I currently am stuck with at&t. would consider just switching to t-mobile, but their 3g doesn't exist in my area yet. at&t's does but the nexus's radio doesn't use the same 3g bands as you all know. Is this fixable. if at&t picks up this phone will I have to buy a new one for it to work. will this be able to be worked around some way. if it can I think I'm selling my fuze, as much as I love it, for this phone. I'm taking a big step, because I've learned to really like windows on this phone. everyone seems to really love their androids, but I'll see.
found the other thread discussing this. I see that it appears that the hardware is there, so I'm sure that the great members of xda will have this fixed in no time, unless it's just not end user flashable or fixable. it appears this could be the case. if it is though, and you bye this phone unlocked, and later it becomes available to at&t users. will they be able to unlock this feature? only time will tell I guess. I think I'm gonna bite the bullet and get it anyway, and just suck it up until t-mobile upgrades there service in my area. their plans and customer service are way better anyway
Wanted to know if anyone had there note 3 on ting, an mvno under sprint and if there were any differences than the sprint version. I wanted to bring my sprint note 3 over but they said i wouldn't be able to do that yet so im thinking about ordering theirs.

I pre-ordered the Note 3 on ting the day it went up on their website and recieved it on 11/6. I love the phone, but unfortunately 4G service has not worked once since I've had it. At first I assumed it was a bad phone so I called for an exchange. The tech support wanted to ensure I was in a 4G area so they asked me to do a side by side with another ting/Sprint phone to verify that it was indeed a bad phone. I knew for sure that I had been in a 4G coverage area with no luck, but I went along with it because overall, given some people's level of tech knowledge, I thought it was a reasonable request. I did the test, and just like I suspected, my wife's ting S4 had 4G just fine, while my Note 3 was stuck on 3G. So I called again a few days later seeking my exchange. This time, I was told that the problem was actually a known issue on Sprint's end. Apparently, because it was a new tri-band phone, Sprint was experiencing some problems on the new frequencies, so all newer phones were having the same problem. That would seem like a reasonable explanation; problem is the Note 3 is not a tri-band device. I kindly explained that to the tech, who then put me on hold. He came back with a new explanation: the problem was on ting's end, a software glitch that was mis-identifying Note 3's to the Sprint Network as 3G only devices. He assured me that they were working on the problem and would contact me when it was fixed. Sure enough, I got an email about a week later asking me to do a factory reset on my phone, and all would be good. I did, and all is not good, still no 4G. The tech than said he would elevate the issue with Sprint technical support. I'm still waiting to here the results. Frankly I'm getting tired of waiting. I'm going to call again tomorrow [12/3] and ask to return the phone.

Up until this issue I've loved ting. I switched over in March and have saved lots of money on service, $50 to $70 per month! I've recommended them to several friends. As far as I can tell the service quality and coverage is identical to Sprint. There is no data roaming, but I reviewed my Sprint bills prior to switching, and less than 1% of my data was roaming anyway so I could live without that in exchange for the savings.
When you call, a person answers the phone as well, which is nice.
I'm a ting fan, but they need to make me happy fast to me to remain one.

Do you regret getting a spark phone? I really hate the idea of losing simu voice and data. To those of you that used to multi tasking-do you miss that? Enough to want to switch back to a 2 band phone?
Sprints coverage map says I live in a perfect spark area, but they say that about 4g too and I get speeds of .55u, .65d 80p (last speed test). So I am nervous about trusting that-starting not to trust anything from Sprint. It just seems ridiculous to be the only us carrier not to support simu v/d. From what I have found voLte is not a priority. On Sprint community some reps are saying that they are "working on fixing spark to allow v/d" but is that like saying we are working to pay down the national debt (to quote another frustrated user). V/d on Wi-Fi is pointless to me- if I am at home I can use my house phone or my computer so I don't need both, but away from home is when I need simu v/d.
Not enough to switch back to my s4.

Ya it really sucks sprint made all new phones with sparks without even having it deployed all over the country wish these crappy sparks phone tech would have waited jnyell they could have figured out how to get volte working properly. The note4 easliy could have waited and not forced that crap sparks on us

Nope not at all. Very rarely do I find the non-simultaneous voice/data thing a problem. Besides this is a temporary thing until they get VoLTE going by 2016. Having spark and getting LTE in interior of buildings is well worth the trade-off.

