Poor video recording :( - Xperia Arc General

I really love the phone and especially its photo capabilities.
Yet the video lags while recording are really bad.
Here a random unedited testvideo
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NbXSOsVaE0
At the end theres no sound which probably results from the freezing where no sound is recorded.
Therefore the video is longer than the recorded sound.
I just checked and firmware is up to date, battery was full & taskkiller emptied RAM before recording.
Hope there is a fix incoming

Oh Ok i don't make videos, so i m not sure... Just tested video capturing 2 minurtes after turn off image stabilizor & it was fine.. But i had all other settings default

there is a known bug in the video recording of the arc, check some other threads on here. It has been reported to S.E so hopefully they will release a patch to solve the problem.

Is the sound on playback alot better than the X10? Because the X10 sounds pretty damn bad! Like im in a tin can.

I took a test video and it looks and sounds just fine to me. Mind you, I don't have a billion apps running in the background either.
P.S. The stabilization is ON

Well, with stabilization on you get distortion as the frame moves, but it's hardly noticeable. Beats a jerky video.

It destroys the image with to much compression. Usually ends up with a more blurry pic.
But im speaking from the Xperia X10, not the Arc. But I could only assume its the same as of now.

ive just replaced the memory card on my arc to a 16gb kingston class 4.....seems marginally better with regards to video stutter...need to run a few more tests first though.

Yeah that a **** video dude..I ve got the same problem..The video lags a lot..I dont know whether there is a solution..hopefully a 3rd party app??

My mum told me to record my little brother's rehearsal for the regional artistic cycling tournament (he got silver btw ) cuz she was at work .The vid lagged so badly, also with the 5 sec freezing and some random 1 sec freezing. The whole performance is only about 10 min. I tried with and without image stabilization and some other settings as I was desperate to get it recording. In the end I asked my brother to do it again and used the milestone(Droid) from the coach to record it.
I have the fragments of the recording on my arc if anyones interested
Not that I care much of the performance as its his first year, but my mum was angry and laughing at my phone.
Bottom line: Awesome cam but useless videorecording.

Sony should come up with something..Video recording is ****.. :S

Check the codec you recorded with; if it was h.264 you can only capture @480p
Not looking to good....maybe check the code try again.... oh well maybe the devs will make better.
Yeah check your settings. If that was 720p I don't see much different. Hopefully your settings weren't right.

The audio is ALOT better on the vid.
All I can say is, 24fps my ASS! *sigh*
Is there a way to just disable the video camera completely, because with that type of quality, if I ever did record something by accident, I'd have to kill myself.
On a "meh" note, the h.264 800x480 recording is very smooth and looks pretty good.
Not 720p, which still is pretty much what it was before, but at least it's something.
Really guys? I think it looks pretty decent. It's still no iPhone 4, but when he gets outside it definitely looks a bit smoother than it did before, and detail is a bit better as well. I remember before it would look like the camera had trouble even recording in 720 and would hiccup every few seconds. It may only be 24fps, but at least it's a CONSISTENT 24fps. don't forget every movie you've ever seen was filmed at 24fps... And yea, the indoor portion kinda sucked but that's due to the crap sensor they put in the evo.
while not recording the actual image on the screen looks a little smoother, but to my eyes it seems when you record its actually worst then before
audio is sooooooooooooooooooooo much better

What are you talking about? It's using an 8 megapixel version of the EXACT same sensor they used in the iPhone 4 by the SAME manufacturer, and unlike most camera sensors in smartphones today, it's actually backlit. Please stop blaming the hardware before recognizing the real root of the problem.

improvements to video with Froyo

What exactly did HTC fix or improve in video recording? Running stock 2.1 every 5 seconds i had sound problems where it would sort of pause for about one second and now on a different evo with 2.2 same problem. Anyone else experienced this?
This is only when recording with 720p.

I tempered my expectations because I knew it was a phone, but when two of your selling points are 8mp camera and 720p recording they should be decent.
I have had good luck using the camera, and I gotten great shots (especially considering it is a phone) But the stock camcorder was HORRIBLE, and it makes 720p fans cry!

This genius took the plastic off in the store.
This genius is also a professional photographer and knows the limitations of cameras and lenses so I expected little from a cell phone, but I experienced less than I expected.
The video is not 720p, that is a downright lie.
The 8mp camera, yes it is 8mp, but it is poor quality.
I run CM6 and it has a slightly better take on the cam and camcorder.
Even after multiple attempts to adjust the media_profiles.xml and the different configuration files there is little we can get from it. There is an entire thread about this is 28 pages long.

Is 720P Important to You?

Hey guys, quick question for nexus one users. Do you guys consider taking 720p video important? I know you could do the 720p hack, but the quality is so-so with alot of stuttering. Do you guys find vid recording a selling point or just a perk thats not really necessary.

I'd trade 720p for better quality pictures, so no, it's not that important to me, but nice to have nevertheless.
forgot to put in the reason why im asking.
i love the vanilla UI and i LOVE (you have no idea) the Nexus One styling. This is the phone i wanted for a really long time. But the thing is, the nexus one is lacking in apps (one in particular that i play everyday, bejewled blitz) and its lacking in the HD recording department (and touch to focus). Im trying to decide if those two things are worth going back to the iphone. The ironic thing is, i dont even take videos on the iphone. i think its the fact that its nice to have.
being stuck in the middle blows.
CM6 video has touch to focus and continuous auto-focus in video.

It is not as good as the iPhone 4's but the Nexus One is an older, less powerful phone. The video quality is adequate.

Resolution 1920x1080, anti-shake on, video quality superfine, the rest were set to default.
I can record and play back in 1080 on the phone, but I cant seem to play back the files on the computer without the image breaking up into a blocky mess. I'm using VLC to play them. Has anybody else come across this issue? 720 is fine. I thought it was the sd card, but even recording to the phone gets the same issue. Weird.
Well,
I see most annoying problem from SGS2 known as Video Stutter or frame drop issue has migrated to SGS3: http://mobile-review.com/review/imag...hoto/video.mp4
"Frame drop issue" printscreen from mediafire (min:13, max:39), but should be within range of 26-35.
PS: Exchanged mine SGS2 6 times, until got proper one camera module.
Galaxy Nexus records way better 1080p.

What a shame! you are totally corrrect, my Z2 is exactly the same, I took some amazingly clear video in a club the other night, the camera captured the scene in low light so well shockingly good video BUT when I listened the next day the sound is totally distorted ruining the videos!
I downloaded a Sound meter app on my Z2 and the wifes Galaxy S5, side by side they both give completely different DB reading, The sony is WAY too high! if you make a sound the sound meter jumps right up, where are the Galazy S5 is more stable. Unfortunately i cant find any setting in the phone to change the microphone sensitivity. so the problem is a serious problem that we are stuck with! SUCKS!!
SONY really need to fix this with an update!
Agree but look at this video

Yes you are right this add on microphone is a good option for planned recordings! But what if you are just out and about with just your phone, and want to video something, live singing, a party, disco. The sony Z2 can take awesome video but if its a loud environment or with a lot of BASS the sound will come through on the video completely distorted and impossible to listen. Sony need to do an update ASAP.
Here is a sample of the distorted audio. (shame, the video quality came out really nice the DJ was Plastic Funk live in Pattaya Thailand)

It isn't for the faint of heart and requires the bootloader to be unlocked, if you search the forum you will find the doomkernel thread. You might want to ask people in that thread for more help or suggestions.
