Hungry for knowledge - Vibrant General

I would like to know if there any guru's out there who have time to mentor someone wants to learn more about rom's builds, apps and any other info you would like to share.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

There are several "how to" do ...in the dev section. I would first recommend reading enough to be comfortable with both the terms and the technology. Then take a rom, theme or kernel and take it apart. piece by piece, then start trying to put it back together and see if you can. This is how I learn tech, and I think most start there. You will need some Linux understanding and or some computer language experience.
Play around for a month and after doing this every day for a month, then you will be able to ask some of the devs to help you, and they will because you will have some skills to work with........

buy android book AMAZON.COM or whacha prefer to shope at

I have the android book, need something else not retaining information

I'm not sure if you are trying to say something, and don't know how... if you are just emphasizing your point, or if you are bumping your thread... but it makes me doubt you have the ability to heavily mod code.
Can you just ask what you want to know?

This is what I was talking about,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=667298
Follow this advice, Cyanogen is one of the best, I would listen to his recommendations.
to use an analogy You can't write words without knowing the alphabet, and you can't compose cogent thoughts without knowing the language. You need both skills.
Learning how to write code is the same thing. You have to start with the basics and go from there......
LikeS15274N said, if you have a specific question please state it otherwise, Get on with the Reading.............

Hey thanks alot for responding. Great analogy, I would like to know if you could help me better understand how to use odin. I can flash back to stock and have done so about 50 or 60 times trying to install custom ROMs. Everytime I try to flash bionix or voodoo the phone gets stuck in reboot loop. So if you could assist with helping me understand this process that would be great. Please keep in mind I will come back for more info as I progress. Please understand my only purpose here is to LEARN. Thanks
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

First things first then, you do realize that you do not use ODIN to flash Bionix, or any custom ROM correct?
In the first reply, I suggested you read the guides in my signature.. have you done this?

I am reading right now. This is alot of good info. So where and how do I identify the sd to place the zip file once its downloaded.

when you mount it to your computer you will get two SD cards. one will be your internal sd (the correct one) and the other will be your external sd card.
you can easily identify them by the size difference. I believe the internal is usually somewhere around 12 gigs. I have also renamed mine (via My Computer) to INTERNAL_SD so it actually pops up like that when I mount it.

Okay, I keep getting an error cant find sd. Now what??

on your phone here are what the sd card paths look like
internal sd: /sdcard/
external sd: /sdcard/external_sd/

Hello,
I have read the two guides you have online. With what I have gathered I was finally able to flash my phone with bionix 1.3. This is 10x better than the stock. Now, I need to do this another ten times then move on to other tasks. Thank you for you help, I hope that you guys will be available to assist.

Easy to install 2.2 rom?

Hey guys-
I was wondering if anybody would be willing to create an easy to install froyo rom for the vibrant that could be installed through rom manager? If it's possible and someone would be willing to take on the challenge I and many other noobs out there would be much ablidged. Thanks in advance.

CM 6 is coming. For now enjoy the great job done so far
if you take a look at other threads under this forum, there has been work at porting 2.2 to this phone. Some difficulties in getting a fully functional build. I would recommend using the search function before starting a new thread, especially when posting under development, as you'll prolly get flamed pretty heavily.

I'm totally aware there's a 2.2 rom out for the vibrant already but what I'm asking for is a much easier to install version of froyo.

It does exist. It was the international Froyo leak but it is not a complete Froyo since it is missing JIT as well as other things. That leaked ROM is incomplete and is not stable for everyday use. Especially on a Vibrant, there are a lot of bugs with it and it is not recommended to be using it as the daily ROM.
It's better off waiting for 2.2 to release by Samsung or the CM team. It's just around the corner. Be patient.

Exactly - there is no Froyo rom that is much easier to install than the leaked int'l one, let alone a stable one. What he's asking for doesn't exist. There's no secret, stable, froyo.zip floating around that people just aren't talking about.

So far theres not an easy way to get a fully functional 2.2 however as with anything give it time and we will see it some time.
i do believe that everyone on here wants that including all the developers working on it. if we were happy with 2.1 then we would have stuck with the original os that samsung put out for the vibrant. really did you have to ask this here? or at all? its technology its always growing. give it time!