The problem I see with that is-this is Sprint we are talking about here. More than likely they will have some backward 3rd world engineered system that gets delayed 2 years then when it gets half deployed they will realize they forgot to include an on switch or something, and end up scrapping the entire idea. I hate to plan on them doing anything when they say they will. Better off planning that it will always take them an entire contact period longer than what they expect.
I love the idea of better penetration I am just afraid of the wrong kind since we are dealing with Sprint lol.

That is a really old article that has no backing from Sprint. Especially since Sprint has said it is not planning to do volte. Not to mention that according to the article we should expect it now and not in 2016. Sorry but that is just speculation. Granted even if it was an official Sprint release I would not hold my breath. I would love to see it, but I highly doubt it will happen in the next 2 years.
Where is your link proving somebody still in charge has said that? Anybody from Softbank? I don't think so. I'm sure you can get a s3 for cheap still these days lol. Then you can rid yourself of your distrust from your best frienemy sprint lol. Not that serious to me. http://telecoms.com/304831/sprint-to-take-its-time-over-volte/

I am not trying to be argumentative here I am just trying to have realistic expectations. You are correct Sprint has not said that it will not ever do VoLte, but they have said it is not a priority, so it is more a matter of when. According to the second article “The reason you don’t see us rushing to VoLTE is because we’ve already got a strong HD Voice programme, and we’re rolling out a VoWifi product offering too. Over time, we’ll be evolving to VoLTE, but less aggressively because we’ve got a successful technology.” I take that to mean not anytime in the near future- maybe our 3-5year plan, no where do they say 2016 either.
They hopefully have figured out that this is much more of a big deal than they initially thought. Personally I take Sprints lack of talk about VoLTE to mean they are not worried about it much. They have to be worried about it but that does not mean that they will take action any time soon. Hey maybe they are planning a surprise gift for us and will boom one day have Volte ready for us overnight- but like I said I want to be realistic. Historically speaking Sprint has been the king of technical blunders.
It is not that I dis like Sprint or that I distrust them. I think that they are trying but they are such a organizational mess and never seem to actually have thought out their plans before they implement them. I have been with Sprint long enough to know that whatever the project or upgrade- it will inevitably take longer than they announce- without fail. I know enough to not plan my future on what Sprint says is coming- that will only lead to disappointment and anger.
Most people seem to complain about connection service or customer service. I love the voice coverage, data coverage and speeds have always been (and still are to be desired) they are much better than historically but in comparison the other networks do data much better. Customer service has never been a problem for me- phone reps are A+ in my books but then again I have always contacted employee care and not regular overseas CS. My CS experience w VZW was horrendous in comparison to Sprint. In store it is hit and miss- but since I rarely ever go to a store that is not an issue for me. They do need to work on consistency.
I already have a dual band s4 so I can do SVD, but I am trying to figure out if the idea of potentially "faster" data is worth losing SVD. Most phone calls end up with some SVD right now, so what I am going to try to do is resist doing it and see how pisd I get.
My biggest worry is GPS and SVD as well as streaming and calls. I know back in the day that I would stream hockey games and sometimes I would end that and have VMs piled up, other times using a hotspot my dad would get upset because he would get kicked off his connection when the phone rang. I never figured out why sometimes a call would interrupt the data connection and others it would not. It always seemed that if it was a nonstop stream - that the voice call would not interrupt the data call.
Heres the thing....when I first got the note 4 I was upset because I felt mislead due to the fact that nobody informed me of the no V/D situation but I can say that VOLTE is coming I work on cell towers building the infrastructure for sprint AT&T and Tmobile when I had my S2 I never really had true 4g. But then I got my s4 and it was worth the wait....be patient young grass hopper good things come to those who wait....and remember the sprint customer service will tell you.... if you really need voice and data at the same time just use wifi....I mean vome on its 2015 doesnt everyone have wifi enabled cars? I can tell you being I build sprints infrastructure that they are keeping it hush hush but we are building the 65 mhz. System right now and when we get that done they will roll out an update and flip the switch on VOLTE. Its classic sprint to not give any ETA. Hold tight VOLTE is on its way.....I six more months tops

