are you sure that it is Froyo? or is it 2.1?

It seems to unbelievable! Who can confirm this?

No one can, it's just the latest update instructions. It even mentions as a new feature what we got with one of the recent updates: integrated backup.

Most likely, it's 2.1 updrade. It's rediculous to announce 2.2 update before 2.1 is released.

Froyo was never mentioned anywhere in that post on the SE product blog. Also, that was posted sometime in June 2010.
for those who havent seen it yet (which is almost impossible.. lol)

reply from SE regards "Froyo update on Xperia X10"

I posted the petition link on the Sony Ericsson UK and global Facebook sites and got the following reply from SE:
“Hi Mark, Thank you for your feedback regarding the Sony Ericsson X10’s Android upgrade.
We appreciate your feedback regarding this and have passed this on to the relevant department. We can confirm that this is something our developers are currently looking into and will provide further information once this is available.

That does sound promising. To be fair, they couldn't have missed the huge reaction from their customers. Well over2000 responses to the petition already and it's only been a couple of days. Looking brighter?

Hopefully that is the reason that the incremental upgrade which was due "a couple of weeks" from May 5th has not materialised. Hopefully their best bods are focussing on seeing if 2.2 is a possibility....
No doubt their developers have X10 phones andthemselves would like their phones to be running 2.2...

... dont worry about that, this update was part of development for X10mini (pro), so we should see it in the next weeks.
and yes, 2.1 and NO 2.2 (froyo) brings only bad vibes for SE (and their future)
Something tells me that although the response sounds promising SE won’t change from their original plan. The 2000+ votes (As good as this is) only accounts for a fraction of the x10 owners out there.
Leaving out Froyo until a completely new line of phones can be used as a sell tool and a reason to adopt any new android phones they release where as if the x10 get the 2.2 now the new line would have to have more hardware advances to prove their worth increasing cost. Judging the hardware cut backs SE made with its flagship device most people can predict or assume the next wave of SE android phones will follow suit.
The petition needs to reach beyond the blogs to really make a difference, If the Japanese got wind of the petition and signed up that would really open SE eyes and i'm sure the speed increase of 2.2 would be enough to get them on board. Any ideas how?

No hope.
Just a standard message ...
Where did you see hope there?
Well, it is something that should have been done. Since this is the best SE phone in a long time, with a potential to get better.
So if they are choosing to apply this update... Then I would assume that I would be even more satisfied with my phone. But right now, is the thing that annoys me the most.. That I can't buy applications here in Norway yet.
And I can do it in Morocco, and that country isn't on the list either.
All I can say that 2.2 finally provides bluetooth functionality for voice dial.
In places where it is illegal to hold a cellphone while driving, voice dialing using bluetooth is an extremely useful function. Android devices have been lacking this since 1.5 cupcake. Google finally added full bluetooth functionality on 2.2. I hope SE does the right thing and updates the X10 to reflect this.
It is very annoying when Apple updates the Iphone constantly and Android phones are stuck on whichever hardware manufacturer schedule to make its phone unique (e.g. sense, timescape, touchflow).
I think Google has the correct idea of separating future updates from the unique modifications that the manufacturers want. But for that to happen, all phones have to reach 2.2. first.
i work in a bar in malmö, sweden which the nearest city to where se have a rather huge campus there, anyway, i got a saw a japenese guy with an x10 and told him that we have the same phones, i told him that the x10 really needs froyo to be updated onto it and he told me that it will prob be on it sooner than you think.
he explained to me that they knew about people crying out for 2.1 and well get it sooner aswell!!
is there light at the end of the tunnel??

They are still lacking the AVRCP profile update. It is still stuck on v1.0.. when the latest version is v1.4
Yep. I bought an MW600 as it was advertised that it's fully compatible with X10, but after three months of emails flying around, SE concluded that it's not fully compatible due to Android's limitation on AVRCP profile.
For MW600 to work fully with X10, we need AVRCP 1.3 or above!!
Maybe we can stress SE to roll out an update for security reason? These few days, Malware, backdoors and trojans in official market place became hot topic.
And quote from CNET :
At least 50,000 people had downloaded the apps in question, according to enthusiast site AndroidCentral. However, many of those potentially infected may have been protected by staying current with the latest Android updates. AndroidCentral notes that Google actually patched its source code to prevent this type of exploit for users running Android 2.2.2 or higher and that the vulnerability doesn't exist at all in Gingerbread, aka Android 2.3.

