Hi everyone,
is there a way to backup my current ROM? I'm new in the Omnia and I wanted to have a backup of my ROM for two reasons:
1) Safe measure in case anything goes wrong with new ROMs
2) My phone comes with a one year warranty but of course they will check if some one ( ) messed up the ROM before fixing.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
The stock ROM is available for download from Verizon, I have a copy of it available to i will put on my server later. It is the same as the factory shipped Verizon one. There is a tool available to dump the ROM from the phone but kind of a waste of time IMO as its the same as we all have.

I'm a member here since a long time, I had a HTC Wizard (MDA Vario 1) before, then omnia 1 and now Omnia 2, but just saw @Modaco that there's an Omnia 2 section here which I didn't know it excisted, and I just changed my avatar here

NICE, thanks so much this is exactly what i needed since my update keeps freezing at 31% when i try to upgrade to the latest Samsung rom,

If you only flash the PDA nb0 portion of the ROM, you wont risk messing up your csc or phone part. Someone else might have more info, but from what ive heard you can dump the whole ROM, but not use it as a backup. have to do some more reading on that.

If I am not wrong, there is only one version for wing and you will get it with that. How ever, I am sure you are NOT going to stay with that . You will definetly flash it to one of sexy roms Touch-IT,WWE v1.1 or PDAVIET Touch Flo Professional Rom v4.12.07.12.

I suggest you spend the next week trying to familirize(correct spelling?) yourself with the flashing process and trying to cover the problems that others have when flashing, pretty much read the entire Herald forum. I know it seems like a lot but you'll be glad that you did once your Wing arrives. This way you will already know which edits are needed (such as PP) and which edits are useful or flashy and can waste memory (htc home plugin/slide2unlock.)
btw welcome to xda-dev, feel free to drop a PM when you need help.

I used the tmo update for a couple days. the fact that I flashed back to the old ROM should tell you that the update sucks. I personally hated it. they take more tweak ability away from the user. I think that was their only purpose in the update was to make it harder to tweak. I could be wrong though

i believe this is the newest OFFICIAL T-mobile wing ROM.
dont see why you would use it but whatever you want.
and i believe THIS is the newest build of WM6.1 but is not official for the wing but is still usable if you have hard-spl

hi, Im still kinda new to all this but would like to flash a new rom ,have read some of the threads and im still a little confused ..is there no way to make the like an .exe so it just runs like the rom ugrades on HTC website ...like i said new to all this and i figured if it could be done it would of but has to ask ..( wife would kill me if i bricked this phone)
They do run as an exe. Just unzip the file, then open the folder and double click customRUU.exe, and that will run just like an update from HTC!!
Make sure you have HSPL'd your phone first, and have a read of the stickies in the rom development forum first.

if you go down to about post 6 of the energy photon thread, there's a pretty complete lists of issues and the .cabs to fix them
yeah got it all running except ATT Navigator and i use that alot ..........
i havnt seen anything around about getting at&t nav back but there is always Tom Tom. search xda for that

I would have loved to contribute if I hadn't already made ONE MILLION different registry tweaks on this stock build.
Although, I'm picking up a second HD2 later this week... if and when shipment comes in, so if by then you don't have the standardized system dump, I'll gladly provide it for you.

What tweaks did you make? If it's all legal tweaks, wouldn't be a problem tho...

Dumping the ROM will not effect your registry changes. You are just dumping raw data image that we can use to recreate the ROM. Which will benefit everyone.
Just need the OS, Radio can be added from the other sources...
I have two, but the one I opened isn't working. Haven't decided if I want to try the second one yet.
Update: Removing the SIM card has the phone working fine.
Update2: 2nd phone works perfectly fine. Going to try 2nd SIM in 1st phone.
Update3: Identified as damaged SIM socket. Fail on T-Mobile.

I tried to dump a stock rom, my wife's phone, but after more than 2 hours she wanted to use the phone. I'll start it again tonight. It appeared to be running still but I didn't expect it to take that long.

