I'm pretty satisfied with the quality of the onboard camera. I'm actually selling off my DSLR / lenses and using this phone as my sole camera.

holy !!! u kidding me?
u used the tilt shift effect on that camera pro thing rite...
amazingg quality!!!
i have yet to play around with mine!

wow amazing photos there!!

Which app did you use to get the tilt-shift look?
don't sell your DSLR...unless you use Nikon and you want to sell me something cheap

I did the tilt shift in Photoshop because no app really gives me the control I want.
Vignette does a decent job for a generic tilt shift focus and Photoshop Express can modify the colors moderately well to finish it off.
I still prefer doing it manually.

Heading back to SF in a couple weeks.

Haha those pictures are sweet! Glad you got to go to a game though - I haven't been to Qwest this season yet. I should probably fix that when the pre-season ends.

Can't wait to show these to customers. I love selling this phone.

If you are comparing this camera with a DSLR, you are using your DSLR wrong. I think the camera is decent for a camera phone, but this thing doesnt come close to my Canon T2i.

The camera on this phone is great and I really like my phone. But replacing a DSLR with a 5 mpx with a cmos sensor like 10 times smaller is not something I would recommend. But hey, it's your camera right If quality is not your primary concern then why not? As far as quality is concerned, I don't think ill see the sensor in a phone get up to a APSC size anytime soon. Don't misunderstand me, im in no way undermining your decision to do so. Just laying it out straight. I have the Pentax K-x DSLR and the difference in detail is literally night and day. Btw, I love your post processing dude. Great job. Tiltshift is awesome.

it looks almost like you took pictures of miniature sets. Looks great!

Your joking right? This is a great little cam for a cell phone, but not even close to dslr quality.
Cool pics btw... Good subjects for the tilt/shift effect.

Compactness and portability is more important to me now then quality. I have a few L series lenses that I've already sold off. I don't want lug my 20lb setup with me everywhere I go anymore. Something that fits in my pocket is much more desirable (and cheaper).

Disapointed with DROID X camera (photos inside)

The photos that come from this phone litterally sucks.. all my photos come out grainy and pixely. That is with flash on and off. Taking self pics come out even worse. Gets dark and stuff. Would not reccomend this phone for its camera.

You have to be a bit more objective than that.
I have come from an Incredible, EVO, TP2 and have seen the iphone4 pictures.
I think so far the X has better low light performance than everything aside form the iphone. You also want to make sure you have the phone set to 8MP as default it is at 6MP.
Try messing around with the ISO sensitivity, maybe on auto it is selecting too high of an ISO generating a lot of noise.
The device also does a much better job in macro shots as well than any of the other phones. We are not at point and shoot replacement category yet with any of the phones, namely because all the sensors are nothing more than small 10$ units. But they are light years better than a year ago.
I had the nexus one and the pictures that came from those were CRYSTAL clear! I loved them. Now these are all blurry and grainy. Im going to upload examples soon. As you can see none of them come out clear and all have a little grain in them

i think it's safe to say anyone who comments on this forum hasn't bought a phone specifically for the purpose of "talking on it" in quite some time.
the real question is when can they create an app that has my phone making me breakfast?
I kind of understand what the OP is saying, but he should post pics side by side of the Nexus and X.

My DroidX has the exact same problem - black screen on all camera / video apps. I tried factory reset and all, but no use. I took it back to BestBuy and they said they'd replace it once they got their next shipment in (whenever that will be).
Here is a night shot I took with my X
I agree, the camera on this phone isn't all that great, I too get better shots with my N1.
I was aware of this before I bought the phone, seeing all the pictures & videos that've been posted over the past few days, but I decided to go for the phone anyway.
If a camera is a major requirement on your phone I'd get one of the Galaxy S phones, camera is amazing on that.

somehow i woke up this morning and gave it another shot(so to speak) and it worked. i did nothing to change it, just went to sleep. hope yours starts working too...
i bought it partially for the camera. i didn't buy it because it was the best camera on a phone but it is up there. for in door pictures of yourself, you aren't going to be able to tell if its auto focusing correctly. that is one of the issues with the phone is in door auto focusing. you might want to use a mirror to make sure it does it correctly. the camera button is used to focus then capture. you should see the in door quality on the evo, it is the worst lol. and of course the droid x rapes the nexus one on just about everything so finding one thing the nexus one is better at is no surprise.
the galaxy s phones are a good option but they don't have a flash, so who knows how well it will do depending on how dark it is.
6mp vs 8mp
Nevermind.

