Why not just wait - myTouch 3G Slide General

Ok i know most here like myself want froyo pretty badly. Much respect to the devs here and cm for bringing us froyo but honestly until htc releases the kernel whats the point. From the froyo flashes i have ran they all are nice but there isnt any performance increase over the rest of the roms that have been released so far. Yes according to linpack and quadrant the current froyo is faster but in real world situations it isnt.
This is no way a bash to the developers. They have worked extremely hard so far to get us what we do have. I just say to wait for the kernel to be released and then let the magic happen.

I like trying new things. I just don't like that eugene and other devs release broken roms and tell us not to "complain" when all we are doing is stating what's broken
Let it be known I'm not trying to start anything. I guess its a reason to wait for offical release because nothin will be broken

Im not necessarily saying to wait for an official release. Take cyanogen mod 6 for example. They are putting alot of hard work into getting froyo to us but on the stock kernel. Once the kernel is released then there going to have more work on their hands.

*double take* What? Is everyone here daft? They do this out of the kindness of their cockles and tease us about not complaining and then make updates, anyway! I'm having fun, son! Lighten up, homeslice. Let's kiss.

Personally I really like that these ROMs are out. It's like a ray of hope that 2.2 is coming, regardless of what T-Mobile or HTC decide to do. The one thing I've been really irked about when it comes to the carriers and handset makers is that they don't seem as interested in new technology. When T-Mo says that the myTouch is going to get froyo, I am kind of thinking that there's no reason to hold your breath. Maybe froyo will come, maybe next year, and honestly I don't want to wait that long. So it's nice to see even these ROMs because it means that the stable version is coming, and not on a T-Mo schedule...

im waiting !!!! lol

First off, I really appreciate all the hard work the devs are putting in. I kinda notice that the other new devices are getting more love then the slide but I guess that's due to its lack of "hype" or maybe since it's still fairly new.
I must say I'm joining the waiting boat though. My first slide was a breeze to root and mod. Unfortunately, I took it in for exchange (squeeky battery door and dust under the screen). The new one hasn't been so easy to mod. I managed to root and flash Eugene's SMR5r1, which I had on the old phone and loved. Since then all attempts to get into Clockwork have failed. I'm chillin' until there's an easier method.

Did you flash Eng-Build? If you didn't then you won't be able to get into Clockwork.

you guys complain way too much. threads like these make the devs shut it down all together. eugene373 has done that before and if these bs threads keep getting created then we can for sure hang it up and wait for the official release. so just be a lil...(f*ck that), A LOT more appreciative of the devs and their work on froyo

we put out buggy alphas because you cant wait.
we say no feedback because we know its broken. we also run our own roms so we are also testing and fixing on fly

Anyways, I'm waiting for the official 2.2 as of now, I don't mind the wait, and I don't really like the roms put out right now, I enjoy using the custom Sense UI, that's one of the main reasons I got the slide. I really hope a dev starts improving on the espresso UI more. I appreciate all of the other work devs are doing, but it's too much vanilla android for my taste. After having a G1 and MT3G for a year you kind of want something new

I kind of agree! I love the stock sense ui and was pretty disappointed when devs strayed from 2.1 sense roms. After trying a couple of froyo roms.. I've decided I'm sticking with smr4 with the sense ui. I WOULD go back to stock but I would miss a2sd waaaaaay too much.
Waiting for official froyo.

Is the epic development thread dead?

We have lost our only true developer...we probably have about 2 or 3 working roms in total....and everytime someone tries to add something new they either get trashed or treated like crap by this so called "community"..i really wish this was more like vibrant or captivate threads...but i guess its not happening
Maybe we need to pony up the cash and buy a dev an epic.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Quit your yappin. Its not dead, devs are just waiting for a better working Froyo leak.
Android Central: We know everyone out there is waiting on Froyo for their Fascinates, Epics, Captivates, and Vibrants. Samsung has given the carriers their code, and the carriers are testing. We are waiting on them now.
Are you serous? There are devs still here, and they are busy. The only true dev? were you using andromeda before froyo came out? Why don't you be patient until the official froyo is out, the work is coming! Its hard to develop a rom without thee source code and no one is putting their time into 2.1 this late?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
It's not that the dev community is dead. It's more like the calm before the storm. the anticipated official release of froyo is what everyone preparing for. Some are busy cooking roms for the leaked releases while some are digging into other similar official releases to hopefully get a jump start for the epic release.

