I saw this as well this morning, and there was also an image leaked.
How credible it is I'm not sure but here it is:

Looks Photo-Chopped

Look at the last 2 in 2.2
Its higher than the others. Tis fake

i shall check tomorrow for the info for dx froyo once i get to work.

There was a froyo build leaked for the incredible today so apparently this ia actually a real possibility. Also with the citing of the x running froyo let's hope this is the real deal. I can't wait to see quadrant after we apply froyo. Not that i give a ****. We are still having scores higher than the DInc w/froyo while we are on eclair. I mainly just like to not only say, but prove my x is better and show i made the right decision to come from incredible to x.

Same system version as what we have now? (.604) and yet it's 2.2.
Sounds like a lousy photoshop to me.

so i went to a vzw store and talked to a tech guy, and ill say that it is very rare that u find one that knows as much as us fellas on xda, im by no means a dev or anything but i do have a decent general knowledge. anyways, this guy seemed to know what he was talking aboput and he said it should def be out to the x in the next 2 weeks. he also said that the x was put into production actually 5 weeks early bc vzw needed something else bc of the huge shortages of the incredible. also he said that the phone was actually never intended to have 2.1 software and thats probably why its got several bugs. he said had they actually put it out when it was originally planned it would have been sold off the shelves with froyo. makes sense basically what i took from this is that 2.1 was a placeholder for the phone. with that said hopefully froyo will be far better and truly use the amaxing hardware that this phone has to the fullest of its potential. our benchmarks already blow the doors off of almost everything out there with graphics renderring being absolutely top notch. i mean i average about 1250 on quadrant and thats almost 3 times that of any snapdragon powered phones. with all of that gibberish said, this will soon be a phone to be dealt with. i made the switch from the DInc with the beleif that our great devs over here in the states WILL crack the bootloader issue. cant wait for some effen froyo.

Its been confirmed that a froyo should be coming with that date but not really specified on an exact date from a Verizon Wireless Technical Support Agent.

Anyone think its a coincidence that the DroidX is on back order and wont ship till around the 3rd from VZ? Betcha those come with FroYo......right about the time that the OTA happens...

Boy I sure hope so. My X has had a few hiccups waking up and they say my replacement will be here by wednesday at the latest!

Seems to be a looot of DINC hate in this thread, lol
IDK as far as a few of the top posts are concered, im scoring in the 1400s with my Froyo DINC on benchmarks and my Linpacks are in the 40s, so i dont beleive that above post that says the X is faster then the DINC even though its still running 2.1... we all know the X has suffered from random lag issues here and there for appariently no reason as well which would get old from day to day use
I was choosing between the DINC and the X myself at one point.. However the X is going to be ***substantially*** harder to root and flash a custom recovery image on, and therefore the freedom of the DINC won me over versus the locked down nature that the X is going to suffer from..
the DINC is already rooted with many custom roms and custom overclock kernals available, and soon we will have permanent nand unlock S-Off as well for a truly 100% unlocked device, i dont see that anywere in the X's future, certainly not anytime soon... basically because Motorola gave a big FU to rooters where as HTC has been a lot more lenient

The Droid X IS rooted.

I don't have any dinc hate i own one. I just want people to realize that A) benchmarks not all that important.B) neither moto or verizon is going to send out a froyo update that actually slows ur phone. When i referred to benchmarks i meant with both phones on 2.1. And yes at that point the x is just that mu h faster. On quadrant and linpack. Also the laginess seems to be remedied by alternative launchers. Sorry if i sound like im hating on dinc. I do indeed love my dinc.

Why not just wait

Ok i know most here like myself want froyo pretty badly. Much respect to the devs here and cm for bringing us froyo but honestly until htc releases the kernel whats the point. From the froyo flashes i have ran they all are nice but there isnt any performance increase over the rest of the roms that have been released so far. Yes according to linpack and quadrant the current froyo is faster but in real world situations it isnt.
This is no way a bash to the developers. They have worked extremely hard so far to get us what we do have. I just say to wait for the kernel to be released and then let the magic happen.

I like trying new things. I just don't like that eugene and other devs release broken roms and tell us not to "complain" when all we are doing is stating what's broken
Let it be known I'm not trying to start anything. I guess its a reason to wait for offical release because nothin will be broken

Im not necessarily saying to wait for an official release. Take cyanogen mod 6 for example. They are putting alot of hard work into getting froyo to us but on the stock kernel. Once the kernel is released then there going to have more work on their hands.

