[Q] Suggestion for installation thread - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

I am very interested in the Android development for HTC HD2 and I would very much like to try one of these builds. However, I'm totally confused as to what to do, how to install, what to install, which version to choose, etc. In other words.... I'm not a developer!
I would therefore suggest an "Available Android Release Thread" here on the forum, where each developer who is working on this can have a post that they can update when they update their release, and where they could list the installation steps and the prerequisites for going through with it.
If this already exists, please excuse me, I just didn't find it.
If it doesn't, I would appreciate it greatly if you could take the time to create it.
Thanks, and let me add that I and probably the entire HD2 user community, greatly appreciate and value the effort you guys are putting into this!

1)Install HSPL on your win mo.
2)Load Radio 2.12.50 (must end with 50) via bootloader.
3)Download hyperdroid v 1.5
4)In your root of your sdcard, create a folder "HyperDroidV1.5"
5)Copy the files you have downloaded to the folder you just created.
6)Open up the folder, tap on CLRCAD to enable sound.
7)Tap up on Haret.exe to boot linux.
8)Wait for about 5 mins for initial.
9)Viola, you got android on your phone.
P/S : If you dont know the terms yet, do some homework by googling it. It is readily available in the net.

there are stickies on how to install, what version is personal prference
and the majority of devs who release their builds do say in inthe first thread of what to do to get it running

Your phone turns into a motorola droid or droid 2?

Just an FYI...
My wife has the same phone and she hates it, for obvious reasons. I will soon be using her phone to create an instructional video that will take you through the whole processes.
I will be including installing HSPL, Radio, Winmo ROM,and finally Android.
So, when time permitting and I can swipe her phone for long enough...

I've done several searches and run many different versions, but I'm still getting sleep death issues. Quick question and answers, has this issue been resolved for sure and where can I find the link to solve it?

Thanks, but I flashed my winmo ROM and updated the radio, now I'm using sergio's desire build perfectly
One thing that should be noted, my feeling is that WM stock ROM messes with android and causes a whole mess of problems, so you should flash an approved ROM before booting your android. This is JUST IN MY EXPERIENCE.
Had SOD with every build before, now I'm nearing the end of my second day with no SOD issues at all.

You will need HSPL installed, as well as a Class 4 or better sd card.

THANKS GUYS!!
What you will need is the installation copy of the build that you will be using, the latest zImage and your sdcard.
The latest Android build can be found here: Its under the standard builds section.
http://gamesquare.co.uk/
And the latest Zimage can be found here:
http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/
I personally recommend the dan1j3l's Froyo build.
Down load both the zimage and the build.
Format your sdcard, select default settings and unselect the quick format option.
After the formatting is done (about 20 mins)
extract the contents of the Froyo build to your sdcard.
Located in the folder "android" you will find a file names zimage, replace it with the one you downloaded.
WITH YOUR USB PLUGGED INTO A POWER SOURCE, reboot your phone.
As soon as you can, using the built in file manager if u have one, navigate to the android folder, select the program CLRCAD, (it will not do anything that you can see)
Then select the Zharet program.
Lay the phone down!
Sit back and wait, you will see text fly across the screen, the flash might flash, screen might fade and then come back.
Once linux is done loading and mapping out the hardware, android should be up and running.
Sign in to google and your contacts will sync if you have any on there.
Android is not perfect yet BUT it has come an amazing way since the beginning of the month.
I am using the current settings in WM, if you can do the same and you should have no problems.
SA TMOBILE HD2
HSPL2, I know HSPL3 is/has been out and is recommended, but is there any advantage in using it, i don't want to change if i don't need to
Radio 2.10.50.26
O.S. 5.2.21908 (21908.5.0.93)
Manila 2.5.20161332.0
Energy.Leo.21908.Sense2.5.Cookie.Jul.16 (absolutely love the energy roms, always updated and he includes the program to back up all settings making the update flashes a pleasant experience)
i ALWAYS TASK 29 before all roms!
CLASS 4 or better sd card.
When ever you want to load android, you must do so by selecting the two files mentiond above after a clean boot and always clrcad.exe first.
Sometimes android will not boot correctly, remember it was not designed for this phone.
Also all settings you make, programs you download, ect will stay in android
Pictures and such will be shared between android and wm.

