Forum Name for "Google" Nexus S - Nexus S General

I've contacted the mod to have this forum changed to "Google" Nexus S from Samsung because like most of you I don't wanna see the name Samsung anywhere here even though I'll still be getting the phone cause it's Google branded.
We never called the Nexus One the HTC Nexus One so if we get enough votes here we'll get it changed. Vote please.

Why not just Nexus S? The Nexus One forum is simply Nexus One.

It's Google when you open it, this one is Samsung which is disgusting lol

I also don't understand why they would name it Samsung Nexus S but then the Nexus One doesn't say HTC Nexus One. It should just be called the Nexus S and be placed under the Nexus One forum.

Current:

Proposed:
Home > Samsung > Nexus S > Nexus S General > Forum Name for "Google" Nexus S
This would make it much easier to jump between similar devices. Galaxy S users tend to like to read the other carrier's threads as they sometimes have useful info.

Why not just ask for a Google forum then? Since Google is going to be making more Nexus devices in the future from the looks of it, it'll be easier to organize and have it all under one root. Otherwise, who the hell cares if it says Samsung on it or not. You're going to have a Samsung phone either way.

"Nexus S" and "Nexus One"
or

or

It should be consistent with the Nexus One forum name.

Stop this **** thread, Samsung Nexus S will remain Samsung Nexus S

No with Google logo?

Why doesn't the vibrant have that?
It has all the google apps?
Because Samsung doesn't feel they have to continually throw Google's name around to get hype.
The phone sells itself.
although that is true, the galaxy s outside of the states has the "powered by Google" or something similar to it. the reason we don't have it on our phones in the states is because they are big on advertising the galaxy s series of phones, and they have a galaxy q series coming out at the end of the year or beginning of next year. they want the galaxy name to be synonymous with great quality
I think the first version had it to get people interested and now they can sell it in the US based on the international versions success.
It's simple: It's not a "Google Experience" phone, like the MT3G or G1 was. It's a "Galaxy S" phone, with TouchWiz3.
Do HTC Sense-based phones have "with Google" or "Google Experience" on them anywhere?

Google shutting down N1 forums

According to Android Central, Google is going to shutdown their Nexus One forums on November 1st, making them Read Only.
Semi-true.
Whilst there is an announcement to that effect, it also tells you where to post afterwards. Basically they're moving them to another section.
Not that they're really N1 specific anyway, there's no mention of N1 in their title anywhere.

I was just wondering that myself....a strange time to do this with Gingerbread right around the corner. Then again it's still the development phone...although even that could change at any time I suppose...no guarantees in life. Doesn't matter to me tho: CM will take care of our Gingerbread needs.
There it goes the "HTC Magic afair" again...
I´s normal that they get better hardware in which develop new features for their OS...
But dismantleying the Nexus crap is against our understanding and negatively impacts on the trust we got in the Google Phone
I was a little bit scared as well when I initially read this, but then I also came to the same realization as MuckenMire; "Why should I be scared?" My N1 is rooted, and as long as people love the N1, there will be plenty of dev's out there to give the latest and greatest and even better than greatest ROM's. Sure, at some point, the phone's hardware will cease to meet the minimum requirements of the then current high performance version of Android, but I hope and am pretty confident that there will be a new phone that is just as easy to mod as the N1 by then.

First of all anything from "an anonymous tipster" has no place being considered as legitimate, even for a rumor. Second, there have been three Android Dev Phones, the ADP1, ADP2, and the Nexus 1. All three of these phones have been manufactured by HTC. Why would they change now? Third, anyone who is keeping up with android news knows the Samsung Continuum is Samsung's next android phone, and it hasn't been announced yet. Also if look at the picture on the event invitation it shows Android icons on top of a stock ticker, one of the callout features of the continuum second screen. Even if i'm wrong about them announcing the continuum Nov. 8'th (which I very well may be) I know that i'm not wrong about them NOT announcing this Nexus 2 or Nexus S or whatever the believers want to call it. The CEO is more likely to get up on stage and poop a unicorn.

You could at least wait until it's released, so then we'll actually know if this will help development. We don't actually know if this thing exists (despite what Gizmodo says) yet or what hardware is inside it (it's not a Galaxy S phone if it's the Nexus Two considering Galaxy S phones have TouchWiz built in), so this is basically not helpful at all.
@OP... I understand why you might have thought this belonged in the Dev section, but the truth is that this is at best, hearsay, and belongs in General.
Thread cleaned & moved to General.
@everyone else... Personally, I have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to flaming and being rude. If you think a post / thread does not belong in a particular section or that it is redundant, use the "Report Post" feature to bring it to my attention instead of starting a war.
KEEP IT CLEAN!
Yeah, just because Gizmodo says "one of our friends" got a hands on with the device doesn't mean it's real. It's all still rumors. I could say my wife's, brother in law's, step brother works for samsung and he said it's going to be the continuum. doesn't make it fact, or even any more likely. I stand by my analysis.