*double take* What? Is everyone here daft? They do this out of the kindness of their cockles and tease us about not complaining and then make updates, anyway! I'm having fun, son! Lighten up, homeslice. Let's kiss.
Personally I really like that these ROMs are out. It's like a ray of hope that 2.2 is coming, regardless of what T-Mobile or HTC decide to do. The one thing I've been really irked about when it comes to the carriers and handset makers is that they don't seem as interested in new technology. When T-Mo says that the myTouch is going to get froyo, I am kind of thinking that there's no reason to hold your breath. Maybe froyo will come, maybe next year, and honestly I don't want to wait that long. So it's nice to see even these ROMs because it means that the stable version is coming, and not on a T-Mo schedule...
im waiting !!!! lol
First off, I really appreciate all the hard work the devs are putting in. I kinda notice that the other new devices are getting more love then the slide but I guess that's due to its lack of "hype" or maybe since it's still fairly new.
I must say I'm joining the waiting boat though. My first slide was a breeze to root and mod. Unfortunately, I took it in for exchange (squeeky battery door and dust under the screen). The new one hasn't been so easy to mod. I managed to root and flash Eugene's SMR5r1, which I had on the old phone and loved. Since then all attempts to get into Clockwork have failed. I'm chillin' until there's an easier method.

Did you flash Eng-Build? If you didn't then you won't be able to get into Clockwork.
you guys complain way too much. threads like these make the devs shut it down all together. eugene373 has done that before and if these bs threads keep getting created then we can for sure hang it up and wait for the official release. so just be a lil...(f*ck that), A LOT more appreciative of the devs and their work on froyo
we put out buggy alphas because you cant wait.
we say no feedback because we know its broken. we also run our own roms so we are also testing and fixing on fly

Anyways, I'm waiting for the official 2.2 as of now, I don't mind the wait, and I don't really like the roms put out right now, I enjoy using the custom Sense UI, that's one of the main reasons I got the slide. I really hope a dev starts improving on the espresso UI more. I appreciate all of the other work devs are doing, but it's too much vanilla android for my taste. After having a G1 and MT3G for a year you kind of want something new

Other phones getting froyo .. not vibrant yet

So other phones are getting froyo, even a leaked version is out and we are stuck with nothing for the vibrant. The Droid 2 has froyo already and it just came out a few days ago. What's up with that? And I'm guessing the only thing we can expect new is browser speed and flash anyhow right? What about Samsung manually fixing that damn lag fix themselves and fully using the power of this device?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Uhm. there was a leaked version of 2.2 for the Vibrant (international version). What exactly is the point that you're trying to get at?
No there are more features.. JIT is one of the most important ones.
Do some research before making your point, Samsung has already said Froyo is due near September. Be patient. Root your phone if you want to use the "Lagfix."
There are also 10 more threads asking the same thing, we don't need any more of these threads. It'll be out sooner than you know it as long as you stop focusing so much on it.
Excuse u I'm free to generally speak about whatever I want. Like I said, Samsung should have set their phone to maximum performance when releasing it and there wouldn't even have to be a lag fix. I see there's a nationalal release of froyo for devs but I'm curious as to how the Droid 2 got a working froyo already. And don't come in here telling me what I can type. What the heck is wrong with u? I'm smart when it comes to these phones and its unfortunate that u cant understand my point. Get off of my topic

If your "smart when it comes to these phones" you would know that motorola has been working on 2.2 since the second it came out. Samsung has a lot more going on with the UI than motorola does, so its not as easy for them to just get it out. Your ignorance to posting the SAME DAMN QUESTION that multiple people have asked is where he gets the right to tell you not to make another pointless thread. It will comes when it comes, until then quit crying.
You know Motorola Droid 2 is the only phone to be released on launch date with Android 2.2? September is a pretty quick date for a Froyo 2.2 compared to:
myTouch 3G (Stock): 1.6
T-Mobile G1 (Stock): 1.6
Motorola Cliq: 1.6
------> Sony Ericsson Xperia: 1.6
------> Dell Streak 5: 1.6
IF ANYTHING Samsung is doing a great job compared to Dell and Sony which will probably be getting Froyo at a LATER date.
The Galaxy S is ranked #1 as highest benchmarks with the lagfix. So I don't get what you mean by "maximium performance." If a number on your Android is bothering you then you should of purchased a Nexus One or a DROID 2 instead. Droid 2 has got a "working froyo" because it LAUNCHED with it and when the phone was being made Motorola, Verizon were probably working together with Google to launch this.
And since you said that you have rights to publish this, I have my rights to express my opinion as well and I think that all these posts saying that the Vibrant isn't on 2.2 isn't going to make the vibrant get it any faster. The phone is relatively new and developers are getting more familiar with Samsung.
Just enjoy the phone for what it is right now, there are certainly a lot more to do on it than a new version of Android. Coming from a G1 (even though I had 2.2) this is a significant milestone for me on how smooth the device is.
Edit: Agreed with fenixnr, pretty much what I said.

