[Problem] Wifi Hotspot without internet connection - Asus ZenFone 3 Zoom Questions & Answers

Since the last official update I'm always having problems when I turn on my wifi hotspot to use my other phone with the Zenfone Zoom Data.
When I turn it on it doesn't work, my connected devices show "no connection" when connected to the wifi hotspot, I manage to get it working always swearing while I reset the wifi and data settings, I turn on and off the data and the wifi hotspot. Sometimes I have to go to the VPN and re-tap on the correct VPN in use (that is already selected) and then the connection will stat working on my connected devices. Often I have to repeat those steps many times.
The other weird thing is that when I'm using the Zoom S as wifi hotspot, the connection on the phone itself stop working. It works only on the connected devices.
Never had those problems with previous android phones I had (several Nexus, a Note 3 and an Ulefone Power). I use the wifi hotspot really often since I still use my Note 3 and this is really frustrating.
EDIT Maybe I posted this in the wrong section. My mistake sorry. If some mod can move this I'll be glad.

try adding ",dun" to the access point types under the APN settings. I had a similar issue that fixed it.

Last week I used my Asus 3 Zoom to give my laptop internet by Wifi hotspot. Worked flawlessly.

Wi-fi not working

After connecting to 3 different wireless connections and none of then working, I'm concluded that my wifi isn't working.
I go to settings and check wifi on, it finds the network, connects, but I lose my entire data connection for the duration wifi is turned on!
Is anyone else having this problem?
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant
I'm having the same issues with the wifi. I downloaded wifi analyzer to make sure I was on a good channel. Set it to the best channel and my signal strength is 100%. I will be able to connect for a little bit but for some reason it goes in and out, connection unsuccessful, yada yada yada. I messed with all the troubleshooting solutions for my router (dgl-4300) but nothing works. If anyone can reply with a fix or point me in the right direction, that would be greatly appreciated.
Same Issues
Any help is greatly appreciated. Data working fine when on 3G but Wifi = no data. Connection is fine, IP is fine.
UPDATE: It's working again on my home WIFI. Will have to see if it's just an "at work" issue. Hopefully IT can assist.
Same problem with Verizon MiFi
I have had ZERO problems connecting to the Linksys access points we have setup at my home and my office, but recently my work provided me with a Verizon MiFi (as well as an iPad - don't hate ) and I've had MANY issues trying to get my Vibrant to consistently connect to the MiFi.
My iPad, Motorola Droid, and Laptop have no issues connecting to the MiFi.
On my Vibrant I'm running the 2.1 stock ROM with root & the latest ClockWork recovery.
It will "connect" to the MiFi (I use quotes because I can't really tell - it AT LEAST receives an IP). But I'm unable to send and receive data. I can't even browse to the MiFi's internal configuration page .
To FINALLY get it to connect consistently I have to do some kind of random combo toggling the wifi off and back on and then turning the MiFi off and back on and it will EVENTUALLY connect and stay connected with data flowing freely.
I've customized my configuration a little bit on the MiFi so I'm going to reset it back to factory and not change the config to see if it makes a difference - because at lunch I was able to connect to my boss' MiFi with no problem. I'm thinking it may either be the phone or the mifi...
I've connected to about 10 different wireless networks with NO issues, at all. The connectivity is actually much better than my G1/Nexus.
HOWEVER, last night at a bar I was connected to their wifi, strong signal, but I was not able to use Data. I was in a very poor reception area for T-Mobile... don't think that could be an issue, bit the other places I use wi-fi that is not the case.
I just chalked it up as a fluke and moved on. Not sure what was wrong.
I had this happen to me today. I just rebooted and it went away. Toggling wifi didn't help, but I only tried it once. The phone reboots so quick I figured I'd give it a try.
I have set the phone up manually with static ip. Seems like its a problem with the dhcp.

WLAN-connection hanging every 30 mins

I got my 7.7 yesterday. All is working great, but about every 30 minuttes of use, the WLAN-connection hangs. The WLAN-icon stays lit, but the tab is not able to send/receive data. To get it to work again, I have to disable WLAN and then enable again. It then works for about 30 more minuttes.
I have not installed any task-killers or battery-enhancers etc..
The router is a D-Link DIR 555. I use several PCs and Phones on the same router without losing connections ever. Encryption-type is WPA2.
Any ideas?
Bro here is the same problem really confusing me evrytime the wlan disconnects.
Have you checked that your WLAN settings do not put the tablet wifi to sleep ?
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Wi-Fi settings -> Wi-Fi sleep policy
I'm having the same problem here, and my wifi policy is set to never, so when that happens I have to turn off/on wifi.. not good!.
I have the LTE version, but am running it without a data plan. I have the same issue with WIFI. The connection will hang after 30min to an hour of use. It is VERY annoying. I ran Speedtest, and i get an interesting result, over wifi i get a very fast download speed (15+Mb/s) but my upload totally hangs. It just sits there. On the same wifi, with my Galaxy Nexus, i have no problem with download or upload.
I've seen several threads across the internet about the problem, and no one seems to really know why. Some people say you need to change settings in your router, and it isnt the Galaxy 7.7's fault, but, i don't know if I buy that. I have the same problem at the Airport, and, i cannot exactly go and change the router config there. I am hoping that there will be an update to the firmware for the wireless radio, either separate or with ICS.
WIFI Problems Solved!!!
Hi,
I had the annoying wifi problem. It would work really fast for a few minutes and decide to stop working all of a sudden.
I fixed the problem by setting the maximum Router output to 54mbps G. Seems like the galaxy tab 7.7 does not like the N settings.
Now it works flawlessly and I will just use it at G speeds until Samsung provides an update. (I really do not notice the difference in speeds between G and N. Just the peace of mind that it will work every time.)
I hope that solves some of the other users' problems.