The attack is an exploit, they have to patch it.
You need to do a full system wipe and reset your phone completely, the data wipe and reset from settings may not be enough. This means ODIN, RUU's, .sbf files or a trip to your carrier store if this is beyond your capabilities.

Edit: SE Brazil withdraws statement about 2.3 Gingerbread in Nov. 2011 for X10

Found on twitter Brazil and linked to "complain here" reclameaqui.com website. I had to use google translate, but it seems some regions may be discussing getting official 2.3 in Q4 2011.
Edit: SE Brazil withdrew statement the next day saying the Arc would have 2.3 and older devices will stay on current Android OS. I was really hoping SE had a change of heart. Instead, they quickly confirmed we are on our own. Oh well, Sorry Guys
Edit March 24, 2011: Sony Ericsson released statement that due to consumer response and development of Gingerbread for the Arc and Play has allowed SE to bring 2.3.3 update to the X10. Update scheduled for end of Q2-beginning of Q3 2011(june/july).
Edit June 15, 2011: SE Brazil releases statement that multitouch will be implemented in the 2.3.3 update, allowing for 3D maps etc. Some people speculate that SE Brazil is talking about dualtouch. However, SE addresses this in the comments saying that SE knows the difference between dualtouch and multitouch.

***Final consideration of the Company
Regarding questions on the upgrade of the line Xperia smartphone to version 2.2 of Android, Sony Ericsson announced that in 2011 the company will focus efforts on its new line of Xperia handsets that come with the most current version of Android 2.3 from the product Xperia (tm) Arc. The devices that are already in the portfolio company's released so far, will keep the version 2.1 of the Android operating system, updated in December 2010, and it offers unique features entertainment such as video recording in HD, plus access to thousands new applications and a unique user experience with graphical user interfaces richer. ****June 15, 2011- SE Brazil posts on their blog.....
With the update release date approaching, many readers want to know what changes, what changes and what will not happen with the Xperia ™ X10.
Thinking about it, the Preview will make a series of posts about these key points. The goal is to answer the questions as the information is released by Sony Ericsson.
The first point: the long awaited multi-touch will be included in the update for the Gingerbread (Android 2.3). So a lot of apps that already run perfectly in version 2.1 of the system, gain new functions.
For example, Google Maps, you can change the perspective and view of the map even more clearly the projection of the 3D buildings, when they become available in the area that is viewed by the user.
Preview Track for more important points explained, as the changes and what does not change the operation of the X10. Until then.
I think there'll be a message from Sony which says: The information from SE Brazil is wrong, there won't be any updates.
But it would be cool to get that update.
doesn't 2.3 require 512mb ram?
There's a 2.3 custom rom for the X10, so it works fine with less than 512MB.

Not positive, but at least the regional branches are being receptive to the idea.
This answer is a little vague... there will be updates, but it is not clear if it is going to show up on X10... maybe they are talking about Xperia arc...

The Arc is coming with 2.3, so it wouldn't be updated to gingerbread. Also, the SE response it to an X10 owner not happy about not updating to 2.2.