I've been worried about this as well. While "the only true dev" might be an exaggeration, noobnl was one of our greatest assets. Isn't his Eclair ROM what basically all other ROMs are based off of? How about his Andromeda kernel? One-Click Root? His work with ClockworkMod Recovery? CyanogenMod? I'm hoping collectively all our amazing devs can fill his ginormous shoes. His innovations gave us so much.

Ok I may be wrong about "the only true dev thing"...I just want to understand why our community is isolated from each other...just take a quick peak at the facinate thread,a phone that came out almost a month after the epic...the development area its going smothly there. Even our own carrier has left us on the backdoor...how many updates had we have ...2....compare to 8 0r 7 on the EVO.

One-Click Root: A script. Very simple. The hack on the adb daemon (rageagainstthecage) that it uses works on every > 2.1 Android phone and was done by a brilliant dev at c-skills.blogspot.com I believe.
Andromeda: Another kernel. Mine wasn't based of his at all. Devins is based off mine, and possibly a few of noobs tweaks haven't checked. Hero's wasn't based on it. Not sure about fluffkernel or any of the others.
Clockwork: Point for you. He did get the ramdisk working with it, but koush did most of the work on the final version.
Cyanogenmod: WesGarner's work for the Vibrant, but with an Epic kernel & ramdisk.
Not saying he didn't do anything, but I AM saying that people blow everything out of proportion without realizing how simple some of it is, either from ignorance or just misunderstanding.
It's the holidays. Cut them some slack.

There are lots of great developers/modders on the EPIC forum including noobl. Right now, without the final release of FROYO and without FROYO sources, everyone is on a standby.
For the 2.1 ROMS, EPIC Exp and Syndicate are both great 2.1 ROMS. There are several great 2.1 kernals as well. With so many great 2.1 options, not much more that can be tweaked that is truly interesting.
If you're interested in playing with beta 2.2 roms, there are few great options there as well. In fact, within 24 hours of the DK18 leak, there were three ROMS to choose from. Not bad.
Regardless, you'll see this forum pick up pretty quick after the final release of 2.2 and 2.2 sources.
Of course by the time 2.2 comes out for EPIC, google will release gingerbread and everyone will be asking when gingerbread will be coming out for EPIC. Not going to hold my breath for that one.
I came from the hero and that dev community was amazing. The debs here are great but it definitely isn't as exciting as I feel the hero rout experience was. I recall thread suggestions and devs quickly entering with an affirmative answer or why it wasnt possible. I made a simple request about the vanilla lock screen and never heard anything. I do love what the devs have done though.

Please tell us the reason for that is Samsung is actually trying to fix all the issues..and not them implementing say bloat ware or being slackers,,right?
Selling your EPICs or switch them back for the EVO won't help minimize the problem that we have here....we need to think of a way to get the drama out of this forums ....to keep it clean of negativate things, come on pleople...this isn't the place to start whining cus your girlfriend dumped you or cuz you personal issues with yourself....we all have different reason to be here....beta testing, developing, to improve our phones or even to mess with it up to point we either break our phone or make them better than anybody else's
A lot of what you guys are seeing is vert similar to the moment community. When I had my moment things always got dramatic. I think it was mainly out of frustration towards sprint. You see it even now there are rumors that froyo is being pushed back but sprint won't say a damn word either way and in the end they will conduct themselves in a way that will make epic owners feel slighted their pr dept must suck. I say e ask ban together and make this pioneer great because like with rhett moment spring isn't going to make out great our dev's are going too. And fyi i don't think noob will ever be gone he just went underground. He's working behind the scenes he loves deving too much

Great to be a G2, N1 and somewhat Nexus S owner... sorry mt4g and vibrant owners lol

