Nook Ports for Elocity - A7 General

I have a Barnes & Noble Nook Color, a Viewsonic G Tablet and the best of the best...................MY ELOCITY A7.....
I love my nook color so I am using my Elocity as a part time Ereader amongst other things. I have the Nook App on my Elocity and for the most part it works rather well. Is there anyway to copy the Nook Color experience onto the Elocity. I like the way the Nook Color has the bookshelves and would like to get that ported over to my elocity. Can anyone steer me in the proper direction. I have over 200 E-Books purchased from Barnes & Noble on my Nook Color and I want to get them on my Elocity so I can give the Nook Color to my Wife. Is there anyway to duplicate the Nook Experience on my Elocity A7.

Im curious... How does the screen compare to the g TABLET? I know its smaller but what about quality?

Smaller and lower resolution, but the viewing angles are better. It's also better when viewed horizontally. The lower Res on the smaller screen isn't too bad. I find it get the job done just fine.
I have both and like both. The portability of the eLocity is very nice.

wow
I didnt think my thread would get hi jacked
Can we please stay on topic. If youd fine a search there are several threads comparing the viewsonic g tablegb... the nook and the elocity.

Just get the nook app on your elocity and you will be able to access all your b&n books and also epubs. It's available in the market and can also be sideloaded without a problem. Good luck!

thanks not what i was lookin for

I wanr to be able to oorganize book shelves and library like they r organized on the nook color. I have the nook app on the elocity however the nook app does not have bookshlves or catagories

I got what you're saying...
Is the nook rooted? you could try to titanium backup the application on the nook, transfer the file and then reinstall it onto your a7 with titanium backup.
just thinking out loud, not sure of the actual feasibility.

Didn't work

Tried the suggestion above and it did not work. When I copy the back up files over with Titanium they are alled lined out when I try to restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If not guess I'm off to get another Nook Color unless I can find a way to get that Shelves and Library type interface.
Can anyone assist me with this?

Moved to general as not android dev.

Quick Question

I heard you cant change the font or the brightness in kindle when reading a ebook. I was wondering once you rooted the Kindle does this allow that option or is there an app that does this? How full fledged does the Kindle become when rooted? Does the rooting the Kindle only change the fact that you can now get apps from the Android Market and add some Google apps? Does it unlock anything else that makes the Kindle worth keeping?
I am only asking because My friend let me borrow his 10.1 tablet and i love it. It has all the options I need and my Kindle is coming in today. I did not buy the Kindle my girlfriend bought it without telling me but I really wanted the Nook Tablet which is a better 7 inch tablet and has the mic built in plus you can change the font and adjust the brightness. She has the amazon store card and they don't sell the Nook Tablet on Amazon of course, LOL. So before I open it It I would like to know if It's worth keeping?
Thanks in advance
The options for brightness and fonts are in the default settings. Rooting doesn't disable anything except streaming video (for now and that can be gotten around with things like OTA Rootkeeper).
Rooting for the moment pretty much just lets you get to the Market, yes, but in time it'll let you put custom rom's onto it and basically turn it into a normal tablet.
The Nook Tablet has better hardware, yes. If you don't care about the Amazon 'ecosystem' and don't mind the increase in price it may be more to your liking. Of course, so could some other tablet too.

That's true. You have to stop reading the book and go into settings and change the font or brightness.
Where do people "hear" this stuff?
I've been using mine 99% for comic cbr and cbzs. I haven't played with the actual ebooks yet, but I dont see why couldn't. And if you can't, use a different app. I've already grown fond of Aldiko reader since using it over a year on my phone. Version 1.x, I saw v. 2 and they took out half of the features. I've been meaning to check if they reenabled any but Aldiko lets you swipe control brightness and menu swap colors and what not.
You can change brightness, typeface, font size, lines spacing, margins, and color scheme from inside ebooks. Whoever you're hearing this from doesn't know what they're talking about.
And the nook tablet has a.locked bootloadrr and due to.some.other issues is now dead to developers. You can change brightness in books by taping the upper right corner.of.the screen. All other aspects are adjustable as well in the KF.

Can I get the original Nook app on CM7?

Quick background... I have an Asus Transformer so I don't need to convert my Nook Color back to CM7 however I would like to do more on my NC than just read books. The problem is that I MUCH prefer the original B&N Nook app that comes on the Nook Color over the one that I get from the market place after I load CM7.
so... does anyone have the .apk for that app or is that something built into the original B&N rom?
TIA
It's been tried. At least by a few and isn't feasible. I'm not a Dev but if it is possible, and what isn't with the genius available around here, then it's just not worth the effort when there are other ways to keep the stock reader and still be rooted with market access and such.

