I have the OTA - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the OTA Notification didn't install it, who or which developer should i contact in order to find the installation path or log of it just so it could help people?

It was pointed out to me in another thread that an app in the market called Alogcat would do the job. BTW, thanks for asking. Let us know how it goes!

Alright gunna try alogcat

Too uch stuff on alogcar, should I leave it on then install the ota?

Please post the url to the update.zip file.

Apparently running a logcat does not help in the quest for a permaroot solution. The OTA writes to a r/w partition in nand. The bootloader checks the sig on reboot and flashes from there. The nand locks on reboot. Don't waste your time but thanks for trying to help!

Just wondering if people could see our check the sig checking thing btw I don't know how to get the update.zip
By the way in my opinion people want to use logcat because they want to know where the update.zip is stored

I installed the OTA, and just saw this thread. I haven't really been following everything...
What's the deal? Why are you guys concerned with the OTA? Potential post-launch lockdown issues?

It won't help with root since it's signed. I just want the update.zip url so I can apply the update without waiting for the OTA. Please post your logcats.

Ok gunna strt my logcat n update
Btw my update is auto

Need to fire up alogcat as soon as you notice the notification for update. Then save it to sdcard and post the txt. That way we can get the OTA link. Don't think running it on install will do anything since it boots into recovery and alogcat won't be running anyway.

So whats the point of using alogcat.. I need to charge my battery before updating.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

Let me summarize the tons of posts about this.
1. install alogcat
2. wait for notification of OTA
3. fire up alogcat
4. save log as txt file to sdcard
5. remove personal information from log file
6. post file on XDA so that others can have the link and download the ota update as well without having to wait.
Thanks for being part of the community.

One problem tho, the file was downlpaded via boot loader, scanned my system for any zip files and files with update on its name, I didnt see any, btw im gunna upload the log when i get hoME

Update Notifications

Hey guys. I know that there is an available atrix update, but I don't want to update. Att keeps sending me annoying messages to update. How do I get this to stop?

It's easy to block the update if you don't want to lose root and also want to get rid of the annoying messages.
Just rename the otacerts.zip and cacerts.bks certs in system/etc/security.
The update will download (you must let it download), but fail the auth check and not install.
This also turns off the reminder notifications.
Easily reversible if you want to get updates later.

I have the same problem. It tells me I don't have permission to rename the files when I try. And I can't find them using my PC.

NVM. AS I POST THIS, Root explorer has decided to kick ass and rename it when I click the "Mount R/w" button at the top.
glad i saw this, i was going to ask the same question. thanks
Thank you for the tip. It works.

Try my method if you're rooted. Works! I haven't got any prompts about doing anything after freezing the apps.

[How to] Make a copy of your OTA update file (for backup/testing purposes)

Hi Everyone,
It was brought to my attention that there really isn't a clear explanation anywhere (as far as I know) on how to capture an OTA update file once you've downloaded it (for backup and/or testing purposes of course). So I've decided to write up this brief and simple "How to guide".
1. You need a rooted device
2. You'll need to download and install root explorer or Super Manager
3. Go ahead and download the OTA update BUT once downloaded DO NOT INSTALL yet, hit your back button or simply tap install later.
4. Open root explorer and navigate to the folder that says cache.
5. You'll see the OTA update file in there tap and hold then select copy.
6. Paste file to your external sd card (from there you'll be able to move it to your PC or where ever.
7. Since you have now successfully made a copy of your update (purley for backup purposes of course) navigate to your settings>about phone>system update and this will bring back the option to install the update
Any questions or suggestions I would be more than willing to answer or make edits to the OP if anyone sees a step I skipped or missed
Thanks to DarkRyoushii for the idea
Thanks dLo GSR for the super manager suggestion

Thanks! If I see an OTA message popup anytime soon I'll make sure to back it up before installing..

Hopefully that user with the dev device that received a 1.75 update (claims) hspa is enabled can push that update out to all of us...

he won't, he said he's said too much already :/
For those too cheap to buy root explorer, this can be done using ADB as well, right?
Might be good to post up instructions using that too

.......................................
Just checked... nothing for me so far.
cool, i heard a new prerelease update should come
if you don't want to buy root explorer, Super Manager is a good free app as well.
So it just like nandroid ?
Its a full back up of the system? (ghost?)
Its only make a backup of the update? no backup of the system?
Edit:
OH, its backup the Update that available.
but how do i make a nandroid ? without a recovery..
step 1. get a recovery.
step 2. make nandroid.
:3
I'm sorry that was mean, I honestly don't know if its possible without a recovery though :S
Ok, I receive the 1.75 message and did the steps. There were two files in the cache folder and I copy the most recent one. I hope it is what we are looking for.

DID YOU SIGN UP FOR THE BETA?! If yes, please remove it and respect the NDA that you agreed too. We are trying to set a good example at xda by respecting motorola, regardless if it helps us get a bootloader solution earlier. :/
If you didn't sign up and just got the update randomly.. I'm amazed XD

what area do you live in, where you running .26 or .57, did the update pop up or did you check for it manually? Also I don't believe that to be the update. They're usually zip files and the .57 update was around 17mb... weird if that was your only file
he said that there was 2 files but he only grabbed the latest one.. so I'm assuming he only picked up the market.apk (probably from a market update) instead of the .zip
I live in Mexico. I have an unlocked Atrix. I need to be rooted because I use the hotspot app a lot. I didn't sign up any beta or NDA. I just received an OTA message to update to 1.75 two or three days ago. I haven't do that until I'm sure I can continue rooted. If there is anything else I can try please let me know. The other file is not too much different of this one.

as previously mentioned in another thread, press okay and let it download, it will then say install now or install later. YOU MUST CLICK INSTALL LATER. then you can goto the cache file and just incase you get the wrong thing, copy EVERYTHING from the cache folder like instructed in the OP of this thread.

Liberty v.5 problem

anyone else having issues running the liberty customizer on liberty v.5 for gingerbread? I download the 100 files, and then it runs a setup screen for ever and never loads. I let it sit for a couple of hours. Suggestions?
Charging issues, myself. Stuck at 60%, wont charge any more.
Apparently,(and what worked for me) you have to go into the SD card and delete the zip and folder and redownload. Doesn't allow me to add quick contacts still though.

delete the zip and folder for the liberty rom?
You go to your SD card and find liberty-customizer.zip and the liberty-customizer folder. Delete both of those and redownload the customizer. Its due to a possible faulty download on 3G, from what I've gathered.

[Q] HELP!!! Can't get my Droid2 to flash CM7

So I backed up my stock Rom, restored and cleared cache. Now when i install zip from sd card and choose the zip i want from sd card and click yes to flash it. I get this error message.
E: Error in /sdcard/update-cm-7.0.3-droid-signed.zip
(status) 7
Installation aborted.
Can someone tell me what this means and how do i fix this so i can flash CM7, I'm getting very frustrated.
You need to format your system, cache, and data. And you also need to be using the right kernel.
Look on rootz wiki for cm4dx. This is essentially how you need to prepare, except use D2 files instead (A Google search should help you with it)

Thanks, I checked the site out but didn't really understand most of it. Do they have a tutorial or a video on how to do that on there site. Would you be able to copy the link on here. I'm not very familiar with that kernel ****. I really want RM7 but don't want to mess **** up.

That file is for the droid 1. It will never work go to the thread by jbird and dowload build 11. Its in the d2 dev section.
