Could Clockwork Mod 3.0.0.5 work on archos - Gen8 General

i was wondering if we could do something like this on the archos?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612

And you are sure you have looked into the dev forum for gen8?

If we can compile an initramfs and a zimage from clockworkmod source, I don't see why not.

But we have the Sde already and we have a Multi Boot Menu

Yes and no. $auron already has replicated some of the functions in his install script. The real question is why do we need CWM? You can backup/restore data directly on the device, or through ADB. You can install update zips by putting them in the UrukUpdate directory. Basically everything CWM does is already taken care of.
I use CWM on my HD2, so I do like it, but it's pointless on Archos, since they already give us the ability to dual-boot through their own Recovery menu.

Why all the people dont want to use SDE?
F*** the warrenty just be brave

I dont heard about anybody who soft bricked his Archos..

Okay, you're not understanding. The Archos AOS firmware and the Archos Bootloader are both encrypted. Even if you can decrypt them, you cannot change them, because they are signed, and the checksum is hardware-coded. Flashing the SDE adds a 3rd decrypted/unsigned boot image that can be flashed through the SDE menu.
Until someone cracks the boot signing and encryption, there can be NOTHING done to the Archos boot system without first flashing the SDE.
And trust me, there are MANY people working on that already, for almost a year.
P.S. How is your A70 useless because of Archos? Since the 2 latest firmware versions, it's been incredibly stable, and it does what's advertised. It even comes with Market now.

The boot loader was cracked see here But I don't think it's a very good option to use.

Yeah, I know, I was following that thread, but I don't like it either. First off, someone needs to find a way to make that change with a reliable script, because you can't ask people to dd and hex edit the recovery block, or there will be bricks-a-plenty.
Second, I have yet to see someone compile a working AOS-format firmware file that works on Gen8. I stopped paying attention, but all the aos-tools only seemed to work with Gen7. Did someone find the AOS decryption code for Gen8?

This Is not very possible. You will need the private encryption key of archos.

I think the only thing that is missing to decrypt the aos file is the public keys that are used to verify the image files. They are stored in the flash somewhere we only need to find them.

Then that's the next step to avoid the need for SDE, i suppose. Not like I don't already have the SDE watermark, but it would be nice to flash images through AOS instead of using the Developer menu.

May be things are different with the 10" Tab, but with my 70IT it's far from being stable, whatever version I used : The Tab is laggy, the touchscreen is mostly jerky and "sticky" (Just scrolling the applications panel is a pain, as when I try to scroll to the bottom of the screen, I got unwanted apps launching), Most of the time I can't have wireless connexion, all bluetooth devices I have can't connect while they do instantly with the SGT, HDMI scrolling is also jerky and in blind mode, most USB storage devices don't work, ...
So I can't do Internet uses, nor Multimedia, except MP3 or Video playbacks IN LOCAL Mode after files transfer from a computer using the USB cable, and when the touchscreen allow me to select the correct files !!!
With the latest firmware I cant even not download any apps most of the time even if by any chance I got a connexion whether from Market or Applibs, for not reason... ^^ System is trying to download but got just stuck (not even a single byte), while I can browse (slowly but still)... ^^
So I have to find the apk from my laptop or with my SGT.

That certainly doesn't sound normal. Have you done a full system reformat and done a fresh install? Not saying it will fix it, but I have had times where it helped with hard-to-determine instability. Things like the wifi connection not working, bad touchscreen response, etc shouldn't be happening.
I believe you, I just know that most people with the A70 don't have those issues. I've even set up a few A70s and found it to be better than my A101, probably due to the lower screen resolution. In your case, it could even be bad hardware. If the SDcard controller fries and becomes unstable, the system can use 100% of the CPU cycles trying to keep up with the errors it will throw. Even the CPU can throttle itself if it's damaged, limiting your frequency, thus giving bad performance.
I hope you can get it figured out, or get it replaced/refunded, because I really do think the Gen8 devices were worth their price. I've had mine for 8 months and I've never regretted it. The Tab is probably a better tablet, but they weren't even close to market when I was deciding to get a tablet.