First before commenting angry non vanilla users check out the second paragraph in the article. Lol I guess it really does suck right now to be the owner of anything not vanilla android since you really wont get to experience the real changes to the android infrastructure in 2.3. On top of that most people aren't really that impressed with the nexus s and the omission of certain key features ( no hspa+ or micro sd slot... wtf?). In my opinion, this make the G2 the clear upgrade for anyone looking to take advantage of the refined features on 2.3. Just reinforces my appreciation for the design quality and overall performance of my awesome G2! Such a sick phone
http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2010/12/android-2-3-gingerbread-review-better-than-fruitcake/
The G2 isn't really vanilla, but I have a feeling if T-Mobile sees the feedback they might just give us 2.3 completely vanilla.
That'd be SO cool.
Sorry dude. That would be awesome, but is never gonna happen...

No the debate was that all the apps that came preinstalled made it seems like it was a skin, but it wasn't. They are all google made apps. There aren't any htc made widgets, skins or apps. So this is vanilla lol. Just because there are more refined and finished google apps available with the release of the G2 than there were with the G1 and N1, does not mean the g2 is any less vanilla the the N1 or G1.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Actually, no, the G2 isnt completely vanilla. It has nothing to do with the installed apps or the skin. A few weeks back Cyanogen himself said that the G2 incorporated a lot of random HTC frameworks (as in stuff that you cant see, but its there) and the G2 is not at all "stock" android.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Alright guys, Cyanogen himself said that the stock image isn't COMPLETELY stock, it does have HTC bits in there. But then again, the UI and everything else is stock. If you browse around your phone's filesystem, you will find some sort of HTC files.
Ah I see I did not know this. I was talking about the debate over the amount of installed apps on the phone along with the skin. Appreciate your info!

Yeah, I've always known that Samsung (and other brands, like LG) haven't historically had as strong a user community as the HTC devices (although that seems to be changing). But I don't think the fact that the G2 has an unskinned "vanilla" version of Android is going to make much of a difference in terms of custom ROM support (just "official" updates). I expect there to be custom Gingerbread ROMs for the Desire Z, as well as other HTC devices in no time at all.

Now onto the post. Frankly I couldnt give 2 s#@$s about 4g since I dont have it in my are nor will it be here for at least a year. Also a TON of people dont care either even if they do have it because its a battery hog.
Soooooooo, instead of demanding something thats not possible, create your own rom with 4G or accept what there is and be frickin happy you have an option over the stock crap in the first place.

thank you based god
an explanation
4g and hdmi are built into sense 1.0. So if a rom is sense based it has 4g working. If its asop (cm, miui not really asop but kinda ) or sense 2.0 like warm z then those things dont work. BUT as was stated team win developed a way to use 4g on cm roms. Theoretically this could spread to other roms such as how using the camera spread from cm to miui ect.... who knows soon because of the hard work of these devs all roms will have 4g. So just enjoy and stop complaining about things you get for free.
lol i read it the same way, i thought he was just pulling humor from the people saying they won't use a custom rom due to no 4g.
You will find in due time that as of right now, 4g is just a meh unless you really do use it. I lived in 2 cities that have 4g, Orlando and Raleigh and when I got my phone, i was just like you. omgggggg 4g or i won't use!!!11
But in all seriousness, there hasnt been many occasions where i actually needed it. Sometimes when I wanted to view or show a youtube video in high quality and I wasnt in a wifi area... and that's all I can really think of. But like mentioned above, if you want to keep 4g on, your battery will suffer. So regardless, if i'm paying for it or not, i'm not really using it at all. It's like 5% of my usage.

You realize AOSP roms have to reverse engineer and completely build from the ground up drivers that do the same thing as those manufactured by a multi billion dollar corporation. And they have to do it at night after they get off work. For free. You do realize this, right?
Also your timing couldn't be worse as CM7 now officially has 4g. And yes they built it themselves.