Switch back to cellular when wifi has no internet, but keep wifi connected

tl;dr: When my phone (Sony Xperia Z5 compact, Android 6) connects to a wifi with no internet, I want to use the local network on the wifi but use the internet from my mobile data. Instead what happens mobile data doesn't switch back on while connected to wifi with no internet.
I have been trying to find a solution for this since forever. My camera creates a local wifi connection which I can connect to to view the camera as well as controlling it. The downside is that while connected to this network my cellular data gets switched off, despite this wifi network not having any internet. So while using my camera I have no way to access the internet. It wasn't a huge problem up until recently when the app I use is introducing livestreaming. I really want to use it but I am unable to find any way how to keep my phone connected to this wifi network (and being able to use it), while any internet data goes over 4G. I am using android 6.0.1. I am quite sure I was able to do this on my previous phone with an older Android version but I cannot find said option (smart network switch or something?) anymore in the wifi settings. Nor any recent similar topics with people with the same question? Anyone that knows more about this?
My phone is rooted. If I need to do any system changes I can do that.
I didnt get what you were trying saying.Do you know that you cant use mobile data and wifi simultaneously unless your device is rooted. If your phone is rooted then try using "download booster"

Err, sorry, lol. I have wifi network that has no internet, just a local network. I'd like to be connected to that wifi network AND be able to use internet over my mobile data both at the same time. As it is right now, my mobile data gets disabled even when the wifi network has no internet access.
I have talked to two friends of mine about it and both say this is already possible in Android. One friend sent me a screenshot of an option he has in his wifi settings called 'Switch to mobile data' which gets enabled when the wifi network has no internet. My other friend said he doesn't have this option but claims it has been a default feature of Android since lollipop. He tested it on his phone and indeed it works as expected. Both have an unrooted phone with stock Android. So now there is me with my brand new phone and Android 6 and I can't find this option nor does it seem to do what I want by default. I'm confused.
As I mentioned, my phone is rooted so if there is a way to turn this feature on using root, I can totally do that if someone knows how.
As i said try using "Download Booster" It allows you to use wifi and mobile data at the same time just google it.

That appears to be just a download manager if I am correct? I don't need to download anything. I just want to be able to use my existing apps to use my mobile internet when I am connected to wifi (that has no internet).
This is the exactly the thing I'm after. Screenshot from my friend's phone (LG G4 with Android 6.0): (*link removed). My other friend who also has this functionality working has a Nexus 5 with Android 6.0.1.
* Forum doesn't let me post screenshots.. But basically in his wifi settings he has an option called "Switch to mobile data". The box says "Internet unavailable via connected Wi-Fi. Stay connected to Wi-Fi, but use mobile data. Data charges may apply."
Again, I have Sony Xperia Z5 compact with Android 6.0.1 and I can't find this. Have I bought the wrong phone or is it fixable? At this point I am more than happy to even take a custom rom route.
You cannot use wifi and internet at the same time as they are completely different hardware components, using different air waves, so there's no conflicts between them. Better use internet through your wifi or use bluetooth tethering. As for the "switch to mobile data option" it disconnectes you from your wifi if it has no internet and connects you to your mobile data so it doesnt lets you use your wifi and mobile data at the same time