Arobase40 said:
Yeah, I did fresh reinstall twice and jus got the same issues.
Just for the touchscreen, it was responding more or less fine depending on the firmware version. So I guessed this is a OS issue. For the rest wifi, BT, HDMI or USB Host, it was the same whatever the version !!!
That's the reason, I wanted to do a dump backup and to restore older versions version just to figure out if this is a hardware issue or OS issue... ^^
And that's also the reason, I won't buy newer Tab when they are close to the market but will wait after some weeks or months before to decide. And test deeply them by myself, and not just at reading at web sites or blog tests !!!
I'm really attempted about the Asus Transformer or Slider, but I will wait again for a while... ^^

I would try to get it replaced if it was me. This forum would be very different if everybody had these problems. I know this is a stupid question, but is it actually an A70HT rebadged to say IT?

No, certainly not the only person with alot of troubles, but I truly feel that those people are louder, so you tend to think there's more of them.
Archos rushed to market, like they have for the past 15 years, and I think they started having component shortages, so some of the revisions ended up having unstable mixes of hardware. They probably even know that, and that may be why they've started replacing people's unstable ones as the demand dies.

Ecstatic about my Galaxy S after 1 week - having returned my iPhone 4

Hello all, I posted this on another site, but thought I should post it here too as I have overcome some of the teething problems I had when posting here previously, and am REALLY happy with this phone.
Ive flashed with Pauls Modaco ROM, and replaced the TouchWiz with LaunchPro, and am VERY happy with the speed and overall performance.
I did have a bit of a lag and a bit of a wifi connection issue, but flashed the rom again and the wifi problem disappeared, the lag went with TouchWiz.
GPS has been fine, Navigation great, so has voice searching, playback of my Divx Xvid WMV videos and Flac Ape WMA etc audio files... been loving just dragging and dropping my movies and music to the EXT SD disk, just lovely to NOT have iTunes try to control your life!!
Yahoo and Gmail push are fantastic and incredibly fast (for yahoo you MUST use the Yahoo Mail app which gives you IMAP on Yahoo!!! (yesssssss!!!!) with all its folders etc.
Recording 720p videos has been really amazing, smooth 30fps with no dropped frames, and the audio was surprisingly good too. No flash for stills, but the cam shoots well in low light and you can bluetooth share the photos with your friends too.
ABSOLUTELY bloody delighted I am, by far the best phone I have ever used, thank god I saw the light and returned my iPhone 4, though its really a very good phone, just not as good as this, with the openness, speed, flexibility and widgets!
Thanks for the community and support here,
Mark, UK.
Yes with the newer firmwares gps and lag no longer an issue, and i think launcher pro is a must for this phone.I just love the customisation possibilites with android, you really can make your phone unique and your own.
As for the hd video recording i was playing a few back through the ps3 last night and really was shocked by the clairity of them (being realistic and considering its a phone)
Mark, great testimony.
I'm just about going to eBay off my SGS and get an iPhone 4 mainly because of the serious lags and GPS faults. I'm still very keen to try out Froyo 2.2 but perhaps on a device that has better performance and GPS. As it is now I have not been able to realise some of the key reason why I came to Android - i.e., to watch flash videos and to have browsers that some reports claim is as much as 3 times faster than iPhone's. (I know, I know, I should have known that it is still running 2.1. The Optus shop assistant assured me that she had personally installed 2.2 onto SGS, and I was naive enough to take her word for it before buying)
I like to get to exactly where you are now. Would you mind giving us the links to your firmware please?

Hi Steve, no probs, but I am running 2.1 still!
From experience on ROMS for Hero and then my WinMo Touch HD before that, the best roms are based on manufacturer's release versions. I dont have any GPS problems, certainly no more than any other phone Ive had, and even my expensive, in-car Garmin gps-specific device still takes a while to get satellites sometimes! I have successfully used my phone twice so far to enter an address and do turn by turn navigation.
For my ROM, I paid a bit to Modaco last year, so that still entitles me to free downloads of their roms, the link is
http://android.modaco.com/content/s...rom-for-samsung-galaxy-s-with-online-kitchen/
You DO have to flash first to one ROM then to another, as Paul says in the instructions. For rooting, I think there are some easy instructions on this xda forum.
For the Launcher Pro, Id just search the market.
I have nothing against the iPhone (other than the design flaw and slimeball steve jobs smoke and mirrors) my wife has a 3gs with iOS4, it runs well as a phone, but IMO it is really for people who want a phone with apps that are useful to them... nothing wrong with that! For someone who wants to be closer to the cutting edge, nothing beats android. Personally, as a bit of a geek myself, I love to have a phone that works AND have an exciting phone. No other phone on the market offers ALL of what the SGS does... not even the Evo.
Mark.
ps, the Evo does have 4g but no divx xvid ape flac

