[Q] Will the US VP's 3G work in Europe? - Venue Pro General

So according to the other thread the US version would have 850/1700/2100.
Would that work in Europe? (Netherlands/Belgium/Germany) Or just in the US?
Sorry if this has been answered before. Can't find a clear overview anywhere.
EDIT: Found out that European HSDPA is 1900/2100. (1900 being for upstream 2100 for downstream). Does that mean I can still use 3g but only downstream?

The US version has 900/1700/2100 - it can for sure be used in the UK
I don't know what bands the rest of Europe uses
The australia version is advertised as having 1900/2100

Couple of people I know are going to visit NY for 10 days starting next week.
But I just found out there's not a single Microsoft store on the East Coast
Ebay's filled with preorders unfortunately.
Bah.
If anyone has tips on getting a VP to NY so they can pick it up in the next couple of weeks, please let me know
@Peew: GSM 900 is used accross Europe, no exceptions. Phone supports it so it'll work.

Smart man will probably need a US credit card though?
Think I'm going to buy an HTC Trophy anyway, because then I can get it today, won't have to worry about minor hardware mistakes or other warranty related stuff... And I'll have it today
Just played around with it in a store and I fell in love immediately with the OS. Couldn't see the phone anymore, so I figured it's not worth the hassle.

Out of interest, why go for the Trophy over the HD7? I only ask as I've been trying to work out what benefits it would give. I'm assuming here that you're buying the phone outright and so it's not a case of it's the only model you can get from your operator.

So is it possible to get it shipped overseas? Or is it only possible to get it shipped internally even if paying with paypal?
I had a brief look a couple of days ago and shipping overseas didn't seem to be an option!

Excellent Got a Trophy now, but the VP might make a nice present
WP7 is absolutely stunning though. Really the reviews weren't kidding! Walked by someone with an iPhone 4 yesterday, and was surprised to see the relatively jerky menus compared to the WP7's. That put a nice cherry on top for me

Touch HD not recognizing the SIM - Please Help

After a long wait, I just received the Touch HD via FedEx this morning. I immediately insterted the SIM card and powered up the device.
It is not recognizing the SIM card. It gives me a SIM missing and emergency calls only message. I am in the USA and had it shipped from Clove in the UK. This is really frustrating.
I tried with couple of other SIM cards from my friends, same issue with those SIM cards as well. I did a Hard Reset multiple times now, but no issue. I contacted the Clove, they have asked me to ship it back.
I do not want to spend $80 odd UDD to ship it back if there is anyother way to trouble shoot the problem. Everything else in the device works just FINE, except for the SIM error.
I am using T-Mobile USA SIM which runs on 1900 MHz frequency.
Any advice for you all will be grealy appriciated.
Yeah....I have to figure this one out as well. The detail specs says that it should be able to run on T Mobile frequency.
Please someone respond to this thread!!!!!

This is very important!!! I was hoping to use Tmobile sim myself. Anyone has it running on tmobile in USA?

I have ordered many, many items from Clove and on each and every occasion I have been provided a first class service regardless if there was a problem or not.
No matter where you purchase the device from you can not guarantee it to be problem free. As such you can't blame Clove ~ all CLove do is receive stock from the wholesalers.
Occasionally there will be a defective item which has slipped through HTC's quality control check.

They do, but that is for 3G support (don't ask..... the boneheads in Bellevue made a decision that essentially puts all T-Mobile US customers on a 3G island. They might as well have been bought by Sprint!). The Touch HD will operate just fine on the EDGE network and still support the 850/900/1800/1900Mhz frequencies for voice traffic.

Let me clear one thing. I NEVER blamed Clove for a defective device. It's not like they would send me a used one. I just mentioned that I bought it from Clove, UK because I had to ship it back to them and wait for them to test it and send me a new one. So I was wondering if there was anyother way to troubleshoot that issue.
In anycase, I emailed Clove about the issue and they responded immediately and asked me to send the device back, which I did. It is in transit and it SUX that I will not receive my HD for another week or so...

Telus HTC Hero, can it be unlocked

Can the Telus HTC Hero be unlocked, without having any telus sim or being activated on telus in any way at all? I'm on Bell but want an android device. Was thinking of buying it, unlocking it, and throwing in a Bell sim.
unlock?
I am looking for the same answer, it should be able to get unlocked question is has anyone don it yet.
Unlocked and android 2
Better yet lets see it unlocked and android 2 installed!
There is a guy on eBay selling unlock code for the Telus Hero (try searching "telus hero"). If you are willing to shell out 25 bucks, you may want to try that. He said that he would refund you if his code didn't work.
Telus does not lock the phone, that's what the CSR told me. Pretty much u can put in any sim card to make it work.

That's really good news for us AT&T guys!!! I just need to buy one now, from what I hear Telus will not ship to the USA.
So far, actually buying one is the biggest issue. There's been discussion both here at XDA:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=580418
and on some other forums, such as:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=1585687
About buying it. Apparently both Best Buy and Walmart in Canada have them, but only sell them in the store and won't ship them. (Best Buy's is on their website, but Walmart's doesn't seem to be).
I'm an AT&T subscriber that's been keeping an eye out for a way to buy a Telus HTC Hero. If I lived close to Canada, I'd drive up and get one, but I live in Georgia, so it's a bit far. I hope somebody finds a place online or something.
I'd be careful about believing the Telus CSR info that the phone is unlocked. Somebody posted on Boy Genius Report that they bought one and the phone IS locked.
See user "k386" comment here:

I just bought a Telus Hero from Best Buy today, and I can tell you that the phones are LOCKED. Bought a code off a website and unlocked it, it is now usable on Rogers, but I'm with bell, so I will have to get a Bell Sim tomorrow.