Anyway to verify what your saying?
Glad to hear we might eventually have VoLTE. Even though at home and work I have WiFi and it's rare for me to be browsing the Web while on a call anyways. And just an FYI anyone experiencing alow data look up the classic tutorial about zeroing out sprints proxys. Using ##3283# the ones you zero out are under Multimedia and DSS. You need your MSL which you can get from Sprint. They tried to screw me around but the first rep I had was a moron and said that I was trying to SIM unlock my phone when really I wasn't and even I was that isn't the code I need. Just tell them you're having data issues and you want to reset your profile using ##786#(I think that's the one) and it's asking for your MSL and if the rep isn't a complete idiot they'll just give it to you. Zero out proxys, reboot, profit. Another FYI if you update PRL or profile after this mod it will put them back so you'll have to repeat. My speeds went up about 20%~ after on my note 4.

We have multiple bands and I believe our Note 4 has the one needed for VoLTE I just don't think it's used just yet. I could be wrong though I'm just taking a shot in the dark going off the fact that this phone supports sprint spark.

Wrong.
It has nothing to do with bands.
Don't get me wrong, I love this phone despite the bugs. Software bugs.
However I've a serious issue regarding the 3G/LTE module. 3G/LTE performances are not consistent at all.
Sometimes it goes well (chatting, sending pictures, even testing the speed with a speed test) but other times the connection "hangs" and I'm not able to do anything for seconds or minutes (download pictures from whatsapp, sending text with telegram or open web pages). After that time, the connection seems to work again. When this Is happening, phone is at full signal.
Please note that I never had these issues with all my previous phones (Nexux 5, Nexus 5X, OnePlus 3T) with the same SIM card and under the same conditions (places, time of the day). I've performed all the updates available (software version 4.5.4) and cleaned the cache many times using the recovery.
I'm asking your help: is there some debug feature I can activate in order to see what is happening and understand the problem? Many thanks.
What carrier do you have?
ATT had to load my phone into there system. I'm in Seattle, WA USA
After they did that LTE has been perfect!

Since I'm on ATT and I might get a OP5 I gotta ask how you went about this. Because I can see me telling customer service this and them not having the slightest clue what I'm talking about.

Basically you'd call in and ask to register your phone. It's not actually necessary but they do this anyway when you ask for a replacement sim. All they do is get your IMEI off your phone and add it to your account. Though with the 3 it already showed up during use. I don't think it matters much at all. Haven't had an issue with the 5 in Wisconsin, Minnesota or Nevada. I've simply plugged in the sim to this phone and went on my way since day 1.

Just to give you the big picture, I'll include everything that happened when I got my OP5 in terms of registering the phone on AT&T's network...
I got the OP5 and I came from a OPO, so I needed a new nano SIM card. I went to AT&T and they gave me a new sim but they were not able to get LTE signal at all. I was impatient and really didn't want to wait around so the rep and myself came up with excuses on why it wasn't working so I could get out of there. HSPA+ was the best I could get and it was about ~5Mbps up/down and I was happy with that for now.
I got home and decided to call in. Usual phone tree hell with AT&T began but I eventually got a level 2 Android technician. I will note the default values within the phone tree took me to iPhone support. Anyhow, the level two technician verified that my phone was not getting LTE. Furthermore, the device was not registered in the system at all. He gave me two options (which from the sounds of things, he wasn't supposed to do) 1.) I could just deal with the HSPA+ connection and it could take up to 5 days to fully load the phone but my phone would work perfect in terms of service/coverage/data rates (HSPA+) or 2.) He could load a Samsung S7 mock profile to my phone and it would more than likely work fine but don't hold him accountable for it. He said if it were him, he'd go for the S7 mock profile so I went with it.
Immediately I got an LTE signal and he had me reboot my phone. I've zero issues as he figured would happen and everything has been perfect. I got a confirmation text message from AT&T saying my phone will be loaded by July 6th and originally the technician told me around July 14th.
Anyhow, that was just my experience and a good experience at that. Of course, popping a sim out and back into a new phone would be ideal but a non-contracted AT&T device has to get loaded at some point and time I guess, right?
Cheers!

You mean, did I remember to turn it off and back on again? Yes, we tried that. Haha
It wasn't until the AT&T tech adding the profile to the network that it works. It was instant too.