Hey Mark,
I've just downloaded JG1. However, since this is my first Android phone, I have no idea what to do with it. Currently I'm having a rooted JF3 firmware. Would you mind just in a few points tell me how to install JG1 since the Modaco link assumes that it's already done?
BTW, the way I unrooted was to download an update.zip file into \sdcard, then press volume, power and home, select the update.zip item, and that's it. Is the procedure for installing JG1 similar? Do I need to rename JG1.zip as update.zip?
Thanks a million, and I look forward to sharing your joy in using this phone.

Sounds very easy. Thanks for your great help. I assume to move to the custom ROM in modaco, I do exactly the same thing again?
I'm having problem. This is what I did:
- I copied JG1.zip into sdcard, and rename it Update.
- Turn off the phone
- Press volume up+power+home until I see the Samsung logo, then let go.
- Use the volume key to go down to apply sdcard: update.zip, press home.
Here, I have these messages displayed:

What did I do wrong?

I don't think you're supposed to flash JG1 as an update.zip? I was under the impression that update.zip is for rooting/unrooting and custom ROMs, and not for official firmware...
You need to flash it with Odin if the update.zip method isn't working!
I can't post links since I'm a new, unverified member (grrrrr...) but go to the Galaxy S Android Development forum here at XDA, there's a {BIG FAQ Thread} {Flash/Root HOWTO}, read post #2 in that thread!

I'm not sure what's in the JG1.zip file.
What I have done is exactly what post #2 says. I don't see any step that I did being different from what it says I should do.
Still no luck with JG1 Installation. Anyone knows what the problem is?
You need to flash rom via Odin here is download link for Odin and PIT:
https://www.wuala.com/Samsung Galax...din/Odin & Bootloader(.PIT)/?key=AfzUZSU4SpKU
Download relevant firmware, in this instance JG1 which you will find at the following(you need to register first):
http://samsung-firmware.webs.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungi9000.htm
Also there you will find at the bottom flash guide in PDF. Download that and follow the instructions.
Once you have flashed firmware then you can flash custom rom.

I know I can use the Odin method via PC to flash the ROM, but I had chosen method B procedure B described in this post to flash instead:

I want to know why it was not working. Or is the post wrong in saying that you can use method B procedure B?

