Bricked focus... - Focus General

Yesterday it got a little flakey. I had to reboot a couple times when the marketplace stopped working. Now I am stuck at a samsung logo any time I turn it on. Ive done the hard reset...

I had it happen to me too, and all I did was insert a 32GB Class 2 Sandisk card two days before it bricked.

Were you playing around in the Diagnostic Menu?

Someone posted a way on how to do a complete hard reset (not the one in the manual). But i think you may have to access the WP7 software.

Yea, its in the phone, but you need access to the software as you said.

happened to me on the mytouch with CM6, i simply accessed the bootloader and put on a new ROM, im not sure if this is much help in your case but if you can access the bootloader screen you should be fine...

Do you have a sd card
Do you have a seperate sd card if so remove it then do a hard reset.

Brand new Trinity freezes on soft reset (Green Windows Mobile screen)?

I received my new P3600 last night and played around with it a little. I installed quite a few apps on to the storage card.
Now, what happens is that when I soft reset the device, it keeps on freezing at the green page saying (Windows Mobile - Direct Push Technology). last night I have seen the little spinning thing, now I dont even see this anymore.
Does anyone have the same problem? I am about to return to the device to the seller but want to make sure that really is a device problem rather then anything else.
Any experience with this?
take the manual or use the search for hard reset

well, I keep resetting and eventually the device does start up (out of 10 resets, it works 3 times).
I am wondering though if i should return this one asap. I have had a few devices over the years but never seen a problem like this.
Is resetting a known problem for P3600's?
The error was not the device but one of the applications, I installed.
Glad you're sorted!
Which app was it- as a warning for other users to avoid?

Mine has just done it now. Apparently it is usually an application on the device that is causing problems. I would guess something along the lines of a today plug in or similar.
Trinity Rox
I've had my trinity now for about 2 months.
I just did a hard reset using the clear storage option on a WM6 rom I installed. I ran the "miniSD HC v3.1.zip" fix but my 512 card just vanished on boot up. Came back and saw the card, No problems. A word of warning before you start toying with your new Phone. put "PPCPimBackup" on your storage card and backup all your contacts etc. This app is a life saver.
Hello,
I have the same problem.
What to do?
just boght the p3600 and after using it 2 days i cant restart it.
its stuck whene the screen shows Windows mobile detect push technology.
what to do?
i have WM 5

SD card warning

I made the mistake of popping the memory card out while it was turned on. I figured it wouldn't be a huge deal and I could reboot the phone after putting it back in. Well needless to say I was wrong. It's pretty much a factory reset phone now and doesn't recognize the sd card.
It even says the total storage available is 15.73 MB. I just did a factory reset from the about menu and the same thing. Not sure what to make of this, but will report back if I can get it going again.

Might try the "Volume down" key;camera and power button at same time..... this might be a more dramatic "Hard reset" Keep us informed....

I saw that in the quick start guide right before you posted it. I tried it with the memory card inserted and no luck. I tried it without the memory and it worked. Then I had to do it again after inserting the memory card and I'm back to 22.15GB. Selecting "reset phone" from the about menu did not work with the memory in OR out. So yes, that method must be a little more "dramatic".
Moral of the story: Do like the instructions say, Do NOT remove the memory card while it's turned on or turn it on without it in the phone. I guess there's always one person who has to figure this out for everyone else
I still think it's weird it reported 15.73MB of total storage...
Thanks for the lesson!
Glad I could take one for the team. Now to get everything reinstalled and setup

So is that key combination (volume down key, camera and power button) a hard reset?
Just want to know so I can add it to the wiki

Yes, that's correct.
Well I did a soft reset with the sd still in and never removed. Back to 15.73 MB total storage and no settings or apps saved. This appears to be why AT&T says not to use an SD card yet...
I too suffered total memory loss by powering down the phone. only hard reset worked.
Also, when I followed the quick setup guide first time I got " (Download Screen!) Don't turn off may take up to 10 minutes."
I let it run for 30 before finding more specific directions on AT&T forums.

