Question about app compability - Galaxy S II General

So if I bought the Fruit Ninja Tegra version will it be compatible with Galaxy 2? it doesn't use nvidia's chipset but has similar performance......

I'm pretty sure that even though Fruit Ninja HD isn't optimized for Exynos, the Mali will still handle it well although I wouldn't be surprised if it had a lower framerate or something.

Which android phone has full OpenGLES 2.0 support and most powerful GPU?

Hello!
I am looking for a new phone and would like to know which of the present android devices has full OpenGLES 2.0 support and the most powerful GPU for best game experience?
Thanks a lot!
So far from what I heard, the Samsung Galaxy S has the most powerful GPU. It is said to be 3 times faster than the GPU on the iPhone.
TI OMAP3 has the PowerVR GPU that's faster than in the Snapdragon processors. That's as far as I know.
Maybe an overclocked Droid/Milestone?
Zune HD has a nVidia Tegra last year, and this is about to come out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCTWkJRxm5E&feature=player_embedded
And I bet they are thinking up some cool new phones that not only have Tegra2 and can play a version of Unreal Tournament, but finally add some controls to make it usable. There are bigger devices (tablets) that have Tegra and Android that are out ? or will be out before any phone. Just check engadget.

where did u reed this m8?
my 2c milestone/droid for best gaming experience.
1 of the most powerfull gpu's but 1up's everyone else with hardware keyboard
so far have been able to play any game no issues, including Gangstar, and Sandstorm (basically GTA3 and Call of duty knock offs) no overclock
for Nova (Halo knock off) i'd say overclock to 800mhz just to smooth it out.
Also Marvel vs capcom and all the snes games are killer on it -> perfect emulation no need to OC
out of the box their are some mandatory downloads (like launcher pro) to smooth it out, but once thats handled it can easily keep up if not surpass the X10, N1, & Desire. and pass all of them in gaming - rumor has it droid 2 is coming out soon so might want to wait for that.
1 last thing, I also heard Galaxy S had the best benchmarks of them all and the best graphics chip (can't remember from where) but again... no keyboard
PS milestone (GSM droid) can be OC'd without needing to reboot or anything, just up it before you start playing Nova

dungeon defenders problems on galaxy s ii

hey guys, theres no video here but i contacted the guy who has the retail model of the galaxy s ii and i asked him to try out dungeon defenders.
he tried it and this what happenend:
"Currently all the startup pre-video things work fine, but the main menu-part is absent, only some green text near the top right hand corner saying "How to play". You hit that and it takes you to the tutorial, but nothing else seems to be there. Not sure what's going on "
any ideas whats going on here guys?
im thinking its got to do with graphics problems on gingerbread, but I might be wrong.
From his twitter:
dom_armstrong Dom Armstrong
http://youtu.be/0xbzyrVNiVA some 3d gaming on the #Samsung #Galaxys2 with "Reckless Racing". Trying to get Dungeon Defender...
Its because it wasn't built on/for the Mali 400 MP. Every hardcore game has different versions of it so as to accommodate the different GPU's. E.g. asphalt 6 has a version for powerVR sgx540 phones, whilst it has a different version for Adreno 205 and so on and so forth. So most hardcore games will have to be ported for the Mali 400MP, just like how it is being done for tegra devices now. Eg. Gameloft is making ports of every android game they have released for the tegra devices like the Atrix and Xoom.
look what i found
"the Galaxy S 2 is never anything less than blazingly, disgustingly fast. Dungeon Defenders, which uses the Unreal mobile engine, looks gorgeous and plays smoothly"
thats from this new review of the galaxy s ii from electric pig
http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2011/04/22/samsung-galaxy-s-2-review/
Yeah I think that the version that he tested (on the OP post) was not compatible with the MALI400 GPU that's why it struggles like he said. That reminds me the exact same situation for the original Galaxy S when it was out there was one of the best game (if not the best game formerly) that had all the textures white and therefore was unplayable : Gangstar west coast hustle. That took about a month and a version made for the galaxy S was out with even better graphics than other version, and nowadays every game has a "galaxy S" version so don't worry too much bro
They don't necessarily need to make separate versions for different GPUs as the APIs are the same, but as with desktop cards you need to do compatibility testing. There's also a question of optional features which might be present on some GPUs but not all.
I hope and believe Galaxy S II will be very successful, at which point everyone will have to make sure their game works on Mali 400 as well as SGX, Tegra 2 and Adreno.