I'm installing it now per your instructions. A couple of concerns you might be able to help me with. I could not find the program CLRCAD in any folder, ok I couldn't find an android folder either. I went to my SD card where I had extracted the froyo & copied over the Zimage, I didn't see a Zharet program but I did see a haret file that looked like a program so I clicked on it and it started to download Linux! I hope I did it correctly even though it seemed slightly different. am I going to run into trouble not having run the CLRCAD?
Thanks for all your hard work.
Guess I answered part of my question. It did not install correctly. I'll look for a CLRCAD and retry.
cant believe im back in the winmo forum once again.ran HARET froyo last night on my HSPL2 Leon RoM,and wow.with wifi i was browsing, playing 3d games(flawless compare to my EVO 30fps capped),and watching youtube.really loving it.glad no one bought my HD2 but now its a keeper.

I Found CLRCAD ( I think I was just a little sleepy last night when I was trying this) I ran it and it loaded correctly. Wow it seems to run great! I am running Touch-X Extreme ROM and have some issues with the phone(it doesnt work, I have no antenna). I will try loading energy's rom (since so many people have got the phone to work well with his) and see how well it works out.
Good luck!
Do we really need to format our SD card? If we don't what would happen to the data already on there?
is the "zimage" provided for both dan's froyo and desire v4?
which files do i replace with the new zimage?
After a few days of use, this build seems to run fine. Except for a few things. 1) my phone tends to run real *hot* after using Android. And second, after about 5 min of idling the screen goes black and there seems like there's nothing I can do about except to reboot. I can't even push any of the bottom buttons, that doesn't work either. on. It will run just fine as long as I don't let it sit to long without touching the screen. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? I can't wait for a even more stable build.
why cant i sign into google and other networks and why is it running overclocked? help me out yall got daaaamn lol. thanks
Is Paradoxua's Froyo build more stock than daniel's? Because daniels' uses ADW, which I'm not too fond of.
Also, is anyone else experiencing weird scrolling issues? Like you flick down a list and it's supposed to go flying down, but it only goes down like a tiny bit.
Another issue, when the screen turns off while you're connected to PC, the phone seems to disconnect too. I assume this is a WinMo issue because in WinMo when you connect your phone to your PC the screen is always on.
Thread moved to General.
i got my hd2 to load android just fine.. but the screen is very dim.. any ideas??
maybe you can toggle the backlight settings in winmo.. idk. it works for the tp2.
I always get the green screen or death or it enters android and quickly says powering off. And shuts off.

you need to make sure automatic light is off in win mo before you boot up android and i always leave it at around 60% and it works fine.
I have also been having some scrolling issues. It goes down a tad bit and if you hold the screen for a fraction of a second too long after first setting your finger on the screen, then it acts as if you did a holding touch.
Also the 3g is very very slow, kinda makes the market place useless since it takes for ever to download something. Wifi downloading is working.
New zimage file
Try replacing your current zimage file with this one.
http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/Cotulla_zImage_CABDET_NOSPEEDDY.rar
Just replace/override it on your sd card.
Also delete your cache folder and your data file.
You will loose your information inside of android, like doing a reset of the OS.
Check this http://cotulla.pp.ru/leo/Android/ often, fair warning many people are having problems with the newer image marked(7-25)
Some roms or radios wont work for sure!
I am now running MIRI rom wm6.5 V17.6 with radio 2.12.50.02.2 and I must say very impressive how far you devs have come in a few weeks. Phone is working with audio and WIFI. I had stock rom TMO 2.13 installed with radio 2.10 and although Android loaded and ran fine I did not have audio during calls, they sounded robotic at times or no audio at all. I am not sure if it was the radio upgrade or switching the ROM to MIRI that did the trick. I have been playing with phone for approximately six hours nonstop and it has been solid...