Not only is my 16GB not cooperating with the phone/OS, it is not detected by the PC, can't even reformat it. Any suggestions on force detection/formating? Other wise I have to hope for a update to allow my memory to work. The phone is still able to reformat the flash, gives me around 22.8GB available storage. But if it shuts down it deletes everything, goes to about 15GB available storage.
*Also, Netflix, Youtube, Zune all had errors after first hard reset with the memory inserted. Would't play video.
Apparently the same issue here learning the hard way as well. Ordered a Transcend 8gb microSDHC class 6 card from Amazon (excellent reviews) to have in time for the Windows Phone 7 launch.
Purchased my Samsung Focus yesterday at 9am sharp when they opened the doors, installed the card in the phone before we did the first power up to ensure I wouldn't have to set up things twice (doing a reset or hard reset), not reading the instructions we went on to setup everything including my live account, Facebook, e-mail accounts (exchange, gmail), and downloading apps from the marketplace. Only at lunch 4 hours late I discover under settings, about phone I only have 7.46gb of storage space (meaning the card wasn't setup).
Read the manual at this point and did the full hard reset (volume -, camera, power button) which prompted me to hit the windows key twice to perform hard format / reset. Phone booted with the welcome screen and all the prompts again, went to check under settings, about phone and saw to my relief 14.46gb of storage space meanings all was well. Started reloading everything, set up everything, installed a ton of apps and got everything pretty good. Figured with battery low I would turn the thing off and do a full charge overnight (bad idea).
The simple power down (goodbye! screen) seemed innocent at the time until i decided to boot my phone back up only to have nothing and all my apps missing. Checked settings and about phone only to find 15.36mb of storage or something like that! Ended up doing a reset under the settings followed by a hard format / reset again to bring myself back to a factory welcome screen and 14.46gb of storage under settings about phone.
Since settings back up I'm afraid to power down until we find out the issue behind this. I don't think it's due to "incompatible" microSDHC cards as they are all the same things (class variances) and this card was bought brand new packaged from Amazon (with excellent reviews might I add) so that rules out the Chinese knock off eBay microSD card.
Hopefully we'll see an OTA fix for this or something, my friend "says" he doesn't have any issues with his Sandisk 32gb class 2 microSDHC that he bought at the ATT store with the phone. He "says" he's powered it down multiple times without losing anything or any other weird oddities though I'm not sure he initialized the card before he powered it up and down.

I've tried three different cards and all of them give me the same result. After a reset I lose everything and have to hard reset again.

All different brands as well? I can strike this Transcend, his is a Sandisk. I'm going to have him power it down with the power button and turn it back on after work today to see if his loses everything. I really hope there is some fix in the works that doesn't require you to shutdown or change something resulting in setting everything back up yet again lol.

Well just had my friend call me back after getting ATT to add back his messaging plan (the turned off his text messaging, explains why he wasn't replying to texts lol). After making the changes on his account he had to turn the phone off and back on, no issues came right back up with all his goodies, reading about 40gb of storage (he bought a 32gb class 2 SanDisk right there at the ATT store).
So apparently these things are very very picky with cards? idk.
AT&T rep had me walk through the setup at the store when I bought it. I didn't have the microsd card with me so I installed it when I got home (Kingston 16 GB Class 4). After powering on the phone it didn't see the card. I completed a reset in the Settings and About. After the it worked. I never completed a full hard reset (volume -, camera, power button). I have turned it off and on several times. Wonder if that is anything?? Just need to complete the reset and not the full reset. Also mine was brand new too.

I'm sure we will all lose everything in conjunction with the fix, whatever it is. Small price to pay to have our phones working 100% as we want them.
Well my friends Focus with the Sandisk 32Gb class 2 card he got from the ATT store just went blank. He said he phone locked up on him, upon restart he said everything was gone (all 25gb of synced music!).
So honestly I say listen to Microsoft and go no SD card until there is a fix/patch along with a compatible card list.
Update: friend powered off the phone and reseated his micro sd card and it seems all is well now though his contacts are missing information like its not updating or populating right. His phone did show "15mb" under storage when it was blanked like everyone else.
Update 2: looks like it unlinked all his contacts from Google and Facebook, strange strange. Not worth the storage space to me if its hit or miss right now, works one minute then boom your reseating your sd card and fiddling.

[Q] focus 7 problem

hello all,
last week I bought the samsung focus from the US. (i am from Austria by the way..) and the first 3 days were absolute great and I was happy about my new samsung. but on the 4th day the phone shut down all the time, I cant stop it.
now when I start the phone I can only see "Samsung" and dark colour. this picture belongs to hours and hours. nothing happens.
I don't know what I can do, I have already tried it with the "hard reset" and a "micro SD" because I have heared that this 2 options can help.
But it doesnt work
Can anybody help me with this problem?
or knows anybody when there will be a new update?
I am going crazy because of this situation....

Did you have a microSD card installed in the phone before the phone started rebooting?
Tussi1 - it's me again.. forgotten the password...
thanks for your comment!!
When I get the phone without microSD and I have started it without it. and everything works well the first 2-3 days.
I bought the mircoSD when I saw that I can't start the phone anymore. Because I read a lot that such a microSD can help when you this problem with samsung focus. I bought 2 different types (different GB's) but nothing works.
It was a 4 GB sanDisk and a 8 GB kingstonDisk. Both doesn't work!
As I already wrote there is only the SAMSUNG design on the dark display...
do you think I need a other microSD for rebooting it?
thanks!!!