[OLD] The old and busted Lag fix thread

NEW THREAD HERE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765822
THIS IS NOW AVAILABLE IN EXT2, EXT3, AND EXT4 VARIATES(DOES NOT REQUIRE CUSTOM KERNEL!)
IF YOU ARE USING JH2/JH3 FIRMWARE, READ THIS POST, IT IS VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7650658&postcount=312
The reason this step is important is that the JH2 firmware is a test build, and as a test build it has GPS logging enabled... this uses an absolutely ludicrous amount of storage space- and the real kicker? It uses the space OUTSIDE of this fix, meaning your phone will encounter low space warnings very quickly if not instantly upon applying the fix!
THIS NOTE IS FOR EVERYONE. THESE FIXES WORK BETTER FROM A FRESH FLASH. THEY *CAN* WORK WITHOUT A CLEAN FLASH BUT REALIZE THAT YOU ARE POTENTIALLY PUTTING YOUR DATA AT RISK!
What this does (Shamelessly stolen from RyanAZ's OP)
Creates a VIRTUAL EXT2 filesystem inside the stock RFS filesystem on the internal SD card, with a 4KB block size. This means that this lag fix creates a buffer between the real filesystem and the android system. This buffer should reduce the amount of disk I/O required for all operations by utilizing EXT2 buffering, as well as not writing file access times to disk, etc.
PROS
Doesn't rely on external SD
Easy to do
Reverse-able
Real, noticeable performance increases outside of Quadrant (Seriously don't pay attention to Quadrant, but if that's what you care about this will make your pants tighter)
CONS
Uses EXT2 file system which is non-journaled and CAN become corrupted, frequent backups are strongly recommended! (2.2 Implements error checking every 30 mounts)
It's also up for debate as to whether this adds extra strain on your internal memory.
1.0 SECTION WILL FOLLOW 2.0 STUFF
AS WITH ANY FIX: READ THE INFO, KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING, AND UNDERSTAND POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES!
LINKS TO GET THE GOODS BELOW!!
The RyanZA version that does EXT2 is Available at the thread linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=751864
RyanZA has put out an APK version of the fix for people less comfortable doing the update.zip or batch file methods! (This is the V1 lagfix, so for people having issues with the newer fixes this one might work for you!)
TEMPORARILY DOWN UNTIL VERSION 2.3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760571
There is also an update.zip version that does EXT2, EXT3 (1500 Quadrant), or EXT4 (1800 quadrant) versions thanks to Tayutama! I've tested this to work on JH2, and JM5 firmwares! There is also a special version for Captivate JH2 (It also works for JH3) that fixes the GPS Log issues so no need to edit the XML's yourself!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7632258&postcount=208
praveer01 threw up a handy writeup for those of you running Unbuntu or any other Linux system:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7671640&postcount=583
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS AND REMEMBER THIS IS *VERY* BETA, NEITHER RYANZA OR MYSELF WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MELTING YOUR DEVICES OR KILLING YOUR DOG IF THIS FAILS. That said, this thread has been very good about helping people who borked their Captivates with 1.0
Here's the reasons you'd want to do this:
Benefits over version 1
1.7GB of application data available, with no data loss. (Up from < 1GB)
e2fsck of the EXT2 partition on each boot. (To scan and fix corruption!)
Correct busybox version included! YES! (Because no one can get it right =P)
/app directory included in the fix for faster application installs.
Mounts instead of symlinks for extra performance as OS does less work (about 100 or so more quadrant).
2.3 Changelog
/dbdata has been removed. This fixes maps issues.
/app-private is now a symlink to /app/app-private. This fixes paid apps issues.
2.2 Changelog
/app-private is included
A second EXT2 partition is created in fast /dbdata storage. /dbdata/databases are moved inside here for increased speed in applications that use it. (System apps mostly, I think)
Proper parameters for e2fsck.
0% space reserved in the EXT2.
EXT2 partition reduced from 1.7GB to 1.5GB to allow more space for captivate users.
Running from a stock install of JH2 I'm currently getting 2300 quadrant scores with ALL AT&T BLOATWARE AND TW ENABLED!
IF YOU'RE NEW TO THIS KIND OF THING, OR ARE WORRIED ABOUT POSSIBLY HAVING TO REFLASH YOUR PHONE, YOU PROBABLY SHOULD WAIT A LITTLE WHILE FOR MORE PEOPLE TO TEST THIS!
___________________________________________________________________________
Found this over in the i9000 forums and tested it myself- I'm getting 2100+ quadrants scores with the stock Captivate kernel and it doesn't hang up on the I/O portion like all the other fixes... in addition you don't require an SDcard for this to work.
Original thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748596
One of the folks over there created a one-click lagfixer and it DOES work for the Captivate:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749495
FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT WANT TO READ THE ORIGINAL THREAD
This fix creates a 1GB file formatted in EXT2 and moves all of your apps, data, dbdata into it which DRASTICALLY improves I/O performance. One advisory SHUT YOUR PHONE DOWN PROPERLY, this means no yanking the battery out. Due to it being EXT2, non graceful shutdowns CAN cause corruption.
Edit: No wake up lag either- not sure if that's due to using a non-modded kernel or because the ext2 file is located on the internal memory.
Edit 2: Make *SURE* before attempting this that you have Busybox 1.17.1 or the boot animation script calls won't work!
Link to Busybox 1.17.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7574130&postcount=229
DO NOT UPGRADE BUSYBOX TO 1.18! 1.18 REMOVES MAKEFS WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR THIS PROCESS
Edit 3: I haven't used the stock Captivate ROM for a while, but this feels quite fast- Also worth noting that this SHOULD work with any ROM- including i9000, I might test that later but I'm enjoying having functioning haptic feedback. 2200 Quadrant with Shootme and market running! Since seeing is believing I've thrown in a screen cap.
Confirmed working with JM5 ROM
IF YOU USE A MAC OR JUST CAN'T GET ADB TO WORK THIS FIX CAN BE PERFORMED WITHOUT A PC- SEE THE POST BELOW:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7583565&postcount=116

