[Q] Is there a way to import ebooks into the Android 3.0 reader?

I have many ebooks that I would love to read on my new Iconia...Any suggestions or tips appreciated.

i use an app called cool reader, that should solve your reader issues

I use the nook reader. It supports a wide variety of formats and has a nice interface.

I've been a fan of Aldiko for a long time, my favorite publisher (Baen) has the "stock" epub format available for all the books I'd bought in Microsoft ereader format

I use Droid comic viewer for cbz and cbr files,

I DID see/have one that did that, but it didn't handle cbr files at all, just cbz.
Sorry, I can't remember the name - I deleted it. I hate pointless animations that just take up time and power to do. I'd rather have the page just change to the next right away then have a 3 second page turn.

I am using the LumiRead app that came stock with my A500. Just copy the eboks to /sdcard/LumiBooks and the app will pick 'em up.

I downloaded the Nook reader for my wife. She really likes it. When you are swipping the pages, it gives the feeling of turning a real page.

I really hate DCV. I perfer Komik . It supports cbz and cbr and it has smooth transitions between pages.
I keep DCV around for those rare case when Komik force closes when I open certain files.

+1 for Cool Reader. The backgrounds on this app make for reading that is easy-on-the-eyes. I have trouble with the pure white backgrounds of stock apps and some of the others on the market.

Thanks looks great.
Too bad there's nothing (that I've seen) that handles all reading formats.

+1 for nook reader as well. I have a nookColor, so I'm kinda biased by their reader, but it is an excellent app. Other than comics, it has handled any of the books I have thrown at it so far. I usually convert mine to .epub using Calibre, which helps quite a bit.

Ebook reader

I have installed Adobe Digital Editions to use it for e-books.
But before I start buying the books, I would like to know more about what it takes to get the books from Adobe Digital Editions and over in my Samsung P1000 Galaxy Tab.
Anyone here have experience with it, or have completely different suggestions on how I can best begin to use my Samsung Galaxy P1000 as E-book reader ?

I use a combination of aldilko and Amazon kindle for my book reading needs.

don't wast your time and get EZpdf reader, the best for PDFs (I am a PhD and I read a lot of scientific journal on my GT P1000)
for other readings, get kindle, it's pretty good for almost any book you want from the biggest ebook store on the net amazon.

Yep, p1000, and I've used both on Amazon and aldilko on gingerbread and ics.

i prefer using the thinkfree for reading pdf, the "reading view" option were good on a very large ebook..
cool reader for other type of ebooks (pdb,prc,lit,mobi,epub), the stock ebooks app also nice for reading epub...

Cool Reader's an essential app for me. Love it to bits.

I simply use the standard eBook app supplied by default.
Does everything I need
Forgot to mention calibre, the site to assist with all things ebook related.

I happen to use custom ROM instead of stock rom and losing the standard ebook app. are there any comparable application ?
I tried:
aldiko (no animation)
fbreader
cool reader (the animation is still inferior to stock, there is a cut at most right)
moon+
kobo (no animation)
kindle (not working outside US)
Go Book (has animation, i think still has problem in rendering)
my criteria are:
- has animation
- able to download
- render correctly

I believe it does everything you described. Although I haven't personally used annotations much. I wish it had a custom zoom setting instead of preset values. And even better would be to save this custom zoom setting per pdf. Little things like that no one things of...
And it's not free but goes on sale periodically.

I'm not sure. I never tried mantano, but since you mention it's the smoothest, I'll give it a try. I think I skipped that one thinking it's focus wasn't pdf.
Regarding smoothness, repligo is ok, but don't apps have to be complied to use hardware acceleration? From the few I tried, none seemed hardware accelerated.

Unless things have improved, adobe reader didn't even remember last page read, which drove me nuts. But I haven't tried it in awhile.

Do any pdf apps allow you to delete pages? this is something available on ipad which I NEED on android before I can switch... appreciate info

I for once want to give an idea what i can't recommend.
I CAN'T recommend Moon+ Reader as well as ezPDF. Both performance has been very sloppy loading next pages, not very clean controls, even both feature additial features I have never used even once.
Even both readers have like 4,5+ stars in play store.

Isn't PDF supposed to be a protected document file? I don't mean the extension's full name...
Like where you can't edit the content of the file? I don't know the ipad app you are talking about. Maybe that app is just hiding the pages but not really "deleting or modifing" the file / or parts.

The app for iPad is called PDF Expert it is definitely deleting the pages if you export the document to another reader then you will not see those pages anymore.
The idea of a PDF is a portable Document Format it's not protected document format. There are certain types of PDF that can be protected but not all PDF by default.

I remember seeing a reader with "book effect" when changing pages. Its like you drag from a corner and page turns as you swipe kinda thing. Any app that you know has that effect?

Adobe reader does a surprisingly good job.

Nexus 7 and Ebooks

Hi there, i need some help. All i want to do it to load some ebooks into the Nexus 7s default ebook reader, the google play one. I've got several books in both .epub and .mobi file formats but i dont know how to get them into the default ebook reader.
Any help?

As far as I know, it only works with books purchased from the play store. Just use another reader like mantano.

IMO FbReader is one of the best multi-format e-book reader for android.