Hello,
To whomever reads this, I'm hoping I'm in the correct area as I haven't found a means of procuring a solution myself thus far.
My issue started about a month ago with the OnePlus 6T, I work for a Fire Department and have a service provided by AT&T Called, FirstNet, they are working in tandem together and FirstNet is a Government owned non-profit organization that has a contract with AT&T in order to build the new infrastructure that is under way. My current issue is that I switched to FirstNet 2 months ago with my Samsung S7 Active, which was running Oreo 8.1.
When I did this the Representative told me that my phone wouldn't be fully compatible with FirstNet so I wouldn't receive the "Priority" Features until I upgraded as it didn't support band 14, which I was fine with.
I started looking for a new phone in which someone mentioned the OnePlus 6T, I looked into it and was immediately for it, essentially a Samsung S9 for half the price, brand new with a warranty? hard to beat that. So I looked into it and decided to purchase it. Thinking that because it was Band 14 capable (Which is what FirstNet runs off of) it would work with my provider just fine, especially since it was up to par with the Samsung S9. Upon receiving it, I tried to activate it on FirstNet but it wouldn't recognize the device. Surprise surprise, so I went through this runaround for 4 days with FirstNet, they sent me a new SIM card, I managed to activate it for the phone but now, I can't receive calls? wonderful. (It's actually been quite nice to not get phone calls for a while lol.)
I called FirstNet about it and they said because it's not a "FirstNet" ready phone, I wont get to use all of the features. Turns out this is because AT&T implements the code into their phones, the code/software known as IOC2/Evolved Packet Core/First Priority(TM) . Surprise surprise the only phones that have them are phones like Samsung, Apple, Moto, LG, Blackberry and Sonim which immediately set me off as because my phone isn't a mainstream popular device, it's unacceptable to use on FirstNet. When something as simple as code from a non-profit organization could've been distributed to other phone producers as well and yet.. it hasn't?
Priority on FirstNet means, if we are attacked by Terrorists, have some kind of Natural Disaster or even have a massive event that bogs down the network, It will set my phone calls to priority so that I can communicate with other emergency service personnel, with FirstNet we also do get this at a discounted rate as I'm sure this is part of the incentive to join and populate the network.
Because my phone is out of the loop I'm unable to receive calls, I can call out just fine, I can text, send photos, use the internet, all just fine, I just can't receive phone calls, which can be troubling for my employer especially if a large event occurs.
The OnePlus 6T supports Band 14 along with a whole other array of bands my Samsung S7 Active didn't, yet it's unable to communicate properly, setting the APN doesn't resolve anything and I've tried contacting both FirstNet and OnePlus, to which both of their replies are to see what the other company can do about it, FirstNet is stating I need to get an AT&T SIM card which will possibly add yet ANOTHER fee to my bill and take away the feature of Priority. OnePlus states they can't do anything about it but are elevating it to their Technician Team (I'm assuming that means Developers.).
Currently, my OnePlus 6T is running off of Oxygen OS 9.0.7, which is based on Oreo 8.1 (Which had IOC2/Evolved Packet Core/First Priority(TM) implemented into it already.) but yet it doesn't have the IOC2/Evolved Packet Core/First Priority(TM) code/software implemented? The way that FirstNet explained it is that the software acts like a kind of switch or filter, operating off of multiple APNs and switching to whichever one is allowing priority requests and since my phone doesn't have that software, I can't receive phone calls.
I'm sure that there's probably a multitude of phones that are experiencing this issue as FirstNet has a very small group of phones that are FirstNet capable. I'm not sure if there's other Emergency Service Personnel experiencing this problem thus far but if there's anyone who can provide a solution to this, not for just the OnePlus 6T but for every phone that's not on the FirstNet list, It would greatly help out, especially since a lot of us don't have much of an income.
To whoever takes the time to read this, I thank you for your time and hope that maybe some kind of resolve can come from this.
Yours truly,
A Concerned Fire Fighter.
It works, apparently
Hi. I hope this message finds you well, and maybe other OnePlus 6 series users who have or are considering FirstNet since they'll likely find this thread as their first hit from Google.
I'm a 6T user. I had my account switched to FirstNet yesterday from normal AT&T. In my case it had to be transitioned from prepaid, to postpaid, then to FirstNet, though I don't know if that's related.
Switch happened around 3pm, at around 6pm I noted I could not receive calls. Tested with multiple carriers. Phone didn't acknowledge the calls at all. Only indication was if a voicemail was left. At that time I found this thread.
I called FirstNet and they suggested because it was not an officially supported device it couldn't use the black Sim and suggested sending me a standard at&t Sim and losing some of the benefits. I said I'd follow up with my local guy first.
I contacted my FirstNet rep who agreed to meet me the next day. By noon we met and his first try my phone rang. All subsequent attempts have worked fine and it looks like I'm fully functional.
He indicated he made no changes and I don't believe FirstNet did either. I'm not sure of the reason but perhaps in some cases it takes longer for the carrier acknowledge sending calls to the correct Sim. Wish I knew more about cellular networks to provide something more useful.
Let me know if I can help OP or another user in some way. I'll subscribe to this thread.
I am a first responder as well with a 6T. Did you ever figure out any way to make this phone work with first net? I also considered Verizon First Responder.
Hello and thank you for the reply and information.
If I'm reading your response correctly, you currently have a working OnePlus 6/6T phone with Firstnet utilizing the black sim card? Are you getting full benefits of First net (priority access to data)? Does mms/sms and VoLTE work still?
I'm in the same boat as you, Im on ATT and qualify to move to Firstnet.
I had the same issue. Just go to att and have them give you a att sim card instead of using the firstnet sim card. The firstnet sim cards are not yet fully functional.

