Xperia play update 4.0.a.2.368 - Xperia Play General

So i just updated my phone to 4.0.a.2.368 and i noticed a lot of really nice changes. Since there aren't any official notes (or at least not ones i can find) i will be posting changes i noticed here along with personal opinion on some of them without a particular order...
xLOUD-The soundspeaker loudness is greatly increased and the sound is so much better.
Media Player-When you play a song the backround of the player changes to a color most noticable in the album art
-looks great
Infinity Button Upgraded-You can now search for artist on wikipedia, lyrics on google and karaoke videos on youtube.
-Finally the button is useful
Lock Animation-It is changed to an old-style tv turn off
-It looks great and kinda gives nostalgia
App Refresh on Reboot-Before i updated my phone every time i rebooted it I had to let it ''sit'' for 5 minutes so it loads all the apps from the sd card and if you opened the menu you would have to reboot it again...but now it shows an icon on every non-loaded app that quickly refreshes to give the real app
-yes yes yes my brother always said its the worst thing about this phone so now i can rub it in his face
Themes-Basically like wallpaper but changes the background of some apps like Messaging
Messaging-Now it opens up so much faster and has a different boot animation
Call handling-You can now manage what calls you receive and block
-I was always wondering why wasn't this already included,i mean all my older phones have it
Timescape-Doesn't freeze when you move the widget and scrolls a lot smoother,in addition Extension Manager has been added so you can get more content to Timescape from more sites and you can also see calls and messages.
Wireless Radio-It seems like its power is increased and you don't get disconnected from older routers altho i haven't been able to test this longer than 30 minutes.
Status switch Widget-The old 4x1 has been replaced with a new 3x2 one
-It looks ugly and it messed up my perfect widget arrangement
Weather widget-Pretty self explanatory
-Now i can delete space-consuming Weatherbug
Favorites and Recent Calls Widget-Also self explanatory
-Its huge but i guess it is useful and at least looks nice
Be sure to add stuff you notice and i will update more stuff tomorow
Be sure to say thanks...as you can see I'm a noob and a pioneer from my country

Already a thread about it. ;-)

Well it is sort of better but you don't get disconnected when the signal gets under 20% and i have noticed i can play zinga poker now where in the last update it would disconnect me from wifi as soon as i started playing, but now it runs great

I got the update via OTA today (Philippines) and I still have root. Rooted using Gingerbreak 1.20.

OTA for UK now also
preys this fix the ****ty wifi issues *finger crossed*

Bad news for me, the OTA udpate fails on the fourth dot.
Does this mean I deleted an app that it checks to see if you are on stadard build>? Do I have to go back to Uk Generic and root then ota?
thank in advance

Update is available to R800a users. I'm running Generic usa I think.
79mb ota.

Try it one more time. But did you delete a stock app? I just froze all of mine and the update was fine.

My fails to update as well should I unroot first then update?

@nelly_boy & Xplay. If you have uninstalled anything from your phone after rooting. The ota update will fail.
As you have said nelly_boy you will have to reflash to 2.3.2 to get the stuff you deleted back then root then do the ota to get 4.0.a rooted.
@Xplay. You dont have to unroot to ota update. The whole point of updating using ota is to keep root.

How about the camera and video recording? Any improvement?
Thanks

But I believe they enabled stereo sound recording for video.

I need immediate solution !!!

I have a problem with the X10 a week ago I got a software update to version R2BA026 and since then the phone is behaving strangely that is to say:
- Uses a battery at an alarming dumb
- Not forgetting that during the conversation is too quiet
- Slow as a snail have to wait before doing anything
- When will the picture and comes up with the camera no longer refresh the application "desktop" or watch stops, the battery level does not change, nothing happens
- Very often you reboot your phone to be able to use it anyway
We ask all of you give some effective solutions ... dressing to restoring the factory settings ... Recommend some programs like launcher, weather widget, etc.
try repair true SEUS
I agree with doing a Repair / Reset. Use Sony Ericsson Update Service not PC Companion.
Also sounds like you need to look at the apps / widgets you've got running. If you do a clean reset then only reinstall one at a time to make sure that there isn't one thats messing with your phone. (I had a battery monitor widget that was just eating my battery like no tomorrow)
So reset the phone :-\ can recommend proven applications?

Don't use any task killer, that will save your battery and prevent the clock problem....
sent from my x10i that is banging for a 2.1 upgrade. ...
Erm I don't think you should worry about more applications at mo til ya make some progress with the current situation.
I think you can try fiddle with settings such as turning gps, wifi, 3g n bluetooth of when not in use..
Avoid gps sharing location and try avoid auto sync!
Do manual updates for apps or if ya prefer automatic try make the update interval more reasonable..
Go into sound n display n change brightness to manual.. u won't need it really bright!
I'm sure more people wil giv ya more tips.. I'm jus working on theme at mo but thought I'd share some basic pointers.. altho u prob knew them anyway lolz
Hope it works out for ya!!
P.s - im sure blank sd card is fine.. wel its worked for me before!.. also im using 026 root, your description would sound nothing like mine cuz all is well on my side xcept for the in call volume that is!