I've tried lots of readers. Imo the best by far is moon reader +. In second place I would rate mantano reader or cool reader. FB reader is OK compared to those.

I use Cool Reader. It is highly customizable, but it does not support PDF files. For PDF files I use Mantano Reader.

Does Moon Reader still load books by chapters? I tried it over a year ago and it always lagged when switching between chapters.

I use both FB Reader and the Kindle app. Both work great, but I end up using the Kindle one more for some reason.

You're going to have to use a different reader, Google Play Books doesn't accept outside books. I personally use Kindle, but that will require you changing their formats using Calibre on your PC.

Another vote for fbreader. It may not have as much eye candy, but if you have a large ebook collection, it does a better job than most of the others.

Satisfied both with Cool Reader (Galaxy S2) and Moon Reader + (Nexus 7).

I use moon reader since it has a lot of useful features like bookmarks, auto translation, share quotes by Twiter and other social networks and it can handle any format -mobi, epub, etc-
I used to use Aldiko, but i fount moon reader has a lot more to offer.

Moon Reader Pro.
Teamed up with Calibre on the PC, it makes maintaining a full library on the PC and a subset on the Nexus a snap.
Calibre works as an EPub Server, and Moon Reader uses the Server. You can browse every book on your PC from the Nexus.
No wires.. This is all done over WiFi..

i downloaded moon reader (free version) and it doesnt have a page turn animation, it just blinks to the next page. I know its a little thing, but its the little things that make the difference.

Can you take a look through your app and find where it is, also, do you have the pro version or the free one? This may be the difference

ezPDF Reader is the best I have encountered, very smooth and no lag at all.

I am running the pro version, but I thought it was there on free. It's near the bottom of visual options.

You have to scroll down to it. There are a lot of options...

I prefer the Barns and Noble Nook Reader.
Just look in your SD card for Nook/My documents folder and drop your .epub files in there, and voila.
Also, Aldiko reader is not bad.

Aldiko is another good reader.

So I've been wondering, is there a reader that can import and handle multiple formats, and is as visually appealing and easy to use as , say, Aldiko? Any that can do "realistic" highlighting and mark-ups when we whip out our s-pens, disregarding everything save for said pen. I've tried some on the market, but it's pretty daunting, so many of them! Figure our community could help answer this question, or at least get the ball rolling on an app designed specially for our boss tablets.

As an avid ebook reader I would say that I have tried all of the major ereading apps on android. My current favorite is Mantano it has a very nice page annimation and good customization options. I bought the premium version which I think was well worth it. Moon reader is also very good. I dont find it as smooth as Mantano but it is also full of customization options and has a very nice looking bookshelf view if that is important to you.
Others I have tried but eventualy abandon: kobo, kindle,google,fb reader,coolreader,nook,aldiko.. there may be others but for a variety of reasons I found that each of them had some issue that was a deal breaker for me.

Mantano I think is the best for marking up of the ereaders, ezpdf is very good if you intend to read only pdfs but if you want to read epubs then Mantano is my current favorite for reading and marking up. It will also handle pdf although I havnt much experience with pdf's on Mantano
I dont think any of them have a pen only mode though but it has not been an issue for me

I like repligo and ezpdf reader for pdfs and coolreader for all the other formats, it's very light.
I've never used mantano, will give it a try.

+1 for coolreader. Very customizable. I wish they had a larger selection of fonts, though.

I used coolreader for a long time and it was good. I'm a bit if a sucker for how the app is visually . Moon reader and montano are both better in that respect. But once your in your book coolreader was also very good

Aldiko is good,but a little bit complicated.
I now use Kindle for my major reading app,cos it's simple,easy to read and translate,and the greatest is Kindle can sync between my phone and tablet.
Just lacking of format support.

On my phones I always used gobook. Then I found coolreader, and moon reader.

I like ezPDFReader for technical books, I wish they support my note more with the highlighter and a post it note being stylus compatible.

Coolreader on my Note to read, Calibre on my PC to organize and change formats. Calibre is one of the best pieces of software I've ever used!
I wish Coolreader would let you select a default directory for ebooks. It's the major flaw it has that prevents me from using it as a reader for the non-techie types in my family. My Mom just needs to be able to open it up and use it. She's old, and has a difficult time with file systems.

trying moon reader (pro). I couldn't find a way in aldiko to get 2 pages on the screen in landscape.
As far as highlighting, etc. I don't read anything but fiction and don't take notes when reading so I don't know.
Does anyone know if kindle supports 2 pages in landscape view? Might try them it as well.

I use Orion for PDF books, Adobe for other PDFs. Kindle for purchased books and also .mobi files from smashwords. All work fine on the 10.1 - Orion doesn't have "auto-crop" but you get used to quickly knowing what to set for different publishers, e.g. OReilly.

I use multiple readers--Aldiko, Google Play and Kindle. For those of us in the US, the e-book system used by most public libraries (Overdrive) now makes e-books available in Kindle format. I love checking out e-books from the convenience of home and not having to worry about return dates.

I am a heavy reader and moon reader+ is by far my favorite of any other reader apps I have tried.

moon+ reader! I've used it on my phone for a long time, so I also installed it on the tablet. altough I mostly read comis with perfect viewer now ^^