Am in Chicago...haven't chosen a 4G Rom in a while.
4G's a crock for me. Its only significantly faster with a very strong signal (which is less than half the time). And its a bigger crock indoors. So plain not worth it.
(I don't go speedtest apps btw (4G always looks good there)...I use some standard sites and measure the time it takes to download..
4G sucks.
I should say SPRINT 4G sucks. T-Mobile speeds much closer to 4G capability.
Will be breaking contract to take up Galaxy SII or LG this spring.
Since you're feeling quick to judge and critique... I'd like to remind you that 3G data connectivity and WiFi are BUILT INTO ANDROID.
4G on the other hand, has to be completely built by scratch by the ROM developer.
I don't deny the value of including 4G in a ROM, but please know that a developer might spend hundreds of hours trying to get it working / writing it from scratch.

I too want try out Warm Z but Im gonna wait until it has 4g. Kings Ultra is just fine right now, been rocking it since monday.
wingzfan said:
Is it just me or does the title and the image both suggest he doesnt want 4G yet is demanding it be implemented?
Now onto the post. Frankly I couldnt give 2 s#@$s about 4g since I dont have it in my are nor will it be here for at least a year. Also a TON of people dont care either even if they do have it because its a battery hog.
Soooooooo, instead of demanding something thats not possible, create your own rom with 4G or accept what there is and be frickin happy you have an option over the stock crap in the first place.

Obviously your NOT very good at reading. If you were you'd see that i clearly said this was NOT a complaint. Merely a rant. And i also gave praise to guys that dedicate their time to develop these thing. Sorry dude...your post was unneeded. Read carefully next time.

Again a NON-reader. I clearly stated that i understand building 4g from scratch wasnt a 2 second process. I also CLEARLY stated that i give props to all the guys that spend their time doing this. I even wish i had the time to do it on my own!!!
You guys PREACH reading but cant read a simple post or even distinguish a simple complaint from a rant to save your lives. Its all good tho!! Love you ****ers & this board!!!!

Um, what's the difference between a complaint and a rant? If there is a difference at all, isn't a rant worse than a complaint?
There are TONS of ROMs with 4g to choose from. Also, just b/c you say something isn't a complaint, doesn't mean you can just say anything after that and it won't be perceived as one.
Kinda like:

[Q] Pace of ROM development?

If this question just irritates anyone, mods feel free to delete it.
I'm curious at what is holding up the pace of ROM development for the Shift? There have been some nice quality ROMs out so far (BCNice in particular, some great work), but it seems like development has stalled slightly. Is there something that HTC hasn't released yet, or some major firmware hurdle?
Remember, this is NOT a complaint about the devs, far from it, just curiosity.
I here where you are coming from. I don't have a shift I have an evo. But if you really feel that strongly about it you should try just making your own. When I was using sense rom's that's what I did. I was able to customize the rom how I wanted put in what I wanted and so on. You should try that.
And please don't see this as me flaming you or hope this didn't offend you in any way, just a suggestion.

I had thought about that, but it's not so much that I don't like the ROMs available, it just seemed like development abruptly slowed down, and I was curious why.
EDIT: This was @caguirr4, btw

Oh, I'm not debating how hard the devs work...they do great work and once my money situation settles I plan on donating to several of them.
I was just wondering if they had hit some kind of a development roadblock, like I saw when I had an Epic and Samsung refused to release the kernel source.
Sorry if I was mis-understood...this thread was never meant to be a shot at any of the devs.

Ohhh. I see. Yeah I don't see that kind of a stand still in the rom development for the evo I mean heck we have an influx of roms in our development section. But I say just give it some time. The shift is still a fairly new device. And I am sure that when it happens it will be like someone opened the flood gates.lol.

i do believe the holdup is a fully working recovery. the ones we have are....temperamental....to say the least. but patience. all good things have yet to come
in the mean time, feel free to pick up a .zip and start developing...you never know unless you try
Hang around IRC. Good stuff going on in there. Still some beta stage stuff (which works quite well), but before you know it, they'll be here.
I like a lot of what has been done. When we get to the point of a fully working 2.3 I'll do cartwheels...and I can't do cartwheels...
Either way, you get the point.
I was just about to pose this question as well. I have the Evo and my brother has the Evo shift and I was curious about the rom development support. I hope someone is able to do a One Click Root as well since i'm really not comfortable not using it.
Would love to see Myn's roms on here, cm7 and miui on here. We both would definitely donate.
I also wondered what happened. It was like we got S-OFF and the kernel source and people tinkered with the phone for 2 weeks and just stopped.

