HTC Tattoo vs Wildfire - Click General

I've just been reading a review of the HTC Wildfire which is HTCs new budget android device... they seem to think its a lot better than the Tattoo. The specs though are very similar except it has a bit more RAM and a decent camera.
http://www.itpro.co.uk/624604/htc-wildfire-review/4
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Tattoo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Wildfire
Anyway, I thought it was an interesting comparison and shows what the Tattoo can still do especially as the chipsets are the same. I hope with a Froyo release for the Tattoo it can show its potential!

Apart from being able to pinch zoom who cares? And with a 3.2 inch screen anyway I don't think its the going to be beating an iPhone for web browsing just because it has multi touch lol. My point is that the Tattoo can be brought up to the same level with a complete 2.1/2.2 update.

Maybe that "bit more RAM" is necessary to have 2.1 and sense working fine.
But i'm not sure

yes but in my opinion it won't arrive!
instead htc assured froyo for device from genuary 2010 excluding tattoo that exited on november/december 2009 -.-
i'm not talking about hardware that is almost the same but the support won't be the same for these devices...
do not forget wildfire start with a 2.1 upgradeable to 2.2
and the cost is almost the same for both devices...

Not from HTC it won't... but the development team here are almost there anyway so hopefully a fully working ROM will be here soon without the need for HTC!
And I think you're missing my point. Im just saying that the new device is basically the same as the Tattoo. Im not saying sombody should go out now and buy a Tattoo, that would be stupid lol.

HTC Wildfire is what the Tattoo should have been.
I'm not convinced in upgrading to the Wildfire just to replace my dying Tattoo.

People, I'm quite sure that HTC won't update Wildfire to 2.2. They will just leave it behind like they left behind the Tattoo! They clearly said that they will update most of the phones released in 2010...I don't know, but I sense that the wildfire users will be as disappointed as we were when they said that 2.1 isn't going to come for our tattoos...

I couldn't say that any better. 100% agree. I think there are basicly two type of needs/users.
One is what I call the "leisure" user (that could be myself on week ends) who wants a ample web browsing, full multimedia, multiple messaging (SMS's and chat), gaming, and so on. For these users, iPhone 3g/3gs/4, Nexus One, or alike any of both is the choice.
Another one is my so called "working" user (myself monday to friday), when your needs are mostly email (mostly exchange and push), quick browsing, mapping or navigation, shopping lists, to do lists, calendars, reminders, transportation routing or schedule querying, not too ambicious web browsing, some music/sudokuing is well appreciated. For this use, Tattoo-like->Wildfire is simply perfect: does it all, with no excess luggage (weight/size).
I don't know if I should say pitty or shame on HTC for releasing a device that in a very few months will be improved to the obsolecense point. We all know that in consumer technology you will never catch up with the very best, but HTC guys, we should be happy at least for one year. Is it to ask for too much? Did they invent the "decent camera" last week so it is just now that you could include it in your phones, or couldn't you do that on the Tattoo? And cant't you upgrade to 2.1 or 2.2? You HTC want to tell us that you can't do what some cooks on XDA have already done? I am certain that these guys are very well prepared, qualified and smart, no doubt on it, but what they do is some kind of hobby on their spare time, and they are charging not a cent!
Well, my hope like many others, is on these magnificent guys cooking new ROMs for all of us (hopefully we will have a 2.1 or 2.2 fully functional), and as some other dudes already have expressed, Tattoo might well be my last HTC device.

I think tattoo is lack of screen resolution and size of the screen other than it's good if you just work around with roms and install market patched hopefully soon we will have 2.2 or 2.1 fully working custom Roms with market patched and it will be really cool
But htc should do something about tattoo they can't just leave tattoo in blank

don't think on buying a wildfire. haven't you got enough with Tattoo? save some more money and buy a nexus one or an iphone, they are truly speedy and better quality

Nexus One or Htc Bravo?

I really like my G1 but i'm thinking on upgrading to a new phone in a couple of months...the phone that have been in my mind actually is the Nokia N900...but now with the nice looing N1 things have change...now so far what i know is that the Htc Bravo is gonna have a better camera but a less RAM that the N1...and is gonna have the Sense UI...which i like...anyway any comments on this?
where did you hear that?
I'm not to sure on the camera part but I did hear it's got 320MB of Ram.
I heard that too but where did you hear it was going to have a better camera? Also none of the stuff about the RAM is confirmed, although Sense UI is most definatly going to be included, but the Nexus One with a custom sense UI rom will be able to run sense UI better anyway if the part about the RAM is true.
http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/01/13/3-sweden-says-its-getting-htc-bravo-in-march/
maybe i was wrong about the camera can't find the source...
actually it has a addition of a five megapixel AF cam capable of 720p video capture

That would be the same camera as the N1. I may be biased but I would say that the Nexus One wins against the Bravo hands down.
I'd just get the Nexus One so you can have a snap dragon phone now then you can install a Sense rom when that comes out.

