Development progress of samsung galaxy s - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hi all, i am planning to sell mt my galaxy and get a htc android phone. Reason is the development is reall its slow for the galaxy s i9000. The vibrant has a lot of progress compared to the international version. Do you think galaxy s has a broght development future?

I wouldn't say the development really differs much.. The only real development I know that's being prioritised on the Vibrant is Cyanogenmod, and we'll get that soon after. There's also plenty of stuff that was developed for the i9000 first..

I can't find a froyo release for vibrant....
And for htc they are not any faster http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&...=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=72d3e32b142a26fd

Honeycomb for SGT.

I know there are a lot of rumors out there, but I was wondering if the SGT will meet the required specs need to run honeycomb?

Its quite impressive you missed all the threads dealing with this topic.
Yeh, search before posting, there is a thread abt it. imo, i hope we get the updat, but i bet samsung will release the SGT2 a month after the honycomb updaate.
Odds are samsung will release another tab with honeycomb on it. I mean just look at the samsung vibrant they are going to make a vibrant 2 which is said to have a ffc as well as other features current vibrant owners wanted from the start.

I do recall samsung stating that the SGT will get 2.3 and 3.0.
With the history of updates coming from samsung youll see it after they release version 3 of our pretty tablet. By then you already sold it and purchased a new one.
Meh, CM support is there now (pretty much), we're sorted
A) Search
B) There are no f***ing hardware requirements, but if you searched, you'd know that too.

Gingerbread not coming to our Apollo's?

Hello all,
According to this site Link a lot of galaxy devices are getting the gingerbread 2.3.3 update.
My question is:
Why don't we get the update?
I mean, the galaxy mini is getting it, why not the SG3?
Can someone please explain?

Its business ;-) why would Samsung pay their devs to make GB on SG3, who buys SG3 anymore? Nowadays they buy galaxy mini and ace, so they want to support those devices... I mean SG3 is not making money for Samsung anymore, so they don't have any reason to provide update :-(

i couldn't have said it better. Samsung has stopped SG3 production itself so we can't expect anymore updates. Even the Froyo update promised by samsung came so late. do not even dream about Gingerbread. We can get it only if it is ported by some dev from the ace or some other phone.
It's true but also sad. I haven't planed to buy a new phone for 2 years. I hope someone will translate the gingerbread from galaxy ACE to our phone
But, samsung has to make gingerbread. Rules of google! 18 months after the release of gingerbread every phone that can run gingerbread has to have it!
Yeah and 18 months after 2.4/2.5 is probably coming out. Then gingerbread will be like froyo right now.

no gingerbread for us officialy. but what is with the porting? i see alot of low range phones like xperia x8, lg optimus one etc. getting ported gingerbread. How are they doing this porting? Is anyone with G3 doing it?
Samsung isn't porting gb to sg3, but there are some people on the dev board getting organized on porting cyanogen, which uses gb nowadays, and that is basically our best bet on getting it working on our phones right now.

Even so, i don't think they'll get it ready for at least a couple of months from now, so you can either help them with dev/testing or sit back and not think about 2.3 for now
I read it somewhere in this forum that it's not possible to port Gingerbread as it requires at least 1.0 Ghz processor. Would be glad to prove wrong though.
even the galaxy 5/europe got gingerbread http://www.madteam.co/forum/index.p...anogen-710-nightly/page__pid__4724?#entry4724
i cant help becouse i don't know anything about making roms and such things

No! Its not necessary as Galaxy Ace can have GB but it doesn't have 1Ghz processor
Then giving more priority to high-end phones can be reason?
There's no point in Samsung to release gingerbread for our phone. Paying devs to make Gingerbread to some old phone which is not giving them money anymore would casue them to go in minus and that means the phone would've been a failure in the markets.
i think that the sg3 won't have the update to gingerbread because they will not earn nothing from this marketing choise..
Samsung has something to gain. It's based on pleased customers. If they bring Gingebread for G3 many of the users will be pleased and they're gona buy again Samsung. If customers see that other companies give GB for their devices, it is possible to buy from other companies. This happened with many disapointed SE X8 users(they dont even have official 2.2).
All the above is known as aftersales service.
ALWAYS high-end phones will get first updates !! And everyone knows why.
Dont panic SG3 Will get Gingerbread too, as we got official froyo so late will get gingerbread too eventualy in june i belive.
No way Galaxy Mini or Fit is better than Galaxy 3. It's just that they are latest phones doesn't mean they are more popular. I doubt they will get more sales than Galaxy 3.
The thing is when we got froyo that's when gingerbread came out. Now when gingerbread comes to our g3 then we all are going to want 2.4

i mailed samsung yesterday with the question "can we expect an update to gingerbread for the apollo i5800 as its also part of the galaxy line?" the answer was short, "dont count on it".

Should I trade my HD2? Offered a Samsung galaxy s

Hi guys..loooove my hd2 but wanting to try the galaxy series..trading someone my hd2..am I making a mistake? Does the vibrant have as many roms? Is it as easy to flash/customize as my hd2? Curious on anyone's thoughts with exp with both phones..BTW I'm running a sense Rom from rapfigna that I love...

Not sure about a Galaxy S but i can definitely recommend a Galaxy S2, best phone on the market (im an old HD2 user) lots of ROM's/Themes,etc,etc too
My suggest to you is to ask the people at Galaxy S 4G forums themselves regarding Rom Development and Customization, while checking their Rom Development section for information such as if they managed to port Gingerbread/Sense Roms to their hardware...

[Q] few Roms fpr Galaxy Tab 7.7?

I changed from Samsung Galaxy S2 to Samsung Galaxytab 7.7 3G.
In xda-developers forum there are many Roms (Custom and Stock) for the S2 but only a few for the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
What is the reason for this?
Will there be more roms if ICS for Galaxy Tab 7.7 is out?
I dont understand why there are only a few roms for this really great TAB
I think because it is such a new product and also development is focussed on ICS and there is a fair amount of work to port from CM9 from other devices and build a working rom with no issues.
It is close though! I can't wait.
The custom tweaked and stock v3 is soon to be released and if anything like v2 it will be even better and run very well.
Lets support our devoted devs!!!
The answer probably is:
GS II sold a ton of devices (10 millions at least) and was brought to Us early
GT 7.7 is selling few devices and in Us came only trough verizon few time ago

Future ROM Support

I have a Samsung Captivate currently running ICS. They are already working on a Jelly Bean port from the nexus S. After having this phone and being on XDA, I have no intention of buying a phone that does not have a large developer following. The HTC OneX looks great, but I don't think I will see the following I have with the captivate....whats the prediction for the S3? I think we get a lot for the captivate because of the nexus S. I am not sure the S3 has the same.
Thoughts?
I'm curious as well because the International S3 (I9300) will have a ton of dev support, but the North American versions should also have a good base as well.
I don't think we will see the same level of development as the I9300, but I think there should be adequate support for us as well.
The galaxy s3 will have adequate support once we see a more consistent launch. Most of the developers don't even have the phone yet.

Coming off of the HTC rezound, i hope it does. I have been on the ropes on buying this or keeping a NEXUS that Verizon sent me as a replacement for my rezound.
Given the similarity in hardware across the carriers... This may be the best supported non nexus device samsung has delivered to the states

As previously stated, this is one of the largest, fastest, and most sought after device on the market today. The Only other andriod device that would be competition would be the One X. I do not think development will be any issue. Once these devices flood the market as i hope and Samsung says, we will be fine!
