Cincinnati Bell Froyo update for Milestone XT720!!! - Milestone XT720 Android Development

Has anyone tried the official Cincinnati Bell Froyo update for their Milestone XT720?
Finally, there's an official release for this. Check it out here!

No way!?
An official release from CIncinnati Bell!?
How come nobody has said anything about this yet!?

It's an article, any download links?? Rev?
**Edit**
325MB is quite large, (downloading anyway) Rev or any of the guys, can you break down the contents and see what's up please? Much appreciated!
**Edit**
I just browsed through the PDF instructions and it seems that you may opt to have an unrooted 2.2.. Nice!! Although we still don't know how this ROM performs, i'll flash the nandroid once i get the download to finish and post how it goes, although i'm not quite sure if i'm gonna use titanium backup.. I'm used to being on the user's end not the tester's.. LOL..!

There are links in the general forum in this thread

I guess he isn't allowed to post it in the proper forum without being treated like a jackass??? We know you beat everybody to it.

Have you tried playing HD video yet?

i read thru the CB update.. seems like its dex ROM with modifications? so i presume theres no benefits to changing to that over Khal's?

It's unrooted Dexter's Froyo
It's unrooted Dexter's Froyo....

I cannot root my device after upgrading to this ROM.
I stucked at Reading OS Version Properties.
I just click OK when it asked if my ROM is 2 or newer, and nothing happen. My device still unroot.

Should be backing up SD card and flashing the rom with a spanking clean one and shouldn't have any issues. The data and apps will cause conflicts if you dont

Go back to sprint from from flashrec - newbee

Hi
I used the flashrec method and all is well. - I like the new rom
did a nandroid backup on it
I was wondering how do you go back to sprint - if say when they come out with eclair??
also if I wanted to install fresh rom or mocado 2.0 rom do I simply start up by holding low volume and off button
then load the new rom right over the old one from the zip that is installed on my sdcard
also do i make a new nandroid backup of the new one
and if so, do I take the old nandroid backup and copy it to my computer for safety
thanks

This man speaks the truth.
It surprises me that you did not find the answers to your questions BEFORE you rooted. What if you read now that you can NEVER go back to stock?

You can download the new RUU that coldsweat posted, look for it in one of the wiki's. It will take you back to what you phone was when purchased, no more root.
If you want to try a new ROM you can install the nandroid backup once you gained root, which you should have done when you rooted, then install the new ROM. Some ROMs or Devs say you can install right over the existing one. I'd suggest wiping the ROM then installing the new one especially if you plan on using ROMs by different Devs. I'd also suggest doing a backup after each ROM install and saving every backup on your computer, just in case.

ROM Backup - Is there a way?

Hi everyone,
is there a way to backup my current ROM? I'm new in the Omnia and I wanted to have a backup of my ROM for two reasons:
1) Safe measure in case anything goes wrong with new ROMs
2) My phone comes with a one year warranty but of course they will check if some one ( ) messed up the ROM before fixing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
The stock ROM is available for download from Verizon, I have a copy of it available to i will put on my server later. It is the same as the factory shipped Verizon one. There is a tool available to dump the ROM from the phone but kind of a waste of time IMO as its the same as we all have.

Great to see a new topic for Omnia2!
A million thanks jeffrey! Great finding! That's exactly what I was looking for! Will try it today!

NICE, thanks so much this is exactly what i needed since my update keeps freezing at 31% when i try to upgrade to the latest Samsung rom,
I understand that Verizon provides the stock roms, but is there a way to back it up? I have a bell omnia 2 that i'd like to back up the csc and phone portions of the rom before i go ahead and flash up to something better...

If you only flash the PDA nb0 portion of the ROM, you wont risk messing up your csc or phone part. Someone else might have more info, but from what ive heard you can dump the whole ROM, but not use it as a backup. have to do some more reading on that.

froyo? android 2.2?

ok i do a search but im kind new in android in fact after a fraud and a lot of time i get my money back and i buy on ebay to a top seller ._.
well anyways my nexus one its on way i just want to know if froyo its already up?i mean i read from a leaked evrsion or test version. but can someone point me any rom?i will test my device before root, but when i test and i get the root i will try install froyo or maybe a desire rom thanks a lot and sorry for noobish question. i came from windows mobile and its a new world here ._.

Follow that, skip step 2. And before you click "New Thread" next time, use search and open your eyes.
Here's a link to where you can find all the ROMs and radio available for your N1 after rooting it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654869
You can never go wrong with the ROMs available right now. They all have their benefits, pros and cons so I suggest you try em yourself.
Froyo isn't officially out yet, so it wont be available via OTA for who knows when. The leaked version is available to try out, and although there are minor issues on this ROM, its definitely usable and I'm very satisfied with it.