Actually the Bravo has a snapdrangon too....i really like the way it look and i think the optical "balltrack" looks awesome...
Look man, the camera is probably going to be the same. The Nexus One will have more RAM, and therefore a Sense UI Custom ROM on the Nexus One will run smoother than any Sense UI ROM on the Bravo. Its pretty clear that the choice, assuming you plan to root the phone and install a custom ROM, is the N1.
I like the optical "trackball" a lot better too. I just think that Google would do software updates more/faster than HTC. And I don't care for the Sense UI anymore. Vanilla Android (with tweaks from xda members) is enough for me.

The optical trackpad is fascinating, if they could light the trackpad with a tri-color led, then I would be interested more.
I think Google was aware of the Bravo when HTC made the Nexus One. They probably were okay with HTC releasing a phone with the same core hardware as the N1 (minus the extra RAM).
EDIT: For me the big incentive for the N1 is the "generally" Vanilla install. With my Sprint Hero, I removed the extras. A lot of people like Sense though, but I waited for a while and realized that Sprint wasn't going to release updates in a timely manner. If I had to rely on anyone for updates, I'm more comfortable relying on Google (and occasionally HTC) for them.

Also, here is the other article:

The n1 and bravo have the same hardware. Bravo will come with sense and wont be rushed like the n1 was. Google released the n1 early to try to beat the other (bravo) snapdragon phones coming out. Why would you buy the n1 over the bravo if you seen the bravo with HTC sense? I love my n1 but now i kinda wish I would of waited for the more polished bravo. You may ask why more polished? I bet it wont have 3g issues, dust under the screeen and alignment issues. All of the n1 issues could have been fixed before launch.
Im assuming its CDMA ? Thatd be weird to drop this one on GSM bands so quickly unless its ATT.
Love the optical trackball alot.
I hope those expresso videos Ive seen arent accurate, sense UI looks seriously uglified.

Rushed like the N1 was? Simply because SOME people are having 3G connection issues, and SOME people are having dust under the screen means it was rushed? This means that the manufactures aren't "manufacturing" the device correctly obviously (not the 3G part). I don't believe it was rushed, I just think they don't know how to make the device at wherever they are shipping it from. If anything, this same exact thing could possibly happen to the Bravo - if they haven't learned from these past mistakes.
This 3G issue seems simply retarded, and I have no way of helping the N1 out on it sadly. I can't see why people would be having connectivity issues. That, I must admit, I guess is an issue that the N1 has. But people are making such a big, please note an - unnecessary - deal out of these issues just to bash the device..not cool >.>

I don't own a N1 but are this devices supposse to be phones before anything else...i mean if anybody have problem with the "connectivity"...i think is rigth that the are making big deal out of it...in another note lots a people paid $530 for the N1...dude if i'm paying $530 for a phone at least i need "connectivity"...and dont think anybody (beside engadget and iphones junkies) are bashing the device.

Is the htc legend future proof?

already it seems the htc legend is missing out on features compared to the N1 and desire because of its inferior specs.
one of them is the Live Wallpapers which is just a gimmick BUT it's a display of what the phone is capable of.
and Google Earth seems to not work on the legend also due to the inferior specssssssssssssssssssssssssss..........
Now the phone new and already it is not capable of running some things.
I get the feeling that we will begin to see more and more apps in the future that the phone will not be able to handle.. i also wonder if there are any apps that im unaware of that are currently needing the superior processors.
for those of you in the "legend vs. desire brain fu*k", leaning towards legend, i apologise if this has put you back at square one. Im in the same boat. because the desire is long and ugly like peter crouch.
i dont Know what to buy too im not an Apple fan boy but when they make a new device it is the one to have. htc make good things but im very disappointed to have to choose between an ugly monster and a beautiful device but not so good...
i'm worried its screen resolution limits its full potential......

No lag since it has dedicated GPU. As for the Live Wallpapers rooting will come
and you can install them. Hero can run Live Wallpapers why should legend be any different?

