix that first.
For Slackware ETA:
I need to find another SD card, i was building my rootfs few days ago, but my SD card "crashed" for some reason, my computer even don't recognize my card anymore, i have a half-built rootfs backup-ed on my computer, when i have another 8G SD card available, i can start work again. (I remembered that my card has a 5-year warranty, but i need to find it out first)

THANKS GUYS!!
What you will need is the installation copy of the build that you will be using, the latest zImage and your sdcard.
The latest Android build can be found here: Its under the standard builds section.
http://gamesquare.co.uk/
And the latest Zimage can be found here:
http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/
I personally recommend the dan1j3l's Froyo build.
Down load both the zimage and the build.
Format your sdcard, select default settings and unselect the quick format option.
After the formatting is done (about 20 mins)
extract the contents of the Froyo build to your sdcard.
Located in the folder "android" you will find a file names zimage, replace it with the one you downloaded.
WITH YOUR USB PLUGGED INTO A POWER SOURCE, reboot your phone.
As soon as you can, using the built in file manager if u have one, navigate to the android folder, select the program CLRCAD, (it will not do anything that you can see)
Then select the Zharet program.
Lay the phone down!
Sit back and wait, you will see text fly across the screen, the flash might flash, screen might fade and then come back.
Once linux is done loading and mapping out the hardware, android should be up and running.
Sign in to google and your contacts will sync if you have any on there.
Android is not perfect yet BUT it has come an amazing way since the beginning of the month.
I am using the current settings in WM, if you can do the same and you should have no problems.
SA TMOBILE HD2
HSPL2, I know HSPL3 is/has been out and is recommended, but is there any advantage in using it, i don't want to change if i don't need to
Radio 2.10.50.26
O.S. 5.2.21908 (21908.5.0.93)
Manila 2.5.20161332.0
Energy.Leo.21908.Sense2.5.Cookie.Jul.16 (absolutely love the energy roms, always updated and he includes the program to back up all settings making the update flashes a pleasant experience)
i ALWAYS TASK 29 before all roms!
CLASS 4 or better sd card.
When ever you want to load android, you must do so by selecting the two files mentiond above after a clean boot and always clrcad.exe first.
Sometimes android will not boot correctly, remember it was not designed for this phone.
Also all settings you make, programs you download, ect will stay in android
Pictures and such will be shared between android and wm.
Trying...
I'm installing it now per your instructions. A couple of concerns you might be able to help me with. I could not find the program CLRCAD in any folder, ok I couldn't find an android folder either. I went to my SD card where I had extracted the froyo & copied over the Zimage, I didn't see a Zharet program but I did see a haret file that looked like a program so I clicked on it and it started to download Linux! I hope I did it correctly even though it seemed slightly different. am I going to run into trouble not having run the CLRCAD?
Thanks for all your hard work.
Guess I answered part of my question. It did not install correctly. I'll look for a CLRCAD and retry.
cant believe im back in the winmo forum once again.ran HARET froyo last night on my HSPL2 Leon RoM,and wow.with wifi i was browsing, playing 3d games(flawless compare to my EVO 30fps capped),and watching youtube.really loving it.glad no one bought my HD2 but now its a keeper.

I Found CLRCAD ( I think I was just a little sleepy last night when I was trying this) I ran it and it loaded correctly. Wow it seems to run great! I am running Touch-X Extreme ROM and have some issues with the phone(it doesnt work, I have no antenna). I will try loading energy's rom (since so many people have got the phone to work well with his) and see how well it works out.
Good luck!
Do we really need to format our SD card? If we don't what would happen to the data already on there?
is the "zimage" provided for both dan's froyo and desire v4?
which files do i replace with the new zimage?
After a few days of use, this build seems to run fine. Except for a few things. 1) my phone tends to run real *hot* after using Android. And second, after about 5 min of idling the screen goes black and there seems like there's nothing I can do about except to reboot. I can't even push any of the bottom buttons, that doesn't work either. on. It will run just fine as long as I don't let it sit to long without touching the screen. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I can't wait for a even more stable build.
why cant i sign into google and other networks and why is it running overclocked? help me out yall got daaaamn lol. thanks
Is Paradoxua's Froyo build more stock than daniel's? Because daniels' uses ADW, which I'm not too fond of.
Also, is anyone else experiencing weird scrolling issues? Like you flick down a list and it's supposed to go flying down, but it only goes down like a tiny bit.
Another issue, when the screen turns off while you're connected to PC, the phone seems to disconnect too. I assume this is a WinMo issue because in WinMo when you connect your phone to your PC the screen is always on.
Thread moved to General.
i got my hd2 to load android just fine.. but the screen is very dim.. any ideas??
maybe you can toggle the backlight settings in winmo.. idk. it works for the tp2.
I always get the green screen or death or it enters android and quickly says powering off. And shuts off.

