Wifi only galaxy tab on Apr. 4th, how about 10.1 wifi only - Galaxy Tab 10.1 General

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990002
I know the wifi only galaxy tab 10.1 has not even been announced, and this news gives me worry that we may still have to wait months after April for a wifi only 10.1

I totally agree with you. I think Samsung needs to jump on the bandwagon quicker and announce a Wifi only galaxy tab 10.1. Unlike Moto Xoom, Samsung shouldn't take the risk having the galaxy tab 10.1 called overpriced and without a wifi only option. I would be really disappointed if samsung had no plans to release a wifi only galaxy tab 10.1.
Moto Xoom has plans for a wifi only version which should be coming out late march or early april so I don't see why samsung wouldn't jump on the bandwagon.
Personally for me, I am only interested in a Wifi only galaxy tab 10.1 as I have no interest in paying another data plan on top of my cell phone data plan. If Samsung can make an announcement about a wifi only galaxy tab 10.1 on Mar 22 at their 78910 conference that would be great news for this product.

wifi xoom coming march 27'
it wins

I hope they announced the Wifi 10.1 b4 March 27 or else Xoom for me

Why would they promote the tab? We don't want the tab, we want the 10. Come on Sammy!

My parents currently pay my phone bill. I wouldn't mind getting a data plan, one that I'll pay for. Especially for a device this spectacular.

Wifi only tab?

I want to get a galaxy tab but I do not want to be stuck with a carrier...
Was wondering when the wifi version will be out and will it be cheaper ^^
I just bought a used TMO Tab on eBay ($469 USD). >$100 more than a new one from TMO, and I get to skip the $40/month data plan. Figure I can activate it with the SIM from my Vibrant then just use the Mobile AP on my phone to provide connectivity when I don't have wifi. Or maybe buy a pre-paid SIM.
There are plenty of unlocked Tabs or CDMA Tabs with bad ESIN's on eBay, if you're game for that. I figure I can probably get most of my $$ back on the Tab when I want to go for a G Slate or such. Just couldn't wait any longer. God help me, I bought another Samsung product...
i want to wait for the XOOM and an HTC tablet but I know they won't come out with wifi only variants
I wish there were more sub 400 decent wifi only tablets...
Probably around the end of first quarter is what they predicted at CES.

Verizon Galaxy Tab now $199

Just saw news that the Verizon reduced the price of Galaxy Tab to $199 with 2 years contract due to iPad 2's release.
Not a bad deal seeing as they have a plan for 20 bucks a month. I just don't like CDMA variants of the tab.
if you can hold off a bit longer, looks like the wifi only version thats available overseas is coming for 399. hopefully this will inject enough interest that will keep our tabs in the running for future android software updates
The data plan is so cheap (20 / month) you almost may as well have 3G... that's 480 dollars for the entire contract, the subsidized price is 200 dollars cheaper then the WiFi only model...
Leaving the extra cost of the 3G model WITH data contract only 280 dollars more then the 400 dollar Wifi model.
Considering the additional flexibility 3G offers to a device like a tablet it really is probably worth it unless you think you will absolutely never ever use the tablet somewhere you don't have WiFi.
IF you only use the tab at home then it is worth waiting for WiFi.
HOWEVER, if you carry the tab around with you then an always available 3G signal transforms the value of this thing beyond recognition...
I have a TMO tab that I first bought, intending to turn it into a phone. It now serves as a WiFi-only device for use at home. I also switched to an ATT tab with full phone and 3G once the full extent of TMO's crippling became evident.
Having a single communication hub is great, but having full connectivity with a device that is always within reach takes it to a new level.
Yes, many phones give equivalent 3G availability nowadays, but the larger screen increases the usability of the device beyong what is available on any current phone.
My point is that if you don't need voice, the value of a connected Verizon tab becomes VERY compelling when compared to a WiFi-only variant for anyone who would use it outside the home.

Is anyone even buying the $800 3G Xoom anymore?

With all the cheaper tablets out now or in the near future, is anyone going to be "brave" (using a nice word) enough to buy the $800 3G Xoom anymore?
I am trying to sell my 3G Xoom (barely used) for $625 on Craigslist and I don't even get any real offer for about 1 week (except for people who wants to trade it for tatoos work).
That is a lot of savings for an almost 2 month old tablet when you take into account of not having to pay taxes.

