Galaxy 3 and tethering report @ firmware JP9 - Galaxy 3 General

You guys can find those function inside settings => Wireless and network
- USB tethering => WORK OK windows 7 32bit TESTED.
- Mobile AP => did not work client can not get IP from i5800 so no internet.
same result testing with Wifi Tethering (same function as Mobile AP) this soft can work somehow with i5700 Spica
anyboday get better result using Mobile AP or Wifi Tethering (pls search Market for this app)?

I got the wifi tethering work. Well, accidentally though because whenever I try to use the wifi tethering, I am running JP9 too. This could be one of the nasty JP9's bug. Oh yeah, another thing. whenever I turn off the Mobile AP, the status bar indicator still appear.

WiFi Tethering issue

Trying to use Wifi Tether (google) app in rooted Vibrant (http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list?can=2&q=NexusOne)
Everything setup correct and works good on the phone itself. Laptop shows the connection as 'computer-to-computer' network rather than 'wireless network'. Although signal strengh is very good laptop just says "waiting for network..." and never connects. How to change Wifi Tether setting to show as 'wireless network' instead of 'computer-to-computer' network so that it will connect?
You should load the mobile AP patch instead. Works much better than the wifi tether app on the vibrant.

thanks for replying guys..i went to the mobile AP flash thread and read that you have to do clockwork recovery to flash it. I think when froyo update happens its gonna disable mobile AP flash?? I see people saying (and even Youtube videos) of using Wifi tether and Barnacle wifi legacy to tether from Vibrant. I tried both of them and they show as 'compter-to-computer' network on laptop and it wont connect.
You should delete everything & start from the beginning. If that doesn't work then try it on someone else laptop to see if that's the problem if not is your phone. Maybe is a problem the way u rooted your phone. If it continues doing it on the other laptop u are testing it. Most deff is your phone.
Froyo has wireless AP built in by default. We have yet to know if T-mobile will disable it. If they do, someone will just hack it back in.
Interesting. I prefer wireless tether. I think it works much better than the MobileAP.
So this turns out to be an issue with my laptop. Laptop is not able to connect to ad-hoc (computer to computer) wifi networks. Both wifi tethering app and Barnacle worked on a friends laptop. Got around 2 Mbps from T-mobile 3G.
I did have to update the driver for the wireless chip on one laptop to support ad-hoc networks, but it was worth it. If you're interested, check your wireless chip manufacturer's site for a newer driver.
The TMO sales-droids told me that the froyo update would enable the wireless hotspot (MobileAP), but who knows till we actually get it. Even if it does, if it works like the MobileAP does now, I'll continue using wireless-tether.

MobileAP didn't work for me. Win7 showed no internet activity.
Wireless Tether on the other hand worked perfectly, so YMMV.
Does anyone has a problem while using mobile AP while the connection is steady but after the screen dims or locks up the speed slows down and sometimes cut off the tether to the device? would there be anyway around this?

That did the trick! Thanks mate
I have a question about tethering I'm trying to use the wifi for my gaming console (ps3). It doesn't recongize the ip address. So will it recongize it when the update comes or will it not work for gaming consoles.

maybe a dumb question but i rooted girl's vibrant and flashed mobileAP which worked great the first day. i couldnt get barnacle or google's wireless tether to actually connect to anything. But now she's trying to use it today and it won't connect due to DNS issues. Would it be the phone at fault or the laptop? I already tried refreshing the IP using command prompt but it didn't help.

[Q] Tethering & Portable Hotspot

I currently running darkstone HD2Froyo v2.1 kernel 2.6.32.9 on my HTC HD2. I have tried activating the portable wi-fi hotspot on my phone but I get an error message. However, I have been able to enable the USB tethering on my Windows 7 64bit system, but its requesting a network password to enable internet access.
Does anyone know if portable wi-fi hotspot can be enabled with this android build and what password to use to enable the USB tethering?
Thanks in advance.
Similar problem
I am not sure what build I have on, been running it for a week. But I experienced a similar problem when i tried setting up a mobile hotspot this morning.
If you go into portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Advanced you can change the channel. Mine doesn't work at all when it is set to Auto. If I change the channel then the hotspot begins and i can detect it using my iPad. But then my phone restarts.
I haven't had much time to play with it as I am at work. But I will play around some more tonight. Still it might be worth changing the channel and seeing if it works or does the same thing as me
Good luck
Hi on the darkstone website it says:
Whats not working:
- Wifi Tethering
But also says:
Whats working:
........(amongst other things ) ......
- USB Tethering
Sure enough if I try wifi tethering it just reboots the phone, however like you I am having no luck with USB tethering it simply just dosen't connect , I am having to tether via WINMO as I write this , I did try some software off the market , but it requires a 'rooted' android phone and I am not sure wether android on an HD2 is or can be made to be rooted , anyway , anyone successfully got usb tethering working its a pain to reboot phone when I need the internet