A long way off. But it would be nice if they confirm that 2.3 is still on the table and being discussed.
Let's see how it ends
I think it's not real
until Nov 2011 we will have cracked bootloader and Android 4.0 LOL :-D
Wow.. I'm from Brazil and I didn't see that.
It really says "We reported that Sony Ericsson will not release the 2.2 version of Android, but the 2.3 which is expected in October 2011" but I think this is 100% bull**** from the PR person just to shut the customer complain down. Most companies does that on this site.
"...but the 2.3 which is expected in October 2011..."
I really, really, really, really doubt this. Like, why such a random month like October? It's 8 months from now till October, so wtf...
Well, you know it took about 4 months to release 435 FW, with crappy Mediascape pinchzooming and calendar...
So I don't surprised if it would take a year to rollout a 2.3 for SEX10. But I would really surprised if they do this ever ))
Amazing surprise
although im becoming happier with my phone every time i use it. I would love to get 2.3 on here.
After analyzing this, I have a conclusion: it isn't real.
I have some points to say that.
1. SE says that X10 running 2.1 delivers a full good experience for the users, so they'll rather to keep it in that way. They'd supposedly have problems developing a 2.2 version (I think that's just an excuse but... meh), so working in 2.3 for X10 means even more problems for them. They just won't make the effort.
2. I think X10 will be supported only until june or july. Then SE will start to work in the possible next Android version (2.4?) BUT only for Arc, Neo and PlayStation phone. But, in case that an update comes in Q4 of 2011 for X10 it won't be Gingerbread for sure, most likely another ROM build version with some improvements.
3. I don't know about any company to be interested on upgrading a phone that originally came with 1.6 to 2.3, no matter if the phone could be capable to run it. SE won't be the first.
So... Sorry guys, but this will not happen. I had the little hope too when I saw the new.

Android 2.3.4 heading to new Xperia handsets in October

The Android 2.3.3 update has already started to roll out in certain regions as reported yesterday. HDBlog.it is reporting that Italian users will see the Android 2.3.3 update in June (our guess would be next week), which is when it is most likely to roll out to other European countries.
Interestingly, they report that the Android 2.3.4 update will hit the new Xperia handsets in October. We can’t verify this for sure, but HDBlog.it says the information comes direct from Sony Ericsson Italy. Android 2.3.4 will introduce video chat in Google Talk as well as Google Maps 5.1 with 3D, Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions and personalized voice search, and the latest version of Google Books.

What does 2.3.4 offer new?
Visio in gtalk...
But we don't have face camera on Arc
Can't we already upgrade those Google apps? I'm looking forward to improvements in the OS itself. Any?
Mmm,i dont need facebook issues, but really need less camera compression..
good news indeed
Hope they sort out the wifi issues.
This is just a rumour. Nothing official until we hear it from SE.
IMO there's not much in 2.3.4 worth getting excited over on top of 2.3.3, we dont have a front facing camera, and we can already get the latest versions of google apps on the market.
More interesting would be any performance improvements, bugfixes and enhancements that also get incorporated into the new firmware.
first of all let countries such as INDIA get the 2.3.3 update and then maybe we can think about 2.3.4. its really frustrating to know that we are just left like that when ohter countries are getting it and not us.
This is just my opinion
Waiting for 2.3.4 even Arc no face camera i want to try vision on Gtalk

It brings support for dual core processors, but that's hardly of much use to the Arc.

Gingerbread on X10 delayed in August

According to SE blog Gingerbread is delayed in August:
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/06/20/update-on-gingerbread-for-xperia™-x10/
While this is a bad news for X10 owners they have some excuses:
"...March most of the 2011 XperiaTM software functionality from e.g. XperiaTM arc will be included. The UI with the desktop layout and pinch-to-overview gesture will be similar and Gingerbread features like Wi-Fi & USB tethering, App storage on SD-card etc are included. Also the customizable horizontal app tray and the media experience widgets from the 2011 XperiaTM Products are in, including an integrated equalizer in the music player. Of course also apps that require Android versions 2.2 or 2.3 will now be possible to download from Android Market, e.g. Adobe flash."
August is not so far away so let's see. I am not o pressed anymore as I have also my Arc

I actually had faith in SE, but now they've delayed their update I don't care what device they will bring in the future. Also the only improvement of our devs their roms will be the camera. I will move to HTC (Only if they get a nice design) or else I will go to Samsung. They said it's planned for end Q2/begin Q3. August is not the begin but middle of Q3!! I'm very dissapointed as SE customer and I spend my damn money on this phone that will not even kept as updated as a Arc would be.
1.5 years left, and I can finally say Hello to HTC/Samsung and bye SE. I don't care what ever they say, they promised fast updates. Well I see, months of work and still a late release then promised. Also, great customer service. NOT, they can't even reply to your questions, and mostly in a NORMAL way without typefaults.