Does the app work well the newer builds?
Btw a very BIG thank you all the guys working on this, you guys are freaking AWESOME!

[Q] Android on UK o2 HD2

Hi, I'm thinking of trying out Android, preferably Froyo, on my UK o2 HD2 which I've had for almost a year now.
My current ROM (1.72.206.3) is the most recent, stock o2 upgrade from the HTC Europe site which came with radio version 2.07.51.22_2.
Have any other o2 users tried, hopefully with some success, to run Android from their SD card using just the above ROM and radio versions? If so, what build of Android would you recommend?
Alternatively, if only a flashed non-stock ROM and HSPL installation will make this work, what would be my best way forward to safeguard my warranty and ensure I dont brick my beloved HD2?
Soz to sound like a noob but I've searched this forum but can't find any o2 specific threads like this one - plus I've been looking around XDA, HTCPedia, YouTube (where I can only find people with US T-Mobile handsets, not the European/UK model) et al for a few days now and feel like I'm just going in circles!
Many thanks for any help that might be forthcoming.
I'm on O2 UK.
I couldn't get Android to boot on Radio 2.07, so I installed HSPL 2.08 and flashed Radio 2.15. I kept the stock O2 1.72 ROM from the HTC website, and it works fine.
I'd recommend Bangsters build if you don't want a Sense-based build, or either FroyoStone or mdeejay's Froyo HD or Froyo Sense builds if you do want Sense.
Blimey, I didn't expect such a prompt reply but that's brilliant.
I wish I had raised my question a couple of days ago, as I've been trawling the internet for suggestions for a few days now, so many thanks for that.
I've already installed a dual-boot app so will install your recommended software tomorrow.
PS - I hope this is of help to others out there too.
Hi, I have a HTC HD2 but mine is out of warranty anyway so here it goes,
HSPL 2.08,
Windows ROM "Miri and Dinik V19",
radio 2.12,
sense android rom Mdeejay Evo warm V1.1 with the latest r7.6 kernel,
Non-sense android rom latest Biff froyo rom based on CM6 V1.0 with the same r7.6 kernel,
I do bump into some occasional problems with android but nothing major, hope this helps.
it's all over the forum, but keep in mind you need at least a radio 2.08 to run android. oh, and for a non-sense build, i'd like to recommend hyperdroid v1.6
welcome to android! The way the HD2 is meant to be
latest radio is 2.15, update your hspl to the highest.
This might be personal preferrence but i find desire roms run better on my phone than evo roms
Im using NDeeJays 3.6 Desire HD rom, this rom is now fast and stable with the latest features, it is however lacking the camera and ereader...if you can live with out these, its the best option in my opinion.
If you need your camera have a look at shu8is SHUBcraft 1.5 CM6 final. It is due an update soon as dev has been away for a while but that rom is rock solid and i used as my only rom until i upgraded to the desire HD rom.
Okay, so at the expense of sounding like a numpty, it appears I need to do the following:
1. Sync my phone with my PC as usual.
2. Copy a version of my current 1.72 o2 ROM to my SD card (not sure where in particular though - in the root maybe?) having renamed it leoimg.nbh so that I can uninstall HSLP should I brick my phone and need to return it to o2 under warranty.
3. Install HSPL 2.08 or higher. I have HSLP3-PKG on my desktop ready for this purpose, so hope this should suffice.
4. Once the HD2 restarts then install a new radio ROM, version 2.08 or higher (I have 2.15 ready to go)
5. Reboot the phone again and create a folder called Android in the root of my SD card, and copy over my choice of Android software to same.
6. Restart the phone yet again, navigate using file explorer to the Android folder then run CLRCAD.EXE and thereafter run HaRet.exe, then wait a few mins for android to launch on my HD2.
It all sounds (too) straightforward in hindsight. Even though I've managed to install the brilliant CHTEditor and more on my phone and tweak the registry to some extent, somehow the installation of android seemed quite daunting until now. But I'll give it a go asap and, in the meantime, thanks to those of you who have taken the trouble to contribute to this thread and help me out.
Cheers!
Hey
I am like yourself on HD2 O2 UK. My current setup is in my signature. What I have found though is no matter what setup/android rom I use, I always get regular drop in data. I don't know if any other setup has worked for any of the users where they have no interruptions with data.
May I also suggest getting a task killer and setcpu from market for help with decent battery life.
Nik
Up until recently I always used RMNET builds as the data is much more reliable. However, i upgraded to 2.15 radio and this seems to have virtually eliminated PPP disconnects for me.
Thanks, i will give that a try.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Hey dazzyb2k3
May I ask what RMNET rom do you use?
Nik
Hi, just to say that I managed to install HSPL and radio ROM 2.15 and FroYo was running v.nicely thank you... up until I had an error message advising that "LauncherPro beta has expired" and asks that I download an updated version - which is not easy given that all the phone will let me do is go into either Silent or Airplane mode, reboot or power off (!)
I see that other FroYo users have reported this issue as a major pain in the arse, so I'm trying to see how I can overcome this issue at the mo. However, I'd suggest that others bear this in mind when choosin which Android software to download (plus the fact that, at the mo, I still prefer my HD2's WinMo 6.5, HTC Sense and CHTEditor after all!)

