Mobicity.co.nz Spec confirmation/shipping dates - Galaxy S II General

I have had an SGS2 on pre-order since March 18th and have just received this update:
Probably the hottest topic at MobiCity over the past two months has been what the actual specifications of the Samsung i9100 Galaxy SII will be upon launch. There has been speculation primarily about the display type, 3G frequency set (NextG/XT or not), processor type and clock speed. Finally our supplier has now been able to confirm most of the information for us. Therefore we can reveal the following details;
Release date: First batch ships to us May 3rd. Allow extra time for shipping to us and then onto the end user.
Stock source: UK
Display: SAMOLED Plus
3G Frequency set: 850 (NextG/XT/US 3G) / 900 (Optus/Vodafone Regional) / 1900 / 2100 (Telstra 3G/Three/Vodafone/Optus Metro)
Processor: Dual Core Exynos
What has not been revealed is whether the bump in processor clock speed from 1 to 1.2 GHz is correct, however given what we have seen so far we believe this is highly likely. We'll announce more on this once we receive more concrete information.
https://www.mobicity.com.au/index.php/blog/
Edit: Link added.

Thanks for the info. Seems like the May 3rd date is pretty settled.
People are getting mad that it keeps getting pushed back, but really, were you thinking it would come out on that rumored 'March 5th' release date, so soon after MWC? No, it won't. Sorry, but that's definitely too soon.
It was no surprise to assume this as a summer phone, and honestly we complain about the date being pushed back, but we'll still get it eventually, so hold tight.
Anyways, if May 3rd is right, I wonder what that means for the US. I assume US is on that list of high priority markets, right? Gotta be somewhere in the near future. Anyways, I can wait till June, that's when I get my upgrade.
Overall that's just my thoughts.

Hopefully it will be may 3rd ...
Thnaks for info

Possible U.S. launch date June 29th, according to IntoMobile

Just found this little tidbit while reading some info about this phone. It looks like IntoMobile received an invite to a Samsung launch party for an unannounced device. Guess we'll find out in a few weeks.
Can't post link since I'm new...doh
But is this for Tmobile or is it for all the U.S. carriers? I don't want to wait for like 3 months of Tmobile exclusivity until it comes to at&t.
Yea, I wish they would hurry up and announce a carrier. Hopefully it will come out to all 4 carriers so that nobody will be left out.
I've pasted the info from IntoMobile below:
"There are a lot of rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S launch date floating around the interwebs, but we’ve just received something that might point to a more reliable launch window for Samsung’s upcoming flagship Android phone. We’ve just been asked to save June 29th on our calendars for some mysterious Samsung launch party in New York City. Details are slim (well, none) at this point, but the invite to the smartphone maker’s launch event gets our speculative juices flowing.
The invite informs us that “Samsung Mobile brings you the next generation in Android phones.” Now, if you’ve been keeping up with Galaxy S rumors at all, you’ll know that this particular smartphone boasts a Super AMOLED display, the Hummingbird graphical powerhouse GPU, and is powered by the Android 2.1 OS. All that adds up to what is very likely considered by the South Korean mobile phone giant to be their next generation of Android phones.
Other rumors have the Galaxy S hitting T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) on July 21st. There’s also the possibility that the handset will hit AT&T (NYSE: T) later this year. We could see the handset being launched for one of these (or both) carriers on June 29th, but that’s just speculation. We really have no idea what this launch party is for, but we’d wager that it has something to do with the Galaxy."
I"m not sure I understand why it is so important to keep it all secret. While they go on and on not telling us anything, some folks will get tired of waiting and buy something else. I guess that's why I'm not in marketing...because some things just don't make sense to me.
Agreed. I just want the device as soon as possible. I don't know if it's only getting limited release because of quantity limitations or what, but they know they're going to sell a ton here in the US, why not just get it here?
June 29th?! Nice, that is same date they unveiled the SGS for US carriers! Here is hoping for another mid-july release!