Surprisingly Nice Camera!

Hi guys, new to the Aria forums. Just wanted to say how impressed I am with this little device. I have an HTC EVO and just received an ARIA as my work phone and I am really loving it. I catch myself using it more than the EVO for a lot. It's definitely a snappy android device!
Craziest thing I noticed right off the bat is how nice shots are on the Aria. The Evo has a pretty lousy camera IMO but when I compared it to the Aria I was really shocked.

Same thing applies for video clips. The Aria wins. Definitely a cool device! It's nice to see a good little smartphone that's not getting as large as the recent devices out.
it seems like the Evo's pic has wrong focus (the bottle is out of focus) and it's a little overexposed.
Anyway, I have only the Aria, it's good to know how it's compared to others. Thanks.
You are right. But I've had the evo since launch, took a lot of pics. Aria still nicer imo. I should snag a more focused shot. Thanks.
It is definitely tough to grab a good focused shot on the EVO.
ARIA:
EVO:
awesome comparison looks like they focused too much on EVO's "speedy" hardware and not enough on the camera quality. i know majority of smartphone buyers want 3 things...1. resononable battery life, 2. easy mass texting 3. and camera quality good enough to replace a digital camera.
I should post two videos in comparison as well. The EVO owners all agree, our "720p camcorders" are lousy.

please do man. i would love to see the comparison and what the hype is about having 720p capabilities. so far as youtube videos go...recording with the standard video recording Aria is fine.
I love HTC and Android devices, and the EVO is a slick device but it is really lacking in a few key areas. Anyway I am away from my PC now so I won't be able to load any vids up. I should do some outdoor stuff because the low light vids I have I would say are borderline unwatchable.
seems to me the weakpoint of the arias video capabilites come not from the actual video, but from the audio capturing.
I just got my Aria, and the camera takes horrible pictures - very blurry (and I hold still and hold my breath). Are there some settings you would recommend?

I recommend Camera 360 Pro - hands down AWESOME for taking photos! You can apply effects that'll make it look like you own a DSLR. And you HAVE to have a very steady hand - there is virtually no image stabilization for these devices despite what options you may see - the "software" image stabilization plain sucks. I usually find something to rest the phone on if at all possible for the best shots.
Here ya go.....
Once i let my camera gather enough dust to yield this picture
I dominated your screen; thats right.
After taking a few pictures with my Aria I was amazed at how crisp my pictures were.

Consistent blurry pictures with flash *big picture warning*

I can actually say I haven't been able to take 1 clear picture with flash. Is there something wrong with my phone? I have a fairly steady hand, I used to be a DSLR photographer and never had any problems. What gives to this? here are some examples, not even a moving object. These pictures are taken stabilized on my knee

R.I.P., Left Shift key.
As a rule, indoor pictures with the Evo are just poor quality. Outside, they're crystal clear, but even with the flash, when you're inside the camera is adjusting the exposure to the ambient light, which means grainy, blurry pics. There are some tweaks you can do to minimize this (white balance, exposure defaults, etc.) but in general it's just not that great.
Same with video: If you're inside, the camcorder drops down to, like, 8-10fps capture. Outside it does much better. It's all about the ambient lighting.
the lighting looks bad, and plus you gotta click in the pic to focus it and then hold down the shutter button untill you see your pic, thats the only way i can take pics