Want Ice Cream Sandwich? Get it on your 2011 Xperia™ smartphone from mid-April

During Mobile World Congress I was lucky enough to taste an actual Ice Cream Sandwich (or two) at the Google booth, and you’ll all be able to experience this sweet software treat on our 2011 Xperia smartphones, starting with the first models from mid-April.
Our developers have been hard-at-work to ensure we’re on track and the highest standards are met to deliver you the best possible user experience on Xperia 2011 smartphones with the upgrade to Android 4.0 platform release.
The first Xperia models to receive the upgrade will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. For these first models, the rollout will start mid-April and continue over 4-6 weeks.*
Following on, Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive their scoop starting from the end of May/early June.*
We’ll get back to you once the rollout begins to keep you in the loop with progress and to tackle any questions you might have – as I said, please don’t worry if your kit (customized software specific to your operator and handset) isn’t immediately accessible; they will be made available as soon as they’re ready to go.
The latest version of Android 4.0 is a very powerful OS, brimming with new features and functionality, but it also requires more resource from your smartphone and this may impact performance in some user scenarios. To ensure it’s suitable, and performs for your individual needs, my friends at Developer World have taken a closer-look at how Ice Cream Sandwich will change your 2011 Xperia smartphone – check it out here.
Because this update is a significant revamp of some of your phone’s features, we want to make sure you take a conscious and informed decision to upgrade, so that you continue to enjoy optimum experiences from your Xperia smartphone.
Therefore, we’ll only be making it available for download via PC Companion and Bridge for Mac (i.e. not over the air via 3G or WiFi), and you also won’t receive any update requests or notifications.
Again, we will get back to you with more information in mid-April when the rollout begins.
Finally, with regards to our all new Sony Xperia S, which will be upgraded to Android 4.0 starting from the later part of the second quarter, we will get back with more detailed information on timing over the next weeks.
Talk soon, Ant.
*The availability and scheduling of this software upgrade and specific models upgradeable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and carrier requirements.

Thought it was worth posting, for the most of us Xperia Play users won't see full ICS until end of May early June? sigh =\
What??? A new date change??? Now end may/early June??? It was end april/early may!!!
Where is this info from?
Oh, and change the title. You are posting this info on the Xpera Play forum, so the date is not mid-april and makes people think the update will come earlier than expected.

It was posted 3 days ago by sony here: http://blogs.sonymobile.com/product...1-xperia-smartphones-starting-from-mid-april/
Oh thanks, I've been a few days out without internet, that's why I didn't know about this.
This long wait is a bit too much. Now June...
I hate this update method from Android. It should be like Windows. I mean, an unique OS that installs only what it needs, without passing through the hands of another developer (Sony in this case). It's the worst point of Android.
And I repeat to the OP: better change the title of the thread.
i like this, takes it out of verizon's hand (as long as they make a CDMA version that is)
can't wait for the update, will be all over it!

It's the title of the document thought about changing to x play dates but i'd rather keep it the same as Sony
That title is so misleading man, what was the point of posting the article? We already know when ICS will come :S
So what does ICS actually bring to the table?

Yes, it's the title of the document, but that document is for all Xperia users. We are at the Xperia Play forum, so don't post a title with the info of another Xperia because some people will misunderstand it.
Its only misleading if you only read the title and not the article, i'm not changing it, its no big deal geeeezzzz

If i remember correctly it was January, then changed to march, then changed to april or may, and now its end of may or june. See a trend?

For me the HW acceleration is the biggest deal, the browser is incredibly slick, compared to the old one... the UI has a cleaner look and the fonts are more readable, the mail client is a lot better as well.
I did notice the increased RAM usage right of the bat in the beta version but hopefully they'll have worked around this in the final release.
Looking forward to the release

Yeah I hope RAM usage is sorted out and i'm sure the Sony Devs will find a way to fix it. Anyway I don't think the release is far off !