Nexus not getting update directly from Google?

What's this?
http://phandroid.com/2010/12/09/nexus-one-for-vodafone-receiving-android-2-2-1-update/
I thought that Nexus phone will ALWAYS get update directly from Google?
So, if you buy from T-Mobile, there is a chance you need to wait from T-Mobile as well?
I don't get it.
NOTE: Before people shouting that this should be put specifically to the Nexus One forum. I think this is still valid information for us, who will buy Nexus S just because of the Google experience, like the old Nexus One. Hoping to get first update directly from Google when Google releases any new update. Apparently, that might NOT be the case! Well, hope NOT *finger crossed* ...
I cant speak for the rest of the world but US customers always get their updates directly from Google.
I have a Nexus One right now and have gotten 3 over the air updates directly from Google.

you can always root the phone and load the stock built from google. But being an android enthusiast i rarely do OTA as you lose root and have to wait, i rather wait for devs to build new roms or optimize the official roms.
Regardless if the Update is pushed from Google or pushed from Samsung it will be the First phone to get it, quite possible along with the N1 so what does it matter?

haha I just noticed. Well I hope Google will be putting out the Nexus S updates and not Samsung
Wonder if whatever it does get will be OTA, or via Kies like the GS?
Geez ... This is still a valid question for this Nexus S.
Why?
Because there will be a lot of people using "Pure Google" experience reasoning to decide whether to buy Nexus S or not.
Like me, one of the thing that I like with Nexus S is the direct update from Google.
Then I found that is NOT ALWAYS the case! That Nexus One from Vodafone for example.
So, I asked to this forum, probably someone in the know ...
Probably with this, people will know in the future if their Nexus S must wait Vodafone or T-Mobile or God knows who
See? Happy now?

Thoughts of 4.4?

*MOD EDIT* This thread will be used to discuss your thoughts on the KitKat 4.4 update for the HTC One ONLY. This change is to keep the forum as clear as possible and stop similar threads from being created.
Is anyone else disapointed with the new 4.4 KitKat? I was hoping we would get the Nexus 5 homescreen look, with the transparent folders, status bar, new dock design, etc.. Instead our phones look identical to the 4.3 look!! We didn't even get the 4.4 wallpapers the Nexus 5 has!
I read somewhere that Google wanted to 'test' the new launcher on the nexus 5 with feedback and what not before they made it available for everyone.

People should know that unless you get a Google device. That you will get a watered down version of their update from your phone makers/ carriers. If you are rooted I an sure a dev will make a rom that has all the goodies you posted in wanting.

How is the update "watered down"? On every device except the Nexus 5, there is no google experience launcher with the update(this problem can easily be solved by doing a search on google). Otherwise, it's a full fledged update that has everything that Kitkat offers.

Does it have everything that the nexus 5 does? I will say that's a big no. So it's watered down from what Google released. Sure you can add in what's missing but still doesn't change the fact that HTC omitted certain features of kit Kat. So I stand by my statement of watered down.

HTC didnt omit anything, Google did. Other than that everything else seems to be there. Dialer search is working. ART, which I found not to make much of a difference is working if you're using an odexed rom. We have different definitions of watered down which is fine, but to me that would imply an array of features missing not just one. Technically the experience launcher is already there, it just needs the apk for it to be enabled as it's rooted within the search app. Everything points to Google releasing the launcher apk in the play store soon.

What? HTC didn't omit a single thing. The HTC One got EVERYTHING the Nexus 4, 7, and 10 got.
It's more accurate to say the Nexus 5 got an enhanced version, even compared to the rest of the Nexus line from Google, and we got the standard version. I'm sure the Nexus 5 launcher will hit the play store soon though and then we can all officially have the full enhanced version of KitKat.

Nope. I had a GS4 for a week, before it was returned for my One.
Installing the GEL apk from the dozens of links on xda will fix all the things that you listed. The new Nova beta also has all these features except the "Okay Google" feature.
Thanks for suggesting the GEL.apk going to do it right now.
I guess people should look up the video to when the Nexus 5 was announced......there were "exclusive" features for that phone. If you question the definition of exclusive, then place your phones down and pick up a dictionary.