i cant beleive, or i missed, no one pointing this out.
you are friggin shaking in the picture dude.
no picture will look good when there is movement.
but i side with you, my camera compared to my wifes camera is garbage.
my wifes takes consistantly better video and stills than mine does.
mine will show the camera focusing and all it does is focus near then far, then stops, it never stops on the right focus point, you can see where it focuses right on past it.
if there was a hack to allow a slider for focus that would be kick ass.
after some time and practice it would be easy to use the slider for focus.
but my shots such ass, big time.
if i Zoom in it will focus much better than if it isnt.
so i am not sure where the focus point is compared to where you place your finger but it isnt where you place your finger thats for sure.
It sounds like a problem my phone seemed to have in the beginning; it would focus and then stop auto focus a little blurry. I don't know what fixed it, but after I had the phone a few weeks, the issue seemed to go away. Now I can take pretty clear and amazingly focused photos.
As for the iPhone troll, I ignored him as I was on a website viewing some flash content on my phone just after I got done with a video conference on 3G . I then made a phone call and held the phone with both hands without dropping the call.

You do know that the camera tech is almost identical? Only thing that is changing the "quality" of the pictures/video is software + compression.

Ah, so bad! xD
Soooo much noise and artifact in those shots, resolved detail not very good either.
That said, looks like HTCs best camera ever (apart from perhaps the Mozart with its Xenon Flash, but I haven't seen many examples from that handset yet).
I think that mobile phones' cameras are not for the ones who are obsessed with photo quality.
I am sure long years I will prefer to carry a DSLR camera even though I have got a 8 mp camera integrated phone.
i agree buying a phone based on its camera is silly, the only time i have ever used my phone camera was when i got a parking ticket so i took photos of the signage and my car wrote a letter to the council and got off without having to pay
if i know im going to take photos i just take my DSLR

More photos..............
Any chance in taking an evening shot (sunset/sunrise) without flash.
Also if possible another two low light shots with and without flash (basically the same shot for comparison on how well the camera handles low lighting with & without a flash).
Cheers.
Ouch those shots are really poor in terms of quality, noise, too strong noisereduction, chromatic abberation and hell everything.
I'm afraid Nokia N8 wins this round.

You don't need to be obsessed with photo quality to demand more from your mobile phone camera than the Desire HD is offering though. For many of us the camera is quite an important consideration because day to day photography with our phones is part of our regular use (most of us don't carry a DSLR all the time, eh?). Its nice to have shots that are 'good enough' for that kind of casual photography, and many other non-HTC phones offer that.
I won't, and haven't ever, based a decision to buy a phone solely on the camera, but certainly its a consideration, more important for some of us than others (but you can't dictate to others how they come to a decision to get a phone or not).

Pictures taken with the LG G3

I'd like to start this thread as a dedicated place for your camera samples rather than the Z2 vs G3 thread.
The only reason I'm thinking about moving from the M8 to the G3 is for the camera. So let's see em guys! Low light, landscape, HDR, macro.. Post em here.
Go!
I was thinking about doing this too, since most of the world has the G3 now. Hopefully we get some good shots in here. Coming from a GS4, I'll be happy if picture quality is atleast equivalent.

I get the feeling you're sort of a troll.

Not at all. But camera is one of the most important aspects for me

To be fair, I don't think he is trolling. I'm not hugely impressed judging by that gallery and I'm the one who started this thread. I also have a G3 being delivered to me this week so I'm no troll either.
I think my M8 is great, but I wish the camera had more detail hence my interest in the G3. There is no way i'm going to spend my money with Samsung so this is another option.
this sample taken from the gallery posted shows that oil painting effect and not really good detail. I can't see it being a big enough step up from the M8 so far. I'd like to see others people shots though.

It is for me too, which is why I'm going to be pretty pissed if I've been waiting all this time for the G3, and the camera is subpar... :/
This oil aspect = less noise yeah but also blurry texture/details = not so good

LOL? This picture is infinitely better than anything coming from the M7/M8, detail wise. The camera on the M8 is the only reason not to buy that particular phone. It is abysmal.

Buy a Nokia 3310: incredible battery life.
Carry around a DSLR all day: incredible photo's.
All problems solved.
The pictures will improve. The sensor is fine. Relax people, software updates will help.

Quick macro shot not the best light, results are very good.
Note that that's an HDR shot, so it did some photo merging. I would expect some weirdness and loss of detail for those.

I think the Best Camera is still the S5 or iPhone.
LG never really got the software right I think.