Did it unroot your tab or any other bad thing? I have not seen this update on my sprint tab.
yes, if your update does succeed. It WILL unroot the Sprint Tab.
z4root WILL NOT WORK after the new update, it will just crash.
SUPERoneCLICK root software WILL work though! =]
Also make sure your LCD DPI Density Level is set to stock 240, and make sure if you replaced such files like WPA_SUPLICANT, to the one that supports AD_HOC to tether data from your cell phones to your TAB, You have to replace it Back with the STOCK WPA_SUPPLICANT in order for the Update to succeed.
Also another user had a problem with failed update due to him replacing the Gallary3d.apk with a non-stock one. So make sure you restore your stock gallary3d.apk if you ever replaced it.
Does the update fix the HID Bluetooth issue?

OTA updates work just fine on WIFI only. I use my tab as WiFi only.
The Update Firmware/Profile features do not work on settings app if u use wifi only, but your not missing our on anything trust me.
You will see the OTA update soon, leave your WiFi on, and eventually other the next couple days youll see it.
If you want it now, jus download the file and install it. Its much easier, no need to wait.
I shut the tab down and booted it up again, the update showed up.
The new widgets are great . Thanks for the prompt response

Noticed Changed (Myself):
- Darker Hues, The previous bright blues are now Darker dull blues
- Widgets (3 new ones)
- Ram Management App
- Task Manager
- Clearing ram seems to free up a little bit more now.
- Ram seems to be used a little less
- Boot Logos (HORRIBLE SPRINT LOGOS, YUCK, I want my samsung logo back)
- Breaks root, z4Root does not work - use SuperoneClick
- GPS locked into my location Noticably faster in the same spot INSIDE my house within 10 seconds, where it usually takes anywhere from 30-40seconds. Who knows. Maybe just a coincidence?
I like some of the changes.....subtle, but tasteful.
I uninstalled z4root since u mentioned it broke root, but superuser is still present nor can I uninstall it....
U mentioned superoneclick, where could I fund that and do you even recommend rooting again? I ask because I feel like us sprint tab owners are left behind and there aren't really many upsides to being rooted at this point.....no quality roms are anything. What are u rockin? Thanks again

There's a really annoying bug after this OTA update. The notification drawer pull down animation is now very choppy. Also, if there's anything animated going on when you pull down the drawer the frame rate will drop dramatically. This is a real step back; it used to be perfectly smooth.
Since I ran the update this a.m., I seem to be stuck in USB debugging limbo. It's grayed out and the green check mark is on but feint, so I can't seem to use the SuperOneClick app.
Any ideas?
I was previously rooted but that went away. Also, I forgot... how do I reset the darn thing? TIA
I had notification it was downloaded, but when i went to apply it, the upgrade failed. My Tab is very stock, though I do have Z4Root installed (though, like my Evo, Z4 never did work.)
Market issue?
Has anyone else noticed a difference in the market after the OTA update? Searches on known apps come up blank.
I have z4root and the update went though on mine just fine.

it might not of installled, check your about my galaxy tab under the settings app. is it EA24?
The Update failed to complete, but it unrooted my Tab and Z4root fails to complete the operation when run.
Real nuisance I can yell you!
I see someone reckons SuperOneClick will work. I haven't got around to linking my Tab to a PC and it appears thats the only way to get the proggy to work??
cheers

HA!!! I just check and it looks like it didn't take!!! Well there you have it. Now Im curious if the update will show again. Hmmm.....
Also, manual install will not work....
It failed for me on the ota and manual,
It failed due to first, wpa_supplicant i switched from the stock to the one that suppoorts adhoc. So i put the stock one back. Then i tried it again and it said buildprop error.
I looked into that and it was cause i changed the lcd density of the stock from 240 to 180. So i changed it bak.
Then it worked.
Also if you changed any of the stock software it will fail as it verifys the correct files before update.

[INFO] Music beta had updated

Hey all,
I am in Taiwan, and I got an update about Google Music beta last night.
Cause I had slept, so I did not test it yet.
I will report the states after trying it.
Hope this update can solve some issues in 3.1.
Sigh ... still hold the same issues ...
Wait for next update
It won't install for me. I can see the update but when I click to update it doesn't do anything.
I guessed it was because I'm not in the US and the Music Beta is for US only, but now I see you're in Taiwan and installed it fine.
So did you do anything special to get it to work?

Thanks, I suppose I'll keep trying.
Anything new or interesting other than the cloud service stuff?
I'm in the UK, received a Music Beta invite on Monday, currently uploading music to Google. Working fine. Sideloaded Music which says its version 3.0 to my DHD as the TF was sent back and awaiting a new one.