Ok man, if I were you I would play around with a linux box to get to know linux commands, then I would play with modding the kernel on that linux computer. I recommend this so you don't build a rom with a how to and. Then put it on your phone and end up with a brick.

[Q] Easiest Root for myTouch 4g

Hey guys. I have tried many methods and can't get it right. Can anyone post the easiest root and S-off method.
Thanks in advance

I used this method to root my MT4G, it was a piece of cake.
Good luck.
I have 2 questions.
1- what explorer are they taking about when they say open explorer and hold down shift
2- how do you set up a adb?
And be easy on me. I'm only 13

Hi man,
The Easiest way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995549
NO ADBS, nothing to be messing with your Computer, or anything. Almost everything done thru the phone.
FOLLOW THE EXACT WORDS. If you dont want to pay for ROOT EXPLORER APP, get FILE EXPERT ( make sure you select on Settings - File Explorer - ROOT EXPLORER)
the rest is pretty easy IF you do word by word
Root Explorer (or ES explorer). They will help you go through folders/files in your SD card or internal memory (like move/copy files to different folders etc.) as you do when you have your phone plugged into your computer.
they provide a link (to a video) on how to set up ADB on that same thread.
EDIT: Or you could use the thread which danccs posted. I was looking for that thread myself but couldn't find it. Lol

Hmmmm .... let's see. Maybe because I plan on resurrecting a lot of threads like this one with new links to Empire Android as it (empire android) will soon be filled with simplified but accurate guides for rooting ALL android phones. Many people have a hard time following blogs with guides to root their phone because the authors of those blogs seem to forget that they're dealing with people who aren't exactly what you would call tech savvy and as a result don't explain things correctly or in deeper detail. That's why people come to these forums asking questions that people like you would probably call dumb when in fact they are not. But i guess instead of drawing some sort of intelligent conclusion as to why I might have resurrected this thread you'd rather try and make it sound like something its not. I hope you feel better now. (And since it seems like you had nothing else to do with your time when you posted this you will have nothing to worry about in the near future as long as Android phones keep coming you will have lots of threads like this to make yourself look like a fool on) No hard feelings. I hope I've answered your question.

[Script] V6 SuperCharger! HTK & BulletProof Launchers! The ONLY Android MEMORY FIXER!
I dont know if anyone has seen this yet, but I didnt see any posts here about this wonderful tweak. This is not my work, I just used it on the newest leak gingerbread 2.3.4, with chris41g EG22 kernel+ and it works great. thanks go to "Zeppelinrox". I didnt copy and paste his work here cuz I didnt wanna take from his greatness, lol.. If you got questions about this, please see his thread. Dont forget to hit his THANKS button!!! Spreading the Epic Love!!
Check out his thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
Using chris41g's kernel you've already got most of the good stuff of that tweak. I just added a single line to the end of /system/build.prop ("ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1") to make the launcher stay loaded in memory. I run with about 85 megs free memory that way, and I load a lot of stuff (Lookout, Tasker, several keyboards, superbox, 5 screens of widgets, etc.).
Well I thought it might help someone out that is a bit less knowledgable than yourself about these type things. but thats a nice pointer to keep home in memory!!
Can you use this on froyo as well? And do I just flash the zip or is it more complicated?

the way I did it is I downloaded "busybox installer", and install busybox 1.18.2 or lower, I then downloaded "Script manager" from the market. Then download the v6 Supercharger.txt file and place it on the root of my sdcard ( root meaning, not inside any folders ) then open "Script Manager" and select "V6 Supercharger.txt", make sure to check "RUN AS ROOT". Then FOLLOW his thread as for the other steps. But I do know its as easy as just selecting a number and hitting "enter", ( I selected 9 then 11), once that runs thru, reboot, open it back up and selecting number "11 or "12", and running it, then reboot, and your done.
On another note, if you read his post, you would've read that it should work for most OS's within Android.
also I just seen that this was posted in the Q and A section. my apologies.

My friend is currently trying to get a version that we can flash, because normally it just transfers straight from adb. He has to fix permissions and symlinks of the dump. Hopefully if everything goes right we should have a build by tonight
I would really appreciate this, been wanting to try it out, but don't have a PC running linux now.
Interesting. If I get time I might setup Ubuntu in Virtual Box and give it a try.
I'm so trying this when it's fully functional, even if I have to wait a long time.