Thanks for the info. Last time I tried to root and install a different launcher I was unimpressed. But that was almost a year ago.
I specifically want the B&N reader, and the ability to get automatic subscription updates. I've been running rooted B&N 1.4.1 for a bit over a month now, and I've found decent work-arounds for most issues. It's not as trouble-free as CM, but I get all the stock B&N functionality.
I think there's a Zen level of simplicity you have to strive for to get the extra functionality you want without overloading the interface. I've added a very few things to the B&N interface, then pop out to ADW EX Launcher when I want to escape the walled garden. Once I'm outside, it's mostly like running CM. The biggest issue is the white-on-white menu display problem some apps have.

[Q] EReader

One of my main uses for this device is as an EReader.
My question is what will be the best EReader application.
I currently have the Sony PRS600, which is a great reader - but hard to use at night in bed.
One feature I use more than I would have expected is double-click and word and it does a dictionary lookup. Really very handy...
The ability to select font size and reflow the text is a must...
Less used features are the ability to highlight and bookmark pages.
How does the included reader for EPubs compare? I have absolutely no interest in pdf format - I don't find it appropriate on small displays. I want text to be text - and not a picture of text.
I'm using Nook now and I'm pretty happy with it. You can change the font, font size, margins, line spacing, page/text color (sepia, white on black, etc) and set the screen brightness within in the app so it auto-dims when you start reading. You can highlight text to make notes and perform dictionary searches.
I'm quite sure most any of the popular reader apps have similar features so I couldn't compare it to Kindle or claim it's the best. I tend to get B&N gift cards on any given holiday so I've stuck with it as my regular reader app.
If the Nook app looks good on the Nexus, that sounds pretty good. Nook certainly has a reputation for a good reader, and I still have my B&N membership card from my abortive Tablet purchase...
Would love to see some feedback on the stock Nexus application...

+1 absolutely in favor of Moon+ Reader for ePubs.
Anyone tried Moon Reader on the Nexus 7 yet?
A plus for me is that they do not even try to support pdf's.
Guessing Portrait should look best on a 7 inch?
Wishful thinking: Anyone tried it with stickmount yet?
Definitely a contender if it works well on the Nexus 7.

Check out the General section, stickmount works for transferring files, but we haven't been able to open/play files on any external storage.....yet.
I recommend aldiko

Yeah I love aldiko. simple and it does the job. Moon Reader seems to be the trend now though and I've tried. It has a lot going on if that's what you're after.
Play Books seems to have eliminated itself from the competition, since it does not support the EPub format.
My entire library is in EPubs, managed by Calibre, and I see no reason to change.
I got some good suggestions here for readers that will work. Thanks!
cool reader supports mobi files so if ur coming from a fire then no need to convert them
Are there any readers that would let me put the book in my Dropbox folder and keep track of where I left off if I switch between my N7 and phone?
Nook for B&N stuff (obviously!) and FBreader for everything else (I have a mix of epub and prc files).
The Nook app will sync your position across devices, at least for content from B&N. Not sure whether it works on sideloaded content.

I should have been more specific: Books in epub or other open formats.

By Moon+, do you mean the paid version?
Also, does it sync all formats it can open? I downloaded a book in pdf format, will it sync that?
Otherwise I have to see if I can convert it to epub.

I'm still struggling with trying to figure out how to keep moon reader synced between devices. Guess I'll have to check out their web site and hope it explains it.
And 2nd the comment about mobi files.

[Q] Nook Color OS to Nook Hd OS

Currently I have a Nook Color. I am running CM9. What I am looking for is a mod to make it the Nook HD interface. I am not very impressed with the 1.4.3 stock interface, but I was very impressed with the B&N stock interface on the Nook HD. How can I go about getting this on my Nook Color?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't. Not unless B&N releases the source code (aka "recipe") for that interface.
There is also going to be work needed to port the HD's interface to the Nook Color, a VERY old device. Devs don't have time for this. There are much more important things that are being worked on (ex: USB OTG) to pay attention to the UI.

Thank you.
So is there an app that can mimic the carousel?
Why don't you use the CM10.1.3.2 or the latest CM10.2?
I don't see there is any different interface between the HD or Color, it depends on the different versions of Android.