again, those high quadrant scores mean nothing unless you get no lag in real world testing. Such tests can be done in the following apps: Dolphin HD browser, facebook, twitter, touchdown, k-9 email
All common applications that have serious lag on the SGS. Assuming that this method does fix I/O problems (Especially the I/O quadrant tests), there should be no lag in those apps. Anyone try?

I know you have your reservations about these fixes, and you've been very vocal about your opinions on the matter. I happen to agree with you on most points, but as someone who has tried all of these, I can tell you this doesn't feel like the placebo effect. I'll install DolphinHD and toy with it, but everything I've messed with so far seems much snappier. Feel free to try it yourself, it literally takes less than 5 minutes to install, and is completely reverse able.
Edit: So far with dolphin HD things feel snappy, the only exception is pages absolutely laden with flash lite ads... but that's not really an I/O issue, if you've got any particular web site recommendations I'd be glad to check them out and let you know my mileage
So far so good, I recently erased my phone (130mb lag fix not big enough). And this is working wonderfully so far, dolphon browser HD(my favorite browser) works very fast. So far so good, I'll report back when I've tried it for the whole day.

Thanks! I'll give it a try as I don't like being tied down to 130mb for application storage using the NAND fix.
Basic usage should be snappy:
- opening\closing\switching tabs
- scrolling with the volume buttons
- pinch zooming
- loading multiple pages
On stock, and even mimocan's fix, it would lag horrible to the point of unusability.
The only way to make it run smoothly and quickly was to move all your /data/ to the /dbdata/ on the NAND (but limited to 130mb of app space)
I guess my install question wasnt answered. You said run the .BAT file, do i run it on my pc? And what software on the pc side must i have installed?
Thanks for helping a noob!

Plug it into your pc making sure the USB debugging is on. Download the zip file, extract all of it. Run the Lagfixme.bat and make sure you leave the phone screen on (tap it if low time out) to accept the super user permission request. After that it will finish on it's own. Just reboot the phone by shutting it down. The zip file contains all the necessary files.
Edit: and make sure your phone is rooted / has the drivers installed!

The zip file actually contains a copy of the adb as needed, so other than the drivers to be able to connect via USB Debugging, nada.
All I can say is wow. Definitely not placebo. Certain apps used to take forever to initialize (i.e. Facebook, Market). They now start up almost instantly.
I have not tried any of the other "fixes" because to me they break more than they fix. I don't want to use my external SD in a way that makes it non-swappable and I don't want to be restricted to 130mb for apps. This fix is the best so far. I'm guessing it may not be necessary once we have Froyo (double the RAM) but it does the trick for now.
Seemingly didn't work for me, my Quadrant scores are still sitting at 948. I'm on the stock ROM, and undid the previous speed fix I had.

It was answered:
You need root
Download zip file- unzip it.
Put phone into debug mode and plug in USB
run the included .bat file from the zip file and it will do the rest for you.
It has it's own adb.exe but you might need to install the SDK if you haven't already. That's it though.

[Q] Scrolling or touchscreen issues?