I just got my brand new Hero from Telus at square one.
I then put my Rogers sim card in.
I unlocked it successfully through mobileincanada.com it took 10 minutes to receive the unlock code.
Everything is working great so far. Except for wifi ... having issues connecting to any hot spots? it may be just weak signal or something ... will do some more investigating.
btw. My old phone was the HTC HERMES (I loved it for many years) but it's time to move on

So, just checking: You live in Canada, right? You didn't drive there from USA, right?
I'm just looking at this from afar. So that mall has a main Telus store and a satellite store. For the smaller store, I see that the store mgr or seller provides a non-telus email address. So, for those who want this phone, i don't guess you'd think he'd sell & ship them, right?
Because what were the requirements to buy the phone? I'm just curious since so many people in US are trying to find a source where to buy these phones from.
How much did mobileincanada charge to unlock? And would they be a possible source for buying telus phones, and re-selling & shipping, at a markup, to USA?

This is how I feel about my T-mobile Wing... My unlocked Europe/GSM version of the Hero arrives tomorrow. I wanted the brown color Then I should just have to call up t-mobile's data group and get the settings to use it, with my swapped out sim card, right? (I know, i know, i won't get 3G. That's okay with me. there are many tradeoffs)
You don't need to meet any requirements to buy the phone outright. Other than having the cash to do so
I've bought 3 this week for USA members to ship to them. Was no biggie.

Yes that's who I'm doing it for
I am waiting mine to arrive (my friend in Canada bought and shipped it to me).
Just now I went to HTC Canada's website and looked at the spec again:
Dual mode UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (900/2100MHz for
EU/Asia, 850/1900 for US and 850/2100 for Telstra)
It's funny how they list 850/1900 for US on HTC Canada's website, as if the phone was designed to work in the US. They could have put it much better by saying "850/1900 for Telus"... Only AT&T uses 850/1900 here in the US, and NO I don't think AT&T is carrying any Android device in the near future.
It's like "Hey, friends across the borders. I am sorry for making the Hero exclusively on CDMA networks in your country, but you know what, here is something that you may like."

[Q] Samsung Focus on other carriers unbranded?.

Been looking around and I can't find any information if the Focus will be available unbranded. I live in Australia on the Telstra network who uses the same band as AT&T (850 MHz) so compatibility is not an issue.
According to Paul Thurrott in his Windows Weekly podcast this is the one to have. Amazing screen, amazingly thin and light and has expandable storage.
Now, where can us folk in the UK get hold of this handset from unlocked?
Scott Whitmore,
I would trade you a Focus for a Omnia 7. I live in the US but don't like how the focus look and would like to get the Omnia 7 instead.

plenty of users on xda-developers have bought phones off negri electronics and have been very happy with the service.
I think the issue with these sellers is that there is no after sales service. In most cases you don't need one. Samsung has good QA and I have been satisfied with most of their products. But if you are unfortunate and need to exchange or return the phone, you might be out of luck.
I've ordered a number of things from Negri and never had any issues. They have always shipped fast AND they actually care about their customers. I'm curious where you saw they were a scam from?
The two things I really like about Negri is they aren't afraid to tell you straight, there is no BS with them. Also they just passed along savings on shipping to everyone because they were able to negotiate a better deal with this shipping company. How many companies can you say will do that for their customer.
I would order from them
I haven't ordered anything from Negri Electronics but, I have heard a lot of good things about them. You are definitely ordering from real people, that much I know. From what I've seen they answer loads of questions quickly on Twitter. I am getting a new phone soon and I will definitely be ordering from them.
You can easily buy an unlocked Focus from ebay (as I did) or even Amazon. Most likely it will be the AT&T version since it's the most widespread. I hated the ATT ROM and so downloaded the Rogers Canada version of the ROM from this website - which is much cleaner - and flashed my Focus.
Voila. My phone was still unlocked, no horrible ATT stuff making my Focus slow, no tacky orange ATT intro. Also, I was able to update through Zune to 8107, the latest available build (ATT blocks updates after 7720).
If you want a focus and are worried about branded phones, this might be a useful process for you like it was for me.

[Q] Getting an unlocked Atrix from US

Hi guys,
I live in Europe and would like to get the Motorola Atrix 4g. There's still no official date on the release in Europe as far as I know and just might be released in July 2011 in UK.
Well, I don't really want to wait that long and I might get the phone from US or from Canada, where it should be released next week.
Is there something I should consider or any problems I might expect because of using the phone in Europe?

There is no problem for Atrix using on any others country. I wish it can switch 3G to 2G only to extend battery life and switch back when need.

I bought mine from the States and I'm in Australia and it works perfectly. I read up on all the frequencies around Europe as well, because I'll be there at the end of the year and most of Europe has the 2100mhz 3G frequency which is supported by the Atrix, so you should be all good.
How did you unlock?
Do you know where can you get the Atrix unlocked online? @ikenley did you get yours in the US or online, and if online, which site? I am planning to get one to replace my old Nexus One...

You can buy "unlocked" from Negri Electronics (that is where mine came from). They are a bit pricier than other offers, but they ship directly internationally. The phone ships locked, but they send you the unlock code by email. As I mentioned in another thread, it may take some time (two weeks for me) to ship out, as they do not seem to have a steady supply.
See more sources at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964641 . Most of them only ship within the US though, but if you have an address in the US that you can ship to, it should work. (As long as that address is linked with your Google Checkout / Amazon / Paypal / other account used for payment.)
There is also an unlock thread, discussing unlock sites for Atrix. It seems possible for US$ 15.
there are many offers on ebay also
And what about the laptop dock?