It actually clearly mentions that it keeps connected to the wifi. He tested it and indeed he could use the local network on the wifi side and use the internet through his mobile data simultaneously. Both friends haven't rooted their phones or anything. This is just a default functionality for them. I have now tested it also on my older phones (Oneplus One and HTC One M8) and all phones can't have both connections open at the same time.
This wifi network is created by my camera by the way and I can't change much about it. The DJI drone I control does the same thing. When I am connected to the camera or drone I lose my mobile internet connection.
I don't have any other device that has access to internet here. We don't have cabled internet, only mobile internet.
Interestingly, in the developers options there is an option called "Mobile data always active" ("Always keep mobile data active, even when Wi-Fi is active"). I've tried it many times, rebooted my phone but this doesn't actually do anything. Even with this option on when wifi is connected the mobile data gets turned off.
This is beyond annoying!
I too have struggled to find a solution to this problem. I do not have a WAN connection to my home network. It is LAN only. I have four PC's, three Sonos speakers, two hdhomerun TV tuners, and various hand held devices that all use the LAN. All I want to do is be able to use my Moto X Pure to control Sonos and file sync to my LAN via wifi and simultaneously use mobile data for WAN stuff. I know the mobile connection is active with wifi enabled because I can see it when running if config, up route show etc... I am trying to learn about the routing tables to see if I can fix this myself. I love my android devices and am loyal, but this is beyond dumb! Any suggestions????
How to fix for android
okay so for anyone who doesnt know still go into the about phone option in your phone settings, then click on kernel version, build model, etc til one pops up with a flash notification saying click so many more times and youll become a dev. once you done that go into the developer menu and scroll too wifi assist or force mobile data upon wifi connection. exit out , open your app , bobs your uncle
Thank you for the answer.
I tried with my Huawei but it doesn't work. Could you tell with which phone you made it work ? Thank you !!
Ok here we go, after 12 years this my first post.
Above suggestions related with developer options nothing to do with OPs requirement. Those option only allows the device rapidly switch to mobile data when the WiFi signal gets weak. Since you always close to your DSLR camera it solves nothing because WiFi signal is always strong.
Root cause of the problem is you can not have 2 default gateways (i.e. router address) for your networks in any operating system (Actually you can but you have to set static routes, which is a pain in the ass for regular users)
iOS handles this in a very simple way. Set your wifi connection to static IP address instead of DHCP and leave your default gateway or router address blank. Viola you can have 3G/LTE data while you connected your camera and now you can sent your downloaded pictures via Whatapp while you still connected to your camera via WiFi. (In my case Panasonic Lumix)
I stumbled upon this thread via Google since I needed the same thing now with Android. But iOS way failed. Actually I am shocked that you cannot leave WiFi Gateway address blank in Androdid 8.0! Save button grays out if you leave it blank. This is really weird. At least with Galaxy S8 Duos with Android 8.0
So anybody know how to setup a WiFi network without a default gateway, please share.
Is this phone specific or something? Never had that happen, I have no problem with wifi being on without internet and using cell data.
I don't think the UI really exposes anything like it directly but you can technically have multiple gateways; it's not something your average user will understand (policy routing)..
Having said that, if you're attached to an AP you should at least see a /24 route out your wireless interface (standard dhcp lease). It's quite common for the AP to have client isolation but are you sure you're not using something like Wifi Direct or even adhoc?
Similar Experience
I have been through this experience long ago. All I did was to sell the phone and bought a new one.

Hotspot Connectivity Issue

Facts: Rooted, Verizon Unlimited Data, Lollipop 5.0 BPB1
When I'm at work, college, and try to connect my laptop to the hotspot, the connection either does not happen or is disconnected/reconnects within seconds or half a second. I cannot maintain a constant connection, even when manually adding my laptop MAC address.
I have done some troubleshooting and found that the issue is not with my laptop and I only have this issue when I'm at campuses for my institution(2 campuses 40 miles apart). I have reflashed my ROM (to make sure something that might have changed was fixed) and still have this issue. I've also turned on the hotspot, ran a wifi analyzer on my laptop, and changed the broadcast channel as I saw my hotspot had the same channel as the college visitor & guest wifi, but this didn't help either. I am able to tether via USB to my computer, but would prefer to use the hotspot function as tethering uses up a USB port.
This is a very frustrating issue and any help/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Galaxy Tab A 8-inch (SM-T350) Wifi/internet issues

Hi everyone!
Recently, I bought my mother a Galaxy Tab A 8-inch device (Model Number SM-T350) and it theres an issue where the device seems to be connected to her Wifi network, but after a while, she is not able to browse the internet or use Viber. The Wifi Network shows connected. But after a specific time, when she needs to use Viber, she cannot connect to the internet even though the network is connected to her Wifi network.
Its not only Viber, but she cannot browse the internet using Firefox or the native browser.
The only way to resolve this is by turning ON/OFF the Wifi.
We tried a number of things like Setting the Sleep options to Never disconnect from Wifi, resetting the router, and so forth...
I tried updating the device but it seems like that this unit only goes up to Android 6.0..1. There is no security software that I know of installed on the device either. I checked the router settings as well and all devices going through that router are not Blacklisted. So all devices can pass or connect to the network. No MAC address filtering turned ON, it is OFF. But these settings are irrelevant to the issue in question, as the device Wifi shows status as Connected...
This is quite a "PITTY" situation as her Viber contacts cannot even call her either because of this issue.
To recap or to sum it up on the issue, is that after a while the internet does not seem to work on the device even though its connected to her Wifi network.
My mother does not have any other devices at her home.
I wonder if this is an Android bug or there is an issue with our router?
The router in question is a Cisco WRVS4400N if this helps.
Thanks
Bump. I have the same issue with my Tab A 6.

How old is there router
I have a similar problem with the Samsung Galaxy tablet a. My version is SM-T350. When I 1st got it a few years ago, everything worked great and I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi no problem. However, I believe that was after an update, the tab A will no longer connect to the Internet in less it is sitting right next to the router. Even this can be sketchy. It has to be within 2" to connect. I don't think it has anything to do with the router, but something with the internal Wi-Fi. I was thinking before when I wouldn't be able to connect it I had to select WEP instead of WPA
