Easy to install 2.2 rom? - Vibrant General

Hey guys-
I was wondering if anybody would be willing to create an easy to install froyo rom for the vibrant that could be installed through rom manager? If it's possible and someone would be willing to take on the challenge I and many other noobs out there would be much ablidged. Thanks in advance.

CM 6 is coming. For now enjoy the great job done so far

if you take a look at other threads under this forum, there has been work at porting 2.2 to this phone. Some difficulties in getting a fully functional build. I would recommend using the search function before starting a new thread, especially when posting under development, as you'll prolly get flamed pretty heavily.

I'm totally aware there's a 2.2 rom out for the vibrant already but what I'm asking for is a much easier to install version of froyo.

It does exist. It was the international Froyo leak but it is not a complete Froyo since it is missing JIT as well as other things. That leaked ROM is incomplete and is not stable for everyday use. Especially on a Vibrant, there are a lot of bugs with it and it is not recommended to be using it as the daily ROM.
It's better off waiting for 2.2 to release by Samsung or the CM team. It's just around the corner. Be patient.

They're working on it, once Eugene has it fixed, he's going to make a flashable .zip file for easy installing. He posted this in his 2.2 thread.

Exactly - there is no Froyo rom that is much easier to install than the leaked int'l one, let alone a stable one. What he's asking for doesn't exist. There's no secret, stable, froyo.zip floating around that people just aren't talking about.

I havnt seen a single rom on here that ISNT easy to install....
just waiting to see flame city for this one, similar questions have been asked time and time again... plus this isnt Q&A forum.....

Well for anyone that didn't use ODIN as there method of rooting and who doesn't want to spend more time then having to flash a basic .zip file, than there are some harder to install roms.

This forum has become like a kindle box just one spark turns us all in to flames. Calm down guys and remember you have something other than your E(letronic)ego to work about. Im sure you have cut infront of a car before not trying to be rude just let this pass and answer the damn question.
So far theres not an easy way to get a fully functional 2.2 however as with anything give it time and we will see it some time.

i do believe that everyone on here wants that including all the developers working on it. if we were happy with 2.1 then we would have stuck with the original os that samsung put out for the vibrant. really did you have to ask this here? or at all? its technology its always growing. give it time!

Fair enough - my bad, OP. If it was easily doable though, you can believe it would be done. I can't dev, so I wait and watch, because the guys (and gals) that can are doing whatever they can.

SGS doesnt have a stable cyanogent yet...haha

So I recently went on the cyanogen website to see their news "CyanogenMod-6.1 Stable Has Landed!" I know that the SGS is different from other android phones so I laughed. Of course I had to look at the stable downloads, all of the phones had stable downloads except for our SGS.
Am I angry, nope...just found it funny. Damn you samsung :]
Oh wait HTC Desire HD doesn't have one
Well with only one person who knows about coding working on the epic port of cm6 its not gonna happen anytime soon unless some people are willing to step up and help out.

Also fyi there I am not poking fun at the sgs phones. The reason of why there is no stable mod out is because sprint chose to create the platform differantly. that causes our single dev, not noobnl to try to code and work it out by himself. Like I said if I knew the coding I would help the only dev working on the mod.

Thus, further proving my point that the OPs question was valid. ROMs are coming out daily and managing to get 2.3 running on a Hero (quite possibly the least suitable phone for 2.3 in regards to hardware) furthers the validity of the OPs question.
what is wrong with people being greddy with updates?when we were on 2.1 ppl gt angry and want 2.2 even if our phones wasbetter than everything else on 2.2 wen were on 2.1..now we are tasting 2.2 everyone wants 2.3?wtf is wrong with u guys?

My expectations are high for having 2.3 on Epic sooner than later, given the similarities innhardware with Nexus S. I know there is more to it than just copying it over from another device, but I would hope It would be faster than the time it took for us to get Froyo.
Seeing the Hero run it is just amazing. I mean, I would expect Evo up there as one of the first, but not Hero.
Keep supporting and encouraging our devs and soon we will see it!
You would be amazed at how fast this runs on a hero, the queen of lagging. You all are in for a treat when it does get ported or released.