HW3D for sgs

Hi,
is there any drive or kernal that support HW3D in sgs? i want to play HW3D games
Sorry but.... wtf is HW3D???
Sent from my GT-I9000
hardware acceleration gpu for 3d gaming
All galaxy s kernels support hardware acceleration.
not working new 3d games running only for lg 3d
If you're talking about Tegra games then no. They are specifically developed for Nvidia Tegra devices and will not work. Anything with THD at the end are a no-no unless you have a Tegra device.
You mean 3D like that stereoscopic thing? If yes, then answer is NO, and there is no use to it on SGS, since there is no 3D screen. If you mean simple 3D games (like Gameloft ones), then there is (and already was) support of SGS GPU in all of it (exept ones exclusively for Tegra and Quallcomm chipsets, but there is not a lot of them).
i am talking about Tegra HW3d, i heard that some one make a emulation device driver for it

Shadowgun & Sprinkle for All devices are released

just thought to let you know both shadowgun and sprinkle are out with adreno support
both plays lovely on the DHD a lot faster/smoother than the tegra version with chainfire
I'm actualy surprised by the performance adreno 205 its clearly a match to tegra 2
glad to hear that it's working well with the dhd. I was waiting on this game. Just realized that they optimized it for adreno. looking forward to playing it :]

This is why benchmarks are not everything!!!

The hummingbird chipset always use to beat the snapdragon S2 chipset in 3D graphics performance. In short the powerVR SGX 540 was considered significantly better than the adreno 205.
But I have seen phones with the S2 chipset which just run games better than nexus S. Even the sony phones with 512MB ram manage to run GTA3 and temple run totally smooth without any mods or hacks just all stock. Whereas nexus S cant without doing all sorts of tweaking.
I suppose game devs dont support the hummingbird chipset well which is really surprising given how well the galaxy S performed in the market. Maybe samsung should actively work with devs? What is the point of creating the fastest GPU's if they dont get the support? There are some very graphically intensive games that run smoothly like asphalt 6 and 9mm HD so obviously the hardware is there.
I am disappoint with nexus S gaming support.

I most certainly agree with you. however, you must realise, the Nexus S is considered to be a developer's device, not a consumer device, designed for coding and easy hacking, not UX. if you want a consumer device, go look somewhere else.

Gnex have TI OMAP 4460 CPU processor...
how it is compare to exynos SGSII???
For GPU many said that Mali-400MP SGSII is better than PowerVR SGX540 Gnex..
they said..I just have I9100T but dont have Gnex..So I cant compare..not a single of my friend use Gnex also..
Saw youtube videos where galaxy nexus was lagging in GTA 3 lol. Galaxy nexus isnt a weak phone, it's just not adequately armed for the massive 720p resolution. The galaxy S2 has WVGA resolution which is why it can still match pretty much any of the newer phones in 3D benchmarks. Having a lower resolution is a serious advantage for gaming smoothness. And that makes the case of the nexus S a bit more disappointing as it doesnt exactly have very high resolution even for its time.
For a real comparison I would suppose it would be better to compare S2 with sensation. The S2 beats it handily in benchmarks so it would be interesting to see if it translates to real world performance advantage.
As far as UI smoothness is concerned the nexus S is right among the smoothest single core phones I have used. The hardware is clearly very capable just that game support from devs seem to be lacking maybe because the snapdragon S2 is used in so many phones whereas the hummingbird is only used in 2 phones.
I think the OP is talking about the Quallcomm Snapdragon S2 chipset but not about the Galaxy S2 (Adreno 205 vs PowerVR 540SGX NOT Mali-400MP vs PowerVR 540SGX).
You took the discussion to the wrong side, i think...

Haha well I just figured why the S2 and galaxy nexus were brought in the equation.
I wish we had real gaming benchmarks instead of synthetic. Yes I was comparing nexus S GPU with adreno 205.