Unfortunately for you, this is a forum, and there are rules and etiquette to abide by.
Your point is easily understood - you want froyo, like NOW. Just chill out, be patient, and learn some manners.
Thanks.
Definitely agree with the others on this. Froyo will come soon enough. Samsung has stated it. There's nothing you can do to change that. The other thing you need to take into consideration between the Droid 2 and the Vibrant.......Droid 2 - Motorola. Vibrant - Samsung.
Different companies.
Do we really need another thread about this? Froyo won't come any faster just coming in here and *****ing about it, so why don't you just relax, do something productive and have fun while waiting for the update. It will be here soon.
Take a deep breath ... woosahh ... woosah .. Froyo will come soon enough ..
I'm clearly abiding by the rules. My topic didn't ask a question, I'm simply getting opinions from you guys as to why froyo was released so quickly on the Droid 2 but I understand now... I realized that Motorola released froyo for the regular Droid a little while ago *well not full release* but I can't stand when someone comes in here and feel the need to type rude stuff to people. I'm grown. If the topic seems pointless like others then allow it to die off and not reply to it if you don't have anything respectful to say. Rude people I yell you. HAHA, this is awesome. When has any phone, or electronic device for that matter, been released to "its maximum performance" and or have no problems in the history of time? Would you really want that? Have no room for improvement?
While you wait for 2.2 to drop (when ever it does) I would suggest go through the dev forum and try some of great stuff thats out already. Had my phone for 3 weeks and after spending some time all my problems are GONE! Nothing is ever going to perfect, even when 2.2 comes out your phone still might not make you happy. haha

another reason Moto was quick to release froyo was the fact that they only have to test it for one carrier, Verizon. Samsung needs to test froyo for all the carriers that offer the Galaxy.....which is basically all of them.

simple solution for those who "can't" wait
return your Samsung device and purchase a device that has Froyo, maybe the Nexus one or whatever else has Froyo already out for it.
Problem solved.. then you will have to find the next thing in life to complain about.

maybe you are not well informed but, the n1 is no longer for sale to the general public, and the ones found in the developers market are back ordered....
I love my vibrant, but its kinda upsetting that my 8 month old phone did so many things better than the phone with the best hardware on the market.

Is the epic development thread dead?

We have lost our only true developer...we probably have about 2 or 3 working roms in total....and everytime someone tries to add something new they either get trashed or treated like crap by this so called "community"..i really wish this was more like vibrant or captivate threads...but i guess its not happening
Maybe we need to pony up the cash and buy a dev an epic.

Quit your yappin. Its not dead, devs are just waiting for a better working Froyo leak.
Android Central: We know everyone out there is waiting on Froyo for their Fascinates, Epics, Captivates, and Vibrants. Samsung has given the carriers their code, and the carriers are testing. We are waiting on them now.
Are you serous? There are devs still here, and they are busy. The only true dev? were you using andromeda before froyo came out? Why don't you be patient until the official froyo is out, the work is coming! Its hard to develop a rom without thee source code and no one is putting their time into 2.1 this late?

It's not that the dev community is dead. It's more like the calm before the storm. the anticipated official release of froyo is what everyone preparing for. Some are busy cooking roms for the leaked releases while some are digging into other similar official releases to hopefully get a jump start for the epic release.

I've been worried about this as well. While "the only true dev" might be an exaggeration, noobnl was one of our greatest assets. Isn't his Eclair ROM what basically all other ROMs are based off of? How about his Andromeda kernel? One-Click Root? His work with ClockworkMod Recovery? CyanogenMod? I'm hoping collectively all our amazing devs can fill his ginormous shoes. His innovations gave us so much.