I think you will find that could be what this thread was about, have a look at the dates posted. You're posting in a 11 month old thread.

Production Cycles

Does anyone know how production cycles (either for Nexus S or in general) work? In other words, what's considered the second batch/wave of Nexus S being shipped to Best Buy? How early do kinks/issues get hammered out in the production cycle (I guess this depends on how closely Samsung is getting feedback too)? If one were to buy a Nexus S a month from its release date (say mid January 2011, for example's sake), would they be getting a different unit, presumably better, with the kinks/reported issues worked out? How long/many months would it be, give or take, before we can expect a Nexus S with early reported issues addressed?
I'm just trying to understand the relationship between production and markets a little more.
I don't think the second batch would be a better unit per say. If they made a ton right now, then Samsung can slowly manufacture new ones while waiting to hear if there were any major defects, but if they are being sold out in Best Buy stores. I can see the second batch not having any fixes if there were any that needed to be applied. Actually, they could be in production right now. Perhaps by the third or fourth wave, there would be fixes, if any.
According to this Vibrant user, he got a better gps antenna (or something) with the October manufacture ship date. I believe there was also a July and September ship dates for the Vibrant, but don't quote me on that. I know July is fact, but not sure about September.
Just my guess.
I see, thanks. Then I guess there's no real difference getting this phone from now and January.

AT&T Claims HUSPA in April!

From AT&T's facebook page today.
Henry L Averette III Did that day one... Still waiting on the FULL HUSPA+ though.
-----------
AT&T ‎@Henry L Averette III, we're expecting the software updates for your new Atrix in April, so you should'nt be waiting too much longer! With the new update and the continued deployment of expanded backhaul, the Atrix and other 4G devices will contiue to get faster. Thanks for your feedback!
---------------------------------------------------
I would not expect this to be released near the end of May as some other people have guessed at. It is the 22nd today when this was posted and there remains not much left in this month, so why not say May if they expected any more delays?
At least we have something to look forward, though its no bootloader
They made an announcement that it will get done by April. If they don't get it done by the end of April, then I am assuming that there will be a lot more filing with the BBB.
I'm sure that AT&T has good reasons for not releasing the update yet because as we know there has been a boom of smartphones in the past couple years and a big spike in data usage respectively. So I don't expect to get HSUPA enabled just yet, though it would be nice.
What I DO expect is that with the money that they have they should be working a lot harder on implementing new technology to the towers in service because that is the backbone of their business.
Curious why this warrants a new thread when it could have easily been posted in am existing "update is coming on xx" thread.

Well, as the ones that I read before seemed more along the lines of people disagreeing with each other and alot of personal thought, I figured coming from a different source that this would warrant a new thread
And Djordjije I agree completely with you. It is pretty sad that they even advertise it as a 4G phone (which is a selling point for many people) and dont even implement that technology out of the box. I am friends with quite a few national radio installers for the larger companies (AT&T being one of them) and they told me that AT&T paid their company to install HUSPA capable radios, but when I spoke to AT&T about when the service would be available in my area (Here in Montana) they told me that I should expect it sometime in 2013 ... wth? Hasn't anyone seen the movie 2012? I want some 4G speeds before yellowstone blows me up lol.