Yes! This is all correct! except don't name it leoimg.nbh, until you want to flash it back to stock (rare ;P) otherwise it will flash it everytime you enter bootloader!

Are you using Shubcraft?
If so, there's a fix for that here.....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8698216&postcount=7589
Sorry, should have mentioned earlier that I was using a download called Mattcfroyosense1.7ppp for my Android set-up, and I presume this incorporates an (out-of-date?) loader to kick-start things.
I only installed it late Weds evening and all seemed fine for 36hrs till this confounded error msg started appearing.
Any suggestions? (my first thought is to delete the Andoid folders from my SD card and start from scratch, and maybe download the LauncherPro upgrade asap from Marketplace should it srin back to life..?)
There is a version 1.8 if i'm not mistaken http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736545
Although I haven't used any other build than darkstones sense builds so never used launcher pro, can you not uninstall launcher pro and use sense as mattc's is a sense build?
Btw, I have looked up that link you kindly supplied and it looks promising (in fact I have found LauncherPro-0.8.1.1 which I hops should be up to the job) but I'm sorry to say that I'm dumbfounded as to where to install it on my device or storage card - the link supplied suggests I need to "make a new directory named "app" in your /root/system/ directory, then copy the Launcher Pro app that I attached to this message to your /root/system/app/ directory. Then reboot and everything should be OK" but I just cannot locate the appropriate folders to drop this .apk file into...
i only stumbled across this today trying to fix the HTC camera issue.
The way i accessed it was to download "super manager" from the market place and used its file manager. The root is actually a higher level than the sd card which can only be accessed with a root file manager.
There is another way to "push" it but thats a bit beyond my knowledge if i'm honest.
Yay! People from the UK on O2
Its such a pain that the search won't let you use 'UK' and 'O2'
What are people using at the moment then?
I'm using,
radio: 2.15.50.14
wm: Energy Rom 21683
Android: FroyoStone Sense - V3.2
I get music stuttering with the above, regular data drops and BSOD every so often on a restart
I then upgraded the kernel to hastarin r8
The only thing I get now is absolutly no data! everything else is perfect though
I tried this ril wrapper for pppd disconnections, new v0.3 but now I get no data and no signal either
What have you guys got?
I would have posted links to all the above but apparently I''m not allowed
I'm also having no data problems on my o2-uk hd2. it was a lot better with old builds.