Ok I may be wrong about "the only true dev thing"...I just want to understand why our community is isolated from each other...just take a quick peak at the facinate thread,a phone that came out almost a month after the epic...the development area its going smothly there. Even our own carrier has left us on the backdoor...how many updates had we have ...2....compare to 8 0r 7 on the EVO.

One-Click Root: A script. Very simple. The hack on the adb daemon (rageagainstthecage) that it uses works on every > 2.1 Android phone and was done by a brilliant dev at c-skills.blogspot.com I believe.
Andromeda: Another kernel. Mine wasn't based of his at all. Devins is based off mine, and possibly a few of noobs tweaks haven't checked. Hero's wasn't based on it. Not sure about fluffkernel or any of the others.
Clockwork: Point for you. He did get the ramdisk working with it, but koush did most of the work on the final version.
Cyanogenmod: WesGarner's work for the Vibrant, but with an Epic kernel & ramdisk.
Not saying he didn't do anything, but I AM saying that people blow everything out of proportion without realizing how simple some of it is, either from ignorance or just misunderstanding.

There are lots of great developers/modders on the EPIC forum including noobl. Right now, without the final release of FROYO and without FROYO sources, everyone is on a standby.
For the 2.1 ROMS, EPIC Exp and Syndicate are both great 2.1 ROMS. There are several great 2.1 kernals as well. With so many great 2.1 options, not much more that can be tweaked that is truly interesting.
If you're interested in playing with beta 2.2 roms, there are few great options there as well. In fact, within 24 hours of the DK18 leak, there were three ROMS to choose from. Not bad.
Regardless, you'll see this forum pick up pretty quick after the final release of 2.2 and 2.2 sources.
Of course by the time 2.2 comes out for EPIC, google will release gingerbread and everyone will be asking when gingerbread will be coming out for EPIC. Not going to hold my breath for that one.
I came from the hero and that dev community was amazing. The debs here are great but it definitely isn't as exciting as I feel the hero rout experience was. I recall thread suggestions and devs quickly entering with an affirmative answer or why it wasnt possible. I made a simple request about the vanilla lock screen and never heard anything. I do love what the devs have done though.

Might as well get a head start now. Not trying to spread doom and gloom, but that date will sadly come and go before we see Froyo.

Please tell us the reason for that is Samsung is actually trying to fix all the issues..and not them implementing say bloat ware or being slackers,,right?
Selling your EPICs or switch them back for the EVO won't help minimize the problem that we have here....we need to think of a way to get the drama out of this forums ....to keep it clean of negativate things, come on pleople...this isn't the place to start whining cus your girlfriend dumped you or cuz you personal issues with yourself....we all have different reason to be here....beta testing, developing, to improve our phones or even to mess with it up to point we either break our phone or make them better than anybody else's
A lot of what you guys are seeing is vert similar to the moment community. When I had my moment things always got dramatic. I think it was mainly out of frustration towards sprint. You see it even now there are rumors that froyo is being pushed back but sprint won't say a damn word either way and in the end they will conduct themselves in a way that will make epic owners feel slighted their pr dept must suck. I say e ask ban together and make this pioneer great because like with rhett moment spring isn't going to make out great our dev's are going too. And fyi i don't think noob will ever be gone he just went underground. He's working behind the scenes he loves deving too much

Its amazing the maturity of the people on the Epic forums compared to the Evo forums ... it's ridiculous
woot woot!
Ditto on the Within. I haven't truely made up my mind just yet (although I hate the screen, cams and battery life on the evo3d). I don't get my upgrade til September (epic release date) after calling Sprint about premier gold vs silver (thanks again guys!) and my plan is to wait about a month (if necessary) to see what Cyanogenmod prospects look like on both platforms. If the within has good progress at least being made, within for sure. But if it's a small dev community (don't get me wrong, ours is certainly quality over quantity ) again working on a very different us variant with issues, it may be enough to make me take the Evo3D. I love its resolution like you wouldn't believe, but I think the screen looks like crap because of the 3d surface on top of it. Plus qualcomm crappy battery life, 720p 5mp only cameras... should be interesting!
I don't think I'm alone in saying though the epic taught me a very valuable lesson. Never buy on release day. Its hard I know but the epic is great, we've STILL got great devs hard at work, and gingerbread and flash look better than on a mac (which almost always suck with fash). I'll wait it out a bit. If I upgrade it'll be mostly for software support, mods and a bit more running ram for multitasking.