you need to make sure automatic light is off in win mo before you boot up android and i always leave it at around 60% and it works fine.
I have also been having some scrolling issues. It goes down a tad bit and if you hold the screen for a fraction of a second too long after first setting your finger on the screen, then it acts as if you did a holding touch.
Also the 3g is very very slow, kinda makes the market place useless since it takes for ever to download something. Wifi downloading is working.
New zimage file
Try replacing your current zimage file with this one.
http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/Cotulla_zImage_CABDET_NOSPEEDDY.rar
Just replace/override it on your sd card.
Also delete your cache folder and your data file.
You will loose your information inside of android, like doing a reset of the OS.
Check this http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/ often, fair warning many people are having problems with the newer image marked(7-25)
Some roms or radios wont work for sure!
I am now running MIRI rom wm6.5 V17.6 with radio 2.12.50.02.2 and I must say very impressive how far you devs have come in a few weeks. Phone is working with audio and WIFI. I had stock rom TMO 2.13 installed with radio 2.10 and although Android loaded and ran fine I did not have audio during calls, they sounded robotic at times or no audio at all. I am not sure if it was the radio upgrade or switching the ROM to MIRI that did the trick. I have been playing with phone for approximately six hours nonstop and it has been solid...

[Q] Suggestion for installation thread

I am very interested in the Android development for HTC HD2 and I would very much like to try one of these builds. However, I'm totally confused as to what to do, how to install, what to install, which version to choose, etc. In other words.... I'm not a developer!
I would therefore suggest an "Available Android Release Thread" here on the forum, where each developer who is working on this can have a post that they can update when they update their release, and where they could list the installation steps and the prerequisites for going through with it.
If this already exists, please excuse me, I just didn't find it.
If it doesn't, I would appreciate it greatly if you could take the time to create it.
Thanks, and let me add that I and probably the entire HD2 user community, greatly appreciate and value the effort you guys are putting into this!
1)Install HSPL on your win mo.
2)Load Radio 2.12.50 (must end with 50) via bootloader.
3)Download hyperdroid v 1.5
4)In your root of your sdcard, create a folder "HyperDroidV1.5"
5)Copy the files you have downloaded to the folder you just created.
6)Open up the folder, tap on CLRCAD to enable sound.
7)Tap up on Haret.exe to boot linux.
8)Wait for about 5 mins for initial.
9)Viola, you got android on your phone.
P/S : If you dont know the terms yet, do some homework by googling it. It is readily available in the net.
there are stickies on how to install, what version is personal prference
and the majority of devs who release their builds do say in inthe first thread of what to do to get it running

Just an FYI...
My wife has the same phone and she hates it, for obvious reasons. I will soon be using her phone to create an instructional video that will take you through the whole processes.
I will be including installing HSPL, Radio, Winmo ROM,and finally Android.
So, when time permitting and I can swipe her phone for long enough...

Thanks, but I flashed my winmo ROM and updated the radio, now I'm using sergio's desire build perfectly
One thing that should be noted, my feeling is that WM stock ROM messes with android and causes a whole mess of problems, so you should flash an approved ROM before booting your android. This is JUST IN MY EXPERIENCE.
Had SOD with every build before, now I'm nearing the end of my second day with no SOD issues at all.

