This is the new Google map 5. has nothing to do with the update.

"Official change log is as follows:
This system update from Google contains important bug fixes plus the latest version of Maps.
So yea, apart from the usual bug fixes and the latest Google Maps 5.0 app for Android, there is nothing much to look for in this update.
If you haven’t got the OTA update notification yet, you can force your handset to get it by dialing *#*#checkin#*# from the phone dialer to force your phone to prompt you for this Android 2.3.1 update."

wouldn't say force, it just re associates your device with the tower

I noticed a small improvement, maybe others didn't have this issue, but before the update it would usually take a full second after I pushed the power button for the device to wake up. Other than that, it was perfect. Now after the update, it wakes up a lot more quickly. Now it's just perfect!

So I updated my Google Maps to version 3.4.0. Now everytime I try to open Maps, it force closes instantly.
Has anyone else updated and have this problem / not have this problem?

Works fine for me, though I'm getting some odd functionality in Myn's build that I'm using.
Updated as well from Myn's latest build on NAND and got a F/C as well. Earlier version worked fine on the same ROM, so it's certainly the upgrade.

Two different results from Myn's ROM and I'm using Plemen's ROM so I really don't think it's build specific.
Also of note: I read a review just before I updated of someone saying "Does not work, package certificate not signed". I'm going to assume it was a branded Android device, our numbers aren't that huge yet (I would guess)..........soo it would seem that hopefully it's not due to our custom Android config.
My sadistic OCD drive to update forced me to do it despite my better judgement of the review I noticed. OOPS just realized all of our builds don't include Google Maps because of issues with Nav. No maps until Google fixes it now ... ruh roh!
Try turning off GPS in your phone settings.
The first time I updated, I started it and got a phone reboot.
Then I turned GPS off, loaded up Maps, and it loaded fine. Turned GPS on, tried GPS Test, worked fine.
Then I loaded up Maps w/ GPS, worked fine, got a position. So then I figured maybe it's something with GPS initialization. I rebooted my phone and tried again. Maps loaded, but now GPS won't initialize in either GPS Test or Maps. Maps does load.
I think either:
1. Either the new Maps doesn't like something with the way our GPS initializes (seems unlikely as other builds work)
2. Myn has something messed up in his build.
2 is far more likely. Something seems to be hosed in Myn's build. Right now when I boot up my phone, GPS turns on with no applications running.....
GPS works, it just never turns off.
Here's the changelog for 3.4.0..
Starred items synchronized with maps.google.com - access your favorite places from your phone or computer
Search suggestions from your personal maps.google.com history - makes it easy to search for places you've searched for before
Night mode in Google Maps Navigation - automatically changes your screen at night for easier viewing and driving
Pinch-to-zoom functionality: devices will now include a new pinch-to-zoom mechanism in the phone's Browser, Gallery and Maps applications
Something that confuses me is at every website they describe Google Maps as updating the phone with multitouch... I hope this doesn't cause issues for those of us still with resistive screens (Vogue)

I'm sure they put a check somewhere to indicate if the phone supports multi-touch. Not all do.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Yes..... says starting download and then it never starts! Ahhhh whack a mole for devs lol
With the Market now back I downloaded the new Google maps on both the SQSH and NoMoRootFS version of Warm Donut and both worked flawlessly.
No force closes, no loss of GPS signal.
For reference these were both fresh systems with no Google maps loaded previously. [email protected] Warm Donut rls 2.
Perhaps (I am guessing) the market outage had something todo with this? Perhaps there are google web services hosted on the Market servers that the Maps application interacts with?
Try your maps again. If it does fail, uninstall and redownload.

Market back up for me too... redownloaded, even tried jnadke's method of turning off gps, opening up, but still nothing just a force close. I guess I will try reinstalling again tomorrow. Not sure what else to try but I need my maps!
I was able to update Maps, no problem!
You won't believe this, but it worked for me. I am running Myn's Warm Donut, the original release. I am booting from Haret, on ext2 partitions. (Fat32, ext2, ext2) I read all the posts, and decided to update Google Maps anyway. I figured if it didn't work, I was going to upgrade to Myn's Donut release 2. And, it works on the original release. Also, I was able to download The Weather Channel from the Market just before I did the update. I am running at 320 x 480, lcd=160. I wonder if the problem might have anything to do with the new NoMoRootfs builds? I did have my gps turned on when I downloaded the update. After installing, I clicked on "My Location," and it zoomed right in to my actual location, accurate to 4 meters. Sometime this weekend, I'm planning on sorting through my microSDs, backing them up and formatting a couple of them. Then I'll load Myn's release 2 on one and one of the other builds on a different card. I might even get brave enough to unlock my Touch and do a NAND install. (I wish I could do that from LINUX or totally from my SD card...) I'll let you know what happens with the Market.
Ok this is really weird, I installed Myn's build, ran Google Maps and it worked fine, then I played with another build. Google Maps didn't work. I then reinstalled Myn's build and once again it doesn't work...

[Q] How to update to the new Market?

I haven't received any notification for a Market update.
Any clue on how to accomplish this?
I'm currently on VillainROM 2.0.
You won't. Normally Google pushes them to all android phones. But you need to download the file individually.