[Q] HD2 Android?

after waiting for a while to see if windows 7 would be released publicly for this phone, and after finish paying off the phone i have decided to just say "Screw you microsoft" and go with an android build, but i have NO idea where to start with this.
The basics of my knowledge of cell phones is that i have put cookies home tab editor, and a few extra things on my phone, i have backed up my phone a couple of times, and i even done the official t-mobile upgrade for my phone, i know a decent amount about computers in general, but haven't had the chance to play around with my phone and it's OS like i have with a computer, being that my phone is very important to me because of my work, and that i don't have a house phone, only my cell phone.
So, could someone at least direct me to all of the forums with the best downloads for the andriod OS, and extras that i will need to get android working on my HD2?
and am i able to run cookies home tab on my HD2 even if it has android OS?

Don't quote me on this, but from what I've heard HSPL2/3 indeed are not required, but if you somehow screw up your phone without them, you're basically ****ed. HSPL2/3 should always (well, most of the time) be able to revert you back to stock.

You don't need to upgrade HSPL at all. What you must have (100% MUST!!) is a radio version 2.08 or later (2.x.50 versions, NOT 2.x.51 versions).
Until the recent release of the official 3.14 ROM there was no other way to upgrade the radio to the minimum required other than custom flashing, which requires a HSPL upgrade. (Not 100% sure that 3.14 was the first, but I believe it was).
Either way, it's the radio that's crucial to Android - not HSPL.
(I ain't no Android chef or dev - this is just gleaned from what I've read on this forum, so may not be 100% accurate, but it's never failed for me.)
ok, mine Radiois 2.15.50.14, so that means i don`t need to update radio, rom is 3.14.479.2(wwe) it`s stock one...
I have another question then: after installing android on sd card, is there any changes made to stock wm rom or else? or it`s just installing android on sd, and after formating sd card everything will be stock? thnx...

Nothing else to do - just copy the android folder to your card and then run the 2 apps (clrcad & haret). Personally, I use a bootloader that runs with Windows, so when I reboot my phone I get the option to run Android or "run" Windows. (Windows is obviously already running at that point. It just closes the app if you select Windows.)
You don't need to format your card to go back to your current config. Just reboot your phone and don't run Android.

Thank you, now it`s easier to understand everything, i just thought that clrcad & haret, is needed to run only on first use, and it makes some changes to stock config of hd2. sorry if i misunderstood smthng, i`m new to android on hd2.

No worries mate - glad to help. Hope you get it running - Android's sweet
rather than start a new thread, i have a supplementary question.
It's hard to search for this question, so apologies if it's been covered.
Is it better to run a stripped down custom WM ROM to boot android? or will a stock WM ROM (with the correct radio etc.) run Android just as good?
Does it make a difference?
(I just got a stock HD2 with 3.14 ROM and 2.08.50... radio...)

[Mar 04][Q] Android on SD

Hi, this is my first post here
I've been here for a long time (well didn't have a handset so didn't find the need to join...)
I read through many articles and learned a lot from this forum
Last weekend I got my T-Mobile HD2 and I proceeded to install custom rom soon after
(latest Energy rom by NRGZ28- thanks)
The rom is awesome, it's just that I wanna try out android on my phone also...
I decided I'll try the SD first
So I followed a guide just downloaded the rom I want (MCCM GB V2.0 Gingerbread HoneyComb Sense theme) unzip, then copy to the root of my sd, run clrcad (don't know what he meant by working sound- I heard nothing) then run haret....
Then I am always stuck at the green letters screen forever, never get further...
I'm not sure what is wrong
I looked through all possible things
I did HardSPL4 and now has HSPL2.08, I got a custom rom
The only thing I did not change and think might be the problem is the radio...
my version is 2.10.50.26
Would flashing an updated radio make my android on sd work?
Is this "Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14**" ok for my HD2? (on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787)
Thanks for the help nice to talk to everyone~