Your kidding right! You crack me up. Just cause it boots up on a hero it is far from fully functioning and they even said without source many things won't even work. It is very unstable. I got an idea, why don't you start porting it over since you have high expectations. I'll be here waiting for your beta! What a waste of time :~) You need at least Gingerbread OTA or source in order to get that Hero fully functioning!

Never once did I say that I was running a fully functional version of 2.3 on my Hero, but back to the OPs remark.
"Is it possible to make a custom rom with android 2.3 for samsung epic?"
I do have a custom rom with android 2.3 running on my hero. So, yes, it is very possible. Now will the devs working on the Epic do this? Maybe not.
I would be willing to bet that I run a 2.3 ROM way before any of you will thanks to the kind devs working with the Hero.
With that being said, I apologize for stumbling on the Epic forum while trying to help a friend root his device. You may go on with your life bashing those who ask repeat questions. I would like to take this time to thank the majority of you for convincing me not to use my upgrade on the Epic if not only for the sole reason of lack of support. I will happily wait for a dual core A9 powered device to come out and stick to my dysfunctional Hero!

For what it is worth, I can state that this will install using recovery 2.5.0.5, as I just got done doing so.
Yep, i've reverted back as far as ROM manager allows and so far so good with backing up any ROM and flashing any ROM
As far as this Honeycomb port goes, I wish I had this on my Gtab. Obviously needs some work, but wow this is a 10 on the cool factor. Who cares who did it or not, these Dev's deserve mad respect for their time and hard work. I actually approached the dev for a port on the Gtab and he says he's been trying, but still no luck. As an owner and avid Gtab forumster, I can say that many people on the Gtab forums would consider this guy a god if he were successful on porting this over.
Everybody chill out about the drama and give props where it's due. This is awesome news and fantastic work.
Yes, it is. Is there another recovery I could use?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Yea go into rom manager and at the bottom it has older recoveries use a 2. whatever one.
flashed for a little but forgot to install gapps. pretty useless right now most stuff doesnt work. along with the bad lag its also pretty hard to navigate since its made for a tablet. things are really small and the mouse has to be moved with the toggle which is a pain in the ass among many other things. might go back to it and try gapps just for ****s and gigs. otherwise useless. will be cool when the bionic comes out and a port comes to that.

First thing you need to learn is that DEVs do this for FREE AND they have families, lives and jobs. Whining because Google updated a Google phone to ICS and not the Epic is not the way to get answers around here. You want to learn? Learn to port and learn about Touchwiz and start working on it yourself. I have spent hours just porting icons from one theme to another, imagine rebuilding an entire ROM? And another thing we don't NEED ICS. Does your phone work? Can you get to your email? What does your phone need from ICS to function? These threads are non-productive.
If you are bored spend hours on the phone with Sprint and try to convince them to trade your Epic for a Nexus.

"Hello my fellow XDA'ers, I was searching for ICS and stumbled upon this thread on the Nexus S that explains they have ICS? Now this has me baffled because the nexus s is similar to our epics sans a keyboard, yet samsung stated our epics can't handle it? This is ridiculous! I don't mean to sound rude and I give many props to the devs who finally ported cm7 but let's be real guys. ICS is where its at and if the nexus s can run it, then what's this bullcrap that the epic can't? I'm sure you guys will be able to do something about it eventually. Here's thethread for reference."
But alas, op, our devs know its bull**** but there's nothing they can do right now. There's an ICS port of the sdk google released that boots but that's about it. I mean, we have the stepping stones just no one has been willing (and. Rightfully so) to step up to the plate an finish the job

Agreed, well said, but don't overlook that our dev's recent success with cm7 may very well lead to cm9 not too far delayed from any other cm-supported device.
So while nothing anyone says on here will likely impact the final outcome, we can all silently hope and cheer on devs for cm9.
