Seeing bugs? Check here.. - Venue Pro General

Hey guys. If you are experiencing bugs you need to post at the official microsoft feedback forums! That's the only way these bugs will get put into the "fix list".
Link here:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsphone7/threads
Now for us Dell venue pro users, we really need to hit hard any issues we see with the camera because that's a dell specific bug and dell will be the ones fixing it.
So i am asking, please watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eCY0QckCj4
Let me know if you are experiencing the same scene mode bug as me!
If so please go over to the official feedback forums and notify them, they will be the one to tell dell to issue an update.
The more people we have behind this the faster (hopefully) it will get done.
Thanks.

Thankfully Dell have their employees ditching Blackberry for the Venue Pro so they will most likely want to make sure they iron out all the bugs .

Or they'll just switch them over to the android version when its released and never fix the WP7 bugs. Wouldnt surprise me, for all the promises MS made WP7 is looking a lot like WM with some of the bugs being reported and the typically poor camera across manufacturers.

Actually no, the Android version is supposedly coming without a keyboard so the VP will be the one they use for their business.

WM 7 for X2

hello guys,
i support all of the ppl who posted that X2 dev from SE is very poor and not followed right, no customer service like it should be, alot of complaints about slow performance and other S**T, i agree 100% this is a true fact, i deleted every single apps and left basics and still slow, sometimes freezes, need to take of D**N battery to restart..blabla memory card issue..blabla WE HAD ENOUGH.
sorry for the long introduction.
i don't know if XDA Dev ppl have done this.. am new here.
i googled WM 7 for SE Xperia X2..i found alot of articles and forums saying the X2 doesn't have required hardware. i mean COME ON!
is it possible?i believe it is for XDA, remove the non-sense apps and all the additional S**T ..would it be possible?
thank you
The Xperia X2 does not meet the minimum requirements for Windows Phone 7, nor does it have the requisite hardware buttons. Windows Phone 7 is unlikely to run on the X2 or any other phone with similar specs.
SE has pledged to several updates, so there definitely will be another ROM update or two coming down the pipe...whether or not they will fix your issues remains to be seen.
In general, please do more research before posting questions like this that have been answered before. Use the darn search button!

SE pledged 2 updates MR1 and MR2, both of which have been released, and have fixed a few issues. I have a useable X2 now which is good, the only annoying fault its the LED notifications. I don't think however anymore updates are due
SE will not release more roms to X2.
Android it's the first priority to E now........just see X10 updates.
If Hard-SPL not releases, X2 has no future.
X2 has really dated processor, its screen does not support multi-touch and come on. SE is unable to make WM6.5 work on X2 properly, how could they do this for WM7 I can't imagine.
I don't expect anymore X2 updates from SE, anyway I am really pissed off of waiting for them to fix this piece of garbage - have already bought Nokia E72 (which is btw great smartphone, besides it's cheaper). Unfortunately nobody wants to buy my X2 even for 150 EUR....

A friend of mine has E72 and says it beats all touchscreen crap out there
150 eur is a good price for a phone for playing and testing. And praying for custom ROM development. But I doubt it will be ever available. Too bad.

[Q] Android on DVP

oh by all means please Please do that. You know first getting access to root commands which we haven't, find an ability to change the spl (which we haven't) and finally porting android to windows phone 7 through something not named haret...
oh yes but I'm killing the thread.
Let's be realistic. If you want an android device, get an android device. Get an HD2, but what's ruining the thread?
Users asking when can I get android like xda is waiting forever to serve your android needs.
Take my advice, get a device that runs android if you don't want the dell

Perhaps when the Dell Venue comes out it may be possible, since both devices should have very similar hardware.

Yay for overzealous mods?
I think if HTC HD2 (an android device) can be loaded with WP7, it's quite likely a WP7 device can be loaded with android.
HD2 is WM6.5
No, hd2 is with android, linux, meego, wm6 and wp7

