What will come first, Android ROM or WP7 port? - HD2 General

In your opinion, which one do you think will come to the HD2 and if you had to choose, which one would you get?

first will come people who should have gotten an iPhone asking when a dumbed down os will be available. giventhe choice, i stay with the ROM that came with the phone, that'swhy i got it in the first place

What I wish would come first is the time when people looking for Android on an HD2 realize that they should just suck it up and get an EVO. But, that's probably not going to happen any time soon.
Seriously, though, I think the WP7 port will come before Android.

port
With the extraordinary chefs of XDA my bet would be on WM7 getting to the HD2 first.
My 2 sense....
fhaines

Well seeing as a basically fully working WP7 was already ported and working on the HD2 I would say that one first.

Despite the much sparser network coverage, I sucked it up and made the switch because T-Mo had the phone I wanted. Don't be married to a carrier since they don't give a rat's you-know-what about you as a customer.

Sprint's probably got better coverage than T-Mobile. I'm starting to regret switching over to T-Mobile from AT&T for the HD2. I should have spent the $800 to get the australian HD2 and stayed on AT&T. Now I've got a 2 year contract with T-Mobile.
Back on topic... I think WP7 will probably have a port first. I'd like to play around with both WP7 and Android on my phone, but I'll keep WM6.5 as my main OS. That's what I bought the phone for. It'll be awhile, if ever, until there's a stable port of either of them, anyways.

Sorry to hear that. Wondering why you didn't go with getting the HD2 from T-Mo without a contract. In the long run, it's cheaper and you aren't locked in. You didn't have to pay for the phone in full up front, either.
I did this, bought the phone for $449 and their Even More Plus with Text + Web. No 2 year contract and over the two years, I save almost $240 over getting the subsidized phone and a more expensive contract. If I had the need to switch to someone else, I'll sell the phone and move on.

Are you people serious? You should NEVER switch to a cell phone company for a freaking phone. Look at all the stupid idiotic iphone customers who switched to at&t to get one. How many of them hate at&t because of it. I will be honest, I have sold for S,V,A and now T, and quite honestly it really irritates me to see people treat the industry as a product industry. IT IS A SERVICE INDUSTRY PEOPLE! The products are just a secondary thought, or at least they should be. At&t really ruined it with that craptasatic iphone. I'm not saying it is a horrible phone, but it is not, nor is any phone worth switching to a company that you don't get service with or who has horrible customer service. I would like to see android ported over from the new Sprint phone that is being released so I can duel boot and get the best of both worlds, but F#[email protected] Sprint. I wouldn't have that companies service again if they paid me to.

I'm guessing WP7 will be the 1st port. I'd love to have Android b4 WP7 hits. But, its just wishful thinking I guess.

Sure, it's a service industry. But one that happens to have products that use the service. Until all of them make the same devices available across the board, the reality is some will have devices that others don't. And Sprint may be horrible to you, but there are plenty of users who would swear by it and say the same about T-Mo, AT&T, etc.
BTW, it's just a phone.

Nah, it's a product industry. If it were a service industry, everyone would be 4G and rising by now.
Yeah, it should be service-oriented, but everyone knows that these companies make money off their handsets, not their all-in-one plans.
Look at AT&T. They seriously offer a new product now (for only $99!) that connects to your home internet service and "boosts" the cellular signal.
Read that last one again. Yeah, they are offering you a new product because they know their signals suck indoors. And that product uses bandwith on your own internet connection. And they are charging you for it. So, AT&T knows they suck and instead of building their infrastructure, they are actually selling their "solution" to the very people who are already paying exhorbiant prices for crappy service.
Back on topic: WP7 will get ported first, but it won't be a full port. Android is coming, but it has a guaranteed 1 year wait and another 6 months for the bugs to be worked out.
Personally, I can't wait for Android. I ran it on my Kaiser, then my TouchPro2. It wasn't a full-time OS for me, but the app store was too juicy to pass up

dude you read my mind, OMG that's scary. If Tmobile sticks with GSM then I'll stay with them, if they go the other route, I'll switch to AT&T forsho and just buy unlocked phones. The merger would be more difficult since it would mean migrating users from CDMA to GSM Or vice versa. They are very different networks, meaning the merged company would have to maintain both networks (at great cost) for many years in order to complete the migration of all customers.
Additionally, the cost of rebranding existing locations of one store and fixing redundancies in the company would probably draw on for many years.
Either Sprint or T-Mobile better have DEEP pockets.
Will it be profitable in the long term: yes, but it will have huge upfront costs.
Are you guys for real????? I would only it hate it if T-Mobile losses its grip to Sprint if it is the other way then I think Sprint customers ought to be happy for TMO has the best CS. I have been with them since 1999!!!! just because of the customer service!!!