Android wifi tether

Hi All,
I wondering if someone can help me out. I rooted my epic and installed the latest android wifi tether and everything seems to be going okay as I am able to start tether and see the normal tether screen displaying Download 0.4kB and Upload of 0.3kB.
However i am not able to see connect correctly on my laptop. In the laptop, under wireless network connections, i see EpicTether (which i choose as the ssid) but the icon (right of the word EpicTether) looks different than the icons from my home wifi router. The EpicTether's icon is three blue boxes in the shape of a triangle where my home wifi shows the normal guage of wifi connectivity strength. I am using windows 7 premium by the way.
I've tried changing the channels on the epic, tried enable access-control under settings to no avail...
can someone please help? thanks.
Android WiFi tether is an Ad-Hoc network (device to device), not an infrastructure network like your home wifi is. That's why the icon is different.
Why it cannot connect could be 1000000 different things. Is the laptop part of a company domain and its possible that policies are preventing connection to an AdHoc type connection?
Thanks for the explanation. so that icon is normal.
My laptop is not a company laptop, it is pretty basic for home surfing use.

"pretty basic" to me translates as "should connect" lol. Not sure where you should go from there. I have heard lots of windows 7 ad hoc issues though. Search around google for "Windows 7 cant connect to ad hoc" and see what kind of fixes you see.
Thanks again.... made some success...
i read that the intel drivers for the internal wireless card may need updated drivers for the ad-hoc....
installed the new drivers and am able to connect now!... but will not provide me internet access.
Restart the computer (usually works most times), and or try releasing and renewing I.P address.

Win7 Laptop Wi Hotspot tablet problems

Hello. First of all I want to apologize for my bad English... I'm still learning it. Second of all, this problem is appearing on any device I try to connect to my PC's Wifi Hotspot, but to be specific:
- Huawei Ascend Y511
- Samsung Galaxy Y (GT5360, not really sure for that one, I don't have access to check the exact model)
- Vonino Sirius QS (Tablet)
- Prestigio Quantum Multipad 4 (9.7" / Tablet)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab3 8.0
- Samsung Galaxy S4 / S5
- LG G Flex
(I have a hobby to collect different phones and tablets, yeah... it's crazy I know )
Recently I installed Windows 7 on my laptop because the old windows XP was bugged completely... The only working components were the browser and the Bluetooth (Which is not working currently). First of all I tried to start a wifi hotspot from the networking and sharing center that comes with Windows 7, but I couldn't manage to do so. So I went to another option - softwares that enable the Wifi Hotspot on your laptop. The best result I got was Connectify, but I don't have the funds to buy it, so I used it temporarly (a week or so), and then it stopped working (Ethernet Sharing problems). Since then all the softwares I tried are starting the Wifi Hotspot, but when I try to connect every device gets stuck at "Obtaining IP Adress...". I tried looking for solutions, but I couldn't find anything that helps. I tried setting the IP adress to automatically obtain IP adress (The one in the change adapter settings tab in Control Panel), but then the network itself does not want to work. I ran out of ideas on how I can fix this...
Just some additional info: The local area connection is shared and the wifi is allowed, also the WLAN Autoconfig service is working properly.
Refresh IP

Try checking your IP Configuration and refresh the IP In the Windows Internet and Sharing Center.

Did that many times, but didn't work. I just hate Windows 7... it's the worst windows for network adapters -.-

[Problem] Wifi Hotspot without internet connection

Since the last official update I'm always having problems when I turn on my wifi hotspot to use my other phone with the Zenfone Zoom Data.
When I turn it on it doesn't work, my connected devices show "no connection" when connected to the wifi hotspot, I manage to get it working always swearing while I reset the wifi and data settings, I turn on and off the data and the wifi hotspot. Sometimes I have to go to the VPN and re-tap on the correct VPN in use (that is already selected) and then the connection will stat working on my connected devices. Often I have to repeat those steps many times.
The other weird thing is that when I'm using the Zoom S as wifi hotspot, the connection on the phone itself stop working. It works only on the connected devices.
Never had those problems with previous android phones I had (several Nexus, a Note 3 and an Ulefone Power). I use the wifi hotspot really often since I still use my Note 3 and this is really frustrating.
EDIT Maybe I posted this in the wrong section. My mistake sorry. If some mod can move this I'll be glad.
try adding ",dun" to the access point types under the APN settings. I had a similar issue that fixed it.
Last week I used my Asus 3 Zoom to give my laptop internet by Wifi hotspot. Worked flawlessly.