Yeah, I just managed to run the update and nothing seems changed.
I was mistaken and the update has nothing to do with the Music Beta, I guess the big banner up top in the Market threw me off.
IM HAVING MAJOR ISSUES WITH MUSIC BETA AND MUSIC APP 3.01!! Is anyone else seeing the following?
I have the most updated music app on both my TF and Nexus S 4g and they both experience the same problem. When I am playing music from both online and offline music (shuffling all lets say) it will play a few songs fine and then it gets completely hung up and wont respond to any input. The app will not reset even if i kill the music app, when i go to reopen music it takes to a black screen with nothing on it. Its very weird and very annoying when a tab and phone cant do something as simple as playing a song. In order to fix it I have to turn the phone or tab off completely and then turn it on and it plays some songs then eventually gets hung up. Again, this is happening on my gingerbread 2.3.4 device and my honeycomb 3.1 device.
I can also see the update Music by Google Inc, but it does not install. It says V3.0.1 from 26th May 2011!
Any suggestions how to I get it updated?
rio
PS: I'm in UK

At first, I had same problem as yours.
But after 3 hrs later, the Update is working for me.
I didn't know what happened but mostly is the market's issue ( I guess).
Any way, this update changed not thing.
And I still use PowerAMP to play music. But the UI is designed for 800x480.
So I wish the Music Beta can fix those issues quickly ...
Is there any relationship between the Music Beta updates from Marketplace, and the status of the Invite? I recieved the update yesterday, but my Invite is still being processed. Wondering if my TF is being preped for the activation....

___________________________________
Theme support, available under 'Display' settings or with a long-press option on the home screen. Still limited to a handful of SE themes but if you always wanted less blue in the menus it's now an option.
The Gingerbread CRT-off animation makes its first appearance!
The widget overview accessed with a pinch on the home screen now has the widgets floating about. Shaking the phone sends them flying. Pretty and smooth animation but it makes the overview practically unusable IMO, I'll tap SE about this.
Several ring tones have disappeared, among others the one I were using (Digital Phone). Not a big issue.
I'm finally able to set a silent alarm! Previous firmwares allowed setting the alarm sound to 'None' in the list but always defaulted back to the last set sound anyway. This is now fixed.
Setting the alarm time now entails spinning dials instead of clicking. Faster but less precise.
Various UI text is now smaller and sharper.
Additional bloatware, of which some can be uninstalled without root.
'Connected Devices', a more intuitive and cleaner version of the DLNA media server software.
The address book looks a bit different, I think. Unfortunately it's still impossible to change the sorting order of contacts.
The photo album offers a few more options when you call up the menu.
Digital zoom available at all camera resolutions. Only for images though, not video.
Compression levels of still pictures remain overly high.
xLOUD option to significantly enhance audio output strength from the rear speaker. Almost painfully loud IMO.
Using the HDMI mirroring feature now forces the home screen into landscape mode for a better fit with widescreen TVs.
There is also the Keyboard option for International (full keyboard or Phonepad !)
Minor updates:
Video Editor
Data Monitor
Contact Widget
Timescale extension search
Friends & Music
Setup screen has been changed
Nice Update Center
Etc.
They introduced
New weather widget
New layouts for background theme management
New Xloud benefits
Etc
Enjoy!

Who knows, can't say I've been bothered.
There is also a new 'ticker' feature for your lock screen, you can get feeds from facebook, news or stocks..check that out, there may also be some new multi window apps, can't remember seeing youtube there before.

oh is there sounds good i will have to check it out.
i cant see youtube on mine and im still on 4.1.1
its a shame that you cant have all your apps in multi window without rooting your device and that, pretty annoying tbh.
i think i read you can modify the appone by one but thats long specially if u have to update the app etc n have lots of apps on your device
This is update for those who DIDN'T have 4.1.2 before?
Or is this update an update ON TOP of 4.1.2?
This is the official update for the UK to 4.1.2 as we seem to have been waiting for a long time. Cannot comment on whether it is any different to other countries 4.1.2 but nice to see I can now run standard Android Twitter client as a multi-window app.
Could anyone upload this firmware? I can't download it from kies as im not on official firmware
Might be on sammobile.com...
Not on Sammobile at the moment.
Dont remember seeing lecture notes & papyrus as multi window apps prior to the update today, but they are in the list now for sure.
New apps added with multi-window on my Note are:- Astro File Manager, ChatOn, Chrome, Facebook, Gmail, Google Maps, MX Player, Google Talk, Twitter and YouTube. I know I had Papyrus in 4.1.1 and I think I may have had MX Player but not sure on that one.
Multi-window seems a little difficult to make work sometimes - the multi-window button appears in the bottom right corner on some of these and doesn't always work, seeming to activate whatever is under the button. Also can't see the button anywhere on Papyrus - how does it work on here - this would be really useful for me?
At last youtube and snotes on stock multiwindow!!
and being able too edit which apps and in what order they appear on the multi window bar, this tablet gets better and better
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Unfortunately it looks like they still haven't fixed the, USB storage not being recognised, problem.
Lads if I used the Exynos exploit root patch to root my 8010 can I just do the OTA update and then the device will return back to stock i.e. not rooted?