[Q] Switching to android

I am a linux fan and I am using Linux for a long time.I bought the HTC HD2. I saw some youtube videos about Android Froyo on HD2.I want to try it but they were showing that you have to put the file on the micro sd card and you have run it from there. My question is if I do it can I run windows mobile after a new boot ?or it will boot android for all time?I just don't want to let windows go because may be i will switch back. Can any one please help me?
Yes, you can easily get into winmo, every time you shutdown android you have to load winmo first and then use haret to load android, so no worries .

Thanks for quick reply.Do you know which devices will not work on HTC HD2 if I run Android?Cause little confused here .Some people says wifi does not work ,some says camera does not work.Do you know actually what does not work?
That was a loooong time ago^^
Now, EVERYTHING WORKS, unless:
- You have an inappropriate Kernel (some still have issues, but the latest one works flawlessly)
- You have an inappropriate ROM (there's been reports on CM6 not being ok with all Kernels, hence the 1°)
- You have an "Exotic" rom (Desire HD, Desire Z...) : these aren't fully supported ATM
However, there are known issues with:
- Tethering, especially Wifi, it's not yet always 100% ok
- Kernels, they are all being tweaked, but IMHO, go for it, I don't boot WinMo anymore
- And other small annoyances, but that depends on your device, rom, kernel, etc etc etc
FOR YOUR CONCERN:
- Booting from an SD card is far from a flaw (to me) : Copy aside your data.img, and copy a build over it. You'll never loose your personal data by flashing again
- Hence this : Don't ask for "the best Android rom", all you'll have will be personal opinions, and may not suit you. Try them, it's damn easy, you won't loose your personal data, it's a matter of days
- Ask about the really important stuff : Kernels and Radio, and things like that, but AFTER getting through the other post and thread. Nothing more annoying than a "noob" (and we've ALL been through there, but...) that didn't (at least) try looking for himself.
->Try asking questions, starting with "I've been looking for this, found this, understood this, but need help about that" and you'll see how people will be grateful ^^

Kernals, Nand, full functioning Android?

I gave my Dad my old blackstone when my Desore turned up.
He has winged that he can't get the marketplace and about all those general WinMo issues that people have (it dead etc)
I can't find a clear message on the status of NANDROID for blackstone.
TIAD8s site has NAND versions that are missing bluetooth or other funcitons
It appears there are basic functions that are lost according which kernal is being run.
I'm willing to do one completely convoluted install just to get Froyo style on my dads phone but only once. I never have trouble with new flashing procedures (slow and steady wins the race) but I don't want to hand him back the phone broken especially as he uses hands free in the car
So - can anyone say categorically that a NAND version work fully?
Categorically: Not yet. Wondering if ever...
Forget it...
Think Tiad8 only has test team working on a NAND build anyway?
Not seen it in action yet
Kernals?! ....

Tiad8's just kidding us, it will send to test team files from NVIDIA Tegra device. Only RUU_signed is working, but I think it's my modded LK Bootloader from Rhodium (with modified mtype). Something's wrong with this nand.
I have runned this but touchscreen not working properly and I don't have GSM.

I thought you were part of his developer team because he now give credits to you for your ruu and recovery.img (at last he ist starting to do this: giving credits) in the NAND download post.
With your post here I had to smile a little: now your name is connected to the "null nands" for many consumers in tiad8's forum. Even I thought you're part of it now and that's why I tried the build yesterday again: Boot partition to small and Kernel not working.
I think now it's getting to the critical point in the NAND experiments: correct or good partition sizes for NAND (some members there startet to change partition values in the image files with a hex editor) and more important: building a working kernel with modules for Blackstone NAND.
Until now all experiments reached a few preparing goals: getting a working .nbh for starting into fastboot, getting a recovery.img for a working CWM etc.
But now (if I am completely wrong please correct me, I really want to know) you have to change partition and ram parameters in clk and hope you will spare the protected parts.
And after that: Kernel and Modules for Blackstone on Nand. I am starting to believe here would be the real point for developers.
I started to build Kernel and Modules, a Boot Environment (initrdgz) from git and packed them with changed parameters in a Tinboot-Package. I can flash with the .nbh, I can boot, I got a lot of errors in init first, but I succeeded in running and loading the kernel, I get access to the changed mtd partitions etc. Debugging on Blackstone with Echo "" ist quite funny.
I got stuck when I tried to cp files from SD card to the /system partition (which is mounted r/w) - I can cp files from / to /system anyway. Big ?? for me. But I like to play with it a little more, because I learned a lot.