Ha I guess you did not like the first option, so I will edit the whole post.
Running Andriod from SD is very simple as long as you follow the instructions to the T. If the Andriod folder you copied to your SD card has another folder in it that you have to open to get to CLRCLAD and HARET then you need to copy that folder to the root of your SD card. It is also important the name of the folder is Andriod. The first time you boot the Andriod it can take up to ten minutes sometimes cause it has to creat folders, files, and pathways. So maybe you are not giving it enough time to boot all the way up beforeo you hit the reset button or do a battery pull. Your SD card also needs to be formated correctly you want to format it usimg Fat 32, please make a back up copy of your card also if you reformat it as it will wipe it clean. Last but not least you may just have a bad download. Try redownloading the build and recopy it to your SD card then run CLRCAD and HARET.
The only thing a radio will do is cure robot sounding voices during a phone call while running Andriod but most builds now have that solved and are compatible with the current radio 2.15.50.14. Also when you touch on CLRCAD you will see or hear nothing it enables the sound on the Andriod build.
Last but not least being you have a TMOUS (T-Mobile) HD2. Be adviced that you most flash a radio version that has a 50 in the third set of numbers like 2.xx.50.xx. Do not flash a radio that has a 51 in the third set of numbers like 2.xx.50.xx. or a radio that looks like this 2.04.50.xx or 2.05.50.xx as they will brick your TMOUS HD2 reindering it usless for nothing but a paper wieght. And the only way to unbrick a HD2 is with a JTAG and a ORT wich will cost you and you will have to take your HD2 apart to fix.
O_O is the issue that difficult?
I don't mind calling though
Thanks

I use a Gingerbread build too.

[Q] Easy one stop Android?

Ive for an HD2 im going to give to my friends girlfriend to replace her current T-Mobile phone thats junk and has a cracked screen.
I have installed HSPL 2.08 to match the stock SPL, but now ive come to a stand still.
I only have a 4GB card right now (unless someone can tell me how to format one from a WP7 device, Windows wont recognize it).
Im getting confusing info about the US devices and radio's as well.
Isnt there a one step install for Android to SD card? Even the 'easy for noobs' directions has many confusing steps.
Unfortunately, no. The easiest way would be sd android run with haret from within windows mobile, but even that requires an updated radio.
Just put windows mobile back, update the radio (which is relatively easy if you read enough) and drop any sd build on your sd card and then click on "clrcad.exe." then "haret" from File Explorer on your phone.
That's the easiest.
Never took WinMo off but i did manage to get a 16 gig card to use. How do i tell what radio it has?
Go into settings > software information > radio.
That's it.
I recommend flashing 2.15.50 (if you don't already have one that is 2.08 or above)
2.15.50.14? Cause thats the one i've seen said 'use' and 'dont use'.
Ok, its got that radio on it. So i guess im good and can just find an image to put on the SD.
Just go into the SD android development, pick a ROM, download it and extract it into /Android/ on your sdcard.. then follow my first post.
Which Android version it is more suitable for the HTC HD2
I have an HTC HD2 running the original windows professional 6.5. and I m interested to install the Android OS in order to get
a faster an easy OS.
But after reading several posts and watching a lot of vieos on Youtube I feel lost which Android version it is more suitable to my smartphone
and if it is possible to get a little bit of more speed I woul be very happy.
As far as I understand i will require to burn or change my ROM first and then install the Android. But there are the Rafdroid version, the Ice Cream the Jelly Bean and so. Today I read a notice somewhere that a a guy have obtained 1.66 Ghz of speed at the HTC HD2 that it is amazing.
A little of speed would be great but the most important it is to have the Android because it is easy and may allow me to view videos ouside
youtube.
I will appreciate you advice and comments how to decide about the Android version.

Well, i did, i found AmeriCanAndroid. But when i launch Haret it says it cant find the zImage which is not in the NativeSD folder, but in the kernal/boot folder. Also in following the guide for this on YT, when i copy it to the SD its only 123 megs, not 232 like in the video. So im lost as to whats going on.
Also, my ex-wife had an HD2 briefly that had Android on it that you could launch from a shortcut on the home screen. Any idea how to do that?
Ok, i got this resolved. Once i realized MAGLDR wipes WinMo off i found an EXCELLENT video on YT for dual booting WP7 and Android. Thanks to the guy who made it, very thorough and had the links to the required software in the comments.
