So SDCARd = Custom Roms? - Xoom General

I've been debating on the transformer or the Xoom....
now that the Xoom has SD access, will custom roms be next? Or is something still missing?

Yes, AFAIK still HC missing source code, although bits are starting to come out.

ugh I guess ill keep waiting...

Why wait once source gets released I'm sure the xoom will be the more worked on device

Who knows, alot of people were saying they were returning their Xooms

And a lot aren't

But the Transformer needs the source code as much as the Xoom does... so... it depends which one sells more and the Xoom has a head start.

Most if not all of the people returning the Xoom for a Transformer are doing so because of such minor issues, which will be resolved soon anyway. Getting the Transformer for the keyboard dock is stupid IMO. Congrats, you just bought a very expensive netbook.

Or you know.. Because it has a significantly better screen. Oh and wait, it's cheaper than the Xoom with a keyboard! Even if you don't use the keyboard, you still have it. Unless I'm mistaken and it doesn't come with the keyboard, because I have been not caring about the thing at all lol.

Mainly the SD card not working. But also things like the UI lags, there aren't enough apps, its heavy (I know, not fixable). Crap like that.
And the keyboard for the Transformer is $150 I believe.

People choose Transformer because it has better IPS screen and cheaper, and that's important.

Hmm. I'm not trying to be dense here but for me at least, the IPS screen is not better. Going by the iPad screen anyway, for reading it's not that great, and that's a major part of what I'll be doing with the Xoom.

This is simply a lie coming from someone who owned both and now only Xoom. I pad screen is better at everything. Its brighter AND crisper so how can't u read?

Well, no it's not a lie. Thanks for calling me a liar though.
I've read on the iPad and it was OK but not brilliant, the letters just don't "pop" like they do in a book or ereader. I haven't seen a Xoom yet but I've been led to believe by reviews that it's better for reading than the iPad.

My opinion: the ipad is too bright, even when its toned down. Especially if your in bed at night try to not wake up the person next to you or land air planes on your bed.

Apple markets the iPad as this magical, cute, family friendly device while the Xoom is marketed as this totally bad ass, rugged machine that can turn into a spaceship if you try to grab it.

What's even more funny is the people who will come to xda just to complain because they have nothing better to do.
The xoom is only $70 more than a comparable ipad2 while having better hardware and arguably a better base OS experience.

A device is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
However, for $70 more than the equivelant model iPad I'm happy for the fact my Xoom eventually will have Flash and 4G.

Also, to upgrade the ipad to 64gb, it's another $100 plus tax. To upgrade a xoom, it's the price of a 32gb micro SD and possibly missing that second part. Not to mention you can upgrade it on your own after you buy it. You're not forced to decide before you buy it.

Well if those are my only options then I would choose the xoom but I'm biased. I own one. I think the Asus might be a good buy but seems doomed to fail with low stock. If you can possibly wait 2 months then you'll have more honeycomb tablet options. Google is rumoured to have a nexus tablet in the works, possibly from Toshiba and could be THE tablet!! But in the meantime, I'm absolutely loving my xoom.

There is speculation over that.
I liken the Xoom to Android Dev Phone 1, or the G1, same phone really.
In other words, we're the first - but not THE device of Google. Right now, it's the "Apple of Google's Eye" D) - for now.

Why ruin one of the thinnest phones with extra unnecessary thickness? I thought I'd use the Epic keyboard, but I use Swype. Swype is faster for me. If the Nexus was out when I got my Epic, I'd have gotten that.

Agree. One of the reasons I went with the Epic was because of the keyboard (coming from TP2), but once I started using Swype I have never gone back to the keyboard. I occasionally slide it open to clean out the pocket lint, but thats about it.

LOL. Yeah, it's like giving someone a curse. Such a shame too. Asus could have made this situation a lot better.
My Transformer was rock solid till I got greedy and wanted ICS on it. ICS on Transformer has been a nightmare.
That said I love this tablet when it works, it get's used and abused every day.
Just ordered a Nexus 7 yesterday though, gonna see how the 7 inch form factor works out for me. Still Asus made, so I have fingers crossed.

Yep, I feel like ASUS owe me and everyone else with the problems, some sort of partial refund at least. It's not like a laptop where you could install a different OS until they sort their stuff out.
Because of asus' incompetency, it has now been useless longer than it has been stable, imo that is not acceptable and if I could be bothered I would fight for a full refund and be done with them.
Since ICS, the tablet has sat unused the majority of the time because of the sheer number of bugs making it a chore to use rather than an enjoyment.
And what irritates me is all the feedback on the problems people on their FB page give, and asus completely ignore it and post childish "Happy Friday" etc comments as if they are some silly little school girl talking to her little friends
Company has gone from top 3 to never again for me
Is this problem only on the Tf101 with ics or on all the other ones as well?

I'm completely stock, and un-rooted. I have zero issues, and I use my tablet all day long. I also have about 100 apps installed. I had some minor issues on the initial ICS release, but they are long gone. If I had a fraction of the issues being reported, I'd have "eBayed" my TF a long time ago, or installed a custom ROM.