Hi all,
Been on the forums awhile for my HTC EVO 4G, so I know the routine I've searched this forum as well as others but had difficulty finding the answers I was looking for. I purchased an A500 on Friday and was hoping that I had quite the bargain, but was surprised at the problems that the device has had right out of the box with regards to scrolling and touchscreen responsiveness. Here's the breakdown.
Problem: It seems that anytime I need to scroll the interface, whether it's in the Browser (stock, Firefox, Dolphin all had the same problem), in drop-down dialog boxes, or even in Gallery or main home screen, scrolling is inconsistent at best, and at worst, completely unresponsive. However, in the case of Facebook or Browser, when the behavior begins, if I put the tablet to sleep and immediately bring it back up, scrolling works just as I would want/expect it to.
Caveats: There is an app that I have used, called "Fluid Monkey", that is basically just a fluid physics simulator (free on the Market). Similar scrolling gestures does NOT have inconsistent behavior, the screen and interface are very responsive, so to me it implies it's not a hardware issue.
Steps Taken So Far: I've successfully rooted the device, installed Thor's CWM, backed up the stock rom, and installed Icylicious, as it seemed to be one that was very obviously supported by CWM (I didn't want to go too far in modding it should I need to return it for a refund). While it does seem that there is a bit better overall performance, I am still experiencing the same interface issues. I have also tried the three touch sensitivity settings, but haven't noticed a difference. I have also found the following things to try:
Using V6 Supercharger Script (supposedly supports ALL devices);
A particular tweak to framework.jar that requires the use of baksmali
I guess the short of it is, has anyone else experienced this same problem right out of the box? Is there a simple fix for this? I really like the device, but it was the last one in stock (clearance as well), so I don't want to take it back if I can fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!
I've had this problem before. The short answer is, it's probably a background process eating up CPU. Best idea to solve it is to do a clean install of your ROM (optimally one with as much as possible crap removed/deactivated, lightspeed is the extreme in that direction -- it is pretty much bare metal, though other custom ROMs are pretty good in that matter also and give a bit more user comfort), then install your apps, one at a time (or restore with TB), run the app, then see if the problem is there.
Another thing you can try is using one of the ICS custom ROMs (they won't screw up your bootloader, the original leak will) and see whether forced HW acceleration can do you any good...
Thanks haag... I had done the clean install of Icylicious (the ICS rom) last night after a full backup/wipe. Even during the first set-up process of setting up the time zone, it took me five minutes to get the drop-down to scroll up to my proper timezone. This was before any extra apps were installed!
Despite my initial assessment, I am starting to feel that the device is unfortunately doomed on the hardware side. I hope there's more suggestions I can try today, otherwise it's going back to the store.
I've seen many people here who are quite savvy with this little device, and I really don't want to return it if I can resolve the issue, but I'm running out of ideas... does anyone have any other ideas I can try, or is it an unfortunate lost cause?
Try Flexreaper R11 you won't be disappointed. Sounds like you are on an older version of ICS that had alot of touchscreen problems. You want to make sure you are on 1.031 or newer version of the leaked ICS roms.

I Would probably advise flashing a 3.2.1 rom, like Honeylicous. I believe he has all the garbage pulled out. This will give you a good base idea if there is a defect with the tab.
In your case, before you go messing around installing any more of the ICS BETA roms, think about it for a minute. Because you'll need to flash bootloaders appropriate to the rom on a couple of them. And this will just be more headache when you discover you indeed have a hardware issue, and have to go back to stock to return it. Remember that the ICS builds, are all Beta.
Try Honeylicous, or any of the 3.2.x roms without a whole lot of mods to them. Make sure you do your wipes and formats properly, then check for the defects. You want to make sure all traces are removed from the previous rom.
There are actually some stock rooted roms available.
I appreciate the suggestions! That was one of the reasons I chose Icylicious, it seemed to have fewer steps and requirements to install and mess with. I may try and backup my current set-up and load up Honeylicious and see if that helps.
Again, thanks all... I hope I don't have to reply further in this thread

No Problem!
Just make sure you follow all the instructions as far as wipes and formats. And... make sure you have a good recovery backup.

[ROM] SHPONGLE v3.5 - "You think you can handle it?" [07.07.2012]

what about the German language
very very nice ROM
humm.. I think you'll have no choice of using Elelinux rom to have multi-language support like I had to do for French due to it's rom based Decked_X who is just available in English..
I have been using this ROM for a little while now and find it to be both fast and stable. A really great job by the developer 1ceb0x, for which I would like to express my thanks.
One small issue I have yet to sort out and that is one of awful keyboard lag. I use Handcent SMS for messaging and am wondering if anyone else is using this app and suffering the same problem? I haven't worked out if it is just this app, or a combination of this app and the installed keyboard yet, but if anyone else has had a similar experience that they have managed to resolve, or can suggest tweaks to try I would be grateful to hear. I really would like to stick with Handcent, if possible.
For anyone who has not tried this ROM, I would recommend they do; it really is a great everyday ROM.