Sprint hd2 - who would buy

This thread is in hopes that everyone who signs could speak themselves to sprint. If enough signatures are put on here i will forward this thread to sprint's marketing team. The question poses out there, who would actually go to sprint and pay a figure of $349.99 with a new contract for a sprint hd2?
i'd buy for 400-450 + a 1-2yr agreement. as long as they dont cripple it or drastically change its appearance.
i want it right now, cash in the hand.
i see this phone lasting me at least 2yrs before it becomes obsolete
I would definetely buy one from Sprint!
Hell yes! My contract is up with AT&T and Im ready to change to either Sprint or Tmobile whoever gets the HD2.
Absolutely!
I would definitely enjoy it if Sprint would consider taking on the HD2 for it's gracious clients without making any crazy changes to it. I just got the TP2 and would have to get rid of it to make room for the HD2. Let's make it happen Sprint, please?!?!
Me too, I would gladly leave Verizon for Sprint if they get the HD2. Don't cripple it though!
I don't think I would leave ATT for Sprint. CDMA is just too crippled. I love switching to the newest phones all the time, and that usually entails Euro GSM phones
I woulda definitely got it, but most likely would leave to USMC by time phone is released.
I am holding off buying a TP2 til at least January at which time I hope the HD2 would be available on Sprint. If not, I would probably get a TP2 even though I would prefer the HD2. If Sprint does get the HD2 I would wait even longer but if becomes evident that Sprint will NOT offer the HD2, I'll get a TP2.
HD2
I'm definatly in i really like the size of the iphone over my Diamond but i don't want to leave Sprint/Nextel after some 15 years...
'Definitely would purchase, HOWEVER, I would really, really, REALLY appreciate it if Sprint were to continue the Worldphone functionality of the Touch Pro2, but include all 3G frequencies. A keyboard would be great, too (a la Touch Pro2), as well as a trackball (a la Hero). 'Just my two cents, but Sprint and HTC would have some VERY F*&%IN' happy customers. Then, maybe I'd consider makin' the switch.
Immediately
i would immediately purchase this phone if it came to sprint in fact ive been waiting for a very very long time and now when it came down to the final stretch i was very disappointed to see t-mobile take the cake ..... BRING THIS PHONE TO SPRINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess no chance of sprint releasing an HD2 ehh? Love that giant screen and being wm6.5 hopefully no "iconic phone" restrictions.

Damnit... now I'm tempted to leave T-mobile. Might be selling a second N1 soon, lol. Can Sprint customers get OTA updates yet?
Thank god for the N1 not being tied to a carrier... In the past you might not have gone with a carrier better for your situation because they didn't have a great phone. I didn't go with Sprint since the "best" phone they had for me was a outdated version of the PalmPre but now the N1 closes all the gaps between carriers and allows anyone to have an amazing phone on any carrier.

Likewise... the only reason I decided to stay with T-mo was because of the N1, and I didn't want to pay $35 more a month to switch to VZW. Now with it coming out on Sprint, it could mean I'd have incentive to switch even with the T-mo ETF.

things have changed in recent months/past couple years. I joined the sprint scene in august with the palm pre, and then returned it when the hero was announced and waited the 1.5 months till i could buy it.
ive had my own instances of being involved with customer service, and 9/10 times I really feel like sprint CSR's went the distance at least to make me feel valued. there is one instance where they didnt, but thats about contract dates, and all 4 major carriers are sticklers about that.

Looks like Sprint cancelled the N1 as well...

Jesus, I already have my T-Mobile version and it doesn't hurt me but I really don't like Sprint (and Verizon) giving hopeful N1 customers the finger.
Its not that they just said no to subsidizing the phone... its that since they work off a CDMA network (non sim cards) they will just block the phone entirely off their network. Even if you had a Sprint compatible version and called them up to activate it they would tell you no. Greedy SOB's.
I wanted the N1 to become a smartphone standard across all 4 carriers so that Google would continue to produce it for a LONG time and come out with subsequent versions over time. But with just two carriers supporting it I am scared Google might abandon it long term due to low sales.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/10/sprint-cans-nexus-one-in-favor-of-evo-4g/
Doesn't matter to you or me. We've got one of 2 current gen standard bearers (other being the Milestone/Droid) and ours doesn't have to go through a carrier to get OS updates.
All the apps will be built with us in mind, so fewer bugs and possibly more apps. We're basically Android Dev Phone 3. Nothing wrong with that at all. This is a loss for Sprint customers only, and the size of that loss is debatable.
Sucks to be a sprint customer. Will the EVO be better than the Nexus One? On paper, yes.. however that has yet to be seen. Most (or some) of us thought the N1 would be overshadowed by the Droid Incredible but that wasn't the case at all.
EVO vs Nexus One .... coming soon.