Release date in the U.S

It seems like there are threads on release dates for many countries except the U.S! So this thread is for people with any information on the release date in the states. =)
I hear ya, I'm am so ready to buy this phone... now if t-mobile usa would speed up the process a bit I could quit driving my wife crazy surfing for anything related to the GS2
What we need to do is to create an online group for wives of phone addict xda members who can't stop researching new devices and roms. Then, they'll spend all day on that forum and won't notice we're ignoring them. My wife just doesn't understand that I NEED this phone on T-Mobile.
I hope you guys get it soon... just like us up north here in canada... but as for tmob getting it... the current international version doesn't have AWS support so that may hold it up a tad for them... just like WIND here... hope that doesn't burst a bubble... and if you already knew that... sorry!
This guy will do T-Mobile 3G, cough cough, 4G? It's a plus device?
It's looking likely that T Mobile USA won't release the SGS2 until sometime in July. With the Sensation release looking likely for June 8th, they need time to maximize its sales before releasing another high end phone. I just don't know if I can wait. I might jump on the G2x or the Sensation.
I may have missed it, but is AT&T going to be getting this phone?
I keep hearing about tmobile but no AT&T talk. If not then i am going to be very very sad.
to my knowledge AT&T's bands are supported on the international version and as a result if carriers are smart and release the actual model and don't demand variants then you should be in the clear

That's really ****ty if they hold it off till July considering the rest of the world get's it in about a week or two.
I'm really hoping that information about its release date will come soon. If US carriers don't get it soon, I'm going to have to buy the international version.

Indeed. I'm ready for one, NOW, to use with T-Mobile. Group buy, perhaps?
It's not unlikely that all major US carriers (and some minor ones) will get variants of the SGS2, though the timing is very uncertain (there have been NO credible stories about precise targets, with the only semi-official statement indicating that Fall is most likely for its first appearance).

I'm almost positive the SGSII will be available on all carriers it's just a matter of timing on the release just like it's predecessor =).
Well, a while ago from that leaked verizon "phone schedule" the SG SII was slated for sometimes in May. Now how long into may or if it gets released is the question. Right now I'm looking to upgrade to a smartphone and grandfather in.
So far Galaxy S 2 is looking pretty sweet and I want it

wasn't that a 1st of April joke/hoax?
AT&T Infuse announced in Jan 2011 is about to be released sometime in MAY, and it is an AT&T exclusive (does not need to stand out by definition).
With the SGS2, the 4 majors would want to customize the phone to stand out from the others, so I would expect even longer delay between the announcement (March) and release.
And now we hear Sammy has SGS3 for the Fall.

Well so far, all the phones on that list have been released at about the right time :O, so not really sure if it's april fools joke. The list had specific dates for all the other phones except for instance bionic/galaxy s 2, where it said "May" for their releases.
I'm hoping for the may release so I can get grandfathered in with the Galaxy s 2 !!!!!! *crosses fingers**
I am starting to feel like the UK will have the SGS3 before the SGS2 will even be available in the US lol

and that is exactly why I created that thread about SGS3, but people are just laughing there
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049529
Since SGS2 may not even penetrate the market by the Fall of 2011, it is possible the US carriers will just skip SGS2 and go straight for SGS3.
I hope not because then we won't get the SGS2 this fall and will have to wait until February 2012 before the US carriers get around to destroying the device with useless and unwanted carrier changes and blotware and finally release the GS3 to NA that came out in the UK in September lol
I wish Samsung, HTC, Motorola and the other major players would just stand up to the US carriers and say "This device hits the market internationally in May you have until then to do what ever modifications you feel necessary and send the device to us to verify it meets our QA to ensure they don't cut corners to meet the deadline. If you don't have your modifications done by that time you have to release the device the way it was intended free of carrier modifications. If you don't comply with this then you won't get a flagship device that is required to meet your sales goal for the quarter and compete with other carriers that meet these requirements and have our flagship devices available"
How hard would that be, the carriers HAVE to have the newest flagship devices to complete in the high end market if the device manufactures would start throwing their weight around and refuse to release devices to the US market the carriers would have no choice but to back down. Sure that would mean an initial delay in the US for some devices while the carriers cry about not getting their way but eventually they would have no choice but to give in and then then the NA market not only gets all of our future devices in a reasonable time frame they aren't all ruined by the carriers petty attempt to stand out from each other. I don't know about anyone else but personally I would be willing to not have the SGS2 available if it meant I got the SGS3 when it was released in the UK free of carrier modifications and bloatware and that is ultimatly what this would come down to. The NA market misses a generation of top end devices but in return starting with the generation after that we don't have any more of this BS. I can suffer a little in the short term for a worth while long term reward. Plus I would bet money the smaller carriers who are trying to take a chunk out of the big guys market would love the chance to pick up flagship devices that the 3 major carriers missed out on because they wouldn't leave the device alone and just release it so it isn't like the devices would be totally unavailable you could still always get it from say Boost or T-Mobile who are more worried about customer satisfaction than adding bloatware and acting like a petty child who has to try and make his new toy "better" than the other kids or buy the international version and add it to a supported US network like many are doing with the SGS2