As far as I know, the keyboard lag should be gone in the latest version which is 3.5. However, it was only tested using stock keyboard and stock mms app. If you are having low ram, this could be your problem (or an app is keeping your cpu at 100%) - though the first issue should not occur because the kernel is tweaked to kill apps when mem. is lower than 60 - so basically you will always have 40-50 mb free every time.
Thank you guys for your support and for using my rom, it is really a great pleasure to see how many users have it as a daily driver. Thanks again!

I am writing mainly in response to a post by buba_shrimp in the development forum (I do not have sufficient privileges to post there), but also for my own benefit, as I am seeking assistance for the same issue.
In the early days of having my Hero (stock rom) I found GPS to work flawlessly, up until passing the installation of any google maps release past 5.5.0, when bad things started to happen. I have stayed at this release ever since.
Just prior becoming Shpongled, GPS became a nightmare; tried all sorts of stuff, but nothing seemed to help. I came to the conclusion that the hardware was failing and left it as that. That was until the day that I maintained the gps config file from US to UK/European server settings and lo and behold not only did the phone lock my position lightning fast, but all the other problems vanished too.
On moving to this rom, the first thing I did was implementing my replacement gps.conf and continued to get excellent gps performance – most of the time.
The phone now seems to operate in one of two modes; it either gets a good lock in seconds and performs flawlessly, or the gps connection circle spins for and age followed usually by the phone rebooting itself (I think just as it seems to locate its position, though I’m not quite sure just).
I have posted earlier that I am getting bad keyboard lag too, but now realise that this is a hit and miss affair also, as I only get this some of the time.
Anyone have any idea as to how I can debug the phone when it is experiencing these issues, e.g. any free logging tools or other such monitoring software that may help? Or, suggestions as to things I might try? Was glad to see buba_shrimp was suffering a similar problem – not in a gloating way, in a problem-shared-is-a-problem-halved kinda way.
Regards

I know how to do this, I just don't have the experience to know what I should be looking for.
Ideally I was really hoping for, I guess, is that someone else has suffered these same issues and has a solution.
My question about usefull tools was along the lines of some sort of app that records resource usage over time, to allow for analysis of conflicts, or similar. Anything like this exist? Or is there a better way? The adb logcat is a little too low-level for me I think, unless someone can help me with pointers as to what I should be looking for.
Thanks folks.
Very nice rom, very fast, but .. (sorry for lang)
every app or game in my Hero lags in fews minutes with error " [Application] is not responsive " .. only thing what i can do is tap " Force close " button .. so each game is not playable (gameboid mainly), or i cant read comics, or whatever else ^^ any solutions?
thanks for help guys

It would need to be build from source to get german language in it. So yes, it is a great expense since it needs:
a powerful computer
time
space
i'm so sorry for not being able to provide you guys this rom in other languages. i know i have lost some of you because of this issue but i cannot do anything for it. i can build it from source in a way or the other but it will loose the great speed of decked_x base rom.
thank you for using it thought.

Do Shpongle ROM need swap partition on SD card??
Just a little question: what kind of partition do Shpongle ver 3.7 need on SD card??
I mean: is it necessary to have a little swap partition (60-120MB) ?
PS: version 3.7 is really strong, but I'm waiting for a next and better release

In the last release of Elelinux it is required a swap partition greater than 60 MB and an additional Ext4 partition (maybe for app2SD..??).
I know that Shpongle ROM is not Elelinux (there are differences, I suppose), but.. is there any reason for not to installing swap partition or it's just your personal experience??
Thanks..
It's just slower on every rom, based on user and dev opinions...
How can cyanogenmod and cronos have multilanguage support but not Shpongle?
Have they written the rom in every single language?

Will you still be using the chroot method, or some other way?