I miss the google earth on legend....
I think Legend is capable of runing google earth, but that the program itself is bugged or dont let the legend use it.
There is many apps that dont work on legen, nexus etc but we all know they are capable. I think earth will get an update that fixes it on the legend, the gpu is capable to deal with it or, at the least, start it. I think google has done something to prevent earth on legend atm.
I'm perfectly happy with my Legend. Believe me, working in the mobile industry I have been through a few different models for sure, I've had the best, the worst and the bizarre at some point...
If the phone you have bought does everything you want to do today, then you have made a good purchase and will no doubt be happy with it.
If the phone you bought today will hopefully do everything that the future brings, you made a mistake my friend and I suggest you return it.
In terms of mobile phone technology, there is no future-proof.
Man there is a new phone out every quarter so I'd so no.
Nothing in tech is future proof .
first time i post on forums and i post to sat That i think legend is a pretty good smartphone if You wanna be future safe

shame on you
Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out.
Heh, I just ditched my Hero as well, went for a Nexus One instead. Why? Given the relatively small size of the team that codes the HTC ROMs, the sheer tonage of handset models HTC produce in a year and the prolific rate of development for Android (which is a new thing for phones and outpaces the lifetime of a handset significantly), its pretty obvious that anything other than the Nexus One (currently) will be left behind within 6 months of release, doubly so given Sense. Plus, the Hero was the culmination of the Android Gen 1 phone cycle, and is underpowered compared to the Gen 2 phones IMHO. The only option is custom ROMs which, in all fairness to the hard work put in by the creators, can be hit and miss depending on what you personally expect from a device. The 2.1 Hero I played with was nice, but for me, it was too buggy for a phone I need to be working 100% while the owner was fine with random FC's, reboots, sensor issues and general beta-ish behaviour every now and again.
So, if you want to be at the bleeding edge, and have offical support, consider the Nexus One. My GF will be perfectly happy with the stock 1.5 Hero for some time, while I wouldn't be. Anything else is just wishful thinking if you are honest about HTC's capabilities and they way they operate as a company. The N1 is worlds away from the Hero, and a far nicer device.
I have buy a Desire, too! But I went back to the Hero, because my Desire have dust under the screen, after only 5 days. It was really a good device, but Hero have no dust after one year. So check the desirethreads here. Many users have problem with dust!

why Desire got the froyo update first?

Does anyone know why the Desire got the froyo update first when the Legend actually came out earlier than them?
Because Desire is HTC's flagship, top of the line, finest product would be my guess.
And I don't how heavy 2.2 is to run but Desire comes with the 1GHz Snapdragon CPU and will run a less fine-tuned OS better than the Legend (this is also a wild guess)..
Edit: another reason is the N1, with almoast the same specs as the desire meaning its easyer for htc engineers to modify it for desire.
will the legend ever get the update ?
I sent a question to HTC yesterday, asking when we can expect the update on the legend... This was their answer:
"Android 2.2 (Froyo) update is sent out to customers in waves. This is done so we don’t overload our system. And because of this it may take longer for some of our customers to get it. You can try searching for it by typing the following: Settings -> about phone -> updating systems software -> Search now"
Not sure if she misunderstood me, I specified that I've got a Legend, but I would guess the response could be interpreted as if she thought I've got a Desire. I dunno. I just want the update.

even the EVO got the froyo update ... so i dont think thats the reason ... its probably cause the Desire has a larger user community then the Legend ..
I'm pretty sure we'll get it but we will have to wait until all other phones made in 2010 get it.
Because the Legend has the smallest community.
That's just simply what HTC needs to do, satisfy as much people as fast as possible.
So after all EVO users got there updates it's probably going to be the wildfire who's next and then probably us.
The legend hasn't specifically been named, but they have said that all android devices made in 2010 will get the update in Q3. So the legend will get it, just be patient.
Are you serious that even the Wildfire will get the update earlier than us? This must be the biggest joke ever.
So HTC's strategy is to get the more popular phones updated first and place the less popular ones below?

I dont think the Wildfire will get it before the Legend. The Wildfire is a mass-market low-end device unlike the Legend.
I think the delay is due to addition of new features like Live Wallpapers, as Froyo gives a supposed 450% performance boost that coupled with the same graphics chip as the Nexus One and the Desire should give the Legend a lot of processing power.
I agree. The Wildfire will probably get it before the Legend.
But the Legend will get it before Q4 afaik. Since HTC said all their 2010 devices would.

yea right , but still the extra money offers better specifcations and many also will think put the extra money for extra quality ..
but anyway wildfire first or the legend it dosen't matter but the most important thing that they should not forget the legend ..
Its probably easier for HTC to update the Wildfire because of its lower hardware specs.