Hmm, true true. It is indeed a rip-off of the tiles system on WP7. But, I dunno about you, this is refreshing. Hehehe, something about the tiles on my market feels nice!
Another thing - the new market can only download one app at a time, on the old market you could select "update all" so that's another bad thing.

From what I remember, it will hapen and you won't even notice until it's there. One day you will open the market and it will be the new version.
I tried it but I'm unable to download and update a single app. The progression bar is loading but it never starts. I guess I'll wait for an official release.
By the way, does Google automatically updates rooted phones (or phones with a custom ROM), because I'm currently with VilainROM2.0....I thought we had to update manually.

New marketplace bug

Ok so I have the newest marketplace and it has an annoying bug. When I click the install button in the top right before the page of the app has loaded fully (screenshots for example) it will keep saying "loading" and it will not go to the page where I have to confirm my download, till I close the market in the task manager, and then to wait for the whole page to load before clicking install. Anyway to resolve this issue?

try wiping the cache of market through settings if you can
This is a known issue. Its a bug or something in market version 3.1.5. Lots of people on different handsets have it. There is no know fix. Some have reported that clearing the cache helps others not.
The big point to note is that not everyone has this issue. Could be region related or something but its an known issue. Different roms seem to have no effect on the bug. Its been logged somewhere on the google android issues blog thing.
Some people have downgraded the market version and then frozen the market updater (using titanium backup) to stop it from re downloading. The older versions dont seem to have the same issue (they may of course have other issues)
Im personally going to live with it and wait for the next version which i hope fixes it.

why dont you all just downgrade your market till they fix it? anyway there is a new market update 3.1.6
Guys. If you have problems with market you should uninstall updates and use the older one. no problems at all. I allways hated the new market. but I will have to get used to it sooner or later.
I like the new app-market actually. But one time when I uninstalled the updates, it wouldnt update back anymore.. So if I were to go back to the old market till they release an update, how could I update it to that version again.

Hi
I'm also tired of this but. In order to solve problem then it occurs, I use "Fast reboot". It boots the hole phone in 2 seconds, and after that I can use Market again (until next time it hangs) LOL

oh is there sounds good i will have to check it out.
i cant see youtube on mine and im still on 4.1.1
its a shame that you cant have all your apps in multi window without rooting your device and that, pretty annoying tbh.
i think i read you can modify the appone by one but thats long specially if u have to update the app etc n have lots of apps on your device
This is update for those who DIDN'T have 4.1.2 before?
Or is this update an update ON TOP of 4.1.2?
This is the official update for the UK to 4.1.2 as we seem to have been waiting for a long time. Cannot comment on whether it is any different to other countries 4.1.2 but nice to see I can now run standard Android Twitter client as a multi-window app.
Could anyone upload this firmware? I can't download it from kies as im not on official firmware
Might be on sammobile.com...
Not on Sammobile at the moment.
Dont remember seeing lecture notes & papyrus as multi window apps prior to the update today, but they are in the list now for sure.
New apps added with multi-window on my Note are:- Astro File Manager, ChatOn, Chrome, Facebook, Gmail, Google Maps, MX Player, Google Talk, Twitter and YouTube. I know I had Papyrus in 4.1.1 and I think I may have had MX Player but not sure on that one.
Multi-window seems a little difficult to make work sometimes - the multi-window button appears in the bottom right corner on some of these and doesn't always work, seeming to activate whatever is under the button. Also can't see the button anywhere on Papyrus - how does it work on here - this would be really useful for me?
At last youtube and snotes on stock multiwindow!!
and being able too edit which apps and in what order they appear on the multi window bar, this tablet gets better and better

Lads if I used the Exynos exploit root patch to root my 8010 can I just do the OTA update and then the device will return back to stock i.e. not rooted?

I just downloaded the update, I'm gonna leave it charging and updating. :fingers-crossed:
Just updated mine.
Main noticable things are:
- the new notification interface,
- the quick links page allows more icons and has better design, and
- Portrait mode on the camera.
What else called your attention?
Did a factory reset after install. Thought Asus cleaned up pretty well on Nougat for Zenfone 3 but the 3 Zoom's Nougat strips away almost everything. Apps could only get clearer if they replace Memo with Google Keep and not preload Duo.
I think there is more wall papers in wall paper slideshow.
Nougat ZenUI is much better than Marshmallow was.
Greatly appreciate the update. Yes, the UI is still terrible color and design, but Nougat makes this feel tolerable. Especially the ability to remove sooooo much bloat. Glad that I could finally get Google Phone dialer installed and working without the ASUS Call screen. Now if I could set long hold back button to kill I'd be quite happy.
Can you guys get me ota link ?
Use Android Terminal to Run this command
cat /data/data/com.asus.dm/files/tree.xml
Then upload tree.xml from your sdcard
Thanks

Interesting I'm still unable to install Google Phone (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.dialer), stuck with ASUS's app.
Another one that bothers me is the Contacts app. I'm used to Google's stock and I find ASUS option way worse.
Ideas anyone?

My camera app stopped working after the update :\ Even tried resetting it. Other camera apps work fine. Asus support says to reset my phone and otherwise send it in (for a software issue?!). I guess I'll be resetting, but this is the second time support told me to send in the device for a software issue. Can't say I'm impressed.