Where is it?!

Seriously, it's releasing in 2 days and no pricing or availability details??
This is ridiculous.
Has a company ever announced a product and simply never released it?
Others are noticing this too:

Yes, but Sept 25 for over 100 countries. If there was such a massive launch scheduled within 2 days, don’t you think we’d hear something about it? Pricing, which European stores were going to carry it, unboxing videos, hands-on reviews with retail units, etc.
But nothing!
So this makes me think that those countries aren’t getting it soon. And if they are delayed, then you better believe we will be, too.
This blows.
In italy nobody have notice about the new Note...
I did a quick search for Samsung's IFA 2013 announcement's and The Verge noted the GN10.1 2014 Edition was slated for an October release with no specific date provided. Just figures.

I have seen no official release date from Samsung for anywhere. I have seen speculation all over the place including Sept 24, Sept 25 and Oct 4. Nut all of those dates have come from blogs and rss news, nothing official.
Sent from my Note 10.1 via tapatalk.
According to this article it won't be available in Canada until November.
http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/122...5-great-items-to-its-galaxy-family-of-devices
According to Samsung Switzerland (on Facebook) we'll be getting it 'mid-october', the LTE version 'end of october'.
For a device that's supposed to be available in three weeks, I find this lack of information very strange.
I don't get why so many tech companies don't get this. This is why Apple is as successful as it is, they don't pull this kind of thing.

Galaxy Note 3 (deservedly) Galaxy Gear (not so deservedly) is taking all the attention it appears. However, they could throw us a bone here and there. I know that they don't expect a lot of sales but still, as I said in another thread, if you want to gain loyal customers, you don't pull this kind of stuff.
Pull what kind of stuff?
They showed a upcoming product, never announced a release date, and have yet to do so (likely because they don't have one yet). I'm not sure what the alternative is other than to just make one up and then miss it?
Personally I'd rather them wait to announce anything until it's a sure bet and I respect them for that.
Nothing pisses me off more than having a release date and it gets missed or there is a shortage.
I really don't understand the current hysteria lol...

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457074

That these variants will be released as rumored before end of September early October. ( which seems promising for Middle east, Africa & European countries )
The LTE 4G version seems to be released on a later stage - probably November. ( For North America )

I agree, a release date that is announced but then not honored is also very annoying.
What I mean is that they announce a device, with some kind of release date (at least an approximate one; at least in some areas) but yet there is very little information (for example the price) out there fore interested customers.
In my opinion, if you announce a device you need to be able to present a release schedule and reccommended retail pricing. Otherwise people are going to get excited about your device at the announcement but then get frustrated during the wait of indeterminate length.
This is the example that I experienced: The Note is announced at the end of august. Weeks later, online stores (where I live) still didn't have it in their catalogue and asking customer support, they said they had no info about it, be it price, release date or even if they will have it, because they were not informed by samsung. When the new iPhones were announced the stores had them in their catalogues on the same day, pricing, release date and all. Today you can buy the new iPhones, which were announced two weeks after the Note, of which there is still no sight.
From a marketing point of view it just doesn't make sense to me. You spend a lot of money and effort announcing your device, trying to get people excited over it. But because people can not act on their excitement (for a long time) all that energy just dissipates, instead of it going into pre-orders/sales.
