Att 4g or 3g - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there anyway to run the mytouch 4g on att without it only being on edge network?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

Pretty sure thats a no since the radios are built for different frequencies.

Unfortunately no, the radio in the Mytouch 4G only supports At&t's Edge Network.

probably not
iphone supports only EDGE on t-mobile network, so I assume the hardware designed for phones are only available to the network they were originally made for

if you want to run a MT4G on att go buy a desire HD. same unit but the radio's work on ATTs 3g network. thats basically the only way.

thats pretty much true there unless the phone is running quadband HSDPA. which is very rare nowadays. tmobile just kinda sucks cause they are running a rare HSDPA band while ATT runs a more mainstream. i buy phones from taiwan (HTC headquarters) for my family to use on ATT and their 3G is flawless.

Could you elaborate more on the Taiwan connection? I'm using this device now but would rather go back to the mt4g. Yet considering the match level of chess these companies are playing I need a Bobby Fischer type of device, of which seems to not be available in the YouEss
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App

It's quite simple. all the phones from Taiwan use the same 3g signal as att here for their smartphones. So you can buy phones from there and they will work perfectly fine on att networks here.

AT&T 850 MHz 3G

Can the vibrant pick up the AT&T 850 MHz 3G network? Is there any way to turn on this feature?

I can get 3G in other areas, but not here, which leads me to believe it's just a 850 MHz band.
I can take out the SIM and put it in an iPhone and it picks up 3G just fine, whereas the vibrant is stuck on edge. It's frustrating to keep having to reboot the phone to pop out the SIM

Its got to be unlocked doesn't it to work on att 3g network don't it?
Here we go again...
Here we go again. If you are referring to the T-Mobile USA Vibrant, it does not have support for 850Mhz UMTS bands. Period. The FCC says so. That is pretty definitive as far as I am concerned. It does not matter what some piece of software shows you. The hardware is not capable as it sits in the T-Mobile USA Vibrant. Search the FCC database for the Vibrant. GSM 850Mhz ≠ UMTS 850Mhz.
Pretty sure it's just 1900MHz. The FCC documents would have included the 850MHz band if it was really there.
Edit: Lol, yeah what he said.

Thanks for clearing it up now comes the dilemma of deciding whether to use the vibrant or an iPhone that uses the 3G speeds...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Tmobile Vibrant does have capability to operate on ATT 3G network.
I could get it working with iphone sim card.
Specification also includes ATT frequencies.
Att is using two frequencies for 3G.
If it don't run on 3g then why does my vibrant have a 3g data icon and is blazing fast on it?

Precisely.
The Vibrant does not have 850mhz 3g support. Only AWS(1700)/PCS(1900)/IMT(2100) 3g support.

I'm not sure what this is about. Maybe it's just wishful thinking run amok...seems like most of these people either want to switch to AT&T or bought the phone intending to use it on AT&T, have since found out that it won't work in their area, and are refusing to ultimately admit to themselves that it won't work.
People like to think to themselves, "Well, maybe the FCC screwed up and I DO have a pentaband (or quadband?) 3G phone." The slightest bit of uncertainty encourages such thoughts...there are threads with jokers enabling the fake 850MHz menu selection and exclaiming, "OMG, I have AT&T 3G on 850MHz" when they already had it on 1900MHz. People who bother googling the question ahead of time will no doubt find some older, confusing threads.(Albeit they will hopefully find more and more threads with people like us saying "No, it's not in the FCC docs," etc.)
We should have a sticky or something about this lol.
Yes, I googled it and found conflicting reports which is why I came here to clear it up.
Thanks again

Ditto. They can cut you off if you go over a certain amount (most people say around 2-3GB a month), but so far I've used around that amount and been good. I know some people who have gone way over (5GB) and been fine too. If you use them, don't fill in the proxy fields in the APN, just the MMS proxy stuff. If you stream constantly, this service is not for you. However for anything else it's great. And you get real AT&T speeds (I've personally gotten up to 5 Mbps in some areas).

Yup ive used 2gb and been fine, and have also heard of people going over 5gb and been fine. But id say 2gb would be the safe zone, which is probably plenty for most. Just use wifi whenever you can
my sim will be coming soon and since im gonna be using a pre 2 i dont think data limits are anything to worry about. i just want stable reliable signal where I can text and get calls reliably from a certain area sprint doesnt cut it but ATT does. my question is i am a part time promotor for clubs so i send out a crap load of texts (on sprint i saw my amount and it was around 22000 lol)
if i decide to make this my main phone i will be consuming that much.....phone calls arent an issue i mainly talk only to my gf for long periods of time at night lol
will i be kicked off for this usage?

Yes, it does. GSM SIMs and (for example) the SIMs used by Verizon (I don't, know if, Sprint has switched to a SIM based system for their up and coming LTE network) would not be compatible. You CANNOT USE A device like the Sensation on a CDMA network, period.

Sprint uses "integrated SIMs" for their LTE phones, which basically means they still use the same MEID/ESN system. Identical to the old 3G/WiMax system. And yes, you're correct. You can't use a GSM phone on a CDMA network period. You can, however take a hybrid GSM/CDMA phone (like a Droid 2 Global) and get it to work on GSM networks by hacking the radio not to ignore domestic networks like AT&T and T-Mobile.

HSPA+ on GT-N7000. T-Mobile refarming?

It may be a miracle. I was using the International Samsung Galaxy Note and was only receiving edge on T-Mobile. I learned why this was and hoped it would change. About three nights ago exactly I was trying to use my data which was edge which did not work at all. I was not sure why. Then the following night I was at a dinner party in Cougar Mountain Drive which is in the Bellevue area. All of a sudden I turned on my data and guess what I saw. A big H+ staring me back in the face. I was so overjoyed I could not even begin to explain. But alas, I could not longer see the H+ when I returned home in the Seattle Area. Is T-Mobile finally refarming? We can all hope can't we? What do you guys think?

That's awesome advice....not. Are you trying to get him to brick his phone?
This is an N7000.
T-Mobile has been working on standing up the 1900 frequency, which is the same band AT&T uses, and the band included in all international phones. They have been using AWS which is the 1700 band. This is why all new-ish T-mobile phones are pentaband. You must have been in an area that they already converted over. It is supposed to be complete sometime in 2013.
I have a similar story. While visiting in Concord, CA. Downtown where the Old Spaghetti Factory is: I was able to get HSPA+ on my Infuse i997. Looking forward to the refarm taking place all over the usual spots.

I understand that T-mobile has re-farmed 1900 MHz for 3G service in the Boston, MA area.
Is this service available to T-Mobile pre-paid PAYG customers? On the $3/day plan?
Is there any requirement for a GBA SIM? Or any newer SIM?
Are there any specialized APN settings?
Any specialized phone settings? "Force" WCDMA 1900 MHz only from the Service Menu?
I have an international un-locked Samsung Galaxy S II (I9100), and a 7 year old T-Mobile pre-paid SIM.
I have been able to use GSM data (2G: GPRS/EDGE) as recently as July, 2012.
My visits are brief so I use the $2/day plan but would like to be able to use 3G.
current reports,
no specific deals with TMO regarding network sharing,
i'd doubt AT&T will lend the networks without a fair price

Its not a troll, I'm not so smart in this type of technology. In my mind it was very simple WCDMA is Docomo, which goes way ahead of regular CDMA, and Qualcomm made an support from WCDMA to CDMA2000, thats why I cant understand why Verizon CDMA don't want to support it.