Got it when released, then they took it down... As for the dump, slow going. Reset twice, but hope to have it done in the morning. Files are done, modules almost done... Just taking a long, long, long time...

I've been running .0. The OS, Sense, and other major aspects of the ROM are *exactly* the same as .1.

Failed again in the S's in Modules... Rerunning,,, but this takes a long, long, long time
I have a .1 ROM on my phone. TMOUS etc. I'd like to make a dump of the ROM and the Radio. I have no idea how to start though.
I have a purely unaltered stock rom. I installed stuff here and there but I did a hard reset to restore it back to factory condition. I pm you, but please don't post someones' altered rom as stock. I like to know that I can restore my unit to purely stock. -thx

I'm new in the forum and I just bought a galaxy note 2 n7100,I got it in china and has some kind of custom rom chinese I guess.
I also own a nexus 3 but I never changed the rom and is currently running android 4,2.
On my note I want to get an original rom or something that works well,what do you suggest me and what should I do?

You need to carefully read how to root and flash a new rom, if that's what you want. My site has an up-to-date list of Samsung Galaxy Note 2 ROMs. You can also see a few community links to information here at XDA, to help you learn how to root your device.
Read the threads carefully. You should follow the information for your Note II, not a different Note II.
Do you live in China? What do you mean some kind of custom rom Chinese? Did someone sell it with a custom rom on it?

thanks for your reply,I'm not chinese but I go often there.
Yes is a custom rom,with some Chinese stuff on it,as antivirus,something like whatapp but chinese and other stuff,I can't delete it and I would love to have a nice clean rom on it,can you please suggest me something?
do I need to make my device root before I install a ROM?

It's already rooted, don't worry.
Go to Settings > About device, and tell us what your baseband version is. Once knowing that, someone can point you in the direction of a nice ROM, which is as easy as making a few clicks.

Why not just flash stock sammy rom just like your Nexus3? The stock is good as it is for me. I would suggest go stock, then slap a 64gb microsd for hd movies for your trips to China ΓΌ
Updated roms should be round the corner anyway given the leaks mentioned everywhere.

Right it is,I just checked on terminal.
so it says android 4.1.1 based version N7100XXALIE
should I provide something else?
Also would be possible to make a back up of my samsung galaxy nexus 3 and move everything on my note 2?

Well hell, just go over to the Development section and download a nice ROM suited for your baseband. The N7100 has plenty of support.

You can backup your stuff from your Galaxy Nexus to your computer and move them over to your new phone. Unfortunately it doesn't have an SD card so you can't just move the card over and copy it.

I don't have an N7100, sorry. I can't give you any recommendations on ROMs for it.

as far as i know some note 2 from china is not n7100(refer to attached). please check the compatibility before flashing any n7100 rom..

Thanks mate but I already checked and the 7100 is the only one they were selling for now,there is a 2 sim card version coming soon and another one with china mobile,should be 7108 if i m not wrong.

Non-LTe gn2 is n7102.

This is my first ever smartphone and I recently found a used one on ebay for like $20. I bought it for the nostalgia, can you blame me?
I would really like to get something other than WinMo 5 on it. Ideally 6.1 since I know those were the most stable. But all of the links are dead--I've searched dozens of threads so far. Does ANYONE happen to have a link or a copy of one of the flashable ROMs left?

I was in the same situation as you for a while - it took years of on and off searching in order to find it, I even made some posts here under my old username (F84Win), forgot my password for that one though. Eventually a couple years ago I was able to track down the official WinMo 6.0 update thanks to me actually thinking about the best way to find it. It's RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe and a bunch of websites have re-uploaded it, so it shouldn't take more than a quick Google search of that filename to locate it. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any custom 6.1 or 6.5 ROMs with working links, but this'll at least get you up to 6.0.
EDIT: Someone on Reddit also found a Mega upload full of custom ROMs a few days ago, you might be able to find something interesting in there (Schap's 4.30, for example).