I sold mine and got the playbook and am very pleased.
I couldnt even sell my Xoom for 625.. Sold for 600$ . When I listed my iPad 2 only 40$- retail it sold by the next day.. Xoom for a week couldnt sell for 200$- retail without me having to deal with shipping. Basically also when you buy the Xoom current 800$ price point model the price drops 1/4 immediately.
So if you buy it at say Best Buy and have 14 days remember after this your 820$+ device is really worth 6-650$
I guess im lucky i sold mine for 650 on craigslist and same as you i bought a playbook.
The playbooks screen is just amazing!
If it were a wifi only Xoom maybe, but since it's a 3g Xoom I find it pretty stupid to purchase when you can get a wifi only one for the same price. I mean sure, you can get a plan but why get a plan for something that your smartphone could tether its current plan to?

Why do you need a plan? The 3G that I am selling does not need any plan.
Also, I currently have the ipad, the T-mobile Galaxy Tab, the 3G Xoom, and I bought the 64 GB Playbook on opening day.
I love the Playbook so much that I have neglected to use the other 3 tablets.
I need to sell my 3G Xoom to buy the 8.9" Samsung tab in June. I have too many toys now.

But I think that is the point/problem...
If someone doesn't need/want the VZW data plan, then they don't need to spend the extra $$ on the VZW Xoom with 3G (4g upgradeable).
So if you're selling a used VZW 3G Xoom, its a tough sale when a "NEW In Box" Wifi Only Xoom can be had for $539.99 to $599.99.
Also consider the "NIB" Xoom would have a store return policy, and the warranty wouldn't have started weeks (or possibly two months per the OP) ago.
Id wait till motorola upgrades the radio so you can say its 4g capable since its free n ur waiting till june to spend the money on another tablet if it was just wifi only id sell it now but im sure some people wud like to be able to put there thunderbolt 4g unlimited data sims card in the tablet
it be a faster sell once its got its 4g radio
Lol, how many things in the world have cheaper version?
If you want a ferrari do you buy a fiat cause it still has all the wheels and an engine just lik the ferrari?
Yes, people are still buying the 3G XOOM, I paid £580GBP for mine and it was well worth it.
The Acer should be half the price, it's an entry level company.
Some people feel that using a phone as a wifi hotspot/tether just eats up the phone battery much quicker and so it's not that useful if you plan on surfing the net with the Wifi Xoom for long periods of time.
I ditched my smartphone and now pay less for the same amount of data I was using. My dumbphone is still a better phone than the smartphones I've had.

Well unfortunately some countries don't have the luxury of having many public wifi hotspots.

You made a good point. I will just hold onto the $625 price point until I fully upgrade to 4G and see if it will sell better. I will feel better if I use it more often before I sell so that I can get my money's worth.
tethering is just fine here - Nexus One + Xoom.
Heard about charging your phone via your Xoom using a micro-usb to micro-usb cable ... need to buy one and try it out myself cuz the Xoom battery is just awesome.
Went with a dumb phone and 3/4g xoom, and paying less for data too. Use wifi at home and work and 3g when I'm out and about. Luv my 3g tab

I bought 3g specifically so that I can get a plan. Hoewever, I'm personally waiting for 4g upgrade before getting a plan. And people do still buy it, the ones who travel alot.

FREE Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G (ROGERS CANADA)

I just called retentions as my cell contract, which I may get rid of, is coming up with rogers and they offered me a retentions plan for a tablet.
They are offering me a BNIB Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G for free on a 2 year contract on their flex plan, $25/month for 500MB, which admittadly isn't that much data, but yea I have unlimited with my WIND phone anyways.
But still, pretty good deal
Just thought I'd let me fellow Canadians know in case anyone was in the market for a tablet!
hm not too sure deal is so great, you pay $600 over 2 years. you can buy a tab straight for about half that $300-350 then buy a plan you can use. Unless you are using it mostly on wifi, you'll spend more going over the 500mb/month. And if you use wifi, just buy the tab second hand (still good condition) and use it as a wifi only tablet/or use it on a prepaid plan as well
I'd take this deal if it was in the US.

Best Buy Deal

Sorry if already posted, didn't see it in first few pages.
Anyway, got my note 10.1 Saturday and it's awesome. I gave my note 8 to my son. Best Buy has a deal right now I didn't see advertisement for. If you sign up for Verizon wifi service with certain Hotspot modem, don't remember which now I'll have to search, and buy the note 10.1 you will get $200 rebate check. Not bad if you need portable wifi.