Where to start...
Zac,
A wonderful thing to see this thread start so quickly. / I was the one who posted a few days ago about running Deb Wheezy based on your build guide. But I'd like to help push this effort in any way i can. (and I can always run 2 img files since I boot my image from term as opposed to the app...)
My goal reason for the purchase was to be able to bring up X, and launch VPN and RDP / With the build I hacked together I am able to do so with XFCE / VPNc and remmeia / and as far as browsers go, iceweasel was the only one that would semi work. (chrome seg faults / and web would seem to launch and then just disappear...)
When it comes to the webtop, I know there have been some posts about chaning the resolution down to 120 that seemingly puts JB into tablet mode, but I found that to be less than useful once i got into chroot. I've never been happy with the display fonts on the webtop. (once i had a config where the fonts were clear etc, but i did something and lost it... ) But the biggest hurtle there I think in part is that it seems to mirror the 960x540 res / and once you increase it you have to pan. / If you use fit to screen in the menu it will fit it to screen but then the mouse clicks don't pass through...
If you are looking for bugs - what image would be the most helpful / easiest for your to work on? (deb/ubuntu/etc) and full/small etc.
as i will load that to be more useful...
and does it matter what the base rom is. (currently I'm on epinter's CM10 rom updated yesterday) if keeping things more uniform would help I can pop something else on for the time being...
One of the main issues I was getting when running the images was the desktop being gray on the ubuntu 12.04 image like everyone else, but even after getting another desktop loaded on certain programs would not launch. When i would try to launch them from terminal I would get a seg fault. also when I tried to step through the commands in the ~/.vnc/xstartup I was getting a seg fault there as well. (So I am guessing that's why the gray screen when I VNCed. / So the second question is, when I do get a Seg Fault, is there anything additional I can provide that may aid in diagnosing the issue?
Thank you again!

The 'normal' method is to use chroot (after all it does work very well just needs refining), when it comes to the webtop not 100% yet

Hey James,
Really the biggest issue with know of right now is the grey screen, and with the large ubuntu image unity not rendering correctly. So this will be the image I will be working on first.
As far as base ROMs it really shouldnt matter to much (of cause you will need a stock based ROM for webtop) I will be sticking to a stock base for now so if you where testing from a CM ROM that would be very useful to cover both main bases.
Just pointing out the issues is a good start, on Monday I plan to get cracking with it (had to push it back after not finishing unpacking and sorting my office yet) and should start on the bug squishing, and webtop version will be once I get a lapdock which should be once the device fund has finished.
2x mouse pointer
hello
I have the Atrix with the HD Dock and bluethooth mouse and keyboard.
I'm running Nottachtrix ROM which has HDMI landscape mirroring, this means I can use linuxonandroid with a mouse and keyboard in the dock. The problem is it doesn't see the mouse as a true mouse. I get two pointers, one from the VNC and one which is the bluetooth mouse.
Is there away of using the mouse normally?
thanks for any help

Hitting the menu button or fn-f1 should bring up the vnc program options. One of the choices is "input method" there's a few choices and you may to see what works best for you. (The options are like touch, pan, zoom and various combos if those. I haven't found the perfect one but it would the there I expect.
I've got problems on epinter CM10.

2. can't get su in Debian

Ovitz - yes. This is in part why Zac has this thread too. It seems the tegra2 is a little finicky. I was only able to run Debian as well and only with xfce. I created my own image to do so. It seemed to me that the desktop manager would seg fault and then everything else was an issue. A good start may be to go in to the home did for your user and look in the .vnc hidden directory. There will be a file localhost:0.log (the number may change but should be 0 on the standard image. When you locate the file you can use "cat localhost:0.log" to view it or even better add "> filename.txt" to redirect it to a file. And then you can post it. My guess is you will see a segmentation fault in there.
*disclaimer - I'm just an excited user that has been hoping and waiting to get this worked out on the atrix and not a dev...

I tried all the input method options available on androidVNC none were that good.
I'm a bit ruined as I've just unlocked the bootloader and installed nottachtrix with faux1.3 kernal and webtop flys, no lag at all, it even runs bbc iplayer HD.
I was hoping to to find a webtop replacement, as I use it alot, so I can run ICS or Jellybean but the combination of the pointer and the complicated start up is making me hesitate. Great to have it working though big thanks to the devs.