I for one would love to see a dual boot DVP, WP7 and Android.
Yeah, I have an Android phone (actually 2), and I love it, but I've also been playing with WP7 and it's great too. I actually have a DVP on order.
The big thing for me though is the hardware.
The DVP is a BEAUTIFUL phone, and I love the form factor. There's nothing else like it.
I think the next closest phone would be the BB Torch (outdated crap and no AWS), the Pre series (crap that HP will kill, also no AWS), or the Moto Spice (POS Android 2.1 with locked Bootloader)
I know it's not possible right now and I'll fully enjoy my DVP when it arrives.
I'm hoping that someone will be able to crack the DVP (wasn't GeoHot supposed to do it at Pwn2Own?) and since the Android Venue is supposed to be more-or-less the same hardware (minus the sweet keyboard), hopefully it will be possible eventually.
I own a Galaxy Tab and would second this since someone brought it up. Before my Tab I was actually eagerly awaiting the DVP, mainly for its build quality and portrait slide-out QWERTY. Didn't get it in the end cos of the teething WP7 issues, and also because it wasn't even launched in my country till today; but I would have disregarded warranty issues and imported it if WP7 didn't have all those issues.
After using Android I realised it fit my usage pattern much better, but I'm still pining after the hardware of the DVP. Would be great to have the best of both worlds.
What is it with people getting defensive about the idea of having a Dell Venue Pro running Android? I had a Touch Pro 2 that ran Android, the HD2 runs Android and HD7, Sure I can always buy an Android device (which I do, I own a Droid Pro and a Nexus One) but the hardware on the Dell Venue Pro is probably some of the best I've had (Returned the phone after a few weeks due to it being WP7)
I've started a Bounty on Android on the DVP here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13920817#post13920817
Please, contribute if you can!
Yes, I also don't get why some people mind. I do own HTC Desire Z wich is great, but wow, the DVP is stunning! I love the way it looks and feels in the hand, and shockingly the keyboard is the best I've seen, even better than Desire Z's one. (shock)
There's nothing like it on the market, but WM7 is a deal breaker. That's why if someone ports Android on DVP, I sell my Desire Z in a heartbeat and go buy a Venue Pro!
So please, someone, do it!
Anyone try the rooting technique for the venue on a venue pro yet..? I may when my replacement for this one comes. I have been playing with some Droid ROMs, and funniest thing things is lots of these Droid ROMs remind me of the Energy ROM with HTC sense on WM6.5.. so if I can get Droid on my DVP, I may ditch WM7 until Mango update.

Why would a root exploit for android do anything to wp7? And how would you run it? All the root methods I'm familiar with are either all's (z4root, gingerbreak, etc) or require adb (superoneclick or manual methods), neither of which has anything to do with wp7

Am I the only one?

I'm having 0 issues with my DVP. BUT what I am haing issues is finding usable apps, not on the marketplace.
Every time I think i fine something useful like say a file explorer i find this noted on the page.
"Update: TouchXperience does not seem to work on non-HTC devices,"
I'm not a big user of Apps but certain things should be usable no matter who makes your phone, I mean it's still windows.
You are either the only NOT having problems with the 16GB Dell Venue Pro, or you have an 8GB Dell Venue Pro.
May 4th Venue Pro just died last night. Won't boot past the Dell Screen. These phones are complete POS. I am starting to lose my mind with these things. PLEASE.... if you don't own one, go with an HD7 if your are with T-Mobile. I don't care how much brighter the Venue Pro screen is, it is not worth the headaches of the 15-20 crashes a day. Or as I just stated -- the phone completely dying.
have you solved your problem?
Nope... they say they will send another, but I have to wait for them to manufacture it and ground ship it; hence - in about 3 weeks. Another monthly payment with no phone. I have really given up. These things were never built correctly and never will be. If you would like to see where I am at mentally:
http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/mobile-devices/f/3824/t/19376375.aspx
I have to figure out a way to get an HD7 cheap I guess. I am not dumping another $400 on a phone. I wish someone from Microsoft would read this and see that I love my Zune, love my Zune software, and Love the Windows Phone 7 OS. But all this is being completely ruined for me by the Dell Venue Pro.
If someone from Microsoft is reading this... HOOK ME UP....get me an HD7 at cost! I need another Windows Phone but as I stated, I am not dumping another large pile of money into an almost identical product (minus the crashing and now permanent lock-ups) less than a year after I already forked money out.
MICROSOFT --- PLEASE HELP US. At least pull the Windows Phone license from Dell. They are taking your great operating system and dragging it through the mud. Everyone I know is incorrectly associating these Dell Venue Pro fiasco's with Windows Phone 7.
I havent had any issues with the phone. If you have having a problem with the apps installing, just wipe the phone and reinstall the update. If you still have problems just have Dell send you a new phone, you may have got a bad one. That happens sometimes with every type of phone. Personally, I think that these people complaining that the phone is a "POS", is more user error than anything else. And for them Im going to recommend a non-smart phone, and the idea that a developing website may not be the place for them if they cant even figure out how to work the phone. If you need help wiping the phone back to stock and then updating from there let me know. I can post the steps for you.

That is close to the most insulting thing I have ever read. I smart phone isn't for me. I may not be able to code apps and develope a website, but this isn't rocket science. I have gone through 4. There is no "user error". The phone's have just crashed under normal operation -- app loading or not app loading. There are so many complaints all over the web by tech savy people (go look at the guy over at zdnet) with the exact same problem.
Since you are chalking this up to "user error" , enlighten me as to what you think has been done? As far as a wiping the phone back to stock, it is stock on the Dell screen. I can force a hard reset with the down volume, camera, and power button, but it fails everytime.
As I stated, before you chalk this up as "user error", go do some research on the web. The failure rate of the 16Gb units is astounding. There is not a whole lot of things you can do to these phones to brick them, unless you start tampering with the SD card, jailbreaking or hombrewing the OS, or both. Other than that it is pretty much idiot proof.
Thanks for trying to downplay the situation, but I am sure most people on here are not buying your excuse.
I have two 16GB Venue Pro's, one I use for personal use and one for development. I received my first DVP about 2 months ago, and have had no issues with it. I ordered my second one, and have it for about two weeks with no issues. So between development and personal use I have seen no major issues with these phones. The only problem I have seen here, is your many threads and complaints through out this section. Frankly if you have had 4 phones and they all seem to have problems, the only common denominator there is you sir. XDA is for development and help, not just to flame phones and complain.