And if the Wildfire gets FroYo first. It's probably because it's newer. But as said before. All 2010 HTC devices will have FroYo before Q4.
Hopefully.. Never know with HTC.
if the wildfire gets the update i will have no doubt that the legend will get it because of the similir specifcations and hardware ...

Ask for the upgrade to Froyo on Htc's Facebook page.

Hello.
HTC promised upgrade to Froyo for Legend before the end of October, but it is now November and still no update.
On Italian Android Forum, owners of this phone are rightly angry, and decided to protest strongly on the htc facebook page. So I also invite you to protest, so that the protest is larger and HTC should listen.

You can write what you want, like "Froyo on legend!" or "Htc sucks, we want Froyo!".
Had a quick look at the page and you're right, there do seen to be a fair amount of people shouting for the Legends long overdue FroYo but I'm doubtful how much attention HTC will pay given the phones they've just release and the upcoming handsets.
That said I'll still be adding my name to the list. Otherwise its back to custom ROMs for me

continue like that!

Why does HTC Suck? Because they are ensuring Froyo on Legend is done properly? That's a very strange concept, as those same users will be the first to complain if it arrived broken.

They should've ensured this update to be released as sheduled. 3 months passed since desire got 2.2, legend update was sheduled at Q3 those days. September aka Q3 passes, htc says we'll have update by the end of october etc. etc. Seems like they hired some bull to regularly defecate on update's status
What i mean is: it must've arrived months ago, w/o any bugs

Well, they have ensured that quite swiftly for other phones. How come the Legend is the most difficult?
HTC Lies every day because the Gratia´s port to Legend woks fine, the only issue are the drivers.
i don´t like update delay, but i really hate liars!!!
Okay I'll add my name on the list... let's see....

Whilst the Froyo update has been promised and HTC seem to be making Legend owners wait some time for it, they are letting themselves down even more by not even fixing the SMS bug problem which deserved an immediate patch as it is a broken feature.
Have a feeling...
I just have a feeling that HTC just wanna grab the opportunity to sell a 'metal' desire phone to the consumers first.
It seems peculiar that as much as HTC claimed low stocks of AMOLED, a sudden black phantom of the legend popped out of nowhere...
hence, it is possible that the legend was delayed because:
a) it will be given HD recording... Possible, but unlikely. I think i've read somewhere that the specs for the camera is similar to the desire. This could be a reason htc wanted to hold back the market for consumers to get a metal desire (and thus earn more instead of a legend)
b) people are craving for metal phones. The Legend sold well. In my country, all exclusive providers sold out the legend. (and it went to sell on 3 major telcos). this might be the reason why HTC wanted people to start picking up the HD and Z version of the desire.
c) they might try the new htc sense on the legend. Who knows? I'm not sure, but i think the gratia has no new sense... (i could be wrong on this).
Whatever it is, the legend was pretty much the litmus test that htc needed before manufacturing metal phones. Reason being was that the original desire DID NOT HAVE a metal casing. Why? The desire is HTC's flagship! And possibly, the legend has been overshadowing the desire quite a bit, and making it more likely that they might just want to put the metal switch to desire before bumping the legend. If the bump the legend now, people might just pick up more legends instead of waiting for the Desire hd and z...
Whatever it is, the desire hd and z has been launched... I expect froyo to come to the legend within a week or 2 after that...
For it to FOTA the legend to froyo before the new desires reaches all corners of the world is VERY UNLIKELY...
I honestly do not believe this.. i recon HTC is just interested in selling more phones and while doing that they devoloped loads on new products and tossed the legends development department staff along with the rest of the desire crew. and now that they are selling well they eventualy will pickup (when time allows) to continue the 2.2 little by little.
Never buy a mid range phone from HTC.
The history repeats. First circus with HTC Hero and now with Legend.
our protests have taken effect and HTC said that the update is imminent.
but they repeatedly said the same thing, and then continue to write.
Holy ****, it worked...

There is a difference between releasing an update which updates existing OS's and installing a rooted ported OS from scratch. HTC have said they are having trouble with the Market after installing the update, much like the issues the Desire had.
Personally I'm quite happy to wait for a polished product imagine how much more you'd moan if they released it with loads of bugs