This is basically my thoughts ... i think im going to wait ... but you can order the Evo 3d online now ...

Mystery's ability to do what he did with froyo makes me wonder what we'll get from ACS regarding GB. This release was sick. It's the froyo we were all seeking. I think we're on track to see our phones rise as their reliability continue to cruise. I know people still joining older phones for cost reasons. We'll have another wave enter our community down the road. It's all cyclical. The Within crowd will be demanding before they learn patience. Be strong, grasshoppers.
That reminds me, in preparation for my trip to Amsterdam and Germany I was updating my old TP2 (for the sim card slot, last year I got 6.5-7mbps on vodafone germany, for ten euros for the month prepaid! Way faster than 3g sprint, kinda funny). They still have active development going on! Its awesome, I love the community! June 6th for the rom, then they've got a very nice froyo (and somewhat unstable gingerbread) in both nand flash or haret boot. Amazing. That and the wpa-supplicant ad-hoc hack for the epic and I'll be tethering my epic to the tp2, google voice and skype, ten euros prepaid internet and I'll be good to go! Did I mention I love the community?!

So SamsungJohn is back and since the Vibrant has not received an update to Gingerbread I think we might get a final answer as to whether not we are getting it.
(I honestly couldn't care less I'm happy with my phone but it would be nice to know for sure).
So SamsungJohn, do you have any information like you did with Froyo?

Yea sorry to burst your bubble, but im pretty sure his big announcements are going to be to announce upcoming nexus devices.
I doubt we are going to see an official Gingerbread release for the vibrant because it doesnt just pop up over night, an official release require extensive testing, the likes of which usually result in leaks or at the very least somewhat substantiated rumors. If you recall in our wait for Froyo we saw countless leaks over the span of several months.
I for one cannot wait to see the announcement for the prime and other nexus devices. Im through with carrier branded devices.

Ah my bad, i only read the first page :x lol
I got his attention:
SamsungJohn,
I'm not meaning to harrass you at all, but is there any way you could shed some light on whether or not the Samsung Vibrant will be getting a gingerbread update?
It has been in question for a long time now, seeing as the other SGS devices got it... we are all kind of wondering why it was left in the dust. I mean, Gingerbread improves on the CPU the Vibrant is equipped with, bringing it to its full potential more-so than Froyo.
I, and many others purchased the phone on a 2 year contract with updates in mind. Its only a year old phone, it seems kind of rude that it has already been abandoned (if that is the case) I know you don't make all the decisions there at Samsung, but If you can see it from our point of view, could you maybe speak with someone that does have control over the situation?
I love the Hardware, beautiful screen, and Samsung in general... But please John, tell them they are going to lose future customers if they drop phones after such a short amount of time. It irritates people who bought a phone with the SGS label, and already people are seeing it as inferior to device to those of the same timeframe, such as the G2... Because HTC has kept the phone updated and their customers happy, Many of them will return to HTC for their next device.
Thanks for your time, and being a part of this community.

Maybe your energy should be focused at Tmobile, who had proven track record of not providing updates.
I do believe that going with non carrier based phones is the correct track.

I am not sure what SamsungJohn's official title or job is but he is certainly not in customer relations. He has never given a decent straight forward answer. I almost think I would rather have a lower quality phone that gets updates than a high quality hardware phone that never gets updated.
I love my phone but not releasing updates has made me think my next phone and tablet will not be a Samsung device. I have a 2.2.1 wifi Galaxy Tab that has never seen an update and a Vibrant with only one update. And to be fair, the update to FroYo on the Vibrant was something that it should have shipped with to begin with. To compound the issue we get no response or time frames on any updates. That is just horrible customer service.
Thanks for the hardworking of T-mobile or Samsung,
I wont get any Android products without "Nexus" in their ass
I will stay with T-mobile because it suits my current needs. 2 lines $130, unlimited un-throttled data on both; but I will never buy another phone that is not Nexus.
I almost rather be the douche with an Iphone, know it's being locked down, have less features, etc, but know I will have a working gps and support in 6 months. Being able to make calls....well they are all just holding the phone wrong anyway.

I'm really not sure when people are going to get it. It's Tmobile to blame, not Samsung.