Cyanogenmod 6.1 for GT i9000 Chat

What?
is CM finally out of development phase or smth?
Edit: As you can probably tell, I am an impatient bastard.
Is the packaged version non-rfs then?
Thanks.
Two post, two fails.
JUST READ THIS DAMN THREAD! ALL INFOS ARE STILL THERE!
Yay! Thanks Aery. I appreciate all the hard work you guys have put into this.
Well done !
Excellent stuff. I have run it since this afternoon and it's already a great improvement over the Samsung firmware.
So far I have found that it does not seem to find other Blue-tooth devices (just like it says on the buglist). I have tested with my carkit (Parrot CK3100) and will test with my laptop tomorrow.
Keep up the great work! I am so happy I have the beginning of a CM on my phone!
Thanks Aery. For me work perfectly. i'm on jp5 (new italian froyo, jpp modem). I appreciate all the hard work you guys have put into this.
Well done !

This version is SERIOUSLY fast compared to the old ones... lagfix definately did the trick. Used packaged .zip version.

Radio's and SLPL

Hi, the title says it all, i just want to know what a radio & a SLPL is? Yes i'm a n00b, and there i have no shame in calling myself that becuase everyone starts from somewhere. Looking forward to learning, so hopefully someone can help me.
I've made this thread because i'm looking to put the 'Ginger Yoshi' rom on the HTC Magic, and it says you will need the new radio, and some SLPL? Also how do you put these on the phone, & where you download it from? Thanks

Welcome to XDA forums! I'm just a fellow member, but I still want to welcome you here
First, do you know if you have a 32A or 32B device? You have posted that you have a Desire S - do you have both that and Magic? Be sure to read everything you can about rooting and Android in general before trying to install new software on it. You see, I managed to brick my Magic without learning enough before action!
Secondly, CyanogenMod Wiki is a great resource for checking out what all these things mean. See it here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Terminology
For example, answers to your question:
SPL
Second Program Loader, in conjunction with the IPL comprise a device's bootloader. Aside from bootstrapping Android, the bootloader also fulfills various diagnostic functions. One of these functions is the manipulation of data in the device's internal flash ram. Depending on the SPL installed, the user might be able to flash signed NBH files, flash nand images, and more. Note that the SPL is installed and operates independently of the Android build that runs atop it. Generally speaking, there are two variants of the SPL: Stock, which is 'locked' and is installed on most devices from the factory, and Engineering, which is 'unlocked' and has to be manually flashed - usually after 'rooting'.

That's an AWESOME price! I bought mine for £150 last summer!
But to the point - have you gotten any useful information out of the CM wiki? XDA Wiki has great articles, too, but it isn't as fulfilling. With ambition and good resources, you'll learn what you need fast and possibly in a week or a few days you can be able to take care of ROM flashing, customizing your phone a lot more deeply than changing a few settings, getting full access (that people should always have) to your phone's all capabilities and even using it as a WiFi box!
Oh, and if you find anything here on the forums useful or good, press the thanks button. You have 5 clicks a day for it. That's a good way to show the poster appreciation so they can see their work worthful
You've got to take into account it's 2 years old now, plus i got it used of ebay ;( - Oh and CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it.
SO do you think it's worth £37, or should i just say no, or sell it off when it comes? I'm confused at the moment, because CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it so i don't know what to do, and also don't know if it's worth the money i paid for it.

Once you've got past root and recovery, you then can change spl/radio according to your desired rom.

IMO it very well is. A good device with decent hardware, especially for the price.
They've stopped supporting it only OFFICIALLY, but there are still many development working on it for Magic, and there are a few good ROMs - like Ginger Yoshi, Carz12's CyanogenMod 7.1 and of course SebastianFM's HTC Sense ROM.
Read, read, read. Mdacompactuser posted a good link
Cheers everyone. Hopefully we can all think that's it a 'mission' & work together on this . Right i've learnt that i can root the phoen via superoneclick, and get the superuser access. Ok next i was going to do everything via rom manager, however now that option is basically gone for me, as CM are not supporting it, but i can flash the recovery from there. I have chosen clockwork recovery, so flashing it via rom manager should be good. I'll have a look at the link you sent me, and hopefully we can regenerate interest in this device again, and make it gain popularity, so we can be on the official forum boards, instead of the low activity devices. That's the plan, everyone up for it? xD>

If you look in this forum alone, you'll find everything you need to carry out a rom update. As Kanttii pointed out its crucial you know what your phone is before you do anything. I'd stick to guides found on this forum as opposed to ones found elsewhere on the web, simply because the people who wrote the guides on here are more likely to respond to specific queries you may have.
I have to say I found mumilovers posts very complete and useful, so personally I'd start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756918
and then go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824435
Obviously there are other methods, but like I said before, a guide is much better when the author is around to help when you get something wrong or something doesn't make sense to you.
Thanks the phone will probably come today through the post, so i'll read the threads you sent me links to, and hopefully i'll be able to understand most of it . Thanks again .
Wow i managed to also root my phone without bricking it, and installed clockwork mod recovery. I downloaded set cpu, but i'm on default android 2.2 so i can't overclock it. Now i'm confused about how to put a custom rom on it.
EDIT: Right now i'm a bit scared to install custom rom on it, but i got a question:
In rom manager, when i go to the download section, i see a rom called Roalex, is that a good one?
The top one on that is called: COS-DS-071822011_I1? SO if i click install on that will it be a good one?