There are posts on xda to cover almost everything..of my knowledge there is nothing over coding...but may be a few things about making kernels and the sort..not flaming bout anyone..just a huge peeve of mine to hear people complain without a better suggestion..I did like the idea of contributing an evo to cyanogen to get some dev work out of it but people rush something only a limited people have knowledge over so why not educate yourself

I think the OP is questioning exactly what everyone's been up to. Care to shed some light on where he's heading (Sense 2.0, CM7, etc)
Was wondering the same thing. Keep checking here everyday and nothing.

A Dying Breed?

I've noticed over the past week that thes mt4g forums are getting less & less. It kinda bums me out and has me wondering if soon, this phone will die out all together, when its still such a wonderful device! I know its inevitable, but where should I go next? I'm just wondering where this hobby is taking everyone? What device are all of the regulars here in the mt4g section going to next?

I, for one, don't post much here anymore because it typically feels like EVERYTHING has been covered. From Rooting 2.2 phones to 2.3. phones, how to check Serial numbers of the motherboards. And everything in between. I'm really getting sick of pointing people to threads that already exist. If they are to lazy to look, i'm to lazy to help.

I love the phone myself, and I'm currently running a Sense 3.5, I think I've finally determined that I prefer Sense Roms. I've tried most of them, but as I have sat back and noticed, there is a lot of posting things that have been covered. One thing though..MOST of the old links are dead, and some of the simple stuff is kinda aggravating to find when you're in a panic mode .. but for now I'm gonna keep my mt4g til it is ABSOLUTELY a dinosaur, which its not to me yet...

Was thinking same thoughts awhile back but not lately. So much new work as stated by others and since t-mobile is still selling this phone [mostly internet] tis no reason to fret. I'm gonna use this one till great granny grunts.
I suppose yall are right, I guess I don't see a lot of discussion going on. I would love to see some constructive discussions going on, without there having to be a problem. But I understand people are busy. I check the boards like once an hour and I love to see new things, & it just seems like its getting less. Also I'm a little late in the game..Just when I'm getting familiar with things, it appears to be winding down..

If you check once an hour you'll lose your mind. Trust me.
I check morning and evening unless some stuff is going down. You know, like a couple of weeks ago. At this point all we are missing are some camera/camcorder developments for ICS, some miracle worker patching the genius app for ICS and that's about it.

I think that since a lot of threads being closed lately that people are more hesitant to open another thread about anything unless it's important.

yup, and in canada it was only released a few months ago.. so there will be more people buying this, and hopefully they know about XDA
i just got a sensation and decided to come back to the mt4g. its a great device, dont get me wrong.. and it looks slick as hell.. and development is CRAZY.. but its not a worthy upgrade to be honest. rather wait for the one series (at&t's one X im looking at you bro)

Yeah, but on the brightside. If he gets in the mood for sense 4.0, he is just stubborn enough to make it work. So there.

F**k yeah xD. I hope he does make a Sense 4.0 kernel! His were always good..as you guessed, I'm more of a fan of Sense...working on a ROM right now, but the thing ain't booting! Ah well, I'll get it.
It doesn't seem empty around here, but the overall enthusiasm seems to have dropped from a year ago.
I will echo the sentiments here though in that this phone is an amazing device. I had a friends last years get the google phone (the one after the nexus one, the name escapes me), and another get the Motorola Droid X (or the one after that..again I cannot remember). And the reason I cannot remember is because they both long ago opted for an upgrade because they said their phones were shot.
Now perhaps they didn't treat their phones like I did mine (rooting and using the latest, efficient rooms and kernels), but this phone does perform flawlessly. Aside from being a tiny bit slow compared to other newer phones, and because I have not found a ICS ROM that works for me, I am seriously getting swayed by the HTC One hype (especially when they announced that TMO wag getting the One-X in addition to the One-S).
If I did pick up one of those phones, I don't think I could sell this phone though... I might even keep a line open for it. Its just too good of a runner.