I would ignore him, there are obviously good working units but the issues are real, documented and acknowledged and anyone who would dismiss that fact just because he has had a good experience is not worth arguing with. Been through 4 myself so I guess I just dont know how to use the highly advanced features of the Dell

I've had 3 2 have been good. So I know there are issues. The one I am using right now is really good. But I only add the really part when I swapped sd cards. So that is indeed an issue. I assure you I have neither user issues nor flame anyone. Missions statements are true. Your points about complaining and flaming are right on though. At some point threats and complaints fo become overwhelming.
I'm not trying to upset you buddy, I'm just saying if you hate the phone return it. You don't need to keep posting everywhere here about how much you hate this phone.
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I'm having 0 problems with the phone itself, and the apps from the marketplace are fine.
My issue is comeing from the actual usable homebrew apps. The ones we actually could use for something like adding ringers and files.
And I do have the 8 gig model with NoDo and am looking into a 32gig class 10 microsd card but it cost me almost 600 for the phone. (UPS charged me 80 bucks for crossing the border)
so for me it's quickly becoming a usability issue, not a phone issue. THe phone works as planned.

D.J.Steve is willing to TRY and port Android to the DVP

No flames please. If you like WP7 and think Android is crap then do not read or respond to this thread.
On the other hand, if you like the DVP but think the hardware is garbage then read on.
I've been spearheading an effort to get Android ported over to the DELL Venue Pro. I'm no developer or hacker, but I am trying to keep things organized and focused.
Here is my thread.

figured it's coming. DVP already got an android cousin to begin with.
why ruin something that works? I have had every dell device with android and it doesn't hold a candle to windows phone...
i would think more people would want a port of windows to the streak and venue
This would be interesting to see. As much as I like WP7 I wouldn't mind having the ability to switch between the two. Also, if he can get it to work maybe the method used can help with further development for WP7 stuff on DVP's.

Willing to help how I can
I already PM'd DJ Steve about this but Ill put it public here as well. Through a non-profit license my org has access to up to 200 units DVP's at $30 each.
NOTE: I AM NOT/ WILL NOT/ CAN NOT SELL THESE PHONES TO ANYONE
If it will help the process, or even just get it going- I could be willing to distribute.. I dunno, 5 or 10 of these to any developers that DJ Steve deemed worthy, or to him to distribute as needed.
No scheme, just that these would be REALLY useful to my organization if we could get them running Android - as Windows phones... ttheyre basically just $30 cameras and Skype phones as far as our needs are concerned.
heres the techsoup link if there are any other Non-Profits interested> ** I cant post links yet but its on the techsoup.org website under products>Dell. **
I dont know all the legal aspects of it, but if there are professional developers out there interested, it may even be possible for you to donate your 'time' as a Charitable Donation (ie tax write-off) - Again Im not a lawyer and that proposition might be completely unlawful, its just a thought- one that I will look into if anyone is interested.
LETS DO THIS!

DJ_Steve has been out of action for nearly a year, so he doesnt really have time to do anything dev related, much less hack bootloaders for the VP.
Do you have any VPs that are using old versions of WP7? (that wernt flashed with the FFU that is floating around?).
We are missing the URLs for unbranded VPs and the WP7 community as a whole is missing urls for the 8779 update.
Hypothetically if the bootloader was changed, I would assume it would more or less work the the V's roms, since they're like 99% identical hardware wise.

theres many good devs that can easily port this for our device. I think....
Let's wait and see.
Meantime I took the opportunity to send them a message, once more:
"Hello,
Are you thinking in also updating the firmware for Huawei X5 U8800?
The last 3 beta gingerbread releases for our phone are one worst than the previous and more serious is the missing calls issue in all of them.
Well, present your clients with such work is already bad but abandon the developing and leaving it as it is, without even considering your clients, it’s a serious matter and will obviously contributes to scare future buyers and those that already bought.
Leave a phone with 3 bad firmware updates it’s just not a good and healthy company policy.
I hope you are kind enough to correct this and present a big community of Huawei X5 U8800 users with a new and fully operational firmware. Android V4.0 would be a great surprise. Think about it
Thank you very much.

Stuff like completely working saunalahti-sim support. It's somewhat working right now but not perfect. The phone still looses connection regularly and requires reboots.