I thought you were part of his developer team because he now give credits to you for your ruu and recovery.img (at last he ist starting to do this: giving credits) in the NAND download post..

Me Too!! Does this mean you are working on different things?

Dual Boot,Splitting Partitions

Can you dual boot or any other way to have 2 different roms installed at the same time,so i can switch back and forth?Like windows either at boot or logging in and out of 2 different desktops.
Maybe find a way to split the partitions.Any suggestions would be great.
Duel= 2 roms fighting. Make it dual. Thought it was funny, no malice intended.
lol - duel - dual...
It would be interesting if that was possible. There would have to be another program in there to act as the buffer between both OS's though - that would take control of the start-up, hold on a page that has both options and then would boot the option you want.
Not sure if that's possible since some files are right on the root and in order to have an OS work it can't have files in the same directory - they would just overwrite each other.
But, I too, have wondered if it would ever happen. Be a great way to test new ROM's if you didn't always have to overwrite the existing ROM but rather, you could place a new ROM in a special directory and then run it from that - or partition the internal memory with the new partition available to boot from and store.

Thats exactly what i was thinking, partition the system os,i rebuild computers and a little system modding in windows, but this is a linux based os,so it would be a little odd for me.I'm gonna look into this a little more.
You may try to contact the guys who developed boot manager. www.init2winitapps.com they have a listing of supported devices and a request form. Works on the thunderbolt 5 slots for 5 roms, I'm unsure how difficult it would be to add support for the iconia.

Thanks,i submitted the idea, lets see if they will run with it,hopefully they will find interest.
Hello Diabblo,
Any update on that?
I think the idea of dual boot (or 5al boot) is just fantastic!
I have beside my iconia a501 a poor old zt180s and it can triple boot on android, ubuntu and WinCE!
Best,
Inji.

Im guessing that device has a open non encrypted boot loader. The Iconia was encrypted at birth with the 3.2 push they tightened security even more from whqt I have read.So this is likely never happening unless acer changes ttjere boot loader policy.not likely to happen.
hope this helps you understand more of this issue.
I'm dual-booting my A500 right now with ICS and Ubuntu. The method for dual-booting is a replacement recovery.img which contains a Linux kernel and acts as a bootloader for Linux. Ubuntu itself runs from a rootfs.img on the internal storage (there's also recovery.img's available to run from external SD too). If I want to run Android, I just boot my tab normally. When I wanna run Ubuntu, I hold vol+ as I'm turning it on to force the modded recovery to load. It's a pretty cool setup more info in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158260
Dear Erica Renee and Bloodflame,
Thanks a lot for your answers. Ok, I got it with the encrypted bootloader.
Will try the method described by Bloodflame.
Actually, since I got these tablets my main use of them is flashing new ROMs... I don't really have the use of new ROMs but I think it's so exciting!
Cheers,
Inji.
I don't believe the encryption is the problem.
The current boot loader is available unencrypted in update packages if anyone want to have a look at it.
Replacing the boot loader on the device is done as part of a down grade procedure described elsewhere on this forum.
So unless I'm missing something, the problem is more likely time and interest. Someone need to care enough about it and have the time to make some other boot loader work. Or patch Acer's. Either way it is likely to require quite a bit of time and patience.
So let me see if I have this correct. Acer's hardware bios code is 'locked down' enough to keep the average code manipulator out? A custom boot loader needs to be dev'd that can communicate correctly to be able to handle Android recovery and a linux/android boot screen etc. ? Could someone elaborate more blatantly if I am incorrect...