At this point I would just take it back and exchange it. Sounds like more work than it's worth dealing with.
Did you format the SD card?
I realize you can't get past the boot screen currently but WP7 is notorious for SD card incompatibility.
Also, have you attempted to boot the phone while connected to a PC?
If these attempts fail, a return may be your only option but how feasible is it to return a phone to the US from Austria?
I believe you need to remove the SD Cards and do a complete reformat. I ran into the same issue after using an incompatible SD Card. Pull the Card, Turn OFF the phone by holding Power Button when NOT connected to power. Hold down Volume Down, Power button, and Camera button whilst the phone is off. That will make it turn on and ask if you want to format.
I believe that was it. Anyone know different?

[Q] HELP: 15mb storage, hard resets, no results, one month no phone!

Hey I put up a post and no one seems to be able to help me curious if you can:
I put a 32gb micro sd card class 2 sandisk into a samsung focus and it is now stuck on 15mb memory (not a new problem to this forums).
Everyone's solution on this forum is to reset the phone and start over, however its been a month now and no single reset has changed the phone from 15mb back to 8gb. There are no at&t apps either the phone is bare and can only make calls pretty much.
I have done both resets in many combinations of plugged and not plugged in. I have done the 3 button reset and the menu reset. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated?
you never did mention if you took the card out...
well the card is out now, i originally tried to reformat every which way with the card in now it is removed. Any other questions that might help? any suggestions?
Would jailbreaking the phone help reset it? can it be jailbreaked in that state? and how the hell do you jailbreak ha?
well now that the card is out do the vol down, camera, power format....
i have done that alot and no result. Am i missing something about reseting?
I have done the 3 button format, about menu format, and also long press on the power button. I have done these in many combinations to no avail.
Is the phone complete garbage? Can i get it replaced by samsung?
Your phone is toast. This is what happened to me when I tried using a 32GB Class 2 Sandisk card. If you bought yours from AT&T or whatever, you should be able to walk in, show them the phone is bricked, and get a replacement. I'm not sure how it will play out if you bought it through other means.
what about buying a new one and returning few days later the broken one, will they know its a different phone?
I'm not sure, but why wouldn't you bring it in? You should be reasonably covered, support-wise. They have no way of knowing that you used a card.

yes they track the phones by the s/n and the imei.
i would bring the phone in, but i bought it through 3rd party dealer and i got my money back for the phone, but still have the broken phone and it would be great to fix it and have it for free.
Any way to get phone replaced by at&t? even if i have to pay does that kind of service exist?

Internal SDCard not working

Hello all i have a really strange problem. My Trophy is 1 month old, today it restarted itself alone and gave me the message that my SD Card is not working right and i need to replace it. I hate HTC for not making the slot accesable.
Now it's very complex to use the warranty, because i am from Bulgaria, the phone is bought from Germany, from ebay and on and on ...
Is there a way to test if the problem is the actual SD Card. If i am sure of that i will replace the lame thing on my own. Do someone from you have / had a similar problem ?
Thanks all.
Well, you could remove the SD Card from the phone (as described on the forums) and format the SD Card with a Nokia Symbian phone (E71 or else) and then test the card in a cardreader in your pc.
To be honest; I would just replace the SD Card. It isn't so much work and the cards are relatively cheap. The only other option seems to be trying to claim your warranty - but that might be difficult as you mentioned.
If you are tech savy and confindent, just open it up and drop a new 32 GB card in there yourself. We got plenty of forums posts around here, with how to open it up or even what types of cards to purchase.
If not, even though it may be a pain with the warranty based on what you told us, just send it over to HTC.
I am confident and i know i can do it. It's not a problem to open an replace. I am a little bit concern about the actual problem. If , and it's not something impossible , the card is just dead, this will be good. It's a common thing SD cards to fail. But if i void the warranty and the actual problem is in the mainboard itself, this will be a problem.
Probably only HTC has the ability to run diagnostics and test out if its the SD card or something else... but you will only know once you open it up.
I feel for your decision mate, g'luck.
Have you tried performing a hard Reset?
(Hold both volume buttons and switch the phone on)
I sure did. The first time it helped for about 20 mins. Than the card was gone again. The bootloader is reporting it as a SanDisk 61mb class 0 at the moment.
So i will open the phone, the warranty thing is not going to happen. Way to complicated, sadly.
One thing to ask. Because in the card replacing thread in the forum, after you put the the new card you must hard reset from the phone settings - My phone is hard reseted at the moment but it wont boot without a proper card. So i cannot pass the Error message. Do you thing that this is not going to be a problem, as the phone needs to be set right after that screen? I thing a the new card wont be a problem if it's properly detected ?