Good question. If it was Google, I think they bailed just before the vindication of the N1. I am reading about perceived "issues" with the Incredible and Desire similar to those on the N1 regarding 3g coverage. The N1 is a damn fine phone, and Verizon and Sprint users are missing out on an absolute gem with a better forward path than anything else in the hardware queue.

Its DEF Sprint's and Verizon's fault the phone was cancelled. Google could easily put in a different radio (like they did with the ATT version) but Sprint and Verizon can just refuse to activate the phone on their network like they did. ATT and TMo didn't have a choice since they use sim cards. Sprint and Verizon are evil companies that force their customers into more expensive options instead of giving them choices
Same reason the verizon deal fell through. both spring and verizon are very controlled networks. Googles wants to essentially turn the cell phone system into an europe-esque system where phones and service are seperate entities.
Each nexus phone has to be programs for verizon or sprint. They probably couldn't come to terms with an appropriate price and management. They'd have to have the phones programmed before being shipped out, one more step and one more cost.
Then you have the headaches of pushing out updates. We saw how long it took Droid to get the 2.1 update. If you want to update a sprint android phone you have to take it to a retail store to do it!
thats a damn shame
sprint cancelled (probably, i'm just guessing here) for the same reason verizon did. they have a top notch android phone coming out, for which they reap the benefits of sales. why would they chop that by catering to a phone that would only compete with their own sales, but they don't get sales money for? neither att nor tmo have a better phone right now.
btw, i love my nexus one. i can see why they would worry, lol. incredible is a nice phone, but the chick i'm hanging out with just got one, i played with it, and i prefer my N1, tbh

I partially agree with the OP here, it would be nice to have this across all carriers, but in all honesty, CDMA is just not something that is well supported outside the US. Having GSM is key since it is more the worldwide standard. I don't think not having CDMA is going to really hurt things for this device.

That makes no sense at all. Even if they didn't subsidize the phone, like AT&T, someone could buy the N1 100% with their own money, and then throw their money at Verizon/Sprint for the voice and data plans. All I could see is a net PLUS of subscribers on their networks. Now if someone reallly wants an N1, they'd be thinking T-Mobile / AT&T; a net LOSS of subscribers for Verizon/Sprint.

Verizon and Sprint have a much much more closed network than Att or T-mobile. They wan't entire control of what goes on the network.

I would join you, but AT&T IS AN EVIL COMPANY. YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE. They ditched their unlimited data plan! The most you can get it 2GB/month. Their customer service sucks, their coverage sucks worse, and they lock down installing non-Market apps on Android phones. They are EVIL!

Yeah go ahead and sell me a phone and in less than 10 months tell me that I won't be getting a software update that We all know our phones can handle, just so you can sell me a Phone that WILL have Froyo but I'd have to pay an extra 10 dollars a month for.

Yeah go ahead and sell me a phone and in less than 10 months tell me that I won't be getting a software update that We all know our phones can handle, just so you can sell me a Phone that WILL have Froyo but I'd have to pay an extra 10 dollars a month for.

you mean like the verison eris?
lol @ AT&T. I'll never go back to that sh*tty company. Have fun getting f*cked over.
AT&T knows that Android is clearly superior to the iPhone.
That's why they're making all of their Android phones super ****ty and removing functionaity from them that the iPhone doesn't have. AT&T wouldn't have the iPhone exclusively if they weren't taking Apple out back of the building for some extra cash.
Well personally I don't care, but really? AT&T? The worst of the 4
We should start a betting pool for when (not if) he comes back to Sprint. I'll take dibs on 2 months from now. Any other guesses?

I give it within his 30 day trial - what most people dont realize is that ATT, Tmo and Verizon are nowhere near as flexible as Sprint for waiving ETF's, MIR's, Upgrades, Activations, Resets, etc... lol good luck at ATT! See ya back soon!

He's not getting an iPhone....
you joined the dark side (AT&T) what do you expect? btw AT&T was a ****ty company a long time before mobile phones existed, anyone remember carterfone? How about the breakup of the monopoly into the smaller regional bells?
I'm proud to say that I have NEVER done any business with AT&T, wired or wireless.