Yes, This is true although what this does is take you off of FirstNet, it only gives you the same rate without being throttled, you will not get Priority over text/voice when using the AT&T Sim card.
As far as them stating that the FirstNet sim cards are not yet fully functional is false.
At the first of this year, I woke up to find out my service from FirstNet on my phone completely shut off, after talking with FirstNet they stated that my phone wasn't guaranteed full coverage as it's not a FirstNet compatible phone. Now it wouldn't be so strange that my phone got cut off if it had been any other day, but the 1st of the year, which is typically when new policies or procedures are put into place it happens that my phone got cut from having service?.. that's awfully strange, and now my phone that even though I stuck with it, having 4 months of issues with not being able to receive calls now it suddenly just doesn't do anything? When before I could call out, text, sms, use my hotspot and my data.
With this I felt betrayed and immediately switched to Verizon because here's the kicker. When I asked them the things I questioned about their "Compatibility" after doing troubleshooting, I asked the representative to explain to me what the issue was as I stated over the phone. "I don't understand why my phone isn't compatible, from my understanding it has an operating system that uses all of the features and capabilities that Oreo 8.1 has and more, including the IOC2/FirstPriority TM Software and Security update, It's able to use all of the bands required and everything sounds like it's more of a software issue but I don't understand why my phone, that was MOSTLY working before now suddenly doesn't work at all?" To which he had replied, not in exact words because I don't remember the exact words. "It's not approved by our network".
There it is, the biggest lie I've heard so far, it's not that our phones are incompatible, they're not APPROVED by FirstNet. But what is? Samsung, Moto, LG, Blackberry, iPhone. Your more expensive mainstream phones. In my experience this has lead me to believe they have a contract with these phone vendors and have a "VIP List" with them essentially, for what gain, I'm unsure of exactly but it's the only thing that makes sense. If this phone has all the features and security updates just like any other phone.. why is it unapproved?
I was able to trick their tower a couple of times to receive calls but I really feel like it's on their side and they're purposefully doing this to people who don't have phones that aren't on their VIP List, as a previous customer of FirstNet I'm disgusted with this fact as it makes me feel as though I've been falsely advertised to as "Compatible" and "Approved" are two very very different words meaning entirely different things, had I known that was the case, I might have gotten a different phone to save hassle, but, here I am..
Well.. That's my update.
I'm sorry to say this guys, the only way to have a One+ 6T phone on FirstNet is without being able to use the very benefits the network was created for and using it on AT&Ts network instead, for unexplained reasoning on FirstNet's part. The fact that they mixed those words just makes me feel as though it was intended to deceive the consumers and I feel very betrayed by the company and will not invest another penny into it, I feel as consumers we have the right to know what we're signing up for and we have the right to be informed and over all, we have the right to use the equipment we purchase.
Thank you for your time.

That sounds very unfortunate, I'm sorry to hear about the ATT hassle. How are you liking Verizon on First Responder program? Are you having issues with it and do you have priority access to data like advertised or is it only during emergency?

Update, now on an AT&T SIM. This is a theme you should probably get used to.
Apparently the other day my phone was on HSPA when we tested, possible due to signal strength issues, which is why the calls came in no problem. I did a lot of troubleshooting by myself, with FirstNet support, and with a good amount of time spent by my local FirstNet specialist. Tried every setting I could think of including every preferred network type.
The issue in short...
On AT&T SIMs the phone starts on LTE/LTE for voice/data respectively. When a call comes in it switches to UMTS/HSPA in order to take the call over UMTS. The phone rings, and after the call it promptly returns to LTE.
On FirstNet SIMs the phone usually still switches to UMTS/HSPA when a call is incoming but the device won't actually ring. This behavior also occurred on another 8.0 android of mine. After the call it can take a protracted amount of time to switch back to LTE.
In my testing the number of calls that actually successfully switched from LTE to UMTS and then actually rang was about 2%.
More worrisome, the other person in my department who adopted FirstNet did so on an iPhone XS is FirstNet Ready. They still had issues and had to switch to an AT&T SIM, so it appears even officially supported devices are not a guarantee for full functionality. The Primary User Regional FirstNet rep was even indignant when I expressed concerns about the state of device support. FirstNet seems a bit of a half baked and not consumer choice friendly. I am also concerned about long term prospects given AT&T has something of a history only supporting certain features with first party versions of devices and not BYOD, such as VOLTE. Oh and to answer that question, no, VOLTE is not yet available on FirstNet for any device.
Ultimately is the AT&T SIMified FirstNet still worth considering? In my opinion yes. The pricing is on par with their prepaid plans, but unlike prepaid you're now put at the top of the priority list instead of the bottom and you won't be throttled. Yes, you still get prioritization with the AT&T SIM over other commercial traffic, though you won't ever trump FirstNet users and all your traffic will be handled by the commercial core, you don't touch the FirstNet core or band 14.
It is true you do not want to exceed 22GB for 3 months in a row. Our regional rep said you can get the "data-only devices" plan which he claims has no cap penalty, but my reading of the official terms and conditions seems to refute that.
Verizon is the other main option though last time we saw their pricing strategy it was more expensive and I don't recall any benefits over FirstNet other than possible coverage benefits. Then again slapping a Verizon SIM in your OnePlus will actually give you VOLTE2 without any of AT&T's shenanigans. Bonus Weirdness: When calling FirstNet's support line, if I called while my FirstNet SIM was in an iPhone it just told me they weren't open. If I called with my OnePlus it let me through. WTF.
So my take away is I'd really like FirstNet to make an earnest effort to make device support at least on par with the commercial network. I personally would not feel comfortable putting a FirstNet sim in anything other than a strict data usage device given the compatibility issues, and their device strategy gives me long term concerns. That said if AT&T has good coverage in your area, I'd at least suggest looking into the FirstNet plan with an AT&T SIM since it's still arguably a better deal than prepaid and consumer postpaid.
When it comes to agency paid plans though the story, at least from we're being told, changes a lot. Our Verizon rep says their non-consumer public safety lines are going to have no caps. I can find no such reference in FirstNet's terms. Our Battalion units on their current plans are throttled after 22GB and they still manage to use 50+GB. There's no way they could be put on FirstNet.
A few more fun things to add...
On my AT&T sim of course wifi calling and VoLTE aren't enabled because F you and your BYOD. Call FirstNet support and ask them to turn it on and you get stonewalled. Give them an iPhone IMEI and they turn it on right away. Thanks for being pro consumer AT&T. Also when you do this you need to call FirstNet support and ask for tech support. If your local rep tries it apparently doesn't take.
Another neat thing for FirstNet customers to try. Log into your FirstNet admin console, go to Manage Services and Billing, click Upgrade a device and then just put another person's phone number in who you think uses FirstNet, they don't have to be related to your account at all. Boom, you get to see their name, type of device, and their upgrade cycle information. Not too good for a supposedly more secure environment.
So the takeway today is FirstNet needs to look into account information access rights since they're clearly askew, and if they ever add VoLTE to FirstNet (or fix the black sim card configuration) just call in and give them an iPhone IMEI and you might be good to go with your OnePlus.
